Re: Preview: Pragmata Might Wind Up Being The Biggest Surprise Of 2026

BulkSlash

This is definitely my most wanted game at the moment after playing the demo, it was so much fun. I'm surprised there's no performance mode though, I was getting 40fps+ on Steam Deck so Switch 2 should be able to get closer to 60fps. Maybe later parts of the game are more complex and would make the frame rate too uneven?

Re: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Hopes To Share Switch 2 Update In "Very Near Future"

BulkSlash

@DennisReynolds I haven’t seen it on PS5, but I have beaten it on Steam Deck. They made an interesting and I think valid choice to always prioritise the characters, so they are always full detail even if the backgrounds are heavily cut back.

There were times I thought I must be watching something pre-rendered because the characters looked so good and then I’d see a house in the background with holes in the roof because the LOD was super aggressive to save the frame rate. 😂

So I would expect the Switch 2 to have a much better showing than the Steam Deck. The difference between Cyberpunk on Steam Deck versus the Switch 2 is pretty huge. Anyway, fingers crossed Square do a good job.

Re: Poll: What Nintendo Switch 2 Games Are You Most Excited For In 2026?

BulkSlash

Pragmata is currently the only one I’m really excited for. Loved the demo so I can’t wait to play the full thing. I’m going to get RE9 as well, but I didn’t really like the RE4 Remake compared to the original, so I’m not sure if I’ll like this one either.

A lot of the other games I already have on other platforms, so I won’t be rebuying those.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Hopes To Share Switch 2 Update In "Very Near Future"

BulkSlash

Rebirth should run fine on Switch 2. Square managed to get it running fairly well on Steam Deck, just backgrounds dialled back to basic so the characters were always full detail. The Switch 2 with DLSS should have no problem turning in a much better looking and running port.

Part 3 is probably being built with Switch 2 in mind now, so that should be a safe bet too (especially if sales are good on Switch, it will encourage Square to ensure it’s a good port).

Re: Reminder: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade 'Limited Early Purchase Edition' Offer Ends Next Week

BulkSlash

I think if they gave me an extra discount for already owning the original FFVII I might have bought this, but it's too expensive considering I already own it on PS4 Pro and PC. That said, I did like the various optional gameplay tweaks I found in the menu like faster AP and EXP gain. I don't remember that in either of the other versions I own, so either it's just for the demo or it's something extra they've added for the Switch 2 version (which does actually make it quite tempting to get).

Re: A Remake Of Resident Evil: Code Veronica Will Supposedly Be Announced This Year

BulkSlash

I love Code Veronica (specifically the DC version, I didn't really like the changes made for CV:X released later). That said, I still think it plays well today and doesn't really need a remake, I still think the same of the RE4 remake as well, I much prefer the original.

I'm not sure how much of CV's story will be able to be told without some disclaimers or being heavily changed. Will Claire still call Alfred a "cross dressing freak" for example? Will he still be trying to kill people while dressed up as his sister? Keeping those elements would probably kick off more of a furore than we saw with the alleged racism of RE5.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

BulkSlash

Personally I loved MP4, I’ve actually beaten it 4 times now. I enjoy zig-zagging across Sol Valley and smashing crystals on the way to the next zone or coming across a shrine with a puzzle to solve to get an upgrade. I think the gyro aiming and 120fps make the whole thing extremely playable and I really enjoyed re-visiting areas to collect power-ups I previously couldn’t reach.

The only thing I really don’t like about the game is the ending. I thought it was a massive disservice to Samus’ character and was just really stupid.

I suppose the main reason I liked MP4 is because I’m not much of a Metroid Prime fan, I’ve always found MP1 quite flawed. Most of the elements are great, but it takes forever to travel across the world looking for where to go next and worse still, there are rooms that lock the doors and force you to fight enemies every time you go through them. Couple that with how bullet spongey enemies are and I’ve never really enjoyed the combat or the exploration in MP1. And then after spending ages wandering around it goes and tells you where to go next. Either tell me straight away or not at all… I’m sorry but I just find MP1 tedious.

Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Does This One Thing Better Than Any Other Nintendo Game

BulkSlash

@Kazman2007 Oh yeah, I have those buttons switched via the system remap because I want to look at the map far more often than I want to summon Viola. Not being able to swap those in the options is annoying!

Generally I find the controls, especially the gyro aim, to be excellent. The one shortcoming is for some reason you can’t use gyro when swinging with the grapple beam or hooked onto a wall with it. I don’t really understand why that’s not in there.

As for the rest of the game, I actually love zigzagging across the desert smashing through green crystals as I come across them or solving a shrine puzzle to unlock an upgrade. In fact I’m actually on my fourth replay of the game now… 😳 I did find the NPCs a bit annoying, but overall I quite liked them, especially fangirl Armstrong. My only real criticism is the rubbish ending…

I do wish Nintendo would improve their system level control remapping, that way games wouldn’t need to offer customisation themselves. Just changing the system from having four generic slots to a slot or two per game would be a big step in the right direction. One of the reasons I still play more on the Steam Deck is because the control customisations are so deep you can do practically anything with them (including adding gyro to games that don’t have it).

Re: Cronos: The New Dawn Is Getting An Easy Difficulty Setting In Early 2026

BulkSlash

This is a good decision. While I did manage to beat it, the early part of the game where you have little ammo and weak weapons was the hardest part.

While their solution works, I personally don’t think they needed to give the player more health or nerf the enemies, I think they just needed to increase the amount of ammo you get from crafting/pick ups and add maybe 2 extra inventory slots from the start.

The funny thing is, I played New Game+ and absolutely walked all over the game with my fully powered up weapons and suit, which just goes to show the game isn’t hard per se, it’s just how underpowered you are at the start that makes it so hard.

Re: Video: Pragmata Hands-On Impressions Shared By Capcom

BulkSlash

Loved the demo, I replayed it several times. I just hope they didn’t release it too soon, I’ve had cases like this before where I’m totally ready to buy the game after beating the demo, but by the time it actually launches my enthusiasm has cooled off.

Re: Fans Uncover Unused Dialogue From Metroid Prime 4

BulkSlash

The NPCs did grow on me (to the point that I hate the ending and feel it ruins the game), but chances are I would never have heard this extra dialogue anyway as I tended to go through the base room so quickly that they never managed to finish any dialogue they’d started! 😅

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Mega Man 6

BulkSlash

A huge improvement on earlier US releases (especially the one where MegaOldMan looks like he’s messed his pants) but the Japanese version is still the clear winner. The US one reminds me a bit of the art style of those old Garbage Pail Kids cards!

Re: Community: It's Time To Rate Your Switch 1 & 2 Games Of The Year

BulkSlash

Funnily enough I think Cronos The New Dawn is my GOTY, I’ve replayed it twice and I’ve found myself thinking about the story a lot.

I liked DK Bananza a lot, but I just haven’t felt the need to replay it endlessly like I did with Odyssey. Mario Kart World just isn’t fast enough for me, I’ll give it another chance if they ever add 200cc.

Re: Turok And Turok 2 Have Been Updated, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

BulkSlash

I like the "option to toggle respawning enemies off" feature, it is quite annoying to clear an area and suddenly find enemies have come back again as it makes exploration more difficult.

I'm not happy about the "Removed Acclaim intro cutscene" though. The letters dropping into place with colourful explosive particles is quite iconic to starting the game up and it was a pretty effect too. It's a bit like watching a Star Wars film without the 20th Century Fox fanfare.

Re: Review: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (Switch 2) - A Serviceable Port Of One Of Lara's Very Best

BulkSlash

Sounds like they've reversed the gyro activation trigger, it should come on when the menus are closed and switch off when the menu is open! 😅 Should be an easy fix for them.

I love this game, and at this price it's pretty much a no-brainer for me. Borrowing elements from the TV show Lost and the film The Descent just worked so well. It's such a shame the two sequels somehow lost what made this one special.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Firework Sequence In A Video Game?

BulkSlash

I remember being so impressed with the fireworks at the end of Super Mario World, but then not long after both Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts and Legend of Mystical Ninja did them even better! 😅

Also, special mention to the final track of Ridge Racer Type 4 where the fireworks go off on the final lap just as the new millennium begins.

I do like the choice of the FFVII fireworks though, that scene had a lot of importance to the characters so that might be the best one.

Re: Reminder: Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws Demo For Switch 2 Is Now Available

BulkSlash

I had a quick wander around in the demo, the key thing I was excited to try was 21:9 mode as I have an ultra wide, but the image isn't 21:9 squashed into 16:9 which I could then stretch to fit on my monitor, instead its a letterboxed 21:9 and sadly my monitor can't zoom to fit. 😢 Oh well, given how many games have launched over the past three days it's probably a good thing I don't want to buy this as well.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?

BulkSlash

I play on an AV Famicom with the Hi-Def NES mod. I regret parting with my RGB modded console as I play all my old consoles (except this one!) on a CRT these days.

I don’t bother getting my original carts out though, I just use a NES PowerPak with a 72-pin to 60 adaptor. I also have the NES FourScore plugged in so I can be lazy and use auto-fire in Robocop and Super C. Finally, my dogbone controller is modded with an 8-bitdo wireless conversion.

After talking about this, I really feel like playing Mario 3 again…

Re: Hori's New Switch 2 Pad Lets You Lock The Home And Capture Buttons

BulkSlash

I’ve hit the home button so many times on my Pro controller. When I’ve been quickly moving my thumb to the Y button my thumb sometimes extends a bit over the edge of the button and catches the other button.

That said, surely the solution is to put those buttons elsewhere on the controller so they can’t be accidentally pressed rather than engineering a whole locking system.

If it could wake the console, I’d definitely be down for a clear green one.
