Aah...I was expecting the Nintendo haters to diss Mario Kart. Just so much stupidity with the complaints made by the sites named in the article, makes me lose hope in people in the gaming world interacting peacefully.
Thomas, you truly were a speed demon in many of these clips. In terms of the game, I've been trying to avoid MK8 videos as much as possible, but these are impossible to resist. The disappointing new Battle Mode and somewhat limited roster aside, this looks to be the best Mario Kart yet
While Diddy Kong hasn't been in the review copy of Mario Kart 8, I have a feeling he might be in the final version.
The following image is from a recent publication of official Spanish Nintendo Magazine, which included images of characters from the game, including Diddy Kong.
@Mizore If I am correct, you heard the Gusty Garden Galaxy music at the end of the Mario Kart 8 Trailer (Uploaded on December 18 2013, you can find it on Nintendo's YouTube channel).
Darn it, Nintendo. I thought we were supposed to hear all the bad news and how you didn't know what to do. How can you be so cruel and give us so much good news.
@JaxonH Yeah, a lot of people saying fire Iwata, but the problems he has are fixable. Many things that Nintendo's been doing/revealing over the past few days have been steps in the right direction/good news. (MKTV app, NFC, Wii U not sold at loss, Bayo 2 and Hyrule Warriors in Summer in Japan, e.t)
@ajcismo I agree with many of your points, and feel Nintendo does need change in management. However, one also has to take into consideration the fact that, what if when Iwata goes, we'll get a boss who just wants to please shareholders, and moves Nintendo (games) to smartphones. In that case, I'd take Iwata anyday over a boss like the one I've described.
Since I think quick boot will only apply to digital games, it won't affect me (I buy physical). However, I am liking the improving loading times in games. Seems like Nintendo is slowly starting to fix things on Wii U (hopefully account-based systems next?)
@SphericalCrusher I remember spending hundreds of hours on the Tony Hawks games on the PS1 (yeah I know, a bit much). I also hope Advanced Warfare hits Wii U because it's a third party that Wii U needs and they're fun to pick up and play. I buy COD's on and off (last one was Black Ops 2). It seems likely that it'll come though, as COD games came on the Wii.
I'm a physical games guy, and prefer to have the boxes on the shelf, but there have been times when I've wanted something on Eshop. However, I will not buy anything on Wii U or 3DS Eshop until they have account based systems. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (part of Mario Kart 8 deal) will be my first digital game on Eshop, and even then, I'm a bit hesitant (despite it being free). Nevertheless, it's good to see them doing well.
Yeah, bring Monster Hunter 4 Wii U. Wii U just seems like a better fit for it. Portability is great, but it looks better on a home console, and the controller is more comfortable (circle-pad pro feels awkward, yet playing Monster Hunter on 3DS without it makes the camera hard to control). And bring that new Ace Attorney Game with ancestors, because I loved Dual Destinies (and all the other entries except AA4).
Ok, thanks for your comment. I really appreciate you replying, as originally I was hyped for the game, but reviews made it a bit shaky, and I was considering starting on another Kirby game (Nintendo Life even gave it a 7). However, after seeing some opinions from different people, I know this is a must-buy for my 3DS and hope that this gets me hooked into Kirby series.
@Peach64 I agree with your comments but wanted to point one thing out. Microsoft may have SHIPPED 5 million units, but that does not mean that they have SOLD 5 million units. Sony and Nintendo both give the number of units sold, but Microsoft has only given units shipped. They could have shipped 5 million consoles, and only sold 4 million, though I understand what you meant.
In honesty though, I'm so happy about this. I remember seeing the Hoenn references as early as 2010, after HG SS. Hoenn is my favorite Pokémon game, and this is coming from someone who's been playing since Red and Blue.
@Hy8ogen Ike hasn't been confirmed, right? Brawl had Ike and Marth, this one has Marth so far. I do think we'll get Chrom eventually, or Lucina (although Lucina is a Marth clone).
@Genesaur How would you compare your opinions on the game, compared to reviewers (I'm in Europe, so I have to wait to play the game)? Also, as for someone who is new to Kirby (this will be my first), would you recommend it?
If Nintendo does actually market MK8 and the Wii U like they say they will, then I have faith that the Wii U's fortunes will be saved. One of the major problems that plagued the Wii U for a while was the marketing. Their marketing has been non-existant for a while, despite the fact that they have great first party games on there MKWii did wonders for the Wii, and I have no doubt that with good marketing, that MK8 will do wonders for Wii U. Then maybe this time next year, we can all be talking about how Wii U did turn into a 3DS scenario.
@MaciejKuczynski Old Fickle sometimes makes even the most serious of cases hilarious. I've always loved how he's been the judge in all of the games. Obviously, he won't be the judge in this one. Regarding Mr. Takumi's comments on wanting to make the franchise fresh, I'm okay with that. My only concern is that the last time he said he wanted to make the series fresh, out came Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. Nevertheless, the game's setting in the Meiji Era can be amazing if played out right.
These aren't in-game screenshots of Mario Golf World tour. These are 'concept shots.' These pictures are to show you what the courses look like (but oddly enough they're in HD) or Nintendo developed these in HD, took these screenshots, then will downgrade it to match 3DS capabilities. These are not 3DS screenshots.
This should be interesting, as I loved Mr. Takumi's work on the Ace Attorney trilogy (Apollo Justice...not so much). That being said, I really enjoyed Dual Destinies as well. This seems to be a way to make it fresh. I think that there will be most likely be more ancestor counterparts (i.e Edgeworth ancestor, Gumshoe ancestor, e.t). I wonder if this is a spin-off (like AA:I) or AA:6. Looking forward to this.
This was a great article/guide! It's very informative and puts many details in an informative and easy-to-read manner. I've played all of the Pokemon games, but have only recently considered getting into competitive. This should help a lot.
I like the Nintendo Directs for reasons that other have also said, but I feel for E3, they need both Direct and Presentation. While the presentation is a formality, Nintendo has to consider that most people who watch Directs are Nintendo fans (people who already own Wii U/3DS and will buy Nintendo games anyway). However, with an E3 presentation, Nintendo can show all their exciting projects to not only Nintendo fans, but all gaming fans, to convince them to buy Wii U/3DS (more so Wii U).
I'm not sure if this counts, but I've always loved the Pokémon Adventure Mangas, that are based of off the games of each region. To me, those are well-written, full of action, and makes me wish the Pokémon anime was better.
@Peach64 Regarding 3DS numbers, I'm surprised it's still doing so well. It's not doing as amazing as people make it seem (especially when compared to the DS). Nevertheless, it's doing well considering the market we have today, where many casuals who bought the DS, have moved to their Smartphones. For Wii U, many people say it'll reach at least Gamecube numbers, but as far as I remember , the Gamecube was doing better at this stage. However, I do hope that the Wii U pulls through in the coming months with games like MK8, because I do really enjoy the console.
@Nintenjoe64 $150 million! That's a lot, because I remember reading a while back that GTA V had Rockstar spend $176 million (for game development, advertising, everything). If Ubisoft is spending nearly as much money on Watch Dogs as Rockstar did on GTA V, they must really be expecting it to sell like hotcakes.
Regarding this game, it looks amazing, and hope it's gameplay is as good as it looks. As others have said before, I'll check it out if reviews are good. Nevertheless, it's great to see Ubisoft doing projects like these.
@PinkSpider I hope the rumors aren't true either. However, on the North American Uplay Store, it lists Watch Dogs Wii U for Fall 2014 (although it's not definitive, because apparently the Australian Uplay store lists the Wii U version for May 27, which we know is not true).
I was happy when Greninja was announced, I used to wreak havoc with teams for a while, not to mention he has such a good design. Greninja-Protean-Mystic Water -Extrasensory -Ice Beam -Surf -Dark Pulse
I hope that there is still time to put Solid Snake in Smash Bros (Wii U version at least). I think Kojima said in Jan/Feb that it is still possible to add Snake to the roster, although it's not looking likely (could be DLC though). Nevertheless, the game looks fantastic at this point (Better than Brawl).
@PrincessEevee9 The reason that best explains why there is lag in the loading screens, but the frame rate elsewhere is a solid 60fps is for one reason. I may be wrong with this comparison, but think about when curtains are closed on stage, and props are getting set up. The same thing is happening with DKC:TF, the loading screens are essentially 'loading'/setting up the stage and everything in it, so all lag that occurs happens in the loading, and not the stage itself.
@theadrock13 I apologize then, and I'll take your word for it. Nevertheless, should Nintendo release a new console soon, they likely won't release another one for a while, (and get an underpowered system again), as well as alienating the 6 million people who bought a Wii U. In my opinion, I believe they should actually try to market the Wii U properly, make more first party games, make deals with developers (similar to what they did with SEGA because third party support is gone). Although, I do respect your opinion, and I understand where you're coming from on releasing a new, more powerful console.
@Nintenjoe64 That's a good point and I respect your opinion on Skyward Sword...but it's sad that video game fans have come to this. I wish that we didn't have this cycle, and that people didn't follow 'what's cool.' Rather enjoy what you want, and let nothing change that, but respect other's opinions.
@theadrock13 Um, consoles take more than 3 years to make, whether it be for Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. It's not as simple as building a PC (where you just take a bunch of parts and bundle them together). Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft spend years in investment on planning what their console will be, how to optimize it for parts, what features it will have, what year it should be released, have to approach 3rd parties and 2nd party developers to give them dev kits. And I've probably left out quite a bit of other stuff as well. Do you think it took Sony/Microsoft less than 3 years to come up with the PS4/Xbox One?
@Gavin_Rozee Granted I understand why developers don't make games for Wii U, and most of the time, it is the publisher's fault. It shows a lot more creativity and exploration than the Yoshi stage (which was also entirely 2D, and this is mostly 3D). I haven't played Lost World in a while, but this does give an incentive to play it again. Smart move Sega.
