@Takoda Well, hey, the great thing is that there are different kinds of games in this series and genre. They are all somewhat similar, but it's cool to have some different stuff too. There's too many of them for them all to be exactly the same (though some will claim that they are - ha ha!).
@Serpenterror Man, they are the gifts that keep on giving, aren't they? With all this talk about how much content a game has, Warriors games shouldn't be letting anyone down!
@Takoda Calamity Warriors is a bit different for a musou game, which may be why I didn't like it quite as much as others. It just feels different, but if you prefer it then the others might not be as interesting to you. I liked the first FE Warriors the most and am looking forward to this one.
@Rykdrew I see your point, but one note, Cruis'n Blast for Switch was not published by Nintendo, but by GameMill Entertainment/Raw Thrills. Nintendo really had nothing to do with it other than being a partial owner of the trademark. It was also only $39.99 when it came out (in the US).
I can understand that different gamers want different things. I do think sometimes Nintendo skirts the line with light content in their games, but they are still quality games. I would have really liked to have a deep single-player mode in this one for sure.
1-2 Switch should have been pack-in software as it was essentially a tech demo. It does have some fun aspects, but was mostly a dud. A different presentation may have helped. I think it better to work some of the better concepts into a different package.
@-wc- Well, sure, but BotW wasn't exactly like any Zelda game before it either. Just because this is redefining the Sonic paradigm, isn't in itself bad. I do think an open-world Sonic COULD work, but I don't think this is the right way to implement it.
@Would_you_kindly Yeah, but have you watched the trailer? It's more than just open-world style that they are borrowing. The tinkling piano music is strikingly similar and to me is out of place in a Sonic game.
I only just watched these trailers now. I knew everyone was calling it "Breath of the Wild" for Sonic, but WOW, I didn't realize how accurate that was. It's one thing to try to make an open-world game that is similar to BOTW, but you can't just pinch the design aesthetics straight up like that. Sonic has a style that is more rock & roll than this! It's really odd.
That said, so many people are knocking the game yet they LOVE Breath of the Wild. If BotW is so great, what makes this one so bad? Other than the lack of originality of course. Persoanlly, while I totally did enjoy BotW, I do think it's way overrated.
I still like FE and the original Hyrule Warriors better than Age of Calamity. There's soemthing off about that one - maybe the character variety that is a bit lacking.
That's a cool find. I do remember seeing a Wild Gunman installation when I was very young in a long-since-gone go-kart place. It had a large screen for the projections. I didn't really know what it was at the time, but remembering it now it's the only thing it could have been.
Yeah, the Super Mario universe isn't really the kind of thing this tool can analyze. I get it's purpose and it may work well in other scenarios, but Mario characters aren't really defined by...well, anything. It's a cartoonish and farcical world with lots of non-human characters that defy categorization like that.
This game was meant to be played with motion controls, and I definitely preferred it. I tag-teamed the remake with a friend, and he was all-button all the time - no wonder he was terrible at combat! That said, some tasks were easier with button controls, like the bamboo slicing game, but overall it's motion all the way fro me! I felt that the remake did a great job of replicating the feel from the Wii.
@BulbasaurusRex Good information - thanks. That tracks well with my assessment - she didn't NEED it and she knew she would be okay - and she was. It just wasn't that big of a deal.
@AndyC_MK111 In the US it falls under "fair use" and it generally permissible if it is transformative or provides a commentary on the work itself. It is a pretty broad protection, and even if someone made something that was very off from brand messaging it would be protected unless it is directly disparaging (i.e. making false claims that are asserted to be true). I'm not 100% sure on the legal stuff, but as I mentioned, shows liek Robot Chicken do some pretty out-there and vulgar stuff with all kinds of IP and they don't need permission to do it.
@AndyC_MK111 I can see that, though at least in the US Parody law is pretty clear and parody is allowed. It's no different than what Robot Chicken does on TV. Not that I much care for such stuff, but I think creators have the right to make it. I am generally all for corproations protecting their IP as they see fit.
@AndyC_MK111 I see your point to some extend, though some of this would absolutely fall under parody (like the bomb one). I do sometimes wonder why some people spend so much time re-editing Star Wars to be more to their liking when they could be using that talent to create something they like better. Then again, fans gonna fan.
@Einherjar I suppose so, but I must say it's baffling to me. If Samus were a stone-cold assassin, I'd never have fallen in love with the Metroid series. I don't typically care for characters like that and don't like playing the bad guys, so for her to be my all-time favorite, well, it makes sense to me, but clearly not to others. I don't know what else to say.
@Einherjar But one needn't be "ruthless" to be a bounty hunter. She doesn't have to be indiscriminate - she's not an assassin! I've never seen her as someone who would take jobs for the "bad guys" or anything. She can choose which jobs to take, and even, as in the case of the baby Metroid, show compassion to the point of violating her contract. She's always been protrayed as heroic - at least since Metroid II.
The thing that people don't understand about the authorizations in Other M is that she didn't NEED the powers. Yeah, she runs through a super-hot room without her shield - and she makes it to the other side. Without the shield. Sure, it might have been easier with it on. I do understand how a shield is no danger to others as say Power Bombs would be, so yeah, it's a little silly, but it's not the big deal that people make it out to be. It couldn't be less of a blip on my radar.
@Einherjar Why is Samus seen as "ruthless" and why do so many fans want her to be? To me, it's not a great quality.
@DK-Fan I think Sakamoto knows better than most people, considering he's worked on the Metroid series since the beginning. He tries something different with the fomula, but I think he clearly knows what Metroid is.
@Ravenmaster Right, but she COULD have still used them if she NEEDED to. In fact, once Adam is incommunicado, she does just that. She was just going along to keep the peace - she knew she could always do what needed to be done if it came down to it.
@Ravenmaster See I've never understood that. She wasn't being"subservient," she was being cooperative. If she had stumbled into this Federation mission and just took over, she would come off like a jerk. She agreed to Adam's terms so that she could continue her own investigation, knowing full well that she is capable of handling anything that comes her way. It's a quiet confidence that in my opinion makes her stronger.
You know what would have been great for this game? Remember how the original classic controllers had that mechanism on the back that was theoretically to attach a Wii Remote via some clip? This would have been the perfect game to include that clip so you could play with a classic controller and still have the Wii Remote too. As far as I know, no game ever used such a device, but it was obviously considered.
@fluggy That's what I've always thought. If they had used the nunchuk, you'd always have the Wii REmote pointed at the screen, then it would just be a switch for first-person, and youd still have a stick for movement. That would have made it a little less clunky.
I still really enjoy the third-person gameplay and the story too, and I do really like the game overall.
I'll chime in too and say that I loved it. The fast-paced action is great, thouhg I can admit that the control choices could have been better (they could've used the nunchuk). As for the story, it's fine. Yeah, it's not very elegant, but it doesn't damage Samus's character as so many claim. It's just that other games barely explore her actual character, so some were taken off guard. I like that they gave her a few more layers than the average video game character.
Honestly, if they make something similar, they need to rename it and give it a new visual identity. That way it won't be associated with the poorly received original.
Iwata was a very wise man, and that is good advice. The best leaders don't surround themselves with yes-men, but with those who will offer different perspectives. Even when not followed, these perspectives are important to be considered.
I doubt it's an actual "redesign" as in entirely new looks, but just in the sense of new, hi-rez renders for the film - like their Super Smash Bros. looks. That is to be expected.
As for the musical number, I don't really want the characters to sing as in a musical, however some original songs to be played over the action would be fine. They used to do that in the Mario cartoons - sometimes using classic songs (like one with Surfin Bird that was changed to Bird-Bird-Birdo - I still remember that).
Lets not all overreact to this stuff before we even see anything about the film.
I am trying to decide if I want physical or digital. I actually already have a leg strap from Ring Fit, but it wouldn't be the worst thing to have two. I usually do buy physical except for eShop only releases and retro type stuff - small games. Then again, the file-size on Sports isn't too big and it might be nice to be able to drop in & out without changing game cards. Is it worth 10 bucks for the case and strap? Hmmm....
@Anti-Matter I can really understand that. I do like Breath of the Wild - in fact I think it's a great game, but it's not necessarily a "great Zelda game," and I have a real love/hate relationship with it. @Dman10 I don't know that I'd call the Wii version "inferior." Certainly in graphics and such, but the game was just different, but still good. For Force Unleashed it's just different, but not in a bad way.
@yuwarite You keep offering me "proof" from the article, when I am merely stating that in my opinion the character isn't incongruous. Sure, the guys at Retro may have misunderstood, but that's not relevant to my interpretation. To me, Samus has always been heroic, but also a paid bounty hunter/troubleshooter generally working for the "good guys." She is in fact tough and "badass" but also a caring person. Someone can be both, and I think Sakamoto's take on her bears that out. My point is that she doesn't have to be less tough just because she is also motherly - I know plenty of tough mothers! I think Samus is plenty intimidating, in her Zero Suit or not.
@yuwarite So, is Boba Fett eh only kind of "badass." I don't really see it as a contradiction. It's an uncommon portrayal, which to me just makes Samus a more interesting character.
@LexKitteh As a western fan I had no issues with it. I never saw Samus as a Boba Fett type, who would take on any job - more like a legally contracted bounty hunter who brought fugitives to justice. I mean, she can be "badass" too, but also moral and even motherly.
I've always seen Samus as more of a "hero for hire" - someone you could hire for missions, but not "evil" missions like assassinations and all. I prety much saw her main client as the Galactic Federation, basically a professional troubleshooter. there are probably standing bounties on a lot of Space Pirates too.
It's actually Star Wars who uses the term Bounty Hunter incorrectly, as most of them will take on any job, including assassinations, enforcing for gangsters, etc. They are really more like mercenaries than bounty hunters.
I hate the ones that seem real and actually cool, like the product mock-ups. The New Blood one is funny and only poking fun at themselves, which is cool.
@TheBigK But E3 wasn't really about news - not as the fans perceive it. It was a trade show where the industry presents their wares to the distributors and retailers that would actually be selling the product. A lot went on behind the scenes. Courting the press was a big part of it for sure, but the networking was also important.

It was a trade show where the industry presents their wares to the distributors and retailers that would actually be selling the product. A lot went on behind the scenes. Courting the press was a big part of it for sure, but the networking was also important.
