@Nintendoer Or maybe they are dropping the Virtual Console branding given they are supposed to be adding new features to many of the older games(like online play for NES games)
I think they are starting with Arcade games because they have never done direct ports of their arcade games. Punch-Out is different from its NES counterpart, Mario Bros like most early 80's arcade games has stuff cut out from the NES port, and the VS games are in many cases very different from the NES counterparts. VS. Super Mario Bros for example has levels that are not in Super Mario Bros or the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2.
I'm sure we will get NES and SNES next, followed by Nintendo's later systems.
@Nintendoer I want the arcade version of Mario Bros and Punch Out. I get that this is not the Gamecube like everyone wanted, but what is wrong with these games?
They are new games that have never been ported before. Would you prefer the standard NES and SNES rehashes we always get?
"Historically Low Sales of Retro Consoles from other makers."
Somehow, I don't buy this argument. Atgames would not keep making Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis retro consoles if they did not enjoy decent sales and stores would not keep stocking them.
You don't keep making products year after year and sell them if there is no audience.
The reason why the NES Classic gained so much attention and the system flew off shelves was for two major reasons.
1. The NES Classic was the first official re-release of NES games on a dedicated platform that was not part of a Virtual Console or other stuff like the Classic NES Series on the GBA. In other words, if you wanted to play NES games again and never owned a Wii, Wii U, 3DS, or GBA this was the only ticket outside of emulation on a computer.
2. The NES Classic was a cut above anything Atgames had been doing.
The other problem with Reggie's Argument is that it makes no sense. If Nintendo judged the number of NES Minis based on sales data of what Atgames was doing, then they made a serious mistake.
The Atari 2600 Flashback console was on its 7th version last year, while the Sega Genesis has been produced in some form since 2008.
On top of which, there have been numerous collections released over the years of both Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis games.
The point is, fans of games on those consoles all have various ways to play the games for those systems.
What made the NES Mini stand out was the fact that Nintendo was making a retro console of their own with games that you either had to own an old NES to play or have bought over the years on Virtual Console.
The real kicker in all of this was that Nintendo's brief presence in the Retro Game Market with the NES Mini scared Atgames and forced them to get off their duff and revamp their hardware for the 2017 editions as well as going out and getting more third-parties onboard.
Nintendo could have been the market leader with the NES Mini and now the SNES Classic Mini. Which boggles the mind as to why both can't be on store shelves this holiday season.
Nintendo is already facing shortages of Switch consoles this holiday season, and the SNES Classic Mini is likely going to be sold out. Why not put out some more NES Minis to fill the game? Make customers happy while Nintendo gets some sales from people who did not get one the first-time?
Because at this point, the aging 3DS is going to be the one holding down Nintendo's fort during the Holiday Season.
The fact is, Reggie is spinning the truth. If they underestimated demand of the NES Mini, then why not keep making them?
I love Nintendo, but they were very short-sighted on this. And they still won't learn a damn thing. Next year when they announce a Nintendo 64 or Game Boy Mini and get the scalpers salivating, they still won't amp up production of the NES or SNES Mini.
Nintendo for some reason I can't fathom has decided to leave millions of dollars out of their hands and turn away customers who would want an NES or SNES mini
Mario is the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom who has saved its Princess, its kings, and its people many times over, so I doubt he would be a plumber anymore.
I always assumed that Mario and Luigi's needs were handled by the Government of the Mushroom Kingdom as a reward for all their hard work stoping Bowser time and time again. Being close friends with the Princess also has its benefits as well.
Plus, he does work as a Doctor as well when he's not fighting Bowser, so I assume he gets paid well at that job.
One other thing to note is that Mario pretty much finds hundreds of coins lying around on every adventure he goes on, and unlike say Link in Zelda or Marth, Roy, or Ike, he is not required to spend his coins to buy equipment, weapons, or other items(barring the RPGs), so all the coins that he finds, he keeps.
Which given how common coins are in an average Mario game, we are talking hundreds if not thousands of coins that Mario finds per game.
Between those three things, Mario does not need to work a real job like Plumbing ever again.
So yes, Sony at one point was a share holder in Square Soft which transfered to Square Enix after Square and Enix merged. But as this article states, Sony sold off their shares back in 2014 to a firm called SMBC Nikko Securities.
And if some reason my link does not work, just google "does Sony own shares of Square Enix" and you should get the same results I did. I linked to the IGN link, but there are others.
@Yasaal Will people stop spouting off about loyalty? Third-Party Developers have every right to put their games on whatever platform they want to.
Sometimes, that means you don't get the games that you want on the platform of your choice.
Street Fighter IV and King of Fighters were both on the 360 last gen, and yet the Xbox One missed out on Street Fighter V and King of Fighters XIV.
Am I bummed out about it? Yeah, but I'm not going to sit around blasting Capcom and SNK as Tratiors just because a game I wanted is not on my system of choice.
The harsh truth is that Nintendo lost alot of support last gen with the Wii U. Its going to take awhile for them to get back that level of support while trying to fight the 60 million PS4s that are already sold.
Maybe Square Enix did not see a Switch or 3DS port as worth it? None of us know, but I can say this. Third-Parties are not loyal to anyone. They go to where the money flows, and for several generations the safest bet as been Sony's systems.
I get why some people are unhappy. Truth be told, I'm bummed out that I'll never get to play Street Fighter V. But you know what, my fighting game money will go to Warner Brothers and Namco who did bring Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 to the Xbox One.
Rather than focusing on one game that the Switch is not getting, why not look at the stuff Square Enix is putting out on it?
I loved my SNES and I still think it remains Nintendo's best home console.
But I am a Sega fanboy at heart, and the Genesis was the system that made me fall in love with Sega. So many great games on the system, including the Sonic games, the Street of Rage games, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Quackshots, Castle of Illusion, Phantasy Star II, III, and IV, Shining Force, the Mortal Kombat games(which I felt played better on Genesis), Bonanza Brothers, the Golden Axe games, Kid Chameleon, Splatterhouse 2,X-Men, X-Men 2: Clone Wars, Spiderman vs the Kingpin, the list goes on.
That, and at the risk of starting a fanboy war, I'll just say it. The Six-button Genesis Controller is better than the SNES controller, especially with fighting games
I have my issues with Capcom, but before everyone flies off the handle and damns Capcom to the pits of hell, keep something in mind. 3DS code only means that at one point, the game may have been planned for that platform. It could also mean it was copied from the first Legacy Collection and means nothing for the second one. Many games(even Nintendo ones) will often copy code and data between games, especially if two games share a common engine.
One other thing to consider is that maybe Capcom ran into emulation issues with one or more of the games. Maybe Mega Man 7 or 8 run like crap on the basic 3DS models, and Capcom did not want to put out a game a sizable audience of 3DS owners could not enjoy properly? After all, we don't have SNES VC games on the basic 3DS models, and Mega Man 7 has seen emulation issues in previous collections.
As for no Switch version, maybe the game was too far into production for a Switch Version to be ready. This game could have been pretty far in development before the Switch Development kits arrived.
I'm not a fan of Capcom by any stretch of the imagination, but a small bit of 3DS code does not mean Capcom wanted to screw over Nintendo and their fans. They know how popular Mega Man is on Nintendo, I doubt they would have skipped putting out a collection that would print money unless they ran into issues with the Nintendo ports.
@PlywoodStick What was funny was that Nintendo had violent games on their systems, sold a bazooka-like gun in the Super Scope, and even had blood in their games, namely Street Fighter II in the portraits of the defeated fighters.
Yes, Sega had more graphic games, but much of Sega's audience at the time were older gamers. Granted, they could have done more to keep games like Night Trap and Mortal Kombat out of the hands of kids, but it should be noted that they eventually introduced their own rating system.
From the start, Sega was made to look like the bad guy and Nintendo jumped at the chance to kick them in the nuts. To this day, I don't believe that Nintendo went to those hearings because they were concerned about graphic violence in video games. They honestly did not give a damn.
Why do I say that? Because of only a year or two later, the SNES got uncensored ports of Doom and MK2-UMK3, and Nintendo even helped put out a violent fighting game of their own(with blood) in Killer Instinct.
Nintendo went to those hearings with the intent to humiliate Sega and make them look bad to the public. Nintendo kept presenting themselves as some kind of saints, and the senators ate it up, while Sega was made to look like amoral monsters who were peddling porn and graphic violence to kids.
Did kids play Sega? Of course, they did, but the Genesis had a large audience of teenagers and even adults who played it. Nintendo twisted the truth so they could get back at Sega.
I love Nintendo and Sega(Sega more though, I'm a Sega fanboy) but the "hearings" on violence were a sham that turned into a three-ring circus of Nintendo and Sega slinging mud at each other.
The one good thing that did come out of it was the ESRB, but the hearing were brutal.
@ballistic90 I have my issues with Capcom over MvC:I, but its not all their fault when it comes to issues with the game.
Capcom has no say on if the X-Men or Fantastic Four get into the roster, that's Disney's call. And all fingers are pointing in Disney's direction that they are the ones banning characters from those two franchises from the game, at least in the base roster.
It also is the reason why the roster comes off as promoting the MCU and nothing else.
I don't really blame Capcom even for wanting to go back to the 2 on 2 format, cut out assists(which often got insanely overpowered) and try to make the game approachable to newcomers who might be overwhelmed with MVC 3's gameplay.
However, I do blame Capcom for their side of the roster since they cut out some notable characters from MVC3, did not bother to bring back Captain Commando, and have shown some of the worst PR I have ever seen.
So, both Capcom and Disney are both equally at fault for the issues MvC:I is facing.
These are good numbers, but I have to admit I'm a little worried.
Sony has already announced that DQXI is coming to the PS4 in the west, but no news on the 3DS version.
I am really hoping that Sony does not toss some money into Square Enix's face and offer to be the publisher in NA and Europe so they can keep the game from Nintendo and off the 3DS and Switch outside of Japan.
If Sony pulls that BS, then I'll miss out on Dragon Quest XI because I own an Xbox One, and I will never get a PS4.
@Anti-Matter I'm an Xbox One owner(and proud of it) and even I have to admit that I play a little game with the numbers week after week.
Its kinda of a fun little game to see what the numbers will be this week. But then again, no American system has ever seen success in Japan.
Even Atari in their glory days with the 2600 could not even make a dent over there. Japan simply wants nothing to do with American game consoles.
Which is kinda a shame because alot of Japanese developers ignore the Xbox One unless its a franchise like Final Fantasy, Tekken, or stuff like Dragon Ball games that have a large audience in the west.
But stuff like Dragon Quest XI? I'll never see that on the Xbox One. Thank goodness I have my 2DS and someday a Switch!
@MegaTen Why would Sega care? These things sell, and they are making more money off of 20 to 30 year old games and all they did was license their name, games, and the Genesis brand.
Sega's not going to do a single thing unless these systems start selling badly.
Yeah..... This just proves that the coolest trailer at Evo was the one about Geese coming to Tekken 7.
I honestly can't see myself playing this over Smash Bros.
Why would I want the fighting game with the off-brand Marth when I can play as the real deal in Smash?
Taking the Smash formula and building a game around it is not a bad idea. Numerous 2D fighters and 3D fighters took the basic gameplay of Street Fighter II and Virtua Fighter and made games with awesome twists that made their mark on the fighting game genre.
Even PSBR for all of its flaws at least tried to switch up the gameplay by making combos more of a focus, and changing the KOs from knocking people off the stage to charging a super meter. PSBR was a pretty fun game and a pretty good counterpart to Smash because it was not trying to ape Smash's gameplay. Was it as good as Smash? No, but I enjoyed it for a while after Brawl's online was shut down.
But this? It looks like the development team decided that "Well, we can't use Nintendo characters, but they can't copyright movesets and stages! Let's make a woman with a sword who fights like Marth! How about a goat man with Fox's upsmash! "
I'm stunned honestly.... Dragon Ball Fighter Z has taken the team-based fighting game that the VS series created and gave it such a kick in the pants, even the newest Marvel vs Capcom is being overshadowed.
I understand this game might not be able to do that without Nintendo characters, but they could have made an impact.
I hope this can recover, but a poor showing either way.
@Snaplocket For the record, I have no problem with Melee being played at the event. I just don't like seeing Smash 4 get shafted, especially since it is a really good game.
@sillygostly Were Mega Man 9 and 10 lazy? Was Konami lazy with their rebirth series?
People want to play classic games, and this is a good way to exploit that market.
Sega is lazy with this game, but not because they want to make a retro throwback game. They are lazy a large chunk of the game are levels from previous games.
I doubt Mega Man 9 would have been as successful had the game featured four new Robot Masters and four returning robot masters from previous games.
@Action51 If there is not a market for these kind of consoles, then why does Atgames keep putting out new Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis retro consoles year after year?
The thing is, this kind of system does not appeal just to the hardcore gamer, it also appeals to the lapsed Nintendo gamer. The gamer who does not give two flips about Nintendo's modern games or hardware, but sees this or the NES Mini and wants to buy it to play the NES and SNES games that they enjoyed years ago.
That is the appeal of systems like this. Its often the cheapest, easiest way to enjoy older games.
Not everyone wants to spend money on a Wii U or 3DS to play SNES games on the virtual console, and collecting the older games can be a long-drawn out process that involves money, time, and effort.
Earthbound even with the cart alone often costs a good amount of money to own, but you can have it, alongside other SNES games for 79 bucks! And given the age of the carts, they may not even work!
This is where I think Nintendo made a mistake. Atgames has built a successful business off of selling retro consoles, and they sell them in stores that don't stock modern systems or games like Dollar General, Walgreens, etc.
As I said before, the retro systems appeal to people who might not be into modern games, but would love to replay games they grew up with. Nintendo could have become the market leader with the NES Mini, and brought their brand into stores that don't normally stock the Wii U, 3DS, or Switch.
But Nintendo views things like a toy company, and by limiting the NES Mini, they left alot of potental customers out in the cold. People who wanted the system, but could not get their hands on it. Or worse of all, had to pay hundreds of dollars to buy the NES Mini from ebay sellers. Money that never went to Nintendo outside of the inital 59.99 dollar investment.
I'm just going to ask, why can't Nintendo sell the NES Mini and SNES Classic at the same time? Why not dominate the retro game market alongside the modern game market and their mobile games?
The NES Mini shook up the retro game market and forced Atgames to step up their efforts this year. The Atari 2600 model for this year has Activision games and the Sega Genesis model has also gotten numerous improvments as well.
Nintendo has a chance to take over this market, and it seems like they just want to take it easy. Alot of people would gladly spent money on the SNES Classic, maybe more then the NES Mini, given SNES games have aged better. But alot of money is going to be left on the table by Nintendo who will no doubt limit stock and play it safe like they always do.
And the funny thing is, the NES and SNES are two of the safest bets Nintendo could make. People grew up on the NES and SNES, and their popularity likely surpasses the Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis. But Nintendo won't see that or the value of their backlog.
@countzero There is a Final Fantasy VI in the West, but its later ports on the Playstation and Game Boy Advance that restore the proper numbering order for the games.
On the SNES, though, Final Fantasy IV will always be II and Final Fantasy VI will always be III in the west.
@Harmonie Honestly, neither Sora nor Cloud deserved to get in. If we wanted to base the Square Enix rep on ties to Nintendo hardware, then it should have been someone from Dragon Quest.
Nobody can argue that Dragon Quest has found a home on Nintendo platforms, as the remakes, IX, X, and XI prove without a doubt, alongside the countless spin-offs.
Dragon Quest should have been the Square Enix rep. But sadly, its niche status outside Japan dooms it compared to Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
And the fact is, Cloud prints money. I read that Japan wanted Cecil as the Final Fantasy rep, but Cloud was picked due to his larger, mainstream popularity.
So, where are the people who slammed Corrin and the Fire Emblem reps for stealing spots in Smash 4 from King K. Rool and Ridely, who they claimed everyone one wanted?
Because I saw King K. Rool get 10th place and Ridley not even show up. Maybe Fire Emblem got some many reps because people like the characters that come from large diverse casts?
If Atari can get it right this time, a fourth system is a wildcard that might be the first real major shakeup in the video game market since 2001 when Sega left and Microsoft came in.
The question is, can Atari do this? Their track record since the 2600 is spotty at best, and many of their franchises like Gauntlet, Marble Madness, Paperboy, Rampage, etc are in the hands of Warner Bros after Midway folded.
If Atari can put out a powerful system that's somehow cheaper then the Xbox One X or even considered next gen, they could shake up the video game market.
But they need strong third-party support, and to make some damn good first-party games as well.
Can Atari do this? Maybe, but it will be a challenge. But a fouth system could be the shot in arm the gaming market so desperatly needs.
Because quite frankly, the gaming market is pretty much Sony, Microsoft, and PC fanboys having p***ing contests over which system renders a blade of grass better while Nintendo sits in a corner doing their own thing.
This has been the market for the last 10 years.
Maybe Atari can cause a shakeup and get the big three out of the rut that they seem to be coasting by with.
I'm not trying to be a downer, but something has been bothering me since E3 started and we saw the games Nintendo was showing off.
I think the first-party line up is wonderful, packed with tons of great games. But then, it's Nintendo we are talking about. Their first-party is without match in the gaming business. But as the Wii U painfully showed us, Nintendo cannot do it all on their own.
What bothers me is the fact that we have yet another Nintendo platform that is not getting third-party games. Where was stuff like Dragon Ball Fighters Z, Monster Hunter World, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, Assassin's Creed Origins, the list goes on and on.
Your biggest third-party titles are Skyrim which is a six year old game, and Rocket League which other platforms got years ago.
People can think I'm being a hater, but the lack of third-party support is bothering me. Where are the third-party games? We had a list only a few months ago that touted all these third-parties that were supporting the Switch.
And yet, we hardly saw anything on that front. Its still early, but the landscape for third-party looks at barren as it always has since the Nintendo 64.
@NewAdvent How does one 2D Metroid game and a remake of a Famicom Fire Emblem game undermine the Switch when in 2017 alone, it is getting the following....
A brand new shiny 3D Mario game in Mario Odyssey, a sequel to a successful new IP in Splatoon 2, another new IP that Nintendo is pushing with Arms, a port of a Zelda game that takes the franchise in new directions, and a port of Mario Kart 8
That's a pretty damn good first year. I don't recall a system having a better first-year since the Dreamcast.
And in 2018, Switch owners will get a new Kirby game, a new Yoshi game and......
METROID PRIME 4!
So, Switch owners are getting a brand new Metroid game themselves.
I can understand how people may be upset that they can't play this game on the Switch, especially if they sold off their 3DS, but look at it another way.
There are millions of 3DS owners like myself who are unlikely to get a Switch this year. Why can't we have a title like Metroid that we can be proud of and look forward to?
In a year, the Switch will get Metroid Prime 4. Let the 3DS enjoy some of the limelight when it comes to Samus' Comeback.
This alongside Fire Emblem Echoes and the special editions of Pokemon Sun and Moon are treats for 3DS owners. In 2018, we'll be lucky if we even get one major title on the platform. Let us enjoy the last year of full support from Nintendo.
Because Dragon Quest VIII, Fire Emblem Echoes, Metroid: Samus Returns, and the special editions of Pokemon Sun and Moon, alongside getting Pokemon Gold and Silver on the VC is a nice way to go out.
Maybe Capcom does not want to bring this to the West unless Nintendo helps out with marketing and publishing. Square Enix did the same thing with Dragon Quest VII. They refused to bring the title to the west until Nintendo agreed to market and publish the game in the west.
My point is this, don't give up hope. Capcom could be trying to get Nintendo to take on the bulk of the marketing and publishing duties.
Look at Dragon Quest VII. It took years, and Square Enix kept saying time and time again that they had no plans to bring it out in the west, but we finally got it!
@Gamer83 But the Xbox has always done well in the west, especially the US. Why ignore it just because it does poorly in Japan?
The estimated number of Xbox Ones that have been sold is about 29 million. Its not a good idea for third-party developers to ignore those kind of numbers.
@AlexSora89 You do realize Monster Hunter debuted on the PS2, and was a major selling point of the PSP before it jumped ship, right?
Don't take this the wrong way, but you could make the argument that Sony fans got screwed over by watching a game that sold PSPs jump ship to Nintendo.
Did you feel bad when the 3DS Monster Hunter games failed to show up on the Vita?
Its the nature of the game market. As an Xbox One owner, I've had to deal with the bitter taste of watching some cool games not make it to the system, even if their prequels made it to the 360 and first Xbox.
Besides, this is not Monster Hunter 5. This is clearly a spinoff aimed at the western market. And what's the best way to target the western market? Build it one major home consoles.
Honestly, some of you are overreacting over to this news. Is everyone simply going to assume Capcom is going to walk away from the portable market that made Monster Hunter such a popular franchise?
This is not the first time Capcom has put out handheld and console versions of Monster Hunter at the same time. Did some of you forget that Monster Hunter 3 landed on the Wii at the same time as the PSP games?
Or that there have been a few Monster Hunter games on the PS3, Xbox 360, Vita, iOS, and Android at the same time as the 3DS games? Most of you likely know nothing about them because they never left Japan.
So, Capcom is not screwing over anyone. Monster Hunter 5 will arrive on the Switch at some point. Capcom is not going to walk away from the handheld market with the MH games. Not with the popularity of the franchise in Japan.
If anything, Monster Hunter World is catered more towards western games by being on PC and home consoles.
@Haywired My guess is that Sam Fisher said no to doing a Splinter Cell/Mario cross over, the Prince of Persia has been missing since 2010, the Assassins refused to work with Mario after he outshined them in terms of jumping around(rumor is that Ezio was very upset), and Rayman went missing shortly after he became a trophy in Smash 4.
So, the Rabbids were pretty much all that was left.
@Peach64 Ubisoft has always been on of Nintendo's best supporters even as other third-parties have turned their backs on them. People need to look at the Gamecube and Wii U. Even as other developers walked away, Ubisoft supported both systems until really close to the end.
The Gamecube got all four Splinter Cell games of that gen, all three Prince of Persia games, and other titles as well.
The Wii U got Assassin's Creed III and IV, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Rayman Legends, Watchdogs, and other games.
How many other third-party developers have offered that level of support, regardless of if they are Western or Japanese?
I don't get why everyone has issues with Switch ports of Wii U games. Quick and dirty ports help build up the Switch's libary and give games a second chance to find the audience they never had on the Wii U.
They also fill in gaps on the release schedule and buy time for the brand new Switch games to arrive.
@GoldenGamer88 The 3DS has Game Boy Color emulation right now, the Switch does not. I think it will arrive on the Switch at some point, just not this year.
Plus, the Switch may not get any retro games until Nintendo's paid online launches. Rather then buying retro games one by one, I would assume Nintendo's planned service only gives you access if you pay for online.
The 3DS has the Game Boy Color on its Virtual Console now, that's why its getting Gold and Silver. Plus, there are millions of 3DS owners still out there who would love getting these classics. I know I'm one of them.
@MisterKorman I think the 3DS version of the first Legacy Collection may not have sold as good on the 3DS due to one reason. Mega Man 1-6 had been on the 3DS eshop for years before the collection arrived.
Now, for PS4 and Xbox One owners, the Legacy Collection was their first chance to play the NES Mega Man games on their systems. For many 3DS owners like myself, I don't think we were lining up to double dip on a collection that had games we already owned.
When the Legacy Collection came out, I already had MM, MM2, MM3, MM5, and MM6, with only Mega Man 4 missing from my collection. All the extra bells and whistles were not worth rebuying games I already owned.
Now, I did get the Xbox One version of the Legacy Collection because it was was on sale at the time, my brother wanted to play the games, and I wanted to play them on a big TV in HD.
So, I skipped the 3DS version and got it on the Xbox One. I'm sure I'm not the only one who opted for another version or simply skipped it altogether.
@Darius_Truxton Well, I care because I'm an Xbox One owner. But Microsoft will never win Japan. At this point, even if both Sony and Nintendo vanished overnight in a void, I still don't think anyone in Japan would buy an Xbox.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Smash Bros will not kill sales of Arms even if it announced if it comes out at the end of the year. Are people really going to ignore Arms and not buy it just because Smash is announced at the end of the year?
Now, if the two games come out close together, I could see your point. But Arms comes out what, June, July? Its a summer game. If Smash Switch lands in October or November, then enough time will pass for both games to have their chance to shine.
For everyone worried the Switch won't get Monster Hunter, don't be. I think they mean titles like Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, basically all the franchises that have not been on Nintendo platforms in years outside of an odd port(Super Street Fighter IV on the 3DS) or the rare game that tests the waters(Resident Evil Revelations)
The Switch will get Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright. Those sold very well on the 3DS, and would be a natural fit on the Switch.
But if you look at Capcom's output on the 3DS, they were convinced that Nintendo fans did not want to play any of their IPs besides Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright.
Capcom will support the Switch, but if Street Fighter II fails to meet their sales exceptions, then don't expect any different output then what was on the 3DS. Still, it will be better then what the Wii U got.
@BinaryFragger I have two units(a 2013 and a 2016) model, and I've never had any issues with the emulation for the built-in games. As for games on the SD card, I have had some games not work, but its unclear if the issue is the system, or the games. Some Genesis games used hardware tricks to run.
Which model do you have and what kinda trouble do you have? I'm curious.
@techdude Looks like Warner Brothers has the rights to the Genesis ports of Mortal Kombat. I have the 2016 handheld, and they are mentioned on the box with the copyright info for the Mortal Kombat games.

Re: Mario Bros. to Kick Off 'Arcade Archives' Range on Nintendo Switch
@Nintendoer I want the arcade version of Mario Bros and Punch Out. I get that this is not the Gamecube like everyone wanted, but what is wrong with these games?
They are new games that have never been ported before. Would you prefer the standard NES and SNES rehashes we always get?
Re: Don't Pay Over The Odds For A SNES Classic Mini, Urges Reggie Fils-Aime

Re: Random: Apparently Mario Moved On From Being a Plumber "A Long Time Ago"
Re: Secret Of Mana Is Getting A 3D Remake, But Guess What Console It's Not Coming To
@AirElephant Before you lecture me about doing some research, you might want to check facts yourself.
You are correct about Sony buying a 20% stake in Square Soft back in 2001.
But in 2014, Sony sold all of its shares in Square Enix, which means they no longer own any shares in the company.
Here is the link if you want to read it.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04/16/sony-to-sell-its-shares-in-square-enix
So yes, Sony at one point was a share holder in Square Soft which transfered to Square Enix after Square and Enix merged. But as this article states, Sony sold off their shares back in 2014 to a firm called SMBC Nikko Securities.
And if some reason my link does not work, just google "does Sony own shares of Square Enix" and you should get the same results I did. I linked to the IGN link, but there are others.
Re: Secret Of Mana Is Getting A 3D Remake, But Guess What Console It's Not Coming To
@AirElephant Do you care to post any proof of this or are you just making stuff up?
Re: Secret Of Mana Is Getting A 3D Remake, But Guess What Console It's Not Coming To
@Yasaal Will people stop spouting off about loyalty?
Re: UK Media Outlet The Guardian Aims To Settle The 16-bit Console War Forever
Re: Dataminers Have Found 3DS Code in Mega Man Legacy Collection 2
Re: 25 Years Later, And Night Trap Still Isn't Going To Appear On A Nintendo Console
Re: Talking Point: Capcom, the Nintendo Switch and Gaming Business Realities
Re: Dragon Quest XI Delivers Extraordinary Sales on 3DS, as Switch Hardware Continues to Thrive
Come on Nintendo, get the rights to this game!
Re: Review: Namco Museum (Switch eShop)
This is a good collection, although I have to ask. Why can't this collection have Tekken 1-3 and other 90s arcade games like Ridge Racer?
Nobody will argue that Pac-Man and Galaga are classics, but what about the rest of your backlog?
Re: Splatoon 2 Delivers Extraordinary Launch Sales in Japan and Boosts Switch Hardware
Re: AtGames Confirms Its SEGA Genesis Clone Systems to Roll Out Ahead of SNES Mini
@MegaTen Why would Sega care? These things sell, and they are making more money off of 20 to 30 year old games and all they did was license their name, games, and the Genesis brand.
Sega's not going to do a single thing unless these systems start selling badly.
Re: Former Project M Devs Unveil Icons: Combat Arena; It Sure Looks Like Smash Bros
Re: HyperX Announces Smash Bros., ARMS And Street Fighter eSports Event
@Snaplocket For the record, I have no problem with Melee being played at the event. I just don't like seeing Smash 4 get shafted, especially since it is a really good game.
Re: HyperX Announces Smash Bros., ARMS And Street Fighter eSports Event
No Smash 4? Why the hell is that not part of the event?
Re: Netflix Renews Castlevania Series For A Second, Longer Season

Re: Sonic Mania’s Reception Will Determine the Direction of the Series
@sillygostly Were Mega Man 9 and 10 lazy? Was Konami lazy with their rebirth series?
People want to play classic games, and this is a good way to exploit that market.
Sega is lazy with this game, but not because they want to make a retro throwback game. They are lazy a large chunk of the game are levels from previous games.
I doubt Mega Man 9 would have been as successful had the game featured four new Robot Masters and four returning robot masters from previous games.
That is where Sega made a mistake.
Re: Sonic Mania’s Reception Will Determine the Direction of the Series
@CheezIt That's a valid excuse for the Switch, but there are millions of PS4 and Xbox One consoles in homes and sitting on store shelves.
I would think the Switch numbers would not make much of a impact anyway given there are more PS4, Xbox One, and PC owners currently.
Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima's Approval Rating Grows 10 Percent
@ShyGuys Well, as good as he is, he's not perfect. Star Fox Zero and Paper Mario: Sticker Star prove that.
Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo
Re: Nintendo Unveils the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom for Japan
@countzero There is a Final Fantasy VI in the West, but its later ports on the Playstation and Game Boy Advance that restore the proper numbering order for the games.
On the SNES, though, Final Fantasy IV will always be II and Final Fantasy VI will always be III in the west.
Re: Nintendo Unveils the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom for Japan
@speedracer216 How is Super Street Fighter II the lesser version when it has four brand new characters and stages, alongside other changes?
Re: Feature: The (Sadly Fictional) Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch Fighter Ballot - Results!
Re: Feature: The (Sadly Fictional) Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch Fighter Ballot - Results!
Fire Emblem Heroes alone should prove that.
Re: Random: Atari Is Working On Its First Home Console Since The Ill-Fated Jaguar
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?
Re: MercurySteam Elaborates On How It Came To Work On Metroid: Samus Returns
Re: Capcom Not Confirming Plans for Monster Hunter XX on Switch in the West 'At This Time'
Maybe Capcom does not want to bring this to the West unless Nintendo helps out with marketing and publishing.
Re: Remake of Metroid II, Metroid: Samus Returns, Announced for 3DS at E3
Shoot..... Now, I have to pick between this and Fire Emblem Echoes for my holiday game for this year......
Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch
@Gamer83 But the Xbox has always done well in the west, especially the US. Why ignore it just because it does poorly in Japan?
The estimated number of Xbox Ones that have been sold is about 29 million. Its not a good idea for third-party developers to ignore those kind of numbers.
Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch
Why is everyone blaming Sony for this? Does anyone have proof that Sony is bankrolling this game and using a contract to keep it off the Switch?
As far as I know, Street Fighter V is the only game Sony bank rolled this gen.
Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch
Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch
Re: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Unveiled by Ubisoft at E3 2017
@Haywired My guess is that Sam Fisher said no to doing a Splinter Cell/Mario cross over, the Prince of Persia has been missing since 2010, the Assassins refused to work with Mario after he outshined them in terms of jumping around(rumor is that Ezio was very upset), and Rayman went missing shortly after he became a trophy in Smash 4.
So, the Rabbids were pretty much all that was left.
Re: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Unveiled by Ubisoft at E3 2017
Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch
@Pigeon Nintendo wants the esports crowd now. Putting out three fighting games and Splatoon is a good way to do it.
Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch
I don't get why everyone has issues with Switch ports of Wii U games. Quick and dirty ports help build up the Switch's libary and give games a second chance to find the audience they never had on the Wii U.
They also fill in gaps on the release schedule and buy time for the brand new Switch games to arrive.
Re: Pokémon Gold And Silver Are Coming To The 3DS Virtual Console
@GoldenGamer88 The 3DS has Game Boy Color emulation right now, the Switch does not. I think it will arrive on the Switch at some point, just not this year.
Plus, the Switch may not get any retro games until Nintendo's paid online launches. Rather then buying retro games one by one, I would assume Nintendo's planned service only gives you access if you pay for online.
The 3DS has the Game Boy Color on its Virtual Console now, that's why its getting Gold and Silver. Plus, there are millions of 3DS owners still out there who would love getting these classics. I know I'm one of them.
Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is Announced, But is Skipping Nintendo Switch and 3DS
Oh well, I guess I'll be getting this on the Xbox One. Good thing I never bought Mega Man 9 or 10 on the 360!
Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is Announced, But is Skipping Nintendo Switch and 3DS
Re: Ultra Street Fighter II Debuts at Third in Japanese Charts as Switch Leads Hardware
@Darius_Truxton Well, I care because I'm an Xbox One owner. But Microsoft will never win Japan. At this point, even if both Sony and Nintendo vanished overnight in a void, I still don't think anyone in Japan would buy an Xbox.
Re: E3 is Coming, Which Means Anonymous Super Smash Bros. Switch 'Screenshots'
Re: Capcom's Future Output For Switch Depends On Ultra Street Fighter II Sales, States COO

Re: AtGames Is Releasing A New Sega Genesis Clone To Rival The NES Classic Mini
@BinaryFragger I have two units(a 2013 and a 2016) model, and I've never had any issues with the emulation for the built-in games. As for games on the SD card, I have had some games not work, but its unclear if the issue is the system, or the games. Some Genesis games used hardware tricks to run.
Which model do you have and what kinda trouble do you have? I'm curious.

@techdude Looks like Warner Brothers has the rights to the Genesis ports of Mortal Kombat. I have the 2016 handheld, and they are mentioned on the box with the copyright info for the Mortal Kombat games.
