It’s been a number of years since Nintendo shuttered its Club Nintendo loyalty program, replacing it with the new and improved My Nintendo. Though the service started out quite anemic, it’s slowly gained in relevance and value, although many would no doubt say that it has yet to eclipse the quality of its predecessor. Nonetheless, Nintendo keeps supporting it regularly, and some tempting new discounts have appeared for those in North America.
Though the Switch is still frustratingly absent, several great Wii U and 3DS titles have been discounted. The list is as follows:
Platinum Points
– 30% discount on Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) – 400 Platinum Points
– 40% discount on Star Fox Guard (Wii U) – 400 Platinum Points
– 40% discount on Dr. Luigi (Wii U) – 400 Platinum Points
– 30% discount on 1080 Snowboarding (Wii U) – 240 Platinum Points
– 40% discount on Chibi-Robo!: Photo Finder (3DS) – 310 Platinum Points
Gold Points
– 20% discount on Tomodachi Life (3DS) – 30 Gold Points
– 20% discount on Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS) – 30 Gold Points
– 40% discount on Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure (3DS) – 30 Gold Points
– 40% discount on Rhythm Heaven Megamix (3DS) – 90 Gold Points
– 40% discount on Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash (3DS) – 90 Gold Points
– 30% discount on BoxBoxBoy! (3DS) – 20 Gold Points
– 30% discount on Kirby’s Blowout Blast (3DS) – 20 Gold Points
– Super Mario: Pastel Pink (3DS theme) – 20 Gold Points
What do you think? Are you tempted by any of these? How much longer will it be until the Switch rewards arrive? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

“Soon” probably means over a year...
We're almost one year since the Switch launch, and still no Switch rewards D:
That "coming soon" tag on the Switch rewards section has been mocking us for 11 months now.
meh. maybe, the discount for photo finder. but, thats about it.
"Replacing it with the new and improved My Nintendo."
Uh-huh. Yeah. Sure.
Remember when everyone hated Club Nintendo for not doing enough? Oh, have the tables turned.
Switch awards will inevitably arrive once the 300 gold points that I have expiring in March alone are gone. Both Wii U and 3DS have personally been retired so nothing for me here. Sigh!
Maybe the reward for having a switch is just having one.
My Memetomo tickets website will soon be used EVEN LESS since.....TOAST!
No rewards for me until the next rotation. Truth be told, I don't mind very much; I need to keep clawing through my backlog...and saving for a Switch.
@Phin68 Club Nintendo gave me 2 exclusive Game & Watch DS Games, some Zelda soundtracks, a statue, a pack of Hanafuda cards, an exclusive Punch Out game, a Game and Watch, posters, and more.
My Nintendo has given me some items in Mario Run.
This is utterly and Truly Ridiculous for real as a Nintendo fan and consumer I want to make the best out of these type of programs for being a loyal game consumer cause now I have over a 1,000 coins and I don't know when or how I will be able to use them freaking sucks and u know Nintendo this will be War!
@imgrowinglegs
I still have my blue reversible pouch...
@SheldonRandoms how, do you know that toast is less used?
do you work for Nintendo or something...
I got so many things from Club Nintendo up to and including a Gold Nunchuk. Multiple soundtracks, hanafuda cards, regular playing cards, a replica Game and Watch, a pin set, various bags, a puzzle, and so much more. Not to mention game downloads to the tune of Mario Golf World Tour and many, many more.
My Nintendo has given me... 3DS themes for the 3DS I don't use anymore, a Zelda Picross game, and a couple of downloadable eShop games that I have to dig out the system to redeem. Meanwhile nothing for the system I actually use.
Nah these deals are terrible, especially that zip lash deal. You can regularly find the game for under $7. Heck I tried to trade in that terrible game at gamestop and even they wouldn't take it. If spending 90 gold coins for a 40 percent discount on a $30 game that isn't even worth $5 isn't considered a rip off then I don't know what is.
Nope. These are still trash for the most part. You shouldn't be using gold points for small discounts. All those "rewards" do is take more of your money. And It's also ridiculous that the Switch isn't supported.
I’m one of the biggest Nintendo apologists, but My Nintendo is not even close to even the North American version of Club Nintendo.
By the time they get around to discounting these titles, most Nintendo fans own them. The only game I’ve picked up was Zelda Picross. For the most part, my points have either expired or been used for Wallpapers and 3DS themes.
So, the only thing I have from My Nintendo is a real nice dynamic screensaver for my computer.
Switch is STILL MIA.
Fixed.
The one thing I got some actual use out of is Mighty Switch Force, which I never got around to playing.
Europe got updated too, but the editors of this site don't seem to keep an eye on that. Do you only react to press releases? This is supposed to be a UK focussed site!
@riChchestM Are you referring to this?
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/01/new_my_nintendo_discounts_go_live_in_europe
It's not that they're not focused, they just don't update the two sites at the same time.
Thought about getting 1080 for a split second before realizing I still don't know if I'll ever be able to transfer over to Switch eventually.
@Paddle1 No that's old, way old already. There are newer discounts. Even the post you point out was late.
I'm already out of points since they all expired. Nothing worth spending on except wallpapers...
...Whoo....more discounts....and....pink.
Nintendo should kill My Nintendo already. It offers crap awards and bonus disappear after a while. What the point? Nintendo really should be more flexible on discounts and on line policy
Oh, boy! Minor discounts on titles some of us have had for years. Whoopie!
My Nintendo
This is for the players
I think its safe to assume that switch rewards will be available once the online service starts I doubt we will get anything before then. by that point all my points will have expired no doubt
My 900 points expired a few days ago, unused because of no switch rewards to spend them on...so yeah, cheers for that.
Rubbish! With the Wii U disaster behind them, and now that Nintendo are doing well again, how about resurrecting the far superior Club Nintendo?
Free mini Labo kits would be a smart start!
Might get Boxboxboy. But someone should really slap Nintendo in the face right now because these “rewards” are ******** awful.
Losing 140 gold points in February then losing 48 in march. I'm gonna get all the wall papers and all miitomo outfits. I'm so cool I know
I wound up getting Kirby, bitboxboy, and the mario theme. I might end up grabbing star fox guard too.
I love watching my points expire...
Thought about picking up SF Guard for $6 b/c I thought it was $10 originally. But it's still $15, so it would be $9, so no. Old system, old game. I'd give them 1,500 Plat coins for the game for free, maybe 10 gold, but that discount is a joke with the game still at full price 2 years later.
I once saw SFZ boxed for about $15, I remember now making the joke that they should have advertised it as "Buy SFG, get SFZ for free". Didn't buy it then b/c I thought $15 was too much as I have no interest in Zero, the Guard demo was fun though. Just not $9 fun.
Still 30% off? Sigh. I prefer trying to get good deals in Black Friday or in other moments for the games that have a physical version.
The recent eShop sale offered steeper discounts than this.
On a side note, I hope my points don’t all expire before Switch rewards become available. 😰
I'm hopeful by the time Nintendo Switch Online releases this September, we'll be dealing with a completely revamped My Nintendo.
@Phin68 I was thinking the same thing! I, for one, always loved Club Nintendo, even when others were ready for a new service. I'll spare you my rant about why people should've been happy with what they had--mostly because I made a lengthy post about it a good while back, and I don't wanna go through all that again.
I never got anything from Club Nintendo because I lived in Venezuela and now I live in Mexico, both are countries where Nintendo didn't have the rewards program.
So, my Nintendo might suck, but I still prefer it. This is a classic case of first-world-problems in the third world.
I don't even check these out anymore. I'm not really interested in getting anything else for my Wii U and unless it's something specific that I've been wanting to play on my 3DS, I'm not really interested in anything for that either. Basically I've come to the conclusion that by the time they provide rewards that cater to the Switch, my points will be expired!
In fact, I think Nintendo should remove all exasperation on points generated by Switch purchases until they're able to provide rewards for the Switch.
The only thing that My Nintendo is good for is watching your points expire...
I miss Club Nintendo. At least I could score a nice download game for my system! Now, not only can't I just use the coins for download games, but you can no longer register physical games which means you miss out on coins.
Plus, no more nifty year-end bonus.
I did not think it was possible, but Nintendo took one program that had some issues but was decent and replaced it with a program that is total garbage.
Thanks Nintendo!
@Caryslan
Actually you can register physical games for coins. If you hit the options button (+) while on the game you'll be taken to a page where you can go to "My Nintendo Rewards Program". Your game has to be in the cartridge slot to register it. Now, I will say this, you get a criminal amount of gold coins for physical games. Only 12 coins for a $60 game, vs 50 or 60 coins for a digital $60 game.
I know it's a sad amount, but still, it's something. I miss Club Nintendo too. I got that really cool Smash Bros. soundtrack from that, and those cool one of a kind things are sorely missed for Nintendo's most appreciative fans. My Nintendo is an absolute joke.
All I see is lies
Europe also got some stuff added for those that care.
A lot of my digital VC games on my Wii U came from Club Nintendo. The only things I've gotten from My Nintendo are two picross games, 3DS themes and wallpapers...
What My Nintendo needs is to be what it was promised to be. Iwata said we would get custom discounts and deals according to how we behave. If I play a lot of Mario Kart, I probably would enjoy discounts for other racing games or Mario games. The same with RPG's and other genres/franchises (of course, Nintendo would know which games you have so it can only offer games you don't). Deals for my birthday? Sure. Christmas? Of course. Just give me deals for games that I would really want.
@Devlind "of course, Nintendo would know which games you have so it can only offer games you don't"
Indeed. Instead, here are 11 of the things currently being offered (most just at a discount): Mario Kart 7, SMB3, Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure, Mighty Switch Force!, Mario Kart 8 DLC 1, and DLC 2.
I name those because I already own all of them (all digitally, in fact). They say "You can get this!" on the page. Shouldn't "You can also use this!" be implied? Because I wouldn't be able to use any of them even if I tried. I don't exactly feel the personal touch that should be implied My Nintendo.
And of course, that's just one pathetic aspect of the site. To me, it's been utter garbage. I'd almost prefer no program at all to this. I know that sounds weird, because something is technically better than nothing. But going to the site every time there are new "rewards" only to be disappointed every single time is in many ways worse than just buying games and enjoying them, not expecting more. It's for that reason that I'll often forget the site even exists for 3 or 4 months at a time - which is why, when I just now went to the site, I learned that 80 of my formerly 180 gold coins expired a month ago. (And I don't even feel bad about it. I had nothing to spend them on anyway.)
tl;dr
I miss Club Nintendo...
Bah and I just spent 120 gold coins on... expiration.
Some decent discounts, but I think I'm pretty much done buying games for my Wii U. I hope some Switch rewards appear before the rest of my coins disappear.
Maybe they'll let us pay for Nintendo Online with coins, that'd at least give us something useful to spend them on.
@Rocky2418 Precisely. I hope we see more of that promised My Nintendo once the Switch support launches.
BTW, your avatar fits perfectly with your comment.
I just went through my coins history to see how many coins I've lost to expiration.
1060 Platinum and 200 Gold.
I've only redeemed 660 Platinum and 100 Gold for actual rewards.
Looks like I get 60 gold coins from a full priced game purchase, so to get those 200 gold coins that vanished I had to spend about $200 on the eShop.
From my experience this rewards program is doing more harm than good.
@Devlind
How so? Just curious.
@Rocky2418 The guy looks kind of sad, just like how you sounded with the "I miss Club Nintendo..." part.
I still liked the freebies as opposed to this new use your points for discounts on old games you probably already own or passed on long ago. Ive been using my points mainly on themes for my 3ds and the ocassional 3ds game freebie. But I will keep on hoarding them until something interests me.
@Devlind
Ah, yeah. Gotcha.
I have over 450 gold coins that are going to start to disappear soon because I can’t spend them on ANYTHING worthwhile!!! I already own or have owned most of the major 3DS titles, I don’t have a Wii U anymore because I got $240 for it at Gamestop when I traded it in during the Switch launch last March, AND THERE ARE NO SWITCH REWARDS ALMOST A YEAR AFTER ITS LAUNCH!!! Get with it Nintendo! PLEASE!!!! I am DYING to give you my money but yet you WILL NOT give me reasons to spend it! No virtual Console. No online infrastructure. No My Nintendo Switch rewards!!!
I just don’t understand why my favorite gaming company can do SO MUCH RIGHT, but at the same time, DO SO MUCH WRONG.
It is infuriating
Japan are getting physical rewards now and then on their MyNin.
Didn't nintendo kill off physical rewards because they were too expensive to manufacture/send out/stock?
Considering how well the switch is now doing they probably will bring something back to EU/US just nothing as elaborate as before.
Also, when has this site ever claimed to be UK centric?
How is it so hard to just post some discounts for Switch games? It would be more acceptable to make us wait if Gold Points didn't expire... but they do.
So ready for them to add switch stuff. I've got all these pointless coins that will probably all be expired before I have anything to spend them on. I've already got everything I'm going to get for 3ds and Wii u and whatever I've missed I'm not interested in anymore
I really don't understand why Nintendo can't offer more actually GOOD rewards with MyNintendo when they were pefectly able to do so with Club Nintendo, particularly in Japan and here in Europe.
How can anyone think discounts on old digital games are good rewards for a loyalty program? Obviously anyone loyal enough to get rewards already has those games or is REALLY not interested.
Club Nintendo offered exclusive completely FREE physical rewards, FREE physical games, FREE digital games, Wii Shop points that i could spend however i wanted... those are the rewards MyNintendo needs.
I hate My Nintendo so much...
I lost over 500 platinum points last week, and more before that. Lost plenty of gold points, too. Such an amazing replacement to Club Nintendo!
@MoonKnight7 Yeah, I've got a bunch of physical games that I can claim gold points for but holding off till Switch Rewards (hopefully) show up. You have up to 2 years after the gams release to claim the gold points.
Club Nintendo was so much better. I got a SNES classic controller for my Wii, a bunch of Zelda soundtrack cds and liked the fact that you could exchange stars for Wii Shop points and buy what you want. I'd prefer it if they just bought back something like the Wii U Rewards program where you could get eshop credit for the games you bought.
@Rocky2418 Avoiding any debates about the show and I don't know if you were a an actual fan. But as a huge Lostie myself, your avatar simultaneously warms and breaks my heart. I'm sure anyone familiar with the character will understand why.
But back to the topic of My Nintendo, it has been extremely disappointing and that's probably an understatement (though I was able to score Skyward Sword at a discount a while back)
@UmbreonsPapa
First off, I coincidentally used that same discount on Skyward Sword a while back, selling my physical copy.
Yeah, Lost is my all-time favorite show, and John Locke is hands down my favorite character. (I'm guessing you know at what point in his life that picture comes from, and I'm glad it evokes that response from you.) I can sympathize greatly with his struggle on the show - believing, even knowing, that something critically important is true, but not having a single person believe you until it's too late (at least, too late for you).
In case you're interested, I actually made an automatic music level of Locke's theme in Super Mario Maker. I furiously worked hard to get it finished before Miiverse ended, because I wanted to use in-level comments to include the perfect heart-wrenching narration quotes to go along with the music, so that I could at least record it for YouTube before they disappeared. Additionally, about a year before that, I finished a monstrous two-part music level (took me about 150 hours in total) of the show's concluding 8-minute "Moving On" theme - also with narration. If you'd like the links to those to see / listen to, just let me know. (Assuming it's okay to post YouTube links here? If not, my YouTube name is the same as mine here, so you can probably find it without much trouble.) Always great to meet a fellow Lostie!
I love how Nintendo hates the Wii U now that the Switch is out in every possible way (discontinuing Miiverse, stopping 1st party exclusives months before the Switch's launch, taking the Wii U out of their main website menu, etc.) EXCEPT when it comes to their rewards.
@Rocky2418 Not sure about the rules on YouTube links. But I will definitely go check out your videos.
And yes, it's always pleasure to meet other Losties.
@Shinnos
I know right?! I got that sweet Zelda poster series for the 25th anniversary. Club Nintendo was a clunky mess, but the rewards were still good. When Nintendo said they were replacing it with something else, I was hopeful it was purely cosmetic and they'd fix some user interface problems. For instance, if Club Nintendo announced a cool physical reward, if you weren't on it right away, the site would go down for days.
But instead, with My Nintendo, I sit there and watch my coins expire cause I don't want discounts on games I already own.
Yeah hold off as long as you can before you cash in your coins. I'd have to imagine that Switch rewards will come soon, but who knows.
I was initially a My Nintendo apologist, but at this point Nintendo should do one of these things to improve it:
1) As @Rocky2418 mentioned, leverage their big data collection to offer discounts/free downloads of games that you don't actually own and would be interested in.
2) Increase the number of discounts/free downloads for eShop-only games, since you can generally get physical copies for cheaper via sales or secondhand shops.
3) Forget the system of offering a limited set of specific discount rewards and just offer cash equivalent in eShop credit. 100 platinum = $1, 8 gold = $1. Less exciting than a system with a lot of desirable specific benefits, but everyone wins, assuming Nintendo is actually doing something useful with all of the data they're collecting.
