Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Unveiled For Switch, Every Previous Character Returns

Caryslan

I honestly cannot believe some of the backlash against this game.

The fact that every veteran fighter is back should be enough to cause people who love Smash to go nuts with hype.

Hell, the last fighting game that I remember that brought back all the fighters from previous games was Marvel vs Capcom 2, which brought back everyone from X-Men Children of the Atom to Marvel vs Capcom.

But even this blows Marvel vs Capcom 2 out of the water in terms of fanservice. All the returning fighters in that game were sprite rips from their previous appearances. Iceman, for instance, was ripped from X-Men: COTA, Thanos, and Dr. Doom were ripped from Marvel Super Heroes, Juggernaut from X-Men vs Street Fighter.

My point is, all the veterans have gotten a new coat of paint and some of them have radical changes to their appearances. Sakurai and his team went the extra mile to add in that extra dash of fanservice.

And that's just the icing on the cake. We have new mechanics, a new UI that has quality of life improvements(Now you can see Robin's weapon and tome durability and Cloud's limit break), countless old stages getting a new coat of paint, etc.

On top of which, we have three newcomers already on the way, with more to no doubt come later.

I get that if you don't like Smash how seeing most of the direct focused on this game would be something of a downer. But if you're a Smash fan, how can you be unhappy with this?

This is Smash's Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Metroid Prime 4 Will Skip E3 2018

Caryslan

@thesilverbrick I get that people are unhappy about Metroid Prime 4 not being shown off, but at least its better then Sony's mindset at E3.

I can't tell you the number of times I've watched an awesome game being shown off at E3 and then we are told that they don't have a release date.

Plus, I think people are forgetting that unlike Sony or Microsoft, E3 is just another Direct for Nintendo, just another of several they hold per year. We will get another big Direct later in the year that might show off what people are hoping to see.

Everyone just needs to be patient.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Will Invade Your Switch In Spring 2019

Caryslan

The only thing I ask is that Nintendo not sell three separate versions of the game, with a fourth version being the true one with the canon storyline like they did with Fates.

To this day, I have not played any other version of Fates besides Birthright because they ended up putting out Echoes and other must-have 3DS games before I could ever get the other paths.

I hate multi-version games that are not Pokemon.

Re: Konami Is Set To Reveal Two New Games For Nintendo Switch At E3 2018

Caryslan

My guess is that one of the games is a Castlevania Collection that includes the following games.

-Castlevania

-Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

-Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse

-Super Castlevania IV

-Castlevania X68000

-Castlevania Bloodlines

-Castlevania Rondo of Blood

-Castlevania: the Adventure Rebirth

-Haunted Castle

This would be a collection of pretty much the classic-style Castlevania games(barring the Game Boy games which always seems to be left off collections like this)

Also, if rumors are true then the end of this trailer shifts to another one that introduces Simon Belmont to Smash 5.

Re: Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon Made Over Half Its Sales On Switch

Caryslan

Now, watch when Konami announces a year or two from now a brand new classic style Castlevania that is headed to the Switch(and other platforms)

I think the success of Sonic Mania as well as projects inspired by classic gaming franchises are starting to wake these major developers up and realize they can still make money off their older franchises.

If Mega Man 11 does well, don't be shocked if Konami opens the vaults and revives Castlevania.

Re: Rumour: Ridley, Ice Climbers And Simon Belmot To Join The Super Smash Bros Roster

Caryslan

@mj2k18 He's one of the biggest characters of the Castlevania franchise, and starred in Castlevania, Castlevania II, and Super Castlevania IV.

With that said, Alucard tends to overshadow him due to Symphony of the Night, and the Belmont clan as a whole tends to take a backseat in the Metroidvanias.

So, if you only played the Metroidvanias, then you might not have any idea who Simon is.

Also, it could be argued that Trevor overshadows Simon due to Castlevania III and the Netflix show, and Richter might be more well known due to Rondo, and the fact that he shows up in many of the Metroidvanias in some way.

Have you played any Castlevania game?

Re: No Plans For Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 On Nintendo Switch, Treyarch Says

Caryslan

@retro_player_22 And this mindset is why third-parties refuse to bring their games over or make Nintendo fanboys jump through hoops or deal with an inferior version.

Why bother to put effort into porting a game if people are going to call your title garbage, and ignore it anyway?

Especially when you can make tons more money off the Playstation.

This is the reason why Nintendo keeps struggling to get third-party developers to support their systems. Why bother when the audience will likely ignore your game anyway?

Fine, maybe you don't like Street Fighter and Final Fantasy. I personally love Street Fighter, including SF IV and V. I would love to see a port of SF V on the Switch, and there are tons of Final Fantasy games out there. Maybe you dislike XV? Well, why not hope we get ports or remakes of the early games?

Re: Video: Fake Nintendo E3 2018 "Leaks" are Fun to Read

Caryslan

@RadioHedgeFund You do realize Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 sold very well on the Switch, and Dragon Ball games have appeared on almost every Nintendo platform since the Famicom where they have always been popular with Nintendo's fanbase.

So, why would Dragon Ball Fighter Z be a red flag that this is fake? Especially when it could sell well on the Switch, a system that is lacking fighting games at the moment.

As for it being a major title on Nintendo's E3 schedule, well Namco could be pushing Nintendo to promote the game, given its popularity on other systems, the popularity of Xenoverse 2 on the Switch, and the overall popularity the Dragon Ball franchise is enjoying now with a new movie coming at the end of the year, Super ending a successful run in Japan, the various dubs of Super being very popular.

I can assure you, more than two people want this game on the Switch, and Dragon Ball is hardly a footnote. I can see Nintendo giving heavy promotion to this game. Hell, I would be shocked is Namco somehow puts out Dragon Ball Amiibo and some special features in a Switch version of the game.

Dragon Ball is popular and it sells on Nintendo platforms.

Re: Video: Fake Nintendo E3 2018 "Leaks" are Fun to Read

Caryslan

@MysteriousMudkip I hate to ask this, but why would a Link's Awakening remake for the 3DS makes it a dead giveaway that its a fake over some of the other stuff listed.

Hell, I would believe a game like that is in the works over say, Star Fox(the last one came out on 2017, and flopped badly, plus sources can't be sure if the game is a racing game or a true Star Fox game)

A Link's Awakening remake on the 3DS honestly makes sense. Nintendo is still supporting the 3DS, most of the major 3DS games over the past year have been remakes such as Fire Emblem Echoes(Fire Emblem Gaiden), Metroid: Samus' Return(Metroid II: Return of Samus), the remakes of the Mario and Luigi games, and a remake of Luigi's Mansion.

My point is, out of all the games on the list I could buy into a 3DS remake of Link's Awakening. They can reuse the engine and many assets from A Link Between Worlds, its a popular game, and it would give the 3DS a major game this holiday season that would help move 3DS systems, but not overshadow anything on the Switch.

Re: Wolfenstein II Switch File Size Revealed, And It's Much Bigger Than We Were Originally Told

Caryslan

@AlbertXi Is is the fault of third-party developers that Nintendo does not know what a hard drive is in the year 2018?

We have seen this song and dance since the Nintendo 64 when every Nintendo home console has decided to have some quirk in the hardware that breaks the standards employed by other systems.

For the Nintendo 64 it was using carts of CDs, for the Gamecube it was using minidiscs over DVDs, for the Wii it was having underpowered, gimped hardware, and for the Wii U it was having a Gamepad, gimped hardware, and no hard drive built in.

People want to complain when third-parties don't support Nintendo platforms, but Nintendo does not make it easy. Its cool that Nintendo beats to their own drum when it comes to their hardware, but its a double edged sword.

By not having hard drives like on the PS4, PC, and Xbox One, developers are struggling to deal with no longer having a place for the data of their games to be stored, and on top of which, cards are still more expensive then disc-based media.

So, the classic carts vs disc issue have been revived on the Switch.

Its not the fault of the third-party developers. We should be grateful some of them was willing to put up with Nintendo's BS when it comes to hardware. It would be a lot easier to throw their arms up in the air and stick to the Playstation, Xbox, and PC.

Re: The NES Classic Edition Will Return To Store Shelves This June

Caryslan

@Jimsbo Gamestop is not doing their job, because they have been selling SNES Classic Editions on their website and in stores for about a week, that's how I got mine.

Since they aren't doing their job, I'll help my fellow gamers out.

https://www.gamestop.com/snes/consoles/super-nes-classic-edition/152771

Don't know about local stores, but they are still selling these brand new on their website for shipping.

Re: The NES Classic Edition Will Return To Store Shelves This June

Caryslan

Good to hear this, I just got a SNES Classic last week and will look to get a NES Classic as well.

As for an N64 Classic, well I don't care about it. Never liked the N64, thought the controller was stupid, and always thought it was an overrated system compared to the Playstation and Saturn.

Now, I would love to see a Gamecube Classic Edition.

I know this would upset people and Nintendo would be missing out on some money, but can we skip the N64 Classic Edition and make a Gamecube Classic Edition.

The Gamecube is, in my opinion, the second-best home console Nintendo put out after the SNES. It and its awesome library of games deserve some love.

Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves

Caryslan

@Azathoth I always loved the price argument that people used to toss around where they would act like paying $5.99 for NES games and $7.99 for SNES game was highway robbery.

But here's the things, the Virtual Console was often the cheaper option for many games. If people don't believe me, let's look at how much some of these games cost at Gamestop. One thing to note is that Gamestop is currently running a retro game sale, so some of these games will be reduced in price. I'll put the normal prices by them as well.

NES

Super Mario Bros: $9.99(Note the multicarts with Duck Hunt are cheaper, but the only option on the VC is the standalone version)

Super Mario Bros 2: $12.99($19.99 is the normal price)

Super Mario Bros 3: $12.99

The Legend of Zelda: $19.99($29.99 is the normal price)

Zelda II: $11.99($19.99 is the normal price)

Metroid: $14.99

Kirby's Adventure: $19.99

Mega Man: $69.99

Mega Man 2: $24.99

Mega Man 3: $19.99

Mega Man 4: $ 34.99

Mega Man 5: $69.99

Mega Man 6: $49.99

Castlevania: $19.99

Castlevania II Simon's Quest: $9.99

Castlevania III: $29.99

Ghosts and Goblins: $14.99

Ninja Gaiden: $9.99

Ninja Gaiden II: $ 9.99

Ninja Gaiden III: $49.99

Now, keep in mind that these are some of the most popular titles the NES has to offer and these are often the games people think of when they bring up the system. Many of these games sold millions of copies when they first came out, and these are the prices on Gamestop.

But I know what some of you are going to say. Those games are worth $5.99, but there's no way the shorter arcade games are worth that. So, let's take look at some of the shorter arcade style games on the NES and see how much buying a cart would cost ya.

Donkey Kong: $24.99

Donkey Kong Jr.: $24.99

Donkey Kong 3: $19.99

Mario Bros: $24.99

Balloon Fight: $19.99

Wrecking Crew: $14.99

So, paying $5.99 for these games on the VC is highway robbery and Nintendo being greedy, but yet these games command sizable prices on the secondary market.

By the way, here's the cost of an NES on Gamestop

$89.99

Now, let's move onto the SNES.

Super Mario World: $12.99(The normal price is $19.99)

Super Mario Kart: $24.99(The normal price is $34.99)

Super Mario RPG: $54.99

The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past: $21.99(The normal price is $29.99)

Super Metroid: $49.99

Kirby Super Star: $49.99

Kirby's Dream Course: $29.99

Kirby's Dream Land 3: $69.99

Earthbound: $199.99

Donkey Kong Country: $14.99($19.99)

Donkey Kong Country 2: $19.99

Donkey Kong Country 3: 29.99

Super Ghouls and Ghosts: $29.99

Super Castlevania IV: $39.99

Castlevania Dracula X: $149.99

Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting: $14.99

Mega Man X: $19.99(The normal price is $29.99)

Now, want a SNES to play these games on? Well, here's how much a used SNES will cost on Gamestop.

SNES System: $89.99.

So, what is my point to all this? Well, one of the most common complaints I heard for years regarding the Virtual Console was that the games were overpriced and that $5.99 and $7.99(with $9.99 for a couple of SNES games) were nothing but Nintendo being greedy.

I even hear it with the Switch when it comes to the arcade classics such as Punch-Out and Mario Bros. How $9.99 is Nintendo being greedy despite the cabinets being worth thousands of dollars, if you can even find them that is.

So, what are we now left with? Well, it appears the ability to simply buy older games and download them onto your system is now gone. So, we are left with you only having access to NES games if you sign up for the Nintendo network.

Now, $20 bucks a month and getting some games on top of that is a good deal. Until you consider the fact you don't own them. Suppose you can't afford your Nintendo Membership one month but want to play Super Mario Bros? Well, better hope you have it somewhere else.

What happens when the service shuts down? or the Switch Online Membership ends up being like Playstation Plus and Xbox Games for Gold, and games rotate in and out on a monthly basis?

Suppose they offer Earthbound or Super Mario World one month, but then pull it off? Well, if you missed that month you're screwed. If Nintendo never brings back those games, they you can't play them on your Switch, even if you have membership because you missed those games, and there is no way to buy those games on their own.

So, for everyone who banged and yelled loudly enough that Virtual Console games were too much and Nintendo was being greedy, pat yourselfs on the back. Because Nintendo has left behind the model of selling us games one by one(many of which are much cheaper then used copies are on the secondary market)

And have moved towards selling us games as part of a service or putting out microconsoles that will be hard to find.

One other thing is that when you miss a game on Playstation Plus or Xbox Games of Gold, you can still go out and buy the game. Not the best solution, but you aren't locked out of the game forever.

Unless Nintendo intends to bring these games out on their own, then you as the consumer will be locked out of certain games if Nintendo rotates them out of the lineup before you got a chance to get them.

But I suppose that is better then paying $5.99 for NES games and $7.99 for SNES games, huh?

Re: Dark Souls: Remastered Switch Network Test "Will Arrive Later" Than PS4 And Xbox One

Caryslan

@Heavyarms55 So, let me see if I understand this. Namco Bandai has gone to the trouble of buying or ensuring they have development kits for whoever is in charge of this port, worked with Nintendo themselves to make special Amiibo for the game, and have gone to great lengths to promote this game in the last Nintendo direct.

All so Namco Bandai can work alongside Sony to screw Nintendo out of a third-party game, and Namco Bandai has little reason to work with Nintendo in the future.

Even though Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was a smash hit on the Switch, the system got a nice Namco Museum, and they have already announced a Naruto game for the system.

Now tell me, what makes more sense. Your idea, or maybe the truth is that Nintendo is still waiting to launch their paid network and the Switch's hardware has quirks that the development team has to overcome, things they do not have to deal with on the Xbox One and PS4 such as a lack of a hard drive and Blu-Rays supporting more data then the game cards.

But let's just blame Sony. Because we can never admit that Nintendo's desire to produce hardware that ignores the standards of their rivals while having advantages, can carry severe weaknesses as well.

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For May And June

Caryslan

While I intend to get the Street Fighter Collection for my PS4, I'm a bit bummed out that it does not have Hyper Street Fighter II.

That would have been a crazy online game, since I could take say Championship Edition Ryu and played someone using a Super Turbo character online.

Super Turbo could have still been online for purists, but its a shame Hyper Street Fighter II which is the best version of the game was not included on the collection.

Re: Nintendo's Mobile Titles Have "Not Reached A Satisfactory Profit Point"

Caryslan

@westman98 Pokemon Go already proved this when sales of Pokemon Sun and Moon exploded to the point that it was impossible to find a 3DS or 2DS new or used during the Holiday season back in 2016.

Now, this is an amazing thing. The 3DS, which was over five years old(this is when most systems are past their prime) was sold out everywhere as people snapped up even first-gen 3DS consoles just to play Pokemon Sun and Moon.

I think Fire Emblem Heroes will also play a role in helping expose people to the franchise. One thing is that characters like Sigurd are being introduced to the west for the first time, which means if we ever get a Genealogy of the Holy War remake(which is likely the next in line)

These characters won't be such a shock to people.

Re: Nintendo's Mobile Titles Have "Not Reached A Satisfactory Profit Point"

Caryslan

Honestly, I think Nintendo just got into mobile gaming just to shut up the critics who kept demanding they make mobile game and how Nintendo would be unstoppable if they became a third-party developer.

Back when the Wii U was struggling, every two-bit analyst kept saying Nintendo could only survive if they went into the mobile market, and that even the handheld market is dying, despite the 3DS selling over 70 million units, selling over million 3DS games, and the 3DS proving to be a successful system that much like its older brother the Game Boy Advance, kept Nintendo going while the Wii U crashed and burned.

But people wanted to spin their narrative, and make it look like Nintendo was about to go the way of Atari and Sega, with their only salvation being going third party, especially in the golden, promise land of mobile gaming.

The failure of the Vita also did not help matters, because Sony rather then admitting they screwed up royally with the marketing, support, and promotion of their system, simply threw their hands up in the air, blamed the Vita's failures on mobile gaming, and went off to go count the millions they made off the PS4.

So, the combined failure of the Wii U and the Vita helped fuel the argument people made that Nintendo was an out of their league and unable to compete with a console, and that handheld gaming had been killed by mobile gaming.

As I said before, the sales of the 3DS were happily ignored. Every story focused on how the Wii U was failing and how Nintendo was on its way to being bankrupt unless they became a mobile game developer.

In a way, this is an extension of an older argument that people have made that Nintendo should become a third-party developer for Sony and Microsoft and stop with their systems.

So, I think Nintendo did get into mobile gaming for two reasons. Both to shut up shareholders and critics who declared they needed to embrace mobile gaming to save themselves, and also to have a plan B in case the Switch crashed and burned.

After all, the Wii U has been an unexpected failure for them, and the 3DS could not sustain their business forever. So, why not have a backup plan?

For Nintendo, they really had nothing to lose. If people embraced their mobile games, then they would earn some more pocket money and have a steady business to back themselves up. If the games did not do well, then it only validated Nintendo's argument that their business model was correct, and people don't know what they are talking about. All the while earning a little extra money for themselves.

Their focus was always on making the Switch a success and learning from the mistakes they made with the Wii U. The 3DS proved people were still more then willing to buy Nintendo hardware to play their games.

The Wii U failed because a silly gimmick was tacked onto it, the game libary while having some classics was lackluster overall, and third-parties ignored the system in droves.

Nintendo learned from those mistakes with the Switch. They never intended to make any real serious inroads into mobile gaming, because their model is the same as its always been. Use the popularity of their franchises to sell their own hardware.

In the end, Nintendo proved all the critics wrong. The mobile market is not the gold mine they think it is, handheld gaming is far from dead, given the Switch is selling very well by offering both worlds. and that there is a reason why Nintendo has avoided the fates that took down Sega, Atari, and countless other hardware makers over the years.

Nintendo may fail, they may get their nose bloodied and lose. But they have been making hardware for over thirty years because they understand the market better then anyone besides argubly Sony.

They know how to sell games, they know how to make people jump through hoops to play their games, and they know how to sell hardware. Critics and armchair fanboys will never understand that Nintendo knows the business better then they ever will.

The Game Boy proved it, the Wii Proved it, the DS Proved it, the NES proved it, and now the Switch proved it. Every single time, people bet against Nintendo and declared them outdated unless they give up hardware, and Nintendo has proven them wrong.

But this time, Nintendo got a little pocket change from their mobile game experiment and can leave the market anytime they wish by saying the market did not match their expectations. With the Switch and the 3DS, the ball is back in Nintendo's court.

There is a reason why Nintendo and Sony have been making consoles for over thirty and twenty plus years respectively. In the end, they know better then anyone how to market and sell video game hardware.

Re: God Of War And Far Cry 5 Push Nintendo Labo Into Third Place In The UK Charts

Caryslan

@LUIGITORNADO Because some people on here worship Nintendo and every product they make here, and think anything less then first place is because other gamers have terrible tastes in games.

To them, Nintendo could put a dog turd in a case and they would claim it the greatest idea over in gaming and a masterpiece that should be #1, and if it is not, its because the mainstream gamer only likes trashy, violent games.

Without a doubt, they love the Japanese charts because Nintendo's output caters heavily to Japan's tastes in gaming, which tends to favour quirky games that are often portable.

The US charts also tend to get a pass because they are monthly and Nintendo games still tend to do good.

But the UK charts tend to get slammed even though their tastes in games tend to be in line with the US. The only real problem is that Nintendo tends to chart lower than both Japan and the US.

My problem is how insulting some of these comments tend to be. For heaven's sake, Nintendo Labo got third place on the charts! Rather than being happy about it, do we have to be insulting by mocking people who like games like God of War.

I love Nintendo, but God of War is a game I intend to get my hands on this year. Does that mean I have terrible tastes because I like Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and God of War?

Rather than being insulting, arrogant, jerks, why don't we be glad Nintendo is doing well.

Does Nintendo make classic games? Yes, but in 2018, other companies can make great games as well, and if they beat Nintendo's output, its because they deserve te sales. Even stuff like Fifa and Call of Duty which are dismissed as trash are still good games at their core.

If a game charts, nine times out of ten its a damn good game that deserves to be there.

Maybe some of us can realize that and stop insulting the tastes of an entire country just because Nintendo took the bronze rather ten the Gold or Silver.

Re: The SNES Classic Edition Has Sold 5.28 Million Units Worldwide

Caryslan

I know it goes against popular opinion, but I would love to see Nintendo skip a N64 mini and make a Gamecube mini.

I don't really care about the N64, but a Gamecube mini would be insane in terms of the games that could be on offer for such a system.

You would have Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, the Metroid Prime games, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, the Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4, Sonic Adventure, and the list goes on and on.

Just tons more games, and much better then anything a N64 mini could offer.

Re: SNK Is Releasing A "Neo Geo Classic Edition" To Mark Its 40th Anniversary

Caryslan

@tanookisuit You know what, I like Atgames, especially when it comes to their handhelds. I have a 2016 Portable Genesis that I play almost as much as my 2DS. Yeah, the sound is off on it. Boo hoo, the hardcore fanboys can cry me a river.

Because its awesome to sit back in a chair and play Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Mortal Kombat 1-3, Flicky, Altered Beast, Golden Axe 1-3, and other Genesis games anywhere I want.

Its like having a Nomad with good battery life and a better screen. You know what, having that is worth the sound being off somewhat.

Plus, I like their TV consoles as well. Got the 2017 model(the Classic Game System, not the HD model) off Staples a few weeks ago and I'm having a blast.

Atgames' products are not aimed at the hardcore Genesis fans. They are aimed at people like me who grew up playing Sega Genesis, and want to play those games again. If you want perfect versions of the games, then go buy the old systems and carts off Gamestop.

Shining Force is 39 bucks while Shining Force is 43 bucks used on Gamestop. Even more common games like Golden Axe are 15 bucks.

My point is, for most people these systems are a good value. They play decently enough, offer some nice perks such as hooking up old controllers and playing old carts, look good enough even on modern TVs, and the only real knocks is the poor sound emulation and the trashy "bonus" games that take up space on the systems.

Now, I know everyone is going to point out the NES and SNES Classic Systems for being superior, and I won't argue that point. Here's the problem, I would love to get both but Nintendo's asine disturbtion model means most of these units end up in the hands of scalpers on Ebay.

So, I really don't care if Nintendo's offerings are better because I can't get my hands on either system. At least I can play and enjoy these Atgames systems without having to pay hundreds of bucks to scalpers.

They may not be perfect, but they do the job when I want to kick back and play some Sonic the Hedgehog or Mortal Kombat.

Re: Japan Is More Excited About Nintendo Labo Than God Of War

Caryslan

@NotSoCryptic While I've never played Bayonetta(I missed it on the platforms the games came out on and no longer own my Wii U, PS3, or Xbox 360) I have tried to play Devil May Cry and never really gotten into it.

On the other hand, besides God of War, I also enjoyed Ninja Gaiden(even 3 due to the Razor's Edge update on Wii U) and the 3D Castlevania games such as Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, and Lord of Shadows 1.

I like having serious characters as my main characters in hack and slash games, and while I can't speak for Bayonetta's violence, God of War and Ninja Gaiden are brutal, violent games that fully take advantage of the fact that you're chopping things in half.

Some people might call me sick, but I enjoy it. When I play games like those, I'm reminded of the old beat-ups where there was joy from beating in a thug's face with a lead pipe.

That I think is where God of War stands above its peers. Yes, you could argue other hack and slash games are deeper, but God of War excels in the fact that you can unload on things and just have a blast.

One other thing, while this is a Nintendo-fan site and people should be saying every idea Nintendo comes up with is a winner, I can't help but shake my feeling that Labo will be just like R.O.B., the old E-reader, the Wii Fit Board, and countless other attempts by other companies like the Kinect or toys to life to move beyond the controller and interact with a game system in a new way.

In other words, it will be supported for a while, and might even be a hot seller, but once it cools off Nintendo will give up on it and move on to something else. Gaming history is lined with countless ways to "innovate and expand gaming beyond controllers" and all of them have died once the novelty of the technology wears off.

I see Labo sharing this same fate.

Re: Japan Is More Excited About Nintendo Labo Than God Of War

Caryslan

Even if I had a Switch, I'm honestly not sure I would care that much for Labo. I don't get the concept at all, and it looks like something I would not really get into anyway. I understand games like that and Minecraft have a massive audience, but I can never get into them.

My time playing games is limited, and when I play games, I want to make progress by getting through a single-player game, getting some rare treasure or side-quest beaten, playing a CPU in a fighting game, or fighting people online, especially in games like Smash and Street Fighter V.

So for me, God of War holds more appeal then Labo would. God of War is one of the reasons why I wanted a PS4, and while I'm not going to get it day one, its one of my top games to pick up this year alongside Dragon Ball Fighter Z, and a few others.

Labo is great for people who enjoy that kinda thing, and I hope they get a blast out of it. As for me? I'm looking forward to God of War and killing things from Norse Mythology.

Re: AtGames Confirms It's Making The Mega Drive Mini, Then Deletes Tweet

Caryslan

@wazlon I hate to say this, but unless Nintendo cuts a major deal with Microsoft to get Rare's games on there, I don't really see how a Nintendo 64 is really going to be all that special.

Yeah, you'll have stuff like Mario 64, the two Zelda games, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, but let's be honest here. Many of the N64's most memoriable games were not made by Nintendo, but by Rare.

A Nintendo 64 mini would not be all that special without the Banjo games, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Diddy Kong Racing, Killer Instinct Gold, Perfect Dark, etc.

Personally, while wish Nintendo would just skip the Nintendo 64 and make a Gamecube mini.

Now, a Gamecube mini would be awesome. Imagine having Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Pikmin 1 and 2, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, the Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 0, the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and many more games all on one system.

But I'll admit, I'm biased. I always thought the Nintendo 64 was an overrated system with a bunch of games that have aged much faster than their Saturn and Playstation counterparts, while I think the Gamecube is the Nintendo's second-best home console after the SNES.

In other words, I'm a massive Gamecube fanboy.

Re: AtGames Confirms It's Making The Mega Drive Mini, Then Deletes Tweet

@manu0 Oh yes, let's have Nintendo handle this. Surely, they would have figured out the concept of supply and demand at some point.

Because they did such a great job of ensuring the NES and SNES mini were in the hands of all the gamers who wanted one, and did everything they could to make their customers happy.

The hardware on Nintendo's offerings might be vastly superior, but let's be honest here. Nintendo botched both the NES and SNES mini when it comes to distribution. Far too few units made it out to the hands of gamers, and a lot of people(myself included) were never able to get their hands on either model because Nintendo, a company who has produced home console hardware since 1985 suddenly forgot what supply and demand was.

Atgames' products might be crap, but they know how to ensure their Atari and Sega Genesis products end up in the hands of consumers at a decent price. I've seen their systems at Dollar Generals and Walgreens, and even QVC ran programs promoting both Atgames' Sega and Atari lines.

On top of which, most of the other plug and play retro systems have had some asine crap that holds them back from being successful. Remember the Neo Geo X? It was priced at $199 which put it outside the range most people are willing to spend on these kinds of consoles, and while Nintendo got the hardware and pricing right on their offerings, they never produced enough systems, causing many of the NES and SNES minis to end up in the hands-on people who resold them on eBay for tens or hundreds of times the original price.

Re: AtGames Confirms It's Making The Mega Drive Mini, Then Deletes Tweet

Caryslan

@Captain_Toad Because Atgames and Sega have sold 35 million units total of these Genesis consoles and handhelds since the line started years ago.

The sound emulation might be off, but they remain the cheapest way to play old Genesis games. The collections on the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PS4 require you to own one of those systems, and buying a real Genesis and even a couple of the games that come included will cost you some money.

The reason why these things sell is that the average consumer likely sees them on the shelf at the local Dollar General or Walgreens, goes "Hey, this thing has Sonic and Mortal Kombat! I remember those games!" and buys it either for themselves or a loved one.

They likely don't even notice the sound being off, It's been years since they played Genesis after all. All that matters is that they are playing games from their childhood again.

Its the same reason why the Atari Models sell year after year as well. Atgames and Sega really have no reason to improve anything because there is no viable threat to them right now.

Yeah, the NES and SNES Minis sold well, but because Nintendo can't figure out what supply and demand is when it comes to those little systems, Nintendo can't really make a dent into a market Atgames has cornered.

If Nintendo would step up their game, solve their supply issues, and put NES and SNES Minis in the same stores that Atgames targets, you might see some things change.

But for right now, Nintendo really can't do a damn thing to take over this market. They don't have enough systems, and the NES and SNES minis are more secondary projects for them than anything else.

Re: Feature: Here's What Pro Players Want From Super Smash Bros On Switch

Caryslan

@Thisismycomment How is e-sports any worse then paying a guy millions of dollars to catch a football? Especially if they play on a losing teams.

People play Poker professonally, how is that any different? By your logic, people are making money winning Poker Tournaments at the expense of card makers.

Besides, how are these players taking advantage of companies when Capcom, Namco Bandai, Microsoft, Warner Brothers Games, Nintendo, and others not only sponsor and promote tournaments, but are actively invovled often with offering equipment and other stuff.

If anything, fighting game companies are promoting e-sports because its a nice way to promote their games, People are going to play Street Fighter and Smash Bros in tournaments, there is no stopping that unless a law is passed banning video game tournaments outright.

So, why not support these players?

Re: No, Sega Is Not Returning To The Home Console Arena

Caryslan

@HappyMaskedGuy Have you even played any of Sega's consoles? Because there is a reason why the Genesis and Dreamcast are considered some of the best systems of all time, the Master System is beloved, and even the Saturn is still a good system given all its issues(it a hell of a lot better then the N64 with tons more games)

About the only crappy system in Sega's lineup in the 32X, and even Nintendo has their stinkers, namely the Virtual Boy and the Wii U.

The Dreamcast and Saturn were better systems then the Wii U. There, I said it.

Re: Dragon Quest XI On Switch Will Arrive "Much Later" Than Other Versions

Caryslan

@Malakai If you want to push a Japanese franchise in the west, you put it on home consoles, which is what most people in the west prefer to play on.

No insult to the 3DS, I love mine. But in the west, a handheld has always been viewed as a secondary console, while handhelds are the main consoles of choice in Japan due to differences in culture.

Look at Monster Hunter World. It's a franchise that has been on handhelds for decades, with only a few stops in that time on home consoles. Its also a franchise Capcom has struggled to push in the west.

So, Capcom decides to take a gamble and make Monster Hunter World a console and PC exclusive game in the west. And the gamble paid off, given Monster Hunter World is not only the fastest selling game in Capcom's history but their fourth best-selling game of all time, with Monster Hunter being the top selling game in the US in January and February 2018.

The point is, I can see Square Enix's logic here. Rather then trying to promote a 3DS version, they are going to push the best version in the west and promote that version on PS4 and PC, with the Switch coming later.

Its not Square Enix betraying anyone. They simply think this is the best way to finally push Dragon Quest in the west and have it break through the glass ceiling.

Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel

Caryslan

@bluedogrulez This is not the fault of the video game companies, this is the fault of the parents for not bothering to learn what a rating system means.

The ESRB has existed for over 20 years, the content descriptors are very clear on games as to what content a game features. Why don't I pull off a couple of games on my shelve and see what they say?

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is rated Teen and includes the following content on the ESRB label

"Animated Blood"

"Fantasy Violence"

"Suggestive Themes."

What about an M rated game? Well, I pulled my copy of God of War III off the shelve as well.

Well, here is what is says for content accroding to the ESRB

"Blood and Gore"

"Intense Violence"

"Nudity"

"Strong Language"

"Strong Sexual Content"

These ratings and content descriptors are clear as day and are very easy to understand. If a kindergartener is running around playing Hitman and acting like the main character, then the parents, guardians, or whoever bought them the game have failed to keep content like this out of that child's hands.

A kindergardner should not even be playing a game like Fire Emblem, much less Hitman.

When I was a child, my mother never allowed me or my brother to play violent games that were above our age groups. She knew what games were, and even to this day, she still keeps on top of it.

Blaming violent video games is like blaming guns and acting like they should be banned. A violent video game should never make it into the hands of a child. If such a game does, then there was a breakdown somewhere and a parent needs to figure out what it was.

I've been in stores and seen parents buy Halo and Call of Duty for their kids. This is not a failure of the media itself, its a failure and neglect of your duty to keep this content out of the hands of children. Tell me, how is it Ed Boon's fault if Mortal Kombat ends up in the hands of a child?

No, I don't think violent video games are the problem, and even if they were, why do they get blamed alone when you have TV shows and movies that are easier to access due to many of them being on broadcast networks and streaming services?

Or how about the fact that you have porn and violent videos at your fingertips often with no ratings oversight? I love AVGN, but a kid could access it easily on Youtube and watch a show that features curse words, crap flying everywhere, dirty humor, and other content not for kids.

My point is this, people want to point the finger at video games and the White House wants to trot out videos showcasing violence in games, but other media seems to fine. Some of which is easier to access and often have no ratings system!

Re: Random: Join Us As We Do Our Best To Guess The Super Smash Bros. For Switch Roster

Caryslan

@rjejr Given I play the Fire Emblem Characters, Mega Man, Duck Hunt Dog, and Dr. Mario, you pretty much cut most of the characters I like to use.

By the way, you do realize your "No Sword" rule also means everyone from Fire Emblem will be cut, as will Meta Knight who is a popular character from the Kirby series, and even characters like Greninja(who uses a water sword in some of his attacks)

I get cutting down the number of sword fighters, but to cut out everyone besides Link is a bit extreme.

Re: Super Smash Bros. For Switch Is Coming This Year, And It's Got Inklings

Caryslan

@ParasolStars The development cycle of Smash for the Wii U and 3DS was not six years. Sakurai did not even start on the game until he finished Kid Icarus Uprising which launched in 2012. Smash Bros for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS came out in 2014.

So, we can assume Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS both spent about 2-3 years in development.

Super Smash Bros launched in 1999 and Melee came out in late 2001 on brand new hardware. Again, a development cycle of about 2 years.

Melee to Brawl is the longest gap between entries in the series, but we know Brawl's development started at least in 2004 since a trailer was being shown off in 2005 and the game was pegged at one point to be a launch title for the Wii.

So, let's assume Brawl had a development cycle of 3-4 years.

My point is, people are assuming that the entire time between Smash games represents development time. It does not. Most of the Smash games have taken 2-3 years to make, with Brawl taking the longest time to develop between sequels.

Super Smash Bros was made in about a year.

Saying it takes Smash Bros six years to develop between games is like saying Street Fighter V took 8 years to develop since that was the gap between it and Street Fighter IV.

Re: Super Smash Bros. For Switch Is Coming This Year, And It's Got Inklings

Caryslan

@MarinaKat You have a good point, but here's what I don't understand. Nintendo is infamous for porting games from older systems to newer hardware, especially if the games in question were on hardware that did not do very well.

Nintendo has not hidden the fact that they are filling the Switch's schedule this year with ports of Wii U games. These games have been shown off with their new features hyped and its been made very clear that these are ports

If this is a port, why suddenly drop a trailer with the inklings(who are the top picks for newcomers in the next Smash Bros) and call it a day?

Why not show off gameplay? We just sat through a Nintendo Direct that saw Nintendo hyping numerous ports of Wii U games coming to the Switch. Nintendo hyped the hell out of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and showed it off when they ported it to the Switch.

Why be silent on a port of Smash for the Wii U/3DS if its just a deluxe version?

It makes no sense, and goes against everything that Nintendo has done with their other Wii U to Switch ports.

People know what Smash 4/5 is. There is not point in hiding it.

But if its a new Smash game, it makes sense to drop a short trailer, build insane hype, and then unleash a full look at the game during E3.

The thing with Smash is that this is not the first time Nintendo has randomly dropped a new Smash Game in passing. At E3 2012, Iwata randomly dropped that Smash was coming to the Wii U, even though development had not even started yet.

This is not a port. This is a new Smash game. I stand by my belief in that. If this is a simple port, why change the Website, why hype Link's BOTW look(Link only changes appearances in new Smash games), why not show off the game if it was yet another Wii U to Switch Port?

Re: Super Smash Bros. For Switch Is Coming This Year, And It's Got Inklings

Caryslan

I'm in the camp that this is a brand new entry of the Smash series and is Smash 6(By the way, Sakurai considers Smash 3DS "Smash 4" and the Wii U game "Smash 5" I'll dig up the interview when I have some time.

If this was just a dolled-up port with the Inklings added in, why not do the trailer in the style of Smash 4's newcomer trailers? Why not show gameplay?

I think this is Smash 6, and for all we know, there is some new gameplay mechanic that they do not want to show off yet.

If this is just another port, why not show off more?

One other thing, why is the website replaced with a link to Smash 3DS/Wii U's site on the bottom? If this is an enhanced port, why replace the website?

Hyrule Warriors has a link on the website for the Wii U version that openly states there is a Switch Port coming in 2018, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker's website has a notice that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch and 3DS in 2018, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze also has a notice that its coming to the Switch in May of 2018.

So, why is Smash Bros the only one with a brand new website? All these other Wii U ports that are coming to the Switch all have their Wii U pages up, with a notice somewhere on the page that says its coming to the Switch.

Why? Because this is the real deal. This is the newest entry in the Smash Bros series.

Re: Rumour: Is This Really Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Running On Switch?

Caryslan

@Anti-Matter Do you play Smash Bros? Because there have been two characters from "M" rated franchises in the series so far.

I'm not sure I understand the argument you're making. I get that you dislike Mature rated games, but it not like having characters from Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and others like Wolverine and Deadpool are suddenly causing the game to have blood spilled over all the place.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you play both Dragon Ball and Naruto games. I'm a fan of both franchises, and the core manga and anime for both franchises are very violent and graphic, with characters that bleed, arms and limbs that get cut off, and tons of other graphic violence.

That's on top of both franchises having lovely topics like Genocides, massive body tolls when the villains go on rampages(Dragon Ball does this more), and tons of content that makes me wonder how either franchise is considered a "kids" series in Japan.

Even Dragon Ball Super, with the lack of blood in the anime version still is very graphic in the manga. Plus, the anime does not dance around Zamasu and Black's rampage that killed the gods of the multiverse and plunged Future Trunks' world into a worse nightmare then the androids, and the Tournament of Power which basically has a rule that states a defeated Universe gets erased for good.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I'm a bit confused. You won't play Marvel vs Capcom 3 because it features characters from Mature rated franchises, but you'll play games based on Dragon Ball and Naruto, which while not the most violent anime's out there, are still pretty graphic. Have you read the source material for either one of those franchises?

I would think you would stay far away from Naruto and Dragonball games. The games may be rated teen, but that's because they are often lighter and softer adaptions that cut out much of the blood and gore, and skip over many of the more disturbing moments of the source material.

Re: Check Out All These New Discounts on My Nintendo in North America

Caryslan

I miss Club Nintendo. At least I could score a nice download game for my system! Now, not only can't I just use the coins for download games, but you can no longer register physical games which means you miss out on coins.

Plus, no more nifty year-end bonus.

I did not think it was possible, but Nintendo took one program that had some issues but was decent and replaced it with a program that is total garbage.

Thanks Nintendo!

Re: Video: The 26 Best Game Boy Advance Games of All Time

Caryslan

How can you pick Fire Emblem over Sacred Stones for this list?

I don't care what people say, Sacred Stones is the best Fire Emblem on the GBA with a map, the ability to play non-storyline battles, the chance to train weaker units, branching promotions, and in my honest opinion, a much better storyline then Fire Emblem with a better cast.

I don't know why it always gets shafted on lists like this. Sacred Stones is my second favorite game in the entire series, only being Path of Radiance on the Gamecube.
