In terms of big days for the 3DS, we're not sure it's ever had a date quite like 13th February this year. That day will see new hardware with the New Nintendo 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and, last but certainly not least, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. We hope that Capcom's latest monster slaying adventure won't be overshadowed or lost in the shuffle, as we've been rather impressed in our time with it so far.
Nintendo UK is doing its bit to build hype for the long-awaited title, releasing two videos from a recent London event. First of all we have a video with series executive producer Ryozo Tsujimoto highlighting the story campaign, while the second is all about fans reacting to some playtime with the game.
Check out the videos and let us know whether you're excited for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and don't forget that you can check out our interview with Tsujimoto-san and creative director Mr. Kaname Fujioka, or see more of what we think about the title in our in-depth preview.

Can't wait for my special edition N3DS to arrive
Only 3 more weeks before we get to play the full game!
Hunters from Germany are ready to go. The real life ends at february 13th.
There is actually a story in this?
The story in 3 was paper thin.
I was at the MH3U fan event in Frankfurt, sadly didn't make it this year. Too bad, would have been great to meet Tsujimoto-san.
@Tsuzura Expect the same in 4. Virus bla bla go kill some monsters.
I shall take up my blade for the most noble of goals: awesome fights!
@Iggly That's awesome , but I have a feeling these next three weeks will be interminable .
@Chubblings I feel you, the next three weeks will definitely feel very long, but it will be all worth it in the end.
I've never played MH before but have read that MH4 will be a good place to jump aboard. I fully expect to be schooled hard many many times.
I managed to get a hold of a demo code for this game..... The game sucks.
@mr_nihilism An you probably will so it's good to be prepared for that. I still consider myself new to the new series cause I started with MH3U. Just don't get frustrated if you get stuck on a hard monster, you can always go online and get help from other players. You can even get advice from veteran players. If your still unsure on what weapons you should use might I suggest the Long Sword(LS) or Sword and Shield(SnS), for the most part there beginner friendly.
Just be thankful the underwater battles are gone, sometimes for me they were somewhat easy but most of the time they were extremely slow and annoying.
Wish they made a WiiU version I had over 400hrs on MH3U and bought both 3DS and WiiU versions, but I played it on the WiiU 95% of the time and enjoyed it a lot more. I just can't step down and play it on a small screen again after enjoying it on the WiiU. So i'll skip it unless they end up doing that sometime.
@ikki5 You can't really determine how the overall game will be from just a demo, you know. Why do you think it sucks? imo the demo was cool because it let's me get a good feel for what the new weapons are like, but it only allows you to hunt 3 monsters, so I have gotten bored of playing it; however, I have the full game pre-ordered, so rather than complain about the demo, I have to just wait 3 more weeks to play the full game.
Monster hunter 3 Ultimate Wii U edition consumed my life! I can't wait for this =)
@Zyon
Thanks for the tips and happy hunting.
@ikki5
Do you mean it sucks compared to previous games or it's just something you do not like in general?
I really wanted to get into monster hunter, but idk it felt so incredibly slow. Like fighting the monsters is just weird, i only played the monster hunter 3 ultimate demo on Wii U, i picked a heavy class and meh, nothing for me. But still i can get it why people like it so much
@GodOfPie yeah I guess... but if the camera in the full game is as horrible as horrible as it is in the demo... it is going to be VERY annoying. It was just over all frustrating for both my friend and I. I am assuming it is meant to be used with the circle pad pro which I don't have.... and will never have.
MH4U and MM3D being released on Friday 13th...
@ikki5 While the circle pad pro does make the camera control easier, it's not too hard to play without it since you can use the Lock-on camera to keep your sight near the monster whenever you get knocked around and such. Also if the touch screen is just as customizable as MH3U in the full game, you're allowed to adjust the size of the virtual d-pad and its position.
@Iggly yes, I was using the L button for a lot but when your fighting a monster, it moves off the screen within a matter of seconds.
@ikki5 Yeah, for me, the camera was weird because I was used to the way it would go up a certain angle when you tap up, where now it's more free, but isn't that fast or stable. Usually, I just constantly auto-lock onto the monsters. I have it set to where I have to tap L twice (It's set to once by default) to do that, but it works well for me. Maybe you should try it, and see how it works. I've gotten a little used to the way the camera works now, but I will still mostly rely on the L button.
@ikki5 The Lock-on camera in Monster Hunter is pretty different compared to other games that have it like Zelda since in Monster Hunter the Lock-on is meant to re-adjust your view, it's not going to be constantly focused on the enemy like in Zelda. Personally it's better to just use the d-pad/virtual d-pad if you only want some small camera adjustments while battling a monster.
@ikki5 Oh, you do use L. When it moves off screen after that, you can usually use the normal camera controls to keep it within sight, but I really wish that the camera could move a bit faster...
@paleboyjack
MH3U on Wii U might be the defining Monster Hunter experience for a long time, however, it's not noob-friendly at all. Many a gamer have given up on the franchise because they didn't have the patience to get through the early quests of 3 Ultimate. Now, if you do you'll be rewarded with what is, in my opinion, the greatest video game ever made, but knowing how often noobs are turned off by the brutally deep game mechanics thrown at them so early on and in full force, I would recommend going with MH4U. Once you're hooked and get a more basic understanding of the crafting and combat system, and general blueprint for progression, THEN I'd say go play 3 Ultimate. And having played 4 Ultimate on 3DS will just make you appreciate the HD visuals and luxurious features of 3 Ultimate on Wii U that much more.
It didn't catch me by the demo. I always found the mechanics and gameplay on MH series way too sluggish, slow, imprecise. Of course the whole hunting thing is a bucket of (nearly) endless fun, but overall, it's not the kind of game for me. I'm happy the demo is unlimited, though.
@ikki5 It's not a circle pad pro that you need. You should invest in a New 3DS.. I assure you that it's a game that almost anyone can appreciate and enjoy once you've fully experienced what the game has to offer.
You can't get a better co-op game than this, especially on the 3DS!
I go on regular hunts with @TequilaUK, we'd be happy to take you along with us and show you how enjoyable monster hunter can be!
@GodOfPie
hmm.... well I'll keep trying to to play with the camera but it just made using the archer nearly impossible.
The wait for my Monster Hunter New 3DS is becoming very unbearable.
@rushiosan
Actually, MH is all about precision. It's intentionally designed to have x amount of time for various animation frames- whether that be swinging your sword, drinking a health potion, sheathing your weapon, etc. It's all about strategy. Judging how much time you have and making a move accordingly- do I have time for one more hit, sheath my weapon, and run away before the monster gets up and attacks me? Do I have time to sharpen my weapon now and dodge out of the way last second? Stuff like that.
I used to be like every person here that doesn't get into the game after playing it once. I bought MH3U and played for a couple hours, and gave up because the early quests were all gathering and killing little monsters and it wasn't that interesting. I complained about no lock on, all that stuff people here say.
But when my friend convinced me to play online with him, and I got a real taste of what the game was all about, it finally "clicked". My expectations of what the game was about was way off. Notice that every person who just plays the demo, or just tries it solo for a bit, doesn't like it. Yet notice every person who sticks with it (whether because of a friend they play with online or whatever) is now a junky and says it's their favorite game of all time. I see a pattern, and it's hard to convince a person they really will love this game if they stick with it, when they're already convinced they won't. But nonetheless, I encourage you to stick with it. Get the game, start working your way up, hunt online with friends or members here. And I know you don't think so, but chances are you'll be like everyone else who stuck with it and now boast it's their favorite game. I was like you. Now I'm an addict.
Monster Hunter is like a good book. It takes more than the first page to catch your interest- sometimes several chapters are needed. But once you reach that point of no return, you won't be able to put it down.
@JaxonH I couldn't have put it better myself. Well said.
@ikki5 You can actually change it to be like it is in 3U from the options. I can see how they wanted to make the controls a bit more FPS like, but I prefer the old controls.
Even with the most powerful electron microscope known to man, it would still be impossible for me to locate my interest in this game. Chase monsters, kill monsters, repeat, die of boredom. I'll be playing Majora's Mask, thank you.
@LukeNI
People nowadays always want a game that's pick up and play, a "catch your interest right away" game like a Saturday morning cartoon. But Monster Hunter is more like a cinematic masterpiece than a Saturday morning cartoon. You have to pay attention and get invested, and that takes a little time, but it's so worth it if you do.
I've always loved giant boss fights in games. It's what made Metroid Prime series great, it's what made Shadow of the Colossus great... Pikmin 3- best part of the game was the giant boss fights. Monster Hunter takes that concept and runs with it. An entire game built on the sole premise of giant boss fights- over 100 different monsters to fight, each with intense, challenging move sets and attack patterns- no two hunts are ever the same. Just the premise alone is epic. Boss fights so big and bad, you have to prepare for battle first!
You and I know what's up
You have my bow.
Apollo Creed already finished that game guys...
@JaxonH "But once you reach that point of no return, you won't be able to put it down." True dat brother.
any code for monster hunter ultimate plz I am fanbo email me at [email protected] plz plz
Time is flowing like molasses! Please, tomorrow be February 13th, already!
I was thinking about getting this game and playing it as a single player game, but I was wondering how good of a single player game it was since the Monster Hunter series is typically more recognized as a multiplayer game. Does anybody that knows more about Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate know how good the story and single player actually is?
@LukeNI bro , bro could you add me ? I saw your comment and I decided to make an account on this web. So to be straight forward, I'm new to Nintendo. I recently bought the the 3ds xl two months ago but I heard about the NN3DS but wasn't sure if it will come to the state , so I bough me a 3ds xl because I wanted to play Pokemon. Long story short I heard that the NN3DS was coming to the state in February and because I got so addicted to the 3DS (I'm pro portable by the way) I trade it in along with my PS vita. But I wasn't thinking I don't know if my game file data or my accounts was saved on the system or on the memory card. Whatever I don't care. Now that MH4U is also coming to the states I pre ordered it but I'm hesitant on playing that because I had a horrible experience with it on the PSP 1st gen. Has this game improve , did they add a lock on in this game, can you travel from one village to the next or is it just one village, I love using ax is there a ax in this game, will i be at a disadvantage if I constantly keep using the same weapon. How's the online game ? Sorry if I say or ask too much...im extremely excited. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. >.<
@JaxonH That's really good hearing that from someone who sounds invested. I plan to pick this one up and stick with it and maybe I'll have a similar experience. Thanks
@remlapgamer
Ya know, a lot of people wonder whether this game is as good as people say. And to those people I would answer, "Do you really think all these Monster Hunter fanatics have horrible taste and normally just go crazy over mediocre games? Or is it more likely that people spazz out over the game because it actually really is THAT good, and the only ones who tend to think otherwise are the ones who haven't played it more than 15 minutes. Coincidence? I think not.
You made the right choice. If you ever want to hunt sometime I'm always open to showing new hunters the ropes, as someone once did for me.
@8bitforever
It's actually a really good looking game as far as 3DS games go. I know it's a huge step up from Freedom Unite on PSP, which is the MH I have on Vita. But ya, 3DS isn't exactly a powerhouse but for a 3DS game I was thoroughly satisfied, especially with the 3D effect. Of course it's a downgrade from MH3U on Wii U, but I'm just happy to have the game, on any system.
If you ever decide to get the game and wanna fast track to learn the ropes get ahold of me. Hunting online is magical in this game. It's a really close-knit team, everyone helping everyone. Guy forgot to bring potions, someone offers a few after the hunt starts to cover your bases, stuff like that. It's a really unique experience. I've never felt a stronger bond than when hunting with fellow gamers.
Sadly I most likely will not get this for awhile getting the new 3ds and dynasty warriors 8 empires instead
@SneakyStyle <--- what he said
@JaxonH
This comment is EXACTLY how my friend felt when I got him into Monster hunter freedom unite, he saw me fight kelbi and velociprey because i was playing a new file, I went on to my older file and started fighting a G-rank Tigrex and literally seeing that fight alone sold the game for him, he bought it within the hour and ever since then he's been my hunting buddy
@DarkKirby as a single player game, I put 120+ hrs into MH3U on wii U. I'd also played MH3 on Wii before that. I've only played the demo of MH4U but have to say what I've seen is better than MH3U. The game is so much more than the demo. It's the RPG elements of the game, mining for better armour, farming for items to make health/weapon power ups/ sending your fishing fleet out to find items for power ups/ simple things like fishing during a quest to get small golden fish. The demo is a taster but it's like a taster of a smorgasbord. Monster hunter 4 will be an awesome game on 3DS and if you like a good action RPG go for it. Do yourself a favour and buy a new 3DS XL too, you won't regret it for this. My weapon of choice 'dual blades'
