@Toastmaster That's cool and all, but you said "oldest gaming IP alive". Doesn't matter that Donkey Kong games aren't much like the original arcade game from 1981 anymore. It's still Donkey Kong. Also DKCR HD is releasing next month.
@Toastmaster The first Microsoft Flight Simulator, licensed to Microsoft by the developer Sublogic, released in November 1982, 42 years ago. Donkey Kong released in July 1981 and Pac-Man first released in May 1980. Those two IPs are still alive and older.
@sunnyboy Take another look at it now: https://sonyinteractive.com/en/our-company/business-data-sales/
The weird part here now is that over 160 million is still as of March 31st 2012 and not later, despite over 155 million having been as of the same date.
@Xeacons You think this is an attempt to make profit? They are barely getting any money from most of these people even when successful with the lawsuit. Even when they ask for millions, someone like Garry Bowser won't be able to pay even a fraction of that.
@Axecon They didn't just confirm that NSO will continue on the next console but that Switch games in general will be playable on Switch 2, so full backwards compatibility including digitally.
That suggests that the eshop will continue. Of course they might update it with a new design or whatever.
@Dee123 Not a single Dragon Quest game came close to selling as much as Pokémon Scarlet/Violet's 8.3 million copies, Red/Green's 8.24 million copies or Gold/Silver's 7.3 million copies. Even Sword/Shield at over 6 million copies is higher than any Dragon Quest game in Japan.
The best selling Dragon Quest remake ever is Dragon Quest V on the PS2 that sold 1.71 million copies. With Pokémon on the other hand the best selling remake, Heartgold/Soulsilver sold 3.97 million copies. And the lowest selling one is Let's Go at 2.2 million copies. BD/SP sold 3.87 million, OR/AS sold 3.47 million, FR/LG sold 3.18 million. All of them significantly more than any Dragon Quest remake ever managed to reach.
Only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons have sold more than Scarlet/Violet in Japan.
@WheresWaveRace 78k seems quite high to me considering the PS4 Pro sold 65k at launch at a price of 45k yen and the PS5 Pro goes for a ridiculous 120k yen, which makes it by far the most expensive console ever in Japan.
@johnedwin Who cares. It has plenty of perfect and near perfect scores from various sites on metacritic. That on it's own does not make any specific site's scoring garbage.
@arkanjo29 Are you saying I'm spreading misinformation? Which part of what I said was factually wrong? Please tell me, because I don't know.
You clearly don't know though since you also didn't even understand that all of this is not about copyright, but about patents.
@arkanjo29 Copyright? This is about patents, not copyright. Do you not know what a patent is? They are not the same thing. Why are you making claims if you don't know what this is about?
@Glasso Palworld has not been "more successful" than Pokémon. You're arguing in bad faith, as it's blatantly obvious to everyone who just throws a quick glance at it how unoriginal it is.
Additionally you seem to clearly have forgotten Yokai Watch, which for years was actually more successful than Pokémon in Japan. Yokai Watch 2 blew Sun/Moon out of the water in sales in Japan. And yet Nintendo fully supported them and published all of Level 5's games outside of Japan.
Other Pokémon inspired games like Temtem, Digimon and Nexomon have also been successful. Just not as successful as Palworld.
Palworld is much cheaper than Pokémon games. A large number of it's sales came from China, where the pricing is even lower. That helped the game reach it's 15 million copies sold in a month. But that's still not as successful as Pokémon as Scarlet/Violet sold at a much higher price and only one platform 20.61 million copies in it's first six weeks.
@RudyC3 Dude, relax. They are just asking to label certain parts with a spoiler warning and only stream the ending when the game has been out for a month. That's not some mega unreasonable stuff that'll prevent everyone from streaming the game.
Pocket Pair is an extremely scummy company. But this lawsuit if they loose it won't affect them much at all if the sum Nintendo wants is that low.
Regardless, I find it incredibly weird that patents like that can be sued over just because they're tied to an earlier patent, despite having been filed after Palworld released. I guess it depends on what the parent patent says.
@PharoneTheGnome This is Jamboree's third week and EoW's sixth week. Not that big of a difference.
EoW is well ahead of Link's Awakening launch aligned and has a bigger digital share. It's Japanese sales are way up. WW it shipped 2.58 million in five days. That is by no means a number that would lead to them giving up on 2D Zelda. Especially not after Link's Awakening remake became the best selling 2D Zelda game ever.
Mario Party has two multi-million selling games on Switch in Japan and is at it's all time popularity peak. Jamboree is massively up over the previous two entries in it's first three weeks.
@Banjo- "A greater amount of the decreased number of total subscribers (a higher percentage) is paying for the expansion option."
Ok? So what's your point? That's still not what Nintendo or anyone said, even it is the case. It doesn't mean anything. NSO subscribers went down from 38 million last year to 34 million this year. And the number of people who chose the expansion pack went up from what it was last year.
I made this comment because the first commenter here clearly thinks that the expansion pack subscriber count went down, which it didn't.

Nah, sorry I don't understand.

@shining_nexus Nintendo's stock is at an all time high. Not just near. Reached a new all time peak twice today.
Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Party Jamboree Ends Dragon Quest III's Reign
@Anti-Matter It increased that much because of a Black Friday sale.

#2 is completely pointless because the IR sensor on one of the joy-cons can already measure your pulse just fine with pretty good accuracy.

@clianvXAi It's the 2017 model that can be hacked that easy. Afaik the 2019 model, the Lite and OLED have not been hacked yet.

Re: As Switch Closes The Gap, Sony Officially Confirms PS2 Has Sold "Over" 160 Million Units
@USA_Spartan I'm pretty sure the Switch is gonna surpass 160 million in 2026 at the latest. No need to keep selling it for that long.
Re: As Switch Closes The Gap, Sony Officially Confirms PS2 Has Sold "Over" 160 Million Units
@BlublacMH The 155 million number was as of almost a year before they stopped production of the PS2.

@Otoemetry "some tech guy on this website"??? It's playstation.com, it is officially reported by Sony.
