My friend was showing me this on Switch last night, and yeah, it definitely lacks the graphical wow factor of the other versions, it seemed perfectly playable. There are a few stutters here and there, but nothing that bad. It feels like people are making a bigger deal about it than it is. Of course the Switch version will be a technical downgrade, but the gameplay is what matters. If they can smooth it out a little with a patch, it'll be great.
Wow, forget the game, you just trashed He-Man and Thundercats int he first paragraph! That was the golden age of cartoons, sir, and they are incredible even today.
It is too bad this game isn't living up ti it's potential on switch. I might have been into it if it weren't a roguelike anyway.
@KayFiOS Yeah, I wouldn't mind paying "full price" if it included more content - either a collection of other games, bonus levels, new content. A level editor would be pretty cool for a game like this.
All I can say to those who have never played it, this is a GREAT game! It's loads of fun and one of the best on the GBA. I never liked the March of the Minis style as much (though those are good too). It would have been great to get this as a compilation - maybe they will at least add more levels.
I know that GX and AX are the same game, but nothing beat finding that full, sit-down, motion AX cab. That ws a rush to play! They never had it near me, but I played it on the road a few times. I played a ton of GX too of course. I have all of the games except for Climax.
I really liked it! There were some remakes, but all ofr great games. Does it even matter if you haven't played it in 20 years? I'm up for giving them another whirl with modern bells and whistles. I might have liked a real showstopper, but I am very happy with what we got.
I played a little over my lunch, and I thought it was pretty fun! It feels right too. As someone who put a LOT of time into the SNES F-Zero, I know the tracks, and the shortcuts, etc. I'll be playing this a bit for sure.
Well, it's a remake, but it's a remake of an EXCELLENT game - one of the best. I preferred this style to the "March of the Minis" style, though both were fun.
I mena, I know everyone was hoping for somethign more like X/GX, but honestly it looks pretty awesome! At least they haven't forgotten the franchise completely.
I don't understand how they can change this for existing lisences and products. Going forward, sure, they can do what they want, but they are materially altering the agreement that devs signed up for. That sounds like a lawsuit to me.
I'll vote for He-Man as I think it lends itself best to the style. It can include She-Ra too, all done in 80's style. I'd be pretty up fro anything though if it's as good as Shredder's Revenge is!
@jerkob The bigger question is, why does every 2D game these days seem to be a roguelike/lite? Can't they make some actual levels? I'm just not that into them, even when everything else about the game looks cool (case in point - this one).
I'm from the school that it is a legend - that is, while there may be a cohesive history to the universe, each tale has been told so many times that the details may or may not be accurate. It's vague, purposefully so. While certain games do tie together as directly related (Zelda 1 & 2, Ocarina & Majora, etc.), mostly it's just a retelling of events.
@Manguy888A It is - it is a "Kunio-Kun" game by Technos Japan. They also developed Double Dragon. A lot of their games never came to the US, and if they did, they were given new names and published by various companies. those little stocky characters are the main indication.
@Bass_X0 So you've never seen a trailer for a gam that looked kinda lame but it turned out to be good, or even a trailer for a game that looked amazing and turned out to be junk? It happens all the time. I'm just saying it's early and the concept at least is interesting, so it's worth a wait and see.
I so glad that everyone is so sure this game is terrible based on 20 seconds of gameplay footage. I'm not saying it will be great either, but let's at least wait and see. It says it's early footage in the trailer - give 'em a chance!
Well, I love me some G.I. Joe, so I'll keep an eye on this. If it can be as good as Shredder's Revenge, that will be great. I dig the new song, but I hope they have some remakes of the classic theme too.
Drill looks awesome! I can see that being my go-to backup item. Bubble will definitely be useful in creating platforms. I am actually least excited for Elephant.
I am all over this one! That presentation was great. It really has a lot more than I expected. Badges are cool, and one that gives you a Bionic Commando style grappling vine? Yes! I know some are lamenting that it's just more 2-D Mario/New SMB - but what's wrong with that?
@RandomGamesAndStuff I almost think that Mario Kart has reached a peak, and that the next iteration will be more like "Super Smash Kart." just bring in all the Nintendo characters, themed tracks, etc. It's the logical evolution.
@Roam85 Four Swords was a BLAST with four people, but it was so equipment intense that I think a lot of people missed out on it or just tried to play it single player. I had the Cube and several cables, and most of my friends had their own GBAs, so we had fun with that and Crystal Chronicles. It was such a great concept.
@Mrkittyhead Ages is puzzle heavy while Seasons is combat oriented. there are still some puzzles/strategy you have to use, like having to change the seasons to a certain one to pass certain areas.
@Friendly Yeah, but int he originals instead of copying hte password you could use a link cable to start the secrets game. You could also trade rings with otehr games/players using the cable. I was just curious if the two cames could "talk" on the Switch.
These games are great. I was hoping for a Link's Awakening style remake with some QOL improvements, though this is nice too. Does anyone know if you have to link using a password, or can you link automatically as if you were using the link cable method?
F-Zero probably deserves it the most and would be the most successful too. I wouldn't say no to Custom Robo though. Kid Icarus really needs to have the 3DS game ported or a new game in that style.
@Baker1000 Yeah, I've never ehard that interpreteation. PTSD sure. That said, I also defend Other M - it's a little clunky (story wise) but there's nothing inherently so bad about it. I really liked hte gameplay for the most part!
This is a great game, but difficult, I think in part due to the controls. I get what they were going for, and it does work, but it's just a bit awkward. The game itself, the story and dialogue are just fantastic though.
@Jayenkai I love WarioWare too. I hope you have recovered will from surgery - things can change over time so maybe you can pick it back up. You didn't get Twisted over there? I love that one. That one gave us "Mona Pizza!"
I agree that animation is the highest form of art - I am a huge fan. That said, I don't thing Super Mario Bros. pushed any boundaries - it's a very safe movie, not that that's a bad thing. I also disagree that animation is being held hostage by anyone - there is a lot of good and creative work going on out there, and it's coming from all corners. Some of it isn't even my cup of tea (like I personally can't stand the purposefully choppy frame rate stuff), but it's getting made, and by the big companies too. I saw Pixar's Elemental last night - it wa great! It kinda is a "teenage rom-com" too, but it has that Pixar heart.
@Vivianeat Yeah. The only thing I didn't really like abotu Sonic 4 was it's borken-up, episodic release. I couldn't get the second part on Wii at all. It was still a decent game though.
Man, guys, give them a chance! They did pretty well with Mario and at least we know they care a lot about the Nintendo characters. I figured this was inevitable after Mario's huge success - I'll be looking forward to it.
Yeah, I don't see it as a huge cheat in a single-player game. Sometimes the grind is just brutal. I have cloned some precious items that I have, though I am so early I don't have much variety - they will at least be good for cash. It's not that different than getting a bunch of stuff from amiibos, which I also do. I have not updated yet, but it is asking me to. I figure I will at some point.

@Thomystic I don't think it will match you to everyone playing, just a group that all started the level at the same time that you did.

@Desrever Yeah, I'm not normally into online modes, but with this you are essentially playing solo, but with company. That appeals to me more really.
