I had a Super Scope. Scratch that, I have one - I just don't like to haul out the heavy old CRT to use it. There were some great games for it, including Battleclash, Metal Combat, and Tinstar. Yoshi's Safari was okay, but not as good as the previously mentioned.
Also, I don't think you should count the remakes as seperate entries in these lists unless there are significant differences.
I gotta go with the NES - there are just so many original games that spawned numerous franchises. Super Maro Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid - None of it happens without that!
I really like the Dread look personally, but it is also a bit too far from Samus Aran's signature look. I voted Other M because it is pretty slick. I also have a fondness for that original Matroid look with the tubes and such, but that's a tad far off from what Samus would become.
@CaptChaos Honestly, I think it is just set in a "timeless" fictional setting, where it just isn't analagous to the real world - think of Batman The Animated Series where everything looks like it's from the 1930's/40's but they still have computers and laser guns. They are just leaning into a certain aesthetic that is heavily associated with NYC where a lot of older buildings will have fittings/appliances like that anyway.
DO THE MARIO! Swing your arms from side-to-side Come on, it's time to go do the Mario Take one step and then again Let's do the Mario - all together now!
Okay, I didn't catch the trailer during the game and I don't often seek them out, but I gave this a click..."We're the Mario Bros. and plumbing's our game....!" Whhhaaaaat? That's so awesome! I really loved that show as a kid. It tells me that the people making this movie CARE about it, and I like that. I am super excited!
@Sarkos Yes, Twin-Stick is garbage for FPS anyway. The original game sort of avoided this by not having true aiming, but the Wii version made it even better. I suppose with lock-on it will be fine, but I was really hoping for good gyro-style aiming.
@thenikdavies Yeah, I feel the same. I wouldn't usually play this type of game, butI do love TRON and like to support it so they do more (can't wait for that ride at WDW to open!). We'll see. If the price is okay, I might give it a shot.
It's fine. It's a big game and I'm sure cost more to make. Considering inflation, etc. I don't think it's unreasonable. I do believe "case by case" basis is fine.
This is cool. I've already got the GB games loaded. The selection is sparse, but I assume they will add more. It's interesting that they have sequels without the originals on there though. How about Super Mario Land and SML3: Wario Land and WLII?
@GoshJosh Now, that's fair. I do agree that a $70 should be very polished and bug free at the least. I would absolutely factor such things into the value equation.
A lot of folks seems to say that $70 is fair for the higher-end consoles with 4K graphics, but shouln't the value of the product be measured in the game itself? We used to happily pay 50 bucks for 8-Bit games, and that was in 1980's money. That doesn't necessarily mean that I want to see Nintendo going to a $70 standard, but I don't think that they should be held to a different standard.
Honestly, I don't think they should have too many power-ups - a handful is enough. Save them for later. Actually, considering this seems to be an "origin" I don't like seeing all the latter-day stuff included. I do think the movie looks good, but I'm afriad they are cramming too much into it, like Kart and Smash elements. Hopefully it'll work out though.
@nesrocks The right Joycon has an IR camera for detecting things. The only game I know that actually used it was 1, 2, Switch where it could like detect rock. paper, scissors. or somethign like that - I never had it. Some of the Labo applications use it too (like it uses the camera to detect movement in the build). There doesn't seem to be much interest in the use beyond that though.
@Bucky So many people probably don't know that because widescreen TVs were so rare at the time. The dual-stick setup was also well ahead of it's time, though I found it less than ideal due to the difficulty reaching the face buttons. Still, Rare being on the forefront isn't surprising.
@WaffleRaptor01 I didn't claim it was a success, obviously they missed the mark with it - BUT it created the ideas that would lead to Switch. Personally, I enjoyed a lot of the games on it, as many enjoy those same games on Switch now. It also wasn't poorly made, as was suggested. It was a misfire for sure though. Considering the topic of this artcle, so was the N64!
@Vexx234 Well, right, but the GC controller is not standard (it's better!). Personally, I like Nintendo trying unique things. If they hadn't done that we wouldn't even have that standard controller layout that we have today.
Weapon degration is the absolute WORST part of BOTW. It makes no sense at all. A sword won't break if you hit someone with it 5 times. It works for a tree-branch or other makeshift weapon maybe, but it was so obtrusive and annoying. At LEAST offer a repair option.
I just get the ones I like, especailly if they are from a more obscure brand that doesn't get a lot of collectible merchandise. I will buy Metroid related ones as that's my favorite. I do not feel like I have to have them all though. Sometimes I will see one for cehap somewhere and might go for it if I don't already have it.
Interesting. I also like that Miyamoto eventually got to make a Popeye game, though it would be quite different, but still really good! It worked out for the best though as Nintendo ended up owning the IP for their biggest hit. Had it been under license, things can change.
No reason they can't make a hybrid console AND something else. Who knows what nintendo will come out with. I would bet they may be eying somethign in the VR realm, either as an add-on or a standalone unit.
The thing about Three Houses is that there are several potential different stories. I played Golden Deer and felt that was very good, but I am familiar with the other stories, and they don't seem as strong.
I alos chose Golden Wildfire in Three Hopes, but I felt the story was not nearly as good, with Claude doing some very questionable things.
@Shiro28 You're right - it wasn't the "real world" at all, but it was heavily based on Super Mario Bros. 2 with the Pyramids, etc. It was definitely "The Mushroom Kingdom" though as shown in the opening of them getting sucked through the pipes from Brooklyn.
You know, the show was pretty crazy and off-model, but it was fun. Back then we were just excited to have it! I can actually remember watching the premiere week of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and then on Friday, bang, Zelda! I was shocked. Keep in mind that there was no Internet - I didn't know anything about it. It was exciting being a kid back then!
Also, there were actually comics that followed this show somewhat, but they were a little more serious. NOT actually serious mind you, but deeper than the cartoon. It got a little into how the Tirforce of Power will corrupt the user, and even started to get into Zelda II territory with the Triforce of Courage. They're not terrible if you ever want to check them out.
I would like to hav eplayed Sparks of Hope, but I have the first one and, while I thought it was good, I just...didn't really play it much. I have a backlog anyway....
Really, the Game Boy belongs with the SNES generation - GB was out in '89 and SNES was 1990 in Japan. VB was '95 and N64 was '96, so really, they belong together too (with GBC).
A buddy of mine just gave me this for Christmas, so the updates are just in time! I'm playing thorugh the NES TMNT first - and man, does rewind come in handy!
It's MM2 for me - one of the all-time greats! Generally though, MM games are solid. I have found myself frustrated finally playing the Zero collection - what is with those games being so hard and obtuse? They have such a good reputation too.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Switch Online Console Do You Play The Most?
It's been GameBoy recently, but only because it's new. I have likely used the NES one the most. I don't get the Expansion Pack ones.
Re: Soapbox: As A Colour Blind Gamer, I Can Now Finally Beat Metroid Prime
Including these options is a great thing - I'm glad they're doing it. Also, I want my bananas to come like that - They're light years ahead of us!
Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Console Has The Best First-Party Games Lineup?
I gotta go with the NES - there are just so many original games that spawned numerous franchises. Super Maro Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid - None of it happens without that!
Re: Gallery: Mario Characters' Movie Vs. Game Designs - Which Do You Prefer?
@Buizel This, exactly. They all are very faithful, just a bit more detailed. I don't really see any true "difference" - at least not enough to vote.

Man, I too am waiting for the Game Card...it's tough!
Re: Feature: Rating The Best Zelda/Link Relationship In The Legend Of Zelda Games
Ehh, Link belongs with Malon or Marin or the town-girl character anyway.

Team Japan for me.

I like the wall plaque since it has the Japanese box art on it.
Re: Feature: Zelda Companions, Ranked - Who Was Link's Best Sidekick?
I like King of Red Lions personally.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy (Color) Game Ranked
Alone in the Dark isn't that great, but it is pretyt impressive that they were able to cram that into a GBC cart! Technically, it's pretty cool.

I have pre-ordered. After watching the comparison video I am very excited!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?
There wasn't like a LOT I will be getting, but the stuff that I do want is top-tier. There were some other cool reveals too though.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Wave 4 DLC Adds Yoshi's Island & Birdo This Spring
@Ryu_Niiyama I'm still trying to re-unlock everything in the Switch version.

I jst saw the price on the eShop - will Physical be the same? I think I want physical on this one, even if I have to wait.

Re: Disney Illusion Island Brings Mickey Mouse And Friends To Switch In July
As a huge Disney fan, I've definitely got my eye on this one. It's looking good!
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Wave 4 DLC Adds Yoshi's Island & Birdo This Spring
@Ryu_Niiyama I have the WiiU version, but the expansion pass made me upgrade. I did get the base game on a good sale though at least.
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Confirmed For Switch, Launching Digitally Today
This is cool. It sounds liek there will be a lot of control options. The Trilogy version with Wii controls was the best.

@Bratwurst35 Yeah, but without the Wii & Wii U we would have never gotten the Switch, which is like a marriage of both.
I don't agree that either the Wii/U were bad though either.
Re: Review: BlueRetro N64 Adapter - This Plug & Play Bluetooth Dongle Is The Perfect Match For Your NSO Pad

@Vexx234 Wel, they got it right with the superior Gamecube controller. Interestingly enough, they also practically invented the "standard" layout too!
