Last week we reported on the news that Nintendo Labo had outsold God of War in Japan by almost 2-to-1, but sadly (and rather predictably) that hasn't been repeated in the UK.
Just as the Japanese will go absolutely crazy about anything Nintendo-related, the UK remains a Sony stronghold and unsurprisingly, Kratos' latest adventure has beaten Labo to the top spot. In fact, Labo had to settle for third place, as Ubisoft's Far Cry 5 was second.
It's not all bad news, however; as well as scooping bronze with the Variety Kit, Nintendo also had Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 5th place and Super Mario Odyssey at eight - two titles which have exceptionally good legs on them. Zelda: Breath of the Wild dropped from 9th to 13th, while South Park: The Fractured But Whole hit 19th - no doubt due to the Switch release. The second Labo kit only managed 20th place.
Here's the top twenty:
- God of War
- Far Cry 5
- Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit
- FIFA 18
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Fallout 4
- Call of Duty WW2
- Super Mario Odyssey
- PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Star Wars Battlefront II
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes II
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Destiny 2
- Prey
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Siege
- Sea of Thieves
- Rocket League: Collector's Edition
- South Park: Fractured But Whole
- Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit
Were you expecting Labo to go top in the UK, or did you think it wasn't in the cards?

Not suprised, as the UK (myself included) is cynical about paying alot of money for cardboard
With good reason. I have barely touched my Switch since God Of War came out. It is a great game.
I've never played the South Park game and got this one.
Must say, it's very funny and nice to play, had a great time so far
This is not a surprise. Cardboard gimmicks vs Actual games.
I'll be surprised if LABO holds up there for too long. By all accounts it seems like a gimmick. And I happily overpay for cardboard usually, lately in the form of Summoner Wars card game.
This week sees the release of DK: Tropical Freeze, we'll see how that works out.
You know, that could be an idea: Kong of War.
Labo is literally amazing!
I'm surprised the Switch release of South Park Fractured But Whole actually did well enough to get it back into the top 20. I am also surprised that Labo managed to get into the top 10, let alone top 20.
@cfgk24 Literally? As opposed to figuratively amazing?
People in the UK play always the SAME games.
Boring.
@FragRed on the single format chart SOUTH PARK entered at #16.
@CorvoRevo If they're playing games at all, as opposed to going to the pub.
You'd think a Switch would do well there, considering it's easier to take to the pub than a PS4.
@JSG87 That's not too bad, is that just physical or eShop sales too? Either way I hope this is good enough when taking other territory sales into account for Ubisoft to continue supporting the system.
Not at all surprised.
Well, actually a bit surprised that Labo placed as high as that. I think it's fantastic, but just not the kind of thing that most UK gamers would find attractive as a concept: made by Nintendo, made of cardboard, has an educational element.
Not cool enough or not cool in the "right" way, I suspect, for most. No. 3 is good.
@FragRed still physical. Nintendo doesn't disclose digital. It isn't even in the top 15 in digital though.
@Anti-Matter Said the guy who only plays the same "cute" E rated games.
At least there are people who play both God of War and LABO.
Given the comparative install bases of Ps4 and Switch, and the UK's reticence to buy anything that doesn't involve violence or football (preferably both combined in my book), 3rd place for Labo seems entirely respectable, I'm surprised it's that high.
My local Tesco had a Switch display including a LABO banner, but it disappeared a week before release and they've never had any available to buy. Not surprised the sales aren't higher when shops don't even stock it.
That’s not bad at all in the UK. Nintendo has never had a particularly strong marketing and sales operation here. Labo doesn’t need to sell God of War numbers in the UK to be a success.
As @NewAdvent noted - a release just before Easter half term in a bundle would have helped Labo here but I guess it had to be this week to line up with golden week in Japan.
@gcunit While it's not "proper" football, I'd gladly take it combined with violence in a Blood Bowl adaptation for the Switch
@Octane Many people use 'amazing' figuratively, as in meaning 'very good' rather than it literally amazes.
@CorvoRevo
There's actually a lot of variety in that top 20 list, including a number of Nintendo games (mostly sequels because Nintendo fans "always play the same games" as much as anyone), so I'm not sure what you mean.
Just as Labia's success was nothing surprising in the Nintendo-crazed Japan with the higher Switch install base, its lack of success in predominantly Sony UK is not a surprise either.

Raziel-chan
@JSG87 as far as I know there's no digital version
@SmaggTheSmug yeah we are all drunk thugs with bad teeth and constantly drinking tea while apologising for everything with bowler hats on.
@Mr_Pepperami You've mixed your stereotypes, it's the Canadians that apologize for everything. Brits are too arrogant for that, especially the English ;P
I was however taken aback by how much and how fast Brits drink in pubs in my short visit there and I'm a Slav.
@chardir Supermarkets seemed to have dropped Nintendo since Wii U as I never see anything to do with Switch in any of the major ones. Someone in sales at Nintendo UK is seriously not doing their job IMO.
@CorvoRevo I don't know about Far Cry (I have heard good things though) but God of War is not the same game. I'm a fan of the series and this is a very different direction, and it's incredible as a result! Not just for the series but as a video game. Very deserving of the appraise and sales.
@SmaggTheSmug Something of a stereotype no? And yes, we do like a beer...
Nintneod needs to take note of the gap between game #3 and game #20.
5 games for $70 = good
1 game for $80 = bad
Everybody keeps talking about Labo as if it's just one thing, but that's a huge difference and people should take note.
It would be like saying - Nobody likes Sony games any more b/c Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale bombed so Sony must be doomed.
There are going to be a lot more Labo sets, probably 2 or 3 more this holiday, and Ntineod needs to price them accordingly. Make several $30 kits w/ 1 toy-con. Like the gun or a birdhouse or fish tank. Or make sets of 3 for $50.
That’s because general gamers in this country are idiot and generally buy whatever big poster is on a bus.
That’s why GTA/COD/FIFA are consistently chart toppers and are not in any other country
I'm actually surprised it got that high and my jaw would drop if it managed to beat God of freaking War in the west.
It's hard to beat an exclusive that strong with an install base so huge in the west. Maybe in Japan since GoW isn't that strong over there but i wonder how it would fare over there if Nintendo launched it alongside lets say... DQ11 or Monster Hunter.
@SmaggTheSmug personally I don’t drink but I can certainly see the reasons why people do over here and the speed due to opening hours and work hours but it’s far too serious a convo for a nintendo site. Just remember there are reasons for these kind of things happening
@Samwise7 Yeah, this looked like Nintendo had paid for some premium shelf space, but having that not coincide with their latest product release is just weird.
How is it sad or bad news that Lamo was outsold by a legitimate game?
Expexted, we're quite predictable us Brits.
@Anti-Matter who’s they. Do you mean the uk. 3rd place for labo is good. Way better than expected.
How’s the charts in your country
I'm not gonna lie im sure labo is a ton of fun, but God of War is an absolute masterpiece.
@Octane I didn't meant literallility amazing. 😉
I think #3 for Labo is pretty good. Actual numbers will be interesting though. Far Cry 5 at #2 has been out for over a month & this is God of War’s second week at #1.
I also genuinely think 3rd in the charts is great for uk. I pinch myself for ANY Nintendo product in the top 5 still here, and for such an out-there concept as Labo to place 3rd is a real surprise.
I picked the variety set up from Game for my son's birthday (just need to try not to completely take over the build!) They even threw in some pens and a labo themed pencil case, so it seemed really good value! From Game!
@rjejr You want to pay $30 for a cardboard bird?
@Octane Not a bird, a bird house, there's a difference.
@SmaggTheSmug
Thanks for the comments on the Uk, you should hear what we feel about your country, un-printable.
Wow, guess it really IS Monday...
Not surprising on Labo - "meh" from the start. Thought Switch South park would do better than #14. Already at 82 Metacritic - maybe after a price cut.
GOW reaaaaally deserves to be #1. I actually did a fist pump last night (cant remember last time I did that) after beating a side boss (she trashed me like 15 times)... even random side stuff is amazing
Without numbers I can’t really comment. I mean Labo could have sold okay but just not as good as GoW or FC5. On the other hand, all three of them could have sold poorly. We can only guess without numbers. Still, it did do better than i expected. I find the Uk one or the toughest nuts for Nintendo to crack because of an almost stigma by what i dub “mainstream gamers” towards anything that isn’t realistic looking or is something geared towards adults. I sometimes feel there is a mentality amongst younger gamers that they have to “proove themselves” by doing only adult stuff or to “grow up” (in one of the most misused ways the phrase can be used) as spon as possible.
@FX102A while I can see where you are coming from to a certain extent if you look at the top ten mario Kart 8, super mario odyssey and Zelda(although not this week) have been in the top ten or top 5 for months on end. I think people just want good games. What else on the switch should be flying high in the charts?? Which titles? I can’t think of many or any. The Labo thing is subjective. Either you like that kind of thing or you don’t. Number 3 is pretty good for the variety kit. The robot kit is too expensive for what it is and that’s why it’s not selling half as well
@FX102A
Sometimes... i don't like to be adult.
Like , being adult = being Evil.
Looking at my friends when i was Teen, i was so unhappy & disgust to see Teenager Stereotypes (Dating in early age, Troublemaker, Ghetto Slang, Making a Bad Group, etc).
Teenagers don't need a Proove at all.
They just need a supervision, care and love from adults & their parents.
Personally I think that list is quite an eclectic mix... there’s a little bit of a good many game genres there spanning the age brackets too. All of which says to me that the UK have quite a variety of players and that they clearly are catered for....
UK folks showing terrible taste as usual..no surprise here.
@manu0
Yeah, Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Labo, all in the top 20. Plus a game with a 94% Metascore at number one. Terrible taste...
I wish we could see the charts for other countries here. Apparently they're all perfect every week!
I’m gonna say that we should stop posting the charts from the uk on here as people are constantly showing bigotry to the UK which seems reserved for us alone. No one says a peep about the NPD results or the Japanese charts as really who cares they are just games but the UK gets abuse. Honestly kind of sick of it
To be fair, I didn’t expect either kit to crack the top 20 in the Uk, so better than I thought.
@Mr_Pepperami If it makes you feel any better, it tells you more about the people making those comments than about the UK as a country.
@Mr_Pepperami look at our charts. All these quality games.
I can honestly say we are a disgrace. All of us in the uk
@Octane I agree. I think it’s sad. It’s a game chart and from what I can see quite a positive one for Nintendo especially after the wilderness years of the last few. I don’t understand why people are saying we are always in pubs and violent etc it’s ridiculous. It’s a GAME chart and I would never make sweeping judgement of people at all let alone by their taste in games.
@KingSandyRavage So, people who like Fifa, COD, and GTA are idiots who only like games because they blindly buy whatever banner they can?
Or maybe those three games, as well as stuff like God of War 2018 and Far Cry 5, are good games that deserve their place on the charts.
God of war is a great game well deserved!
Unfortunately as usual comments have devolved with the usual suspects judging and condemning people for have different tastes. Perhaps you guys should turn off the comments on sales chart articles as this happens every single time.
@redd214 Then how are they going to generate clicks and views?
God of War definitely deserves it. I'm surprised even that many people bought a pack of overpriced gimmicky cardboard.
@dew12333 Don't worry, I know exactly what you think. At least you guys don't have to live here
@KirbyTheVampire You know that the cardboard only totals to about $30 of the total package if bought individually, and the rest of the package includes this thing called a game card, Minigames, instructional videos, educational suite and a full programming studio, that in terms of R&D, card printing, testing and more, more than makes up the remainder of the cost of buying the Variety Kit?
@YummyHappyPills Probably true, but I'm just saying that for what you get, it's pretty darn pricey, especially since most of the fun seems to come from simply assembling everything, which can be done for much cheaper if you just buy some arts and crafts supplies and whatnot. Of course, I probably just think that way because I'm not a child anymore. I don't get how anyone who's not a child could want to spend 70 dollars on that, but to each his own.
@LUIGITORNADO Because some people on here worship Nintendo and every product they make here, and think anything less then first place is because other gamers have terrible tastes in games.
To them, Nintendo could put a dog turd in a case and they would claim it the greatest idea over in gaming and a masterpiece that should be #1, and if it is not, its because the mainstream gamer only likes trashy, violent games.
Without a doubt, they love the Japanese charts because Nintendo's output caters heavily to Japan's tastes in gaming, which tends to favour quirky games that are often portable.
The US charts also tend to get a pass because they are monthly and Nintendo games still tend to do good.
But the UK charts tend to get slammed even though their tastes in games tend to be in line with the US. The only real problem is that Nintendo tends to chart lower than both Japan and the US.
My problem is how insulting some of these comments tend to be. For heaven's sake, Nintendo Labo got third place on the charts! Rather than being happy about it, do we have to be insulting by mocking people who like games like God of War.
I love Nintendo, but God of War is a game I intend to get my hands on this year. Does that mean I have terrible tastes because I like Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and God of War?
Rather than being insulting, arrogant, jerks, why don't we be glad Nintendo is doing well.
Does Nintendo make classic games? Yes, but in 2018, other companies can make great games as well, and if they beat Nintendo's output, its because they deserve te sales. Even stuff like Fifa and Call of Duty which are dismissed as trash are still good games at their core.
If a game charts, nine times out of ten its a damn good game that deserves to be there.
Maybe some of us can realize that and stop insulting the tastes of an entire country just because Nintendo took the bronze rather ten the Gold or Silver.
@Anti-Matter No, being adult is realizing that you're capable of evil and reigning it in. I don't know if you're religious, but Abrahamic religions are pretty much built on the idea that "an evil spirit" is trying to tempt a person to do evil all the time and a righteous man is one that is capable of being evil, but rejects it.
Adult people like entertainment with violence and evil in it because they need to "appease the inner monster" and letting out any violent tendencies in a fictional world is better than doing so in real life. Many people also use their excess energy and competitive spirit in sports. I mean, you like baseball and boxing, both of those are pretty much just rule-sets to make pretend-combat civil and not dangerous. With boxing being pretty close to actual life-and-death combat.
So for many people pretending to be Kratos or Doom Slayer for a few hours is a relief, but they would hate to meet them or worse, become them in real life. It also gives them a challenge to overcome that jolts their brains bored by day-to-day office work. I hope this lets you understand at least a little why do people like those "evil" games.
@Caryslan I'm pretty sure this site focuses on UK charts because it's UK based.
@1UP_MARIO
Ha. I know, I've even bought some of the hugely critically-acclaimed, multi-award-winning games in this awful list of dreck... I've brought shame upon myself and Great Britain! Damn my terrible taste!
@KirbyTheVampire As someone who isn't a child who spent £60 on it, the answer is simple.
It's a therapy tool for my mother, recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a programming tool for me, a programmer, and something fun for the little 7 year old.
@gortsi it is on the eshop
@Anti-Matter Maybe people don't have the money here to go out and buy a brand new game every single week and also want to finish games they have started previously.
I'm assuming Far Cry 5 and God of War are very large games that may take weeks to complete.
@Haywired that’s just pathetic and typical of all you uk gamers (that’s right, I generalised). Stop buying great games.
I've never understood the appeal of violent games. They just seem overly gratuitous to me.
@SmaggTheSmug
But i still Refuse to be an adult like that.
It still look Evil to me.
Just because we are already adult, it doesn't mean i have to try those adultery things.
I choose to refuse, against all those adult contents because i know those are Evil, Has no benefits but only accumulate the Sins, causing disturbances to other peoples.
I'm not a really Religious people, but i still believe in my Faith, Confucianism Beliefs as from my family traditions. That was shaped my heart to against all those brutal violences & evil entertainments because it completely useless to become adult that has to commit with adultery things. I was also felt disgust with my sibling (the 2nd child, i am the oldest), whenever i saw him consume beers, watching / playing sadistic games with pretty loud voices & SFX, etc, until i was thinking, why the heck i should be an adult like that ?! That was really evil and disgusting !
And i also felt cringe whenever i went inside his Playing room as his garage also, i saw tons of "Disgusting" adult pics (Not pornography or gory, just like Magic Card or Shooter, etc but still...)
I can show that being adult can be so Kawaii (Cute) and Safe for kids. No need to be Edgy or Cool with violences. I must brainwash those peoples with mindset like that because that's really wrong and disaster.
Btw, if i want to use my Energy, i can play DDR with Expert / Challenge difficulty until i got a lot of sweat or do something Appropriate. And i HATE to pretend a bad guy / evil creatures. No benefits at all. Just only matter of Sins. If we are bored, why don't we entertain ourself with something Good and Healthy, Not that Evil entertainments ?
Why should we feed our brain with such a thing like that ? Why ?? Is it hard to REFUSE such things like that ?
Sometimes, i don't understand why i live in the universe with peoples that still adore such an evil things like that. Am i living in the Wrong Universe or peoples nowadays lost their Inner kindness ? Forget to behave nice ?
@AxeltheBuizel
Don't worry. You were not the only one who concerned about that.
@1UP_MARIO
"Stop buying great games."
Well, thank you very much for the recommendation.
I started to buy some Cute NDS games even you know they are cheap / not appealing for male gamers, but who cares ?
No need those "great" games for adult.
I can depend on Good or Decent games like some NDS games i found my interest.
Believe me, the games i choose taste even better than those "great" games.
@Anti-Matter wow in your country ds games are still in the chart.
There is no surprise that FC5 and God of War came in the top 2 but Labo having 3rd and 20th place is a surprise to me. I’d like to see how it holds up next week. I’m also surprised to see Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 5th and Super Mario Odyssey in 8th and just noticed BoTW in 13th. The UK is a hard market for Nintendo but this to me is a brilliant result. It’s just a shame that people in the UK don’t give Nintendo more of a chance.
I’ve just got Rocket League and had a quick play over the weekend and can’t believe how much fun it is! Such a great game and I will need to play online at some point just to see how insane some people can play!
I would like to get Labo at some point as I know some people that will just spend hours creating and customizing their creations, I'll need to start saving up.
@1UP_MARIO
Trust me.
In my country, there are a lot of parents still bought their kids with Pirated NDS / 3DS games.
I can found them easily almost everyday at my most visited Mall.
Ironic but true.
But i still stay on my faith to play Original games & machines.
@Anti-Matter wow. But labo is number 1 in the charts there correct
@1UP_MARIO Hahahaha I love how you read through that strange rant and picked that DS games still sell well over there out of it. We both know you just have to ignore the other stuff
Actually the weird rant was to someone else. It all blends together in the end
In other news the Fisher-Price Loving Family SUV outsold the Volkswagen Touareg last week, and apples are still selling well ahead of their biggest rival, oranges.
@Caryslan nope. Not that at all.
Those franchises have had their times when they’ve produced a good game. But to consistently chart top regardless of any discernible merit. Primarily EA sports games are the best example. They are all terrible, but FIFA will be a number one seller, in the UK only because of the plethora of chat culture we have that love video Hanes where they can play Football/shooting guns/pretend to be vin diesel in need for speed 32, or whatever they are up to now.
Probably half of the Uk Chart at most times will fall into the category of “Call of FIFA Diesel” and they are relatively turd, with sometimes a nugget of “that one was OK”
@Anti-Matter Drinking beer and playing games with a lot of special effects sounds like a lot of fun actually.
Genuinely amazed Labo did that well TBH.
High quality top 10 overall. Labo has the lowest Metascore, next worst is Call of Duty and even that's 80 on XB1.
Another UK Chart thread, usual moaning about UK gamers. Time to copy and paste this epic again....
I've said it many times on here but Nintendo's problems in the UK are their own fault. For too long they treated the UK badly and they let Sega, then Sony, then MS get a foothold. As a result their products don't garner the same goodwill and nostalgia that they do in the US.
Just some examples of what I mean:-
1) NES didn't release until 1987 and was handled by a third-party (Mattel). High priced games Vs the well established home computers. Never got a foothold.
2) SNES didn't launch until 18 months after the Megadrive and was handled by a third-party (Mattel then THE Games, an arm of John Menzies). Games slow in coming, outsold by the Megadrive easily.
3) No Super Mario RPG or Earthbound.
4) Disastrous N64 launch. 18 months after PS1, with PS1 priced at £129, Nintendo launched at £249. They had to drop the price two months later and give free games away to early adopters as an apology.
5) Excitebike 64 delayed until June 2001 (14 months after US launch). Dr Mario 64 never released in Europe.
6) GameCube launched 18 months after PS2 and even later than the OG XBox and never stood a chance of catching it.
7) Finally Nintendo of Europe was doing distribution and marketing but still games were delayed. Animal Crossing was 2 years behind the US release, Mario Golf was a year, Metroid Prime missed Christmas 2002, Custom Robo never got released, Baten Kaitos Origins was never released.
8) The DS and Wii were handled much better. OK we never got Mario Super Sluggers, Excitebots or Kirby Collection but Europe wasn’t alone in being messed about when it comes to game releases in that era.
9) But then came the Wii U. In the UK retail bought into the Wii U quite heavily after the success of the Wii and got badly stung. Few retailers even carried it after a while (though Smyths and Argos made a fair bit of cash from sticking with it). After this the Switch was almost having to start again.
10) The boring stuff a lot of people don’t see has a big effect. Nintendo being (mis)handled by third-parties meant their sales people weren’t great at getting their stuff into shops and building relationships. The games being delayed reduced their attractiveness as hardcore fans were importing them rather than wait. Whereas Sony in particular were brilliant at pushing Playstation at retail from early 1995 on. They had a huge sales network and wielded it, they gave free demo pods and advertising displays, they never allowed shops to run short of their big games. Then PS1 succeeded and retailers made a lot of money off it, and they’ve continued to make money off Sony home Consoles which means any competitor has to be extremely aggressive to compete, and Nintendo simply aren’t.
11) NOE is run from Germany and doesn’t seem to grasp the significance of supermarkets in the UK when it comes to selling games. In Germany and France there are still large chains like Media Markt, Saturn and FNAC with plenty of Nintendo stock, and Nintendo UK continues to do a good job of maintaining presence in Argos/Smyths/Toys R us but so much UK games retail has shifted to the supermarkets and online and Nintendo haven’t kept up with that. It was encouraging to see a Nintendo section in my local ASDA and a Switch display at the front doors of my local Sainsburys before Christmas. Maybe they’re getting better.
All that said, Nintendo handhelds have always sold well, so ultimately the Switch could do very well. I agree with those who’ve pointed out issues with pricing. The UK market is very price competitive on games, prices drop quickly at retail but Nintendo games don’t of course. I'm not really sure there's a solution to that, but it plays a part.
@KingSandyRavage
FIFA "terrible"? How are you posting from 2006?
@SmaggTheSmug Everything we don't like nowdays must be called a gimmick? Sure.
@JSG87 it isn't available to buy from the eshop. There's no digital version
@gortsi there is a digital version I seen it just outside the top 15 yesterdsy.
3rd is still better then I thought it was going to do.
But boy, seems no one wants to play the Robot version.
Actually Labo did greatly in a market that never was strong for Nintendo. Actually it overate my expectations! Well done Ninty! Waiting for the E3!
@cloud36426 BUT BRO YOU CANT EVEN PLAY IT ON THE GO
@CorvoRevo I bet if God of War and/or Far Cry were on Switch you'd be playing both.
@gatorboi352 I honestly wouldn’t. I’ve got all formats and play all formats.
Ranked: 1-Switch 2-PS4 3-XBoxOne(of at all-worst for at ever made)
I played god of war 1 and 2. While mindless fun, they were brilliant games. By God of War III it was boring and I stopped playing around half way through and never went back to it. It was just dull. Never picked God of war up at all again after that. Wouldn’t buy the new one at all on any format. The series peaked at 2 definitely.
However, if you’ve never played any of the God of War games, this looks like the best one and probably where you should start and finish your experience of the franchise.
@electrolite77 2006? Hahaha wow, if you play FIFA today and believe you’re playing a quality title.... then..... bless you.
“FIFA is terrible” is a true statement applied to any year it has been made. It peaked with FIFA 95 and went downhill will undulations after that. It’s garbage.
@electrolite77
In the UK, the Switch will outsell all of Nintendo's home consoles barring the Wii before the 2018 holiday season even begins. Comparing the Switch to those consoles is pointless.
Gamers buy games first consoles second. Mario and Zelda will sell the SWITCH, cardboard toys won't. Labo will do OK for a while then they will fade away much like Lego Dimensions.
I agree with a previous post there is not much in the way of AAA Nintendo games to play so far this year.
@KingSandyRavage yes. I'm certain all the gamers in the UK are buying those games because they saw them advertised on the side of a bus. #logic
@Caryslan A number of the comments towards the top of in this topic are pretty condescending about labo and question the legitimacy of it as a game though even before anyone said anything negative about the other games. Are these threads supposed to have Nintendo fans act like a bunch stepford smilers who have to only say nice things about the likes of God of War while other people take cheap potshots at Nintendo's games?
If I went to a Sony site that reported the UK chart and posted "God of War is a cinematic non-game for popcorn munchers and that it's a shame real innovation like Labo isn't higher than it". Should Sony fans just be happy its at the top of the chart and by positive about Nintendo during the discussion?
@Cosats It literally is a gimmick though. The whole idea runs on the concept of the cardboard toy.
I didn't say I don't like it, but I don't expect it to last for long.
@Octane anti-matter should change his name to anti-fun
@Samwise7
My local Asda stocks Nintendo
@KingSandyRavage
FIFA peaked with 1995?
Ohhhhhh kaaaaay.
(Backs away nervously)
@westman98
I'm not saying it will sell similarly to them, I'm illustrating the reason for Nintendos historic struggles to sell Home systems in the UK for those who don't know i.e. the sheep who just give it "hurrr durrr UK gamers terrible taste".
@Ross123454321 Ah well that's good. Tesco and Sainos don't but maybe they will now they've merged with Asda haha!
Labo had 2 DAYS of sales compared to a WEEK for the others...
Labo U.K. debuted 4.27.18 ....
& the data is compiled on the 29th
Therefore, these comments make no sense & aren't accurate.
Author "Damo" (Damien) would do well to do some research & add the correct perspective!
Seriously, am I the only one who finds Labo's third spot in the friggin' UK charts nothing short of amazing as it is? XD Besides, it's not like the games still outselling it there don't offer a rich experience and tons of gameplay hours on their own. I'd say this top 3 testifies that we continue to live in quite the times to be a gamer.
3rd place in the UK for LABO sounds exceptionally high.
I expected it to be niche. I mean, even I didn't buy LABO, and I buy practically everything.
@nhSnork and it’s only been out for just about 3 days and at number 3 is a big surprise
South Park! Awesome show became an awesome game
@Razzy do you mean “Labo’s success?” Haha
@RegularGameFan
Oh, ha, we're just being silly/sarcastic. Making fun of the people here who somehow seem to think this list shows how UK gamers have bad taste, even though it's filled with top-tier critically-acclaimed games.
Most people live in small apartments in the bigger cities, so storing Labo in their apartment will take up valuable real estate whereas games like God of War or Far Cry 5 can be just the small dvd case or completely digital. I think Labo saw the most success it can hope for until the next batch. I think Labo sales will drop off the top 20 fairly quickly.
I think LABO did exceptionally well to place as high as it did, not only would LABO have been in less than a 10th of the number retail outlets as God of War (none of the supermarkets in my county stock Nintendo at all, focussing on Sony & Microsoft), but LABO is a new IP... getting people in the UK to jump on board something new is tough.
One thing I find annoying is people just concentrating on the cardboard aspect of LABO... the garage & coding tools are what really interest me, as long as people have imagination the game has staying power.
God of War, with its distinct western mythological inspirations, is obviously going to sell better in the west. And Far Cry is a well established series as well with long running fans - Labo is new and unproven.
He got this right
"You may have shaken your head in disgust at my work on Eurogamer, CNET UK, Pocket Gamer and elsewhere."

Nintendo Labo came out in the U.K. on the 27th.
Hasn't been out for a week.
Sadly not enough RESEARCH, accountability, &/or perhaps intelligence to correct the false premise here. Lots of folks piggyback sensational articles they TAKE AS FACT when they shouldn't.
The data for this list is compiled (for the week) on the 29th.
So Labo had 2 days of sales?
It's the 30th now.... And Labo hasn't even BEEN OUT for A WEEK in the U.K., so what exactly is the story here? Incompetence I wonder? People are commenting erroneously based upon the absence of facts.
@Whalehome Actually, I just like referring to it as such and it's my own official plural form. :B

@JaxonH it's not so much that it's niche as it's something nobody will be playing with months from now. Cardboard is cardboard, and the price is wrong.
@SmaggTheSmug I’m American can and when I went there and saw people drinking beer for breakfast I got sick. 😂
@Anti-Matter People might take the kiddies thing the wrong way, but I get what you mean.

Next time you delete my post at least tell me why.
Is it wrong to point out mental disorders in other forum users?
Yes the tesco charts are very funny to look at.
Thus week doom moved up to 2nd place and labo is not in the charts just a OFD in the middle of the store.
Upon visiting UK retailers it appears the same story in that most arn't really behind labo and the switch charts are stagnant with last years releases.
UK, but what about EU?
@electrolite77 FIFA 95 brought football to video gaming that was playable. It’s brogutb nothing new since then and just got more crap and cash grabby ever since.
It is an appalling game. Loved only by people who sadly worship soccer and other wimp sports and idolise chavs being paid millions irrespective that the game they just paid £50 for is in fact a steaming pile of turd.
@gatorboi352 well it certainly isn’t for the quality.
Sony’s strength has always been its marketing department cause the hardware is crap
@gatorboi352 Nope. I have better taste.
