Re: Nintendo Switch Launches In Brazil With More Than 100 Games Available Day One

Caryslan

Will the Switch manage to dethrone the almighty Master System in Brazil?

Or will the plucky 8-Bit Sega System that refuses to die manage to endure yet again?

By the way, that's not a joke. The Master System has been in Brazil since 1989 and remained very popular and in production since then.

Even with 100 games at launch, I don't think the Switch will be winning in Brazil anytime soon.

Which is kinda funny when you think about it. Sega is not even in the home console business anymore, and yet one of their pieces of hardware still manages to thrive and endure all these years later to the point where the Master System now holds the record for the longest lifespan of any console ever made.

That is so strange and warms my heart as a Sega fanboy.

Re: Microsoft Has Just Bought Bethesda, Giving It Doom, Fallout, Elder Scrolls And Wolfenstein

Caryslan

@Taarna After Nintendo sold them off, what happens beyond that is no longer a Nintendo Fan's concern.

Did Microsoft screw up with Rare? Yes, but I think the studio was headed down a downward path when Nintendo sold them.

Why would Nintendo sell off a studio and it's franchises(which they owned at the time) to a rival in the console market unless something was wrong behind the scenes?

A studio that was a major assest to them on the SNES and likely helped keep the N64 alive?

I think Rare's decline was bound to happen no matter who owned them. Nintendo saw the writing on the wall and bailed before things got bad.

Re: Microsoft Has Just Bought Bethesda, Giving It Doom, Fallout, Elder Scrolls And Wolfenstein

Caryslan

@JaxonH Hardcore Sony fanboys have a massive double standard when it comes to exclusives They love to get their hands on exclusives and rub them in the faces of Xbox and Nintendo gamers.

I remember them gloating about Street Fighter V until the game launched(although they kinda shut up once Capcom released it in a half-finished state) and this has been going on for years.

But if Nintendo or Microsoft dares to scoop up an exclusive for themselves, they cry foul and whine about how unfair it is.

When Nintendo got their hands on Bayonetta years ago and made the second game exclusive to the Wii U, Sony fanboys were the ones who cried the loudest about how Nintendo was not being fair and had stolen a game from them.

Nevermind the fact that the rights were offered to all three console makers and other third-party studios, and Nintendo was the only one who stepped up to the plate.

Since the PS5 event last week, Sony fanboys have rubbed it everyone's face that they were getting Final Fantasy XVI and said that the Xbox had nothing.

Well, Microsoft has responded in a big way, and now they are once again acting like crybabies. I've even seen some go as far as to ask the government(which just allowed Disney to buy Fox) to step in and block the merger.

The fact of the matter is, Microsoft made one hell of a move. The Nintendo fanboys are acting pretty mature and are only concerned if they will see games come from Bethesda.

Sony fanboys are up in arms and acting like Microsoft played a dirty move and are demanding Microsoft pay.

No, Microsoft just got tired of not having development studios to make first-party games and Sony scooping up exclusives and decided to kill two birds with one stone by opening up their massive war chest and spending some cash.

Sony got beat at its own game, and now the hardcore fanboys are losing their minds. I have to admit, I'm enjoying the show.

(By the way, before anyone accuses me of bias, I have a PS4, PSP, and PS2. I don't mind Sony or the Playstation brand. I do prefer my Xbox, but that's because of the games on the platform. I do have an issue with hardcore Sony fanboys.)

Re: Nintendo Has More Media Projects In The Works Beyond The Mario Movie

Caryslan

@BerniMacjr I would rather see a Fire Emblem show animated. Not everything needs to be live-action, and I just don't see how Fire Emblem's style or the odd hair color choices of some of the characters would work well in live-action.

Also, if it were animated it would stand out compared to Game of Thrones, The Witcher TV Show, and pretty much any other general fantasy show or movie.

Re: Nintendo Has More Media Projects In The Works Beyond The Mario Movie

Caryslan

@MarioBrickLayer I think Fire Emblem would work better for that kinda show. Not only do you have 14 games to pull from, but they often tackle darker subject matter than any of the Zelda games. People love to call the franchise a waifu simulator, but even the recent Fire Emblem games still tackle tons on pretty dark themes even if the games get Teen ratings. Celica for example is the daughter of a Priestess that pretty much got kidnapped in the middle of the night where she was forced to become King Lima IV's wife(well, one of many) or the fact that Path of Radiance tosses in alot of racism between Beorcs(humans) and Laguz(The beastmen of the games)

I'm not saying Zelda can't get dark, but if you want a franchise that often crosses into darker themes and works well as a "Nintendo franchise turned into something like Game of Thrones" Fire Emblem works well, especially given its major war themes.

Plus, I just don't see how Zelda would work as a TV show unless Link speaks.

With Fire Emblem, all the Lords speak in the games and play a major role in the plot.

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?

Caryslan

Here's something a lot of people might have missed since they are focused on Super Mario Galaxy 2 not being in the montage.

That was the fact that Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins was left out of the montage as well. Super Mario Land 2 is one of the most important games ever made and should have been between Super Mario World and Super Mario 64, but it was missing.

We have already gotten remakes of Samus Returns, Pokemon Yellow, and Link's Awakening on the 3DS and Switch. Super Mario Land 2 remains the only big Game Boy game left not to get a remake.

Could Nintendo have a full remake lined up for Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins? Why would they leave that game out while highlighting Super Mario Land 1?

Re: Random: Finally, Sonic The Hedgehog Spins Onto The Super Nintendo

Caryslan

@Averagewriter While I agree with you about A Link To The Past, I could argue that a game like Sonic 3 had tons of atmosphere, far more then any SNES platformer.

They are different genres, but Angel Island getting set on fire adds alot of atmosphere to the game. It has alot of cool set prices that make the game stand out

You're right, the SNES has several games with great atmosphere such as A Link To The Past and Super Metroid.

But the Genesis had games like that as well.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night On Switch Had Biggest Response, Sales Were "Well Above" Expectations

Caryslan

Given most of the Metroidvania games are on Nintendo's handhelds(Only Symphony of the Night is not on a Nintendo system), I would argue there is a massive built-in fanbase for a Metroidvania style game that was developed by the same people who made the Castlevania games on the Game Boy Advance and DS.

I'm honestly not shocked that this game sold better on the Switch then on other platforms. Even looking past the Metroidvania games, Castlevania has a rich history in Nintendo platforms dating back to the NES.

Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

Caryslan

Maybe it's just me, but why does this sound like a modern version of Tengen vs Nintendo?

The setup is similar. A developer goes for years playing by the rules of a platform holder until they decide one day that they want more money and more control, and attempt to bypass the platform holder's rules.

The Platform holder responds by trying to ban them, while the company in question tries to appeal to the general public and present themselves as a David fighting a noble battle against a giant who is using their power to control the market unfairly.

Re: Street Fighter's Producer Yoshinori Ono Is Leaving Capcom After Almost 30 Years

Caryslan

@Tasuki I always felt that the Alpha games were the true sequels to the Street Fighter II series, even if they were marketed as interquels that took place between Street Fighter and Street Fighter II.

They ran on the same arcade hardware that the Street Fighter II games ran on, eventually, all the Street Fighter II characters made a comeback in the Alpha games along with fighters from Final Fight and Street Fighter I, and the gameplay felt like a proper evolution of the idea that Street Fighter II did, without coming off as weird.

Plus, the Alpha games just play much better then Street Fighter III, and there are cool things from those games that I wish would come back in modern Street Fighter games.

For me personally, I think the Street Fighter Alpha games are the best Street Fighter games ever made.

Re: Switch Software Sales Are Comfortably Beating The PS2's, The Best-Selling Console Of All Time

Caryslan

@Averagewriter I recently browsed the PS2 section on Gamestop's website, and its the most expensive PS2 game on there with its price over 100 bucks!

I am kicking myself because back during the PS2's lifespan, I remember seeing that game for 20 or 30 bucks used and kept telling myself "Ah, I'll get it someday."

Its kinda funny, but Gamestop is sold out of all their PS2 consoles, and most of the PS2 games that have listed.

Just shows you how much staying power and popularity that the console has to this day. With so many people having to stay home during the Covid stuff, maybe they decided to enjoy some retro gaming.

Glad to hear you replaced your PS2, did you get the OG model or a Slim one? Also, I can understand how it feels to have people break in and steal valuable games and systems. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Haunting Ground after seeing the price, and I hope you can get another copy of it someday!

Re: Switch Software Sales Are Comfortably Beating The PS2's, The Best-Selling Console Of All Time

Caryslan

@Averagewriter I got a refurbished PS2 Slim from Gamestop a couple of years ago, and it's amazing how well many of the games hold up, even compared to modern games.

I spent a lot of time playing my PS2 even though I have an Xbox One and PS4.

It's just a great system with a rich library of games to pick from. Plus, I picked up some component cables so I can hook it up to my HDTV, and the games look pretty good now(Although I lost the ability to play PS1 games).

People argue about which system is the greatest of all time, but my vote goes to the PS2. Without a doubt, it is the best game system ever made.

Re: Classic Nintendo Source Code And Prototypes Allegedly Leaked

Caryslan

Wow, I know Zelda 3 was planned for the NES at first, but I always thought they never got very far past the planning stages before development shifted to the SNES and A Link to the Past entered production.

But to see some proof that that version once existed is amazing.

Also, looking at these sprites, were they planning to make Zelda 3 just like Link's Adventure in terms of gameplay?

Re: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Is Reportedly Up For Sale

Caryslan

@NIN10DOXD Honestly, I am shocked Microsoft is not opening up the piggy bank and going for this. Getting Mortal Kombat as a system exclusive will help sell millions of Xbox systems, and being the exclusive home of DC video games like the Batman series and Injustice(another huge seller) will also give Microsoft a massive boon and major advantage.

1st party support is where Microsoft has stuggled in recent years, with Sony and Nintendo pretty much running circles around them in this regard.

Sony might get the new Spider-Man game, but the buzz about Microsoft getting the next Batman game exclusive to their console would set the internet on fire.

Getting Mortal Kombat as an exclusive would be an even bigger deal.

On top of which, Microsoft would gain access to Midway and Atari's other IPs and backlog of arcade games from the 80s and 90s.

Honestly, I wish Microsoft would take a bold move like this. They need something that gives them the edge over Sony and counters their line up.

Saying "We have Mortal Kombat XII and you can only play it on Xbox Series X" would turn alot of heads and sell a good number of Xbox systems.

Re: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Is Reportedly Up For Sale

Caryslan

@Garage Imagine the reaction on everyone's faces if Nintendo announced they now owned Mortal Kombat and the only place to play the next game would be the Switch or it's successor.

On top of which, they would also get rights to most of Midway and Atari's arcade games.

A root beer tapper stage in smash, or a stage based on defender. It sounds nuts, but if Nintendo opened the piggy bank here, they would walk away with tons of new stuff.

Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Has "A Ton Of Respect" For Nintendo, But Is Over Rumours About Select Titles Coming To Switch

Caryslan

@electrolite77 It also outsold the Sega Genesis and Atari 2600, both of which are considered major successes in their respective generations and classic consoles whose legacies endure to today..

It also outsold the first Xbox, which means the Xbox One is the second best selling system in the Xbox family.

As I said before, it's behind the PS4 and Switch, but its also not a total failure either. Microsoft made some bad mistakes that cost them this generation, and it looks like they are working to address some of those issues.

First party? They have been buying up new studios to make games for the Xbox Series X.

I'm not going to ignore the fact that Microsoft struggled this gen, but some of the comments on here act like the Xbox One was a massive failure that puts them in the same hot seat that Sega and Atari used to sit in.

But the irony is that Nintendo was the one who had a system that flopped so badly this generation, they pretty much had to do a reboot with the Switch in the same gen just to stay alive.

The Xbox One endured and fought all the way to the end of this gen.

So, maybe the Xbox brand is not as much as a failure as people seem to think.....

Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Has "A Ton Of Respect" For Nintendo, But Is Over Rumours About Select Titles Coming To Switch

Caryslan

@sixring The bitter irony is that the Xbox One still sold way better then the Wii U did.

Rumors have the Xbox One finishing around 50 million when this gen finally ends.

Below the PS4, but not that bad overall.

The Wii U, on the other hand, finished with 13 million units sold, and barely beat the Saturn, Dreamcast, and Master System. Nintendo fanboys will never admit it, but the Wii U's sales are in the garbage tier when it comes to game systems.

So, this arrogance that Microsoft suddenly needs Nintendo and they need to put their games on the Switch is amazing.

Reading these comments honestly blows my mind. People want Halo on the Switch. Then why don't we make it fair. Master Chief in exchange for Mario on the Xbox?

Sounds like a good deal? But the same people who want to pretend the Xbox brand is dying and that they need to port their games ASAP to the Switch would be up in arms in a Mario game ever showed up on an Xbox.

The Xbox One struggled this gen, but it's not an outright failure either. It blew the Wii U out of the water, and it sold millions of units. If the Xbox One was a failure, third-part developers would have abandoned the system long ago.

In fact, the Xbox One still gets games that don't release on the Switch.

The Xbox brand may be weaker this gen, but it's still a strong brand with a loyal fanbase. People may be shocked by how well the next Xbox does.

I own an Xbox One, and I enjoy playing it more than my PS4. I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Sixth DLC Fighter Is From ARMS

Caryslan

Alright, I want to see Takamaru from The Mysterious Murasame Castle added as a DLC fighter.

He almost got into Brawl and Smash 4, but missed the cut due to his game being Japan-only at the time.

But this is no longer an issue, and I think he would make an awesome fighter.

Also, I wanna see Muddy Mole as well!

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Director "Thrilled" By The Isabelle X Doom Slayer Artwork

Caryslan

@Mince Well, the Switch port fo Doom Eternal is coming out later than the other versions, why not add some nice Nintendo-themed Easter Eggs?

Now before someone says that having Isabelle in a game like Doom would feel out of place, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on Gamecube lets you shoot a statue of Yoshi and Mario.

So, it's not as out of place as you think and would give the Switch port a touch that you'll never get on the Xbox One, PS4, or PC versions.

Re: Rumour: Sony Could Be Raiding Konami For Castlevania, Metal Gear And Silent Hill IP

Caryslan

@SwitchForce Why would Sony censor any content? Especially violent content such as blood and gore?

Some of their own flagship franchises pretty much push that kinda stuff when it comes to content, and it's hard to believe they would censor Konami's games and yet allow stuff like Mortal Kombat 11 to be published on their systems.

The only stance I've every heard Sony take when it came to content was over nudity in games like BMX XXX or some Japanese games that have young characters in questionable scenes that might fly in Japan, but not in the West.

Besides, there have been numerous mature-rated Konami games released on Playstation platforms since the PS1, so your argument does not even make sense.

Re: Switch Is Still The Best-Selling Console Of 2020 In The US, Tops February Charts

Caryslan

Nintendo would have had most of this year to sell more Switch consoles, and create a buffer to ensure the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X don't cut too deeply into Switch sales.

Right now Nintendo pretty much has the console market to themselves. The PS4 and Xbox One are not going to do much, and most major projects are on next gen hardware.

But due to factors outside of their control, Nintendo can't take advantage of this chance due to a shortage of units and other bad factors.

What a horrible bit of timing for Nintendo when you think about it...

Re: The End Of An Era: E3 2020 Is Officially Cancelled

Caryslan

I'm not gonna lie, I was very interested in this year's E3 because it was rumored that this event was where Microsoft was gonna formally show off the Xbox Series X.

But the safety of everyone is more important then video games, and if they feel this is the best way to do it, then I support the ESA and the Video Game Companies who opted to cancel the event.

The fact is, with the internet and Youtube, its a simple matter for these companies to run Nintendo-Direct like shows the week when E3 would have happened and still reach a huge audience.

Re: Ed Boon Would "Love" To See A Mortal Kombat Character In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Caryslan

@Paraka Honestly, I never thought Mai ever had a shot in the first place, and Sakurai simply made a joke as to why she's not playable or on the KOF stage.

Because if Sakurai is serious, then it raises some serious double standards. Yeah, Mai's sexuality is played as a joke in SNK games, and for lack of a better term, her boobs bounce even in the older Fatal Fury games.

But she's mild compared to even some of the other characters or franchises in Smash Bros.

Bayonetta in her home series goes far beyond anything Mai ever has done, and she was allowed to be in Smash Bros intact.

Even Fire Emblem Heroes pretty much sells characters in swimsuits on banners and many of the female characters show alot of skin.

I'm not saying any of this is wrong, but it creates a double standard.

That's my point with Mortal Kombat. Yes, compared to Metal Gear and Bayonetta, Mortal Kombat proudly showcases blood, gore, and over the top violence as its major selling points. They have never hidden the fact that killing someone at the end of a match is the most noticeable thing that sets the series apart from its rivals.

But much like Metal Gear and Bayonetta were toned down for Smash while still keeping aspects of their franchises intact including Snake's famous "Samus just took her clothes off!" line in Brawl and Bayonetta's movements, I don't see why Mortal Kombat can't have a toned-down fighter in the game.

As I said before, Mortal Kombat fighters have been in Teen Rated games before, such as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, and DLC in Injustice 1 and 2.

They toned those characters down to fit those games. Which raises my question from earlier, if Scorpion can ben toned down to the point that he can trade blows with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman without anything being lost outside of the blood and gore, then why can't they work in Smash?

Re: Ed Boon Would "Love" To See A Mortal Kombat Character In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Caryslan

@Chibi_Manny Metal Gear and Bayonetta aren't exactly shooting for Nintendo's values either. '

This is not 1993 anymore, things have changed alot and Nintendo is no different.

Even Nintendo's own franchises like Fire Emblem push the limits even if they aren't violent gorefests, feature cursing, or sexual content.

Well, forget that for a Teen rated series Fire Emblem pushes alot of buttons when it comes to sexual content, even putting the characters in swim suits in featured banners in Heroes and using the sexuality to sell characters.

My point is, even Nintendo's own IPs push boundaries they were not willing to cross even a decade ago.

So, judging Mortal Kombat for not fitting Nintendo's values while Metal Gear and Bayonetta(which is published by Nintendo) is fine in Smash creates a double standard.

If Metal Gear and Bayonetta can be allowed to fight alongside Mario, Kirby, and Pikachu without raising a fuss, then why can't someone like Raiden or Sub-Zero who have been in games alongside Batman and Superman?

Re: Ed Boon Would "Love" To See A Mortal Kombat Character In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Caryslan

@NintendoByNature Other fighting games have fighters that cross-over from other fighting games such as Virtua Fighter characters in DOA 5, Akuma in X-Men: COTA and Tekken 7, Geese from Tekken 7, Haramarou in Soul Calibur VI.

I like the idea of fighting game cross overs, and it makes no sense to exclude characters from being in Smash just because of the genre their origin games belong to.

Re: Ed Boon Would "Love" To See A Mortal Kombat Character In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Caryslan

@JR150 I agree with you about Liu Kang, although I think Raiden and Sub-Zero are also quality picks as well, and less violent than Scorpion.

But then, I've never been a big Scorpion fan anyway. I would love to see Johnny Cage make it, alongside his infamous nut punch(ok, it would be kinda funny if they somehow put Cage hitting Mario in the family jewels, even if Nintendo would never let it happen.)

Re: Ed Boon Would "Love" To See A Mortal Kombat Character In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Caryslan

For people who say the Mortal Kombat characters can't work in Smash, they were DLC in both injustice games, and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe toned them down as well.

Those games were all Teen rated, so they can work outside of their own game franchise without the gore and over the top finishing moves.

Also, its kinda hard to argue that one M-Rated franchise should be in and others can't when Snake and Bayonetta both come from M-rated franchises themselves, people want Dante in the game who is also from an M-Rated franchise, and there are rumors that Ryu from Ninja Gaiden is being considered as a fighter.

Ryu is the one that raises the most questions since his own games starting with the reboot on the Xbox and its sequels are very gory games where he's slicing and dicing humans and he's also in a fighting game series where bouncing boobies is one of its main selling points.

My point is, someone like Raiden, Scorpion, or Sub-Zero are the most likely candidates for inclusion if MK got a rep and all three would fit the over-the top nature of Smash.

As someone who loves Mortal Kombat, I would love to see Raiden or Sub-Zero make the cut. I think they would be kinda fun.

Re: Leading Smash Bros. Player Calls Out Nintendo For "Not Putting Resources Into The Scene"

Caryslan

@retro_player_22 Capcom while not a big as Nintendo is still a large third-party with a wide array of other franchises that are in active development at any given time, Namco Bandai is also the same way.

They both support their fighting games with sponsored tournaments and even leagues and tours for Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Soul Calibur VI, and Dragon Ball Fighter Z.

Saying Nintendo can't put a bit of money into a pot and support pro Smash Players is silly. How is supporting Smash in tournaments going to hurt the rest of their business. Do you think they are going to shut down Retro Studios just to sponsor some Smash Tournaments?

All Smash Players want is the same level of support Namco Bandai, Capcom, Tecmo Koei, and Warner Brothers(or Netherealm Studios) give to their fighting games.

If they can do it, why can't Nintendo?

Hell, let's take Warner Brothers, which is part of a much larger company than Nintendo, and has their hands in a lot more cookie jars then Nintendo does. They support their fighting games with tours and sponsored tournaments.

That's all Smash Bros players are asking for.

Re: Mobile Hit Fire Emblem Heroes Introduces A New Subscription-Based Service

Caryslan

Well, I said it before and I'll say it again. Its video game karma biting us in the ass all these years later. Remember when people mocked Super Mario Run's price tag, and refused to pay for it. Remember when 10 bucks and you got everything in a game was overpriced?

Well, this is where the path leads us. A monthly pass in Fire Emblem Heroes that costs almost a much as owning everything in Super Mario Run.

Still, I'm honestly amazed. How do people have this much money to throw around on passes like this! It costs almost as much as Xbox Game Pass!

Something that gives you hundreds of games that you can play!

Its boggles my mind. Mobile Gaming is like a black hole where vaule no longer applies, and common sense when it comes to money goes out the window as people gladly pay up for expensive passes and other stuff and smile as they get more and more cash milked out of them.

Re: Rumour: The Major Switch Title This Holiday Season Could Have "Tires" In It

Caryslan

I'm saying it right now, its gonna be Mario Kart 9. Nintendo needs something big this holiday season to keep the Switch from being overshadowed by the Xbox Series X and PS5's launches.

Rumor is, Microsoft is pulling out the big guns with the Xbox Series X and making sure the next Halo is a launch game.

Mario Kart is popular, would get tons of hype, and let's face it, Switch owners are hungry for the next entry in the series.

Plus, let's face reality, Nintendo has already played most of their big cards this generation. Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Smash Bros, all those have come out already.

A Breath of the Wild Sequel will do well, but won't match the hype of Mario Kart 9.

I'm calling it right now, Mario Kart 9 is the big Nintendo game of 2019, and its coming out during the holidays to counter Sony and Microsoft.

Re: Another Mario Kart Tour Multiplayer Test Is Coming, And You're Invited

Caryslan

I played the multi-player for a bit and well, it's standard Mario Kart multiplayer, where skill is pretty much downplayed since your run can be ruined by one(or many) items hitting you at once.

So, its a fun way to kill time, but not something I would seriously play as a test of skill.

One thing I'm not a huge fan of is the fact that some characters can carry up to two or three items per course. I get that all Gacha Games tend to skew toward paying players, but many at least give some sense of fairness to each player.

Here, some characters can carry three times, and when everyone else in the lobby is playing as them, this intensifies the item issue that I talked about above. It also makes it harder for you to use your items since they generally have another one in reserve to block your shot.

Otherwise, its pretty lag free and plays well. My only issue is that the items(which can already ruin your day) seem to be even worse in this game compared to Mario Kart 7 or 8.

There were a few matches where I kept getting hit by numerous items and never had a chance to recover and get back into the race. That, and the RNG kept handing me Green Shells and Mushrooms for some reason.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Director Masahiro Sakurai Played 242 PlayStation Games Last Year

Caryslan

I would not be shocked if Sakurai has a room in the back of Sora with all kinds of Game Systems hooked up, and he spends most of his day in this room playing various games for "research" for Smash Bros.

I could kinda picture him sitting in this room playing Three Houses so he can properly "research" Byleth. Or playing Dragon Quest XI on the PS4(along with the other DQ games) to ensure he gets the hero right.

Its kinda easy to play games and even beat them, given he can simply combine playing other games with his work for Smash Bros.

To be honest, I would not be shocked if part of his job is playing a lot of Nintendo and other games to see if a new character would work as a fighter in Smash, and then to ensure he gets as much right about the character as he can, such as their animations, moves, abilites, that kinda thing. Or ensure the stages match up to the worlds found in the games themselves.

Given the nature of Smash, you kinda need to do some research on the source material like the games, to ensure you get everything right.

Re: Feature: So, Who's Next For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Caryslan

Oh come on Nintendolife, you mention Wrestler from Rhythim Heaven, but ignore StarMan from Pro Wrestling?

I was playing that game the other day, and I thought somebody from that game would be perfect as the newest retro fighter. They are all wrestlers, so we could have a fighter based more on grappling, and it's an old NES game, so it fits as a retro-themed fighter.

They could even bring in the arena from Pro Wrestling as a new stage.

Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

Caryslan

@TDRsuperstar2 To be fair, Fire Emblem is very popular right now, with Fire Emblem Heroes being one of the top-grossing mobile games, and Nintendo's most successful mobile game to date.

Plus, every Fire Emblem game since Awakening has been successful, selling over a million copies or more each.

So, while I can understand how people might be upset Fire Emblem is getting another rep(that puts them ahead of Mario and Pokemon), Fire Emblem is one of their cash cows right now, and Fire Emblem characters have always been popular fighters in Smash.
