Re: "We MUST Resist Buying These Game-Key Releases", Says GamesMaster Host

BrianJL

Yeah, I dunno. I mean, I prefer physical, but at least with these they can be used with otehr systems. It's better than pure digital (or the dreaded code-in-box) in that way. I do sometimes worry about digital based games no longer being available to re-download, so I get that aspect, but with all the patches and stuff for physical games anyway, that's also an issue.

Re: Nintendo Comments On Mario Kart World's Controversial Price

BrianJL

In a way it makes sense - for while pretty much all new games had the same price - but were they all really worth the same? That said, it feels like they were selling the AAA titles at the right price, and some lesser titles were kind of high for what they were. It seems that they've gone up on the top-tier, which is not awesome.

Re: Hands On: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond On Switch 2 Is Staggering

BrianJL

@Ogbert I like Gyro aiming too, but one thing I LOVE using on my switch were those larger handles with the AA batteries in them for charging. I don't even really need the batteries, I just liked the feel. It was my go-to for any game wher eIused the split Joy Cons. I hope they make some for Switch 2!

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

BrianJL

@Mana_Knight My understanding is that the update is not free, but does not cost full price either. I don't think they have released the prices for the upgrades. This is a nice alternative, because I know when they released a lot of Wii U games on Switch, I didn't want to buy them again at full price. They got me to bite on MK8 which I was able to get on sale, though then of course bought the DLC and SM3D World where I wanted the Bowser's Fury.

Re: Has Metroid Prime 4 Taken Inspiration From Dread For Its New Suit?

BrianJL

@Hawkes142 Well, Other M is still an official game regardless of how one feels about it. Personally, I never saw the big deal and really enjoyed the game. I never got into Fed. Force, but I didn't have anyone to team up with - I hear it's better that way and just can't be a satisfying single-player experience.

Re: Has Metroid Prime 4 Taken Inspiration From Dread For Its New Suit?

BrianJL

@AussieMcBucket Yeah, basically Sakamoto said that his timeline doesn't really reference the Prime series at all, so some people thought that meant a seperate continuity, but I think officially it's all one timeline. It goes:

Metroid/Zero Mission
Prime
Prime Hunters
Prime 2: Echoes
Prime 3: Corruption
Prime: Federation Force
Metroid II/Samus Returns
Super Metroid (3)
Other M
Fusion
Dread

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct For March 2025?

BrianJL

@Truegamer79 Yeah, Gradius and Salamander only. Salamander is sometimes called Life Force, but in this new collection, Life Force is the Japan only version with altered graphics. Still, I like these games - it'll be nice to have arcade versions and Salamander III too. The could have included more though.

Re: Mega Man 2 Director Explains Why The Game Was Developed So Quickly

BrianJL

Mega Man is a good game - solid but not a stand-out. The concept was there though. Mega Man 2 took the ideas and really made them blossom - turning it into a GREAT game. It is amazing that they were able to get it done so fast - I guess everything just clicked - and it shows! It's a classic, no doubt.

Re: Random: Metroid Prime 3 Dev Left Retro Studios After "Unhealthy Relationship" With Nintendo Micromanagement

BrianJL

I mean, I get that nobody likes being micromanaged - which is usually done by people who have little understanding of what actually needs to be done, but we're talking about Nintendo here. The experts. I mean, if I'm making a game and Miyamoto pops his head in with some notes, I am for sure going to take heed! This could be others besides Miyamoto too - they know what they're taling about.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Kid Icarus (NES)

BrianJL

@Steel76 The reason for these was because a contributing factor to the US Video Game Crash in the early 1980's was Atari and other companies using very flashy box art to cover what were in fact VERY simplistic graphics. Look up Atari box art - a lot of it absolutely rules! Nintendo wanted to be very clear about what a potential buyer was getting - hence the black-box pixel art covers. They may not be 100% accurate, but they are pretty honest about what the game will look and feel like - which was incredible at the time. Once the NES had saved the gaming industry in the US, they moved away to more fanciful and less representational covers, as people knew what to expect.
