@kmtrain83 No, barely down. Switch 2 was revealed on January 16th. In that week Switch sold 47.560 units, then 45.327 units the following week with tiny declines each week since then.

@Zach777 Nintendo has been reiterating for like 2 years now that NSO and everything is going to transition to Switch 2 and that they want a smooth generational transition and retain players etc etc.

NSO on Switch 2 will have all the features that it has on Switch 1 and maybe more. Do you think that they will suddenly reset it for everyone in a few months for no reason at all? Or do you think that on Switch 2 you won't be able to play most NSO games despite paying the same price for NSO as Switch 1 only users?

How is Wii/Wii U virtual console to Switch NSO in any way a precedent for what is happening now? That makes no sense whatsoever. The Switch is not backwards compatible to any of those consoles. The Switch 2 on the other hand is. All of these games are going to he playable on Switch 2 by default. They would have to go out of their way to make separate apps for Switch 1 and 2 and remove games arbitrarily just for Switch 2 users. That is a pointless expense.

@Dee123 There were people just recently commenting here that they believe Nintendo could shut down the eshop completely at any moment. Ignoring that it's obviously carrying over to the Switch 2 same as NSO and a Switch 1 won't suddenly stop being able to access it.

@Yosher I don't think many Japanese companies got hit with layoffs. At least I haven't heard of any big ones.
Edit: well now Bandai Namco has gotten hit with big lay-offs.

@jesse_dylan You need to understand that they have over a million private shareholders. Many of them are likely of the type that have shares in various companies and like to shuffle them around to make a quick buck asap.

@robotreptile 300 USD in 2017 are 383 USD right now. Not even close to 500. I checked with an inflation calculator.

@jesse_dylan That was weeks ago and as you can see on the graph in the image in the article, shares go up and down a lot throughout every single day.

And the 72 first party million sellers wouldn't include games that Nintendo also published in some regions like Fitness Boxing 1 and 2, the Mario + Rabbids games and also for example Mario & Sonic.

13.9 trillion yen market cap is about 91 billion dollars right now.

@PtM Well 3 was Portable 3rd, which was PSP exclusive (with a later HD version on PS3). But yes, 3 Ultimate launched only on 3DS and Wii U, so 4 being 3DS exclusive shouldn't have been that shocking anymore.

@Mirastrix Only the PC version got any reviews at all. The other consoles didn't get any either. It's nothing Switch specific.

@Simone93 The Wii U had also many other problems, like looking very unappealing, launching with New super Mario Bros. U, which is very underwhelming as a launch game, having big game droughts with no Nintendo games launching for months on end.

@8bit-Man The Wii U argument is a simple fact. Idk how many people thought it was just an add on, but I have heard many people say that and it's clear why. The reveal focused only on the controller and they constantly talked about how it has a new controller. What the console itself looked like many still don't even know. Some people only found out about the existence of the Wii U after the Switch released.
With the 3DS there was confusion when the 2DS released. I had to explain to my mother that it plays the same games and isn't a different thing.

@Darkri74345 Many people back then did in fact not understand it. "But you already have a Nintendo" says the parent to their child. That was not a rarity.

@Snatcher Obviously they don't own "Mario" as a trademark, they own "Super Mario" as a trademark, that's what this was about. Not "Mario" but "Super Mario" specifically. But it gets even more specific, since they only own "Super Mario" in specific categories, supermarkets not being one of them.

That is actually a mistake by VGC. The wayback machine link they shared shows 19.5 million views on November 3rd, two weeks after the trailer was uploaded, not two days. After two days it was at 13.8 million views. The Switch 2 trailer is a good deal ahead.

One is NTDOY and the other is NTDOF. The difference is complicated, I don't quite get it, as I'm not well versed in stock exchange and all those terms are quite complicated, but one is basically four times the other.

@sanderev Shares went sharply up right before the reveal (to an all time high btw) and then went back down again right after that. It was obviously because the reveal trailer.

@Koffeeking0407 Idk where you got that 10-16$ from, but it's been over 50$ for a while, 58$ right now. They did a stock split, before which it was over 400$ and then was 40$ and then has gone up since then.
