Clap Hanz is a studio closely linked with PlayStation, producing hugely popular titles Everybody's Golf / Hot Shots Golf across multiple generations (over the course of 20 years+). Recently it loosened up its swing and went another way, however, releasing Clap Hanz Golf on Apple Arcade. It's that title which is now on Switch as Easy Come Easy Golf; yep, brand identity with this developer can get a bit muddled.
For those that never jumped into the PlayStation games, this is a welcome chance to experience the studio's blend of easygoing visuals, cartoonish caricatures and decidedly addictive golf. It's a refined round for sure, and thanks to those smart device origins it supports multiple ways to play — you can opt for touchscreen swipe controls in portable mode, while on a controller you can utilise stick swings or the more classic three-button press. All are certainly functional, but this reviewer is a boomer that insists golf games be played with the three-tap meter, and it works nicely here.

The twist in this game is that you're building a team of golfers, comprised of some particularly quirky characters, and they take on one hole each in a 9-hole round. You start off with a small group and temporary 'mini' players, so the main objective is to jump into 'Tour' mode to upgrade your rank, unlock more characters and level up your team. It's a hefty campaign (of sorts), with the progression to unlock more courses and characters — while levelling up those you have — being very gradual; you'll need to settle in for a long haul. It has a bit of a mobile feel (like challenges that cycle each day) but isn't compromised by microtransaction design, thankfully, and the difficulty is gentle early on as you learn the game.
The team you unlock and level up can be taken into some other areas, too, such as 'World Tournament' and 'Online Matches'. World Tournament offers time-limited challenges to take on as you try to get to the top of the online leaderboard. Online Matches can either be played against randoms, or you can set up / join password-protected rooms, which is great for taking on friends.
We were able to jump into a random match nice and quickly, where one player was a veteran with a high-ranked golfer but another was only just starting out. The character levels make a big difference in performance, so there can be mismatches but it's very casual and relaxed across a few holes. You can share supportive emotes which helped make it a charming experience; if you want to take the game seriously online, you need to tackle the Tournament instead.

Pleasingly, the game is loaded with other modes too. 'Bring a Club' / 'Pass a Club' are two local multiplayer offerings that allow you to share a system and controller or to play against someone else in the room with their own copy. You can choose from all characters and courses in these modes, too, which is a nice touch considering how long it takes to unlock everything naturally through the Tour. Beyond that, there are challenge modes called 'Survival' and 'Score Attack'; these are nice wrinkles and are perfect for some pick-up-and-play. Add to that unlockables, fun variations in course conditions, along with customisation options for the many characters, and there's a lot of good content.
The gameplay is also rather good, most importantly. Courses are quite realistic in approach, so don't expect the sort of quirks you get in Mario Golf: Super Rush, but they're interesting and increasingly challenging. There are a lot of them and as you learn the mechanics and master new techniques, you'll find courses to truly put you to the test. At times some of the ball physics can be slightly quirky, but once you dial into the game it feels like a great little round of golf. There's a nice balance at play too — it can be a casual game for short and occasional bursts, or you can get stuck in and explore different techniques across the hefty Tour mode.

Performance is perhaps the only area with some negatives. It's competent, but the game's engine is clearly suited to capable Apple devices., as it struggles a little on Switch — even making the timings on swings a tiny bit laggy. We eventually adjusted to it, but you're looking at a 30fps experience with occasional dips. If you try to skip too many animations or rush through the game it can chug, too, and the game did crash on one occasion. To be clear, Easy Come Easy Golf plays just fine overall, and visually it's very decent, but it's just a smidge below the ideal level of optimisation. The sound eventually grates a little too, in truth, with the unimaginative, cheery music getting old rather fast. That said, this game is perfect for relaxed portable play with the TV or music on in the background.
Conclusion
Easy Come Easy Golf is, all taken into account, very easy to recommend for fans of golf games, and a great Nintendo debut for the Everybody's Golf series. It's enjoyable and polished golf with some fun twists while offering a huge amount of content to unlock and solid multiplayer options. Even with minor performance hitches and some iffy audio, we found ourselves having plenty of fun and kept coming back for a few extra holes. It's certainly under par, in a good way.

It looks like a Gamecube game but doesn't look bad gameplay-wise. I already have Super Rush though, so I'm not really in the market for another golf game.
@StarPoint GameCube game? It's not triple A, but it definitely does not look that old.
@Duncanballs Looks a lot like either Toadstool Tour or Wii Sports Golf to me
If this gets a physical release,I'm in.
Looks right up my alley, and with Sony washing their hands of their last Everybody's Golf soon, this should scratch that itch. Will pick it up when there is a lull in my wallet (too many games.. too little money and time).
I don’t play real golf, but love golf video games!
After Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Wii I can't play without motion controls. I'm spoiled.
@starpoint it's very everybody's golf. If anything it looks on par with the PS4 version.
People seem to like their previous game, so it's cool to see this turned out well.
@Duncanballs That is fine, I'm just not a big fan of the character art style. Looks very 90's to me.
was thrilled to see it drop out of nowhere. team aspect takes a little time to get used to, but I've been having a great time with this. it's everybody's golf on the switch, 10/10 for me.
@Burning_Spear have you played We Love Golf! on the Wii? Pretty neat experience with that Camelot essence in it!
@StarPoint that's fine and no problem in that. If you have never played an everybody's golf, they are very good. Sadly but only my opinion, I don't think the latest versions of Mario Tennis or Golf have been as good as they were on the GameCube. Shame as they were some of my favourites back then.
Better than whatever the Mario Golf game on Switch was called.
Everybody’s golf is one of the main reasons I have kept hold of my ps vita awesome game to relax with I was gonna buy this last week but wanted to wait for a review
@Burning_Spear
Yeah, I keep waiting for something that feels as good as that, but never feel like anything since had gotten it right.
Switch motion controls need a bit more upgrade.
So getting this! FORE !
I'd love to have a physical copy of Hot Shots Golf for the Nintendo Switch.
Have this on Apple Arcade and honestly it’s really good! Definitely better than Mario Golf Super Rush IMO.
@Duncanballs Absolutely agree. Super Rush was very disappointing, but it is still fun with my friends at least
Yes Hot Shots on the go it is.
@awp69 You mean Camelot (the original dev for Hot Shots Golf) sucks now and whoever replace them is better than them?
metaverse switch port looking jaw dropping
@Duncanballs lol it definitely does. To be fair thought I feel like we don't have many games that are like way far out of what they could do on gamecube. Nintendo graphical power has been pretty stuck there.
I was hoping this would get a port from apple arcade. its actually the reason I used my free subscription haha.
I noticed the loading for me anyway is long. sometimes after a course completion the screen stays black for a bit maybe 5 seconds or so sometimes. made me think my switch froze at one point. but the courses are great, the character design is ok. Maybe I didn't see this but I wish I could remap the controls. so I usually go for touch controls.
Good stuff. I'll go ahead and download it from.the wishlist. Cheers for the review.
@Gs69 indeed, my fav golf game too.. might wait for a sale but will def get this
how many courses?
Laggy controls in a golf game. Thats kind of a deal breaker.
Only golf game I've ever played & loved was Super Swing Golf (which is actually a Korean MMO golf game called Pangya) on Wii.
I'm amazed nobody mentions it.
@Kiwi_Unlimited Yeah, the Switch motion controls, at least in terms of golf, don't feel close to the ones from the Tiger Woods games, which were supposedly built on inferior motion-control technology. If you opened or closed the remote face just a hair, you sliced or hooked, and you could competently draw or fade. It was a super-realistic experience. Mario Golf Super Rush's motion controls feel like the original Wii Sports.
I enjoy golf games like this. I need something else besides Mario Golf.
is there a demo? laggy controls sounds awful, and the review doesn't say anything about how the game actually plays, or how many courses there are, etc.
tempted but not cheap for a punt...
@DanijoEX used to play the original MMO! Oh boy good times. 😊
Just downloaded and played a couple of rounds. It is very good and what you would expect from an everybody's golf game. Haven't experienced any lag so far.
I've played every game in the series and this does exactly what I want it to do. Pick up and play golf.
..... Sensible price as well!
@cylemmulo some graphical styles are more timeless than others. I can't get on board with the early N64/PS1 3d polygon era these days. Even some of the classics look rough. SNES and GameCube still hold up well these days. Wii era looks a bit washed out.
Missed the NES (only Nintendo console I haven't owned). C64 was my platform back then ...... The NES wasn't as big in the UK.
Recently been replaying Everybody's Golf on the PS5 (via PS4 backward compatibility). I was toying with the idea of the paid DLC to unlock some new courses but having discovered this New game I think this will be the better option
Too many good games for my wallet this month. I've already picked up Splatoon 3, Radiant Silvergun and a ton of games in the sale.
Now we've Shovel Knight Dig and this game both of which I really want.
Bought on day 1 and I really like it. Gameplay is great and the graphics is sharp and with decent AA, load times are short and it is mostly a locked 30 fps. Perfect for handheld,
@Burning_Spear that Tiger Woods game on Wii was such a great time for me and my friends in college. One rule: can't play as Tiger. Those 300+ yard drives were too OP! XD
Loved these games on Playstation especially Vita.
Looks pretty solid honestly. I haven't played many golf games in my time and I was interested in this one until I read the controls section of this review and realized that it doesn't have motion controls. That would be the only way I would be able to play the game since my girlfriend would probably play too, justifying the purchase. I didn't expect it to have motion controls on the first place considering it's other platforms, but still would have been nice for me. ☺️
This is a nice surprise. Everybody's Golf is fantastic.
100% getting this, Everybodys Golf is amazing.
I hope they do a performance patch down the road.
I played tons of Hot Shots Golf on the PS Vita and Mario Golf just never seemed worth the full $59.99 price tag in my opinion.
Only because I just got Xenoblade 3 today, I added it to my wishlist. But for only $20, it's super tempting to just buy right now.
I'd really like to know how the motion controls are. Seems weird that they didn't mention motion controls in a Switch review of a golf game. That's literally the difference between me picking up the game or not. Any sport game on the Switch should have a point marked down for not having it, and seeing it not even being listed as a Con or Pro, it just sounds like a paid article at that point. Switch Sports sold 5 million copies in 3 months because of motion controls, you remove that, and it's just another game.
they really gotta work on the logo and the game icon on the switch screen.
I love these games but come on guys.
After playing a few hours of easy come easy golf the only positive thing I can say about it is it’s better than the ps1 hot shots games.
Definitely seems like a mobile game that's been ported and cleaned up for console play. I still have Everybody's Golf on PS4 and Golf Story on Switch though so I'm okay passing on golf entries for awhile.
I'd love to see Clap Hanz try making some other arcade takes on sports games though like Boxing, Dodgeball, Basketball, Tennis, Hockey or even Croquet.
... Wun can only hope.
Lag? I've not experienced any. Great game, way better than Super Rush so far.
Gonna take a shot (lame pun intended😓) at this eventually. I'm generally not really a golf game player but Everybody's Golf is one of the few golf IPs I like so hopefully I will find some enjoyment from its spiritual sibling here.

This is a great game and was a release day purchase for me since I am a big Hot Shots Golf and Everybody's Golf fan. This game is fun and is the best golf game on the Switch. The graphics are crisp, clear, and colorful even in handheld mode. The control is precise and easy to use. There are many options, gameplay choices, characters to choose from, outfits, etc. I wish more online opponents were present. I have had to wait a while before someone shows up if at all. I think the game's title and uninspired logo may hurt the success of this otherwise fantastic game.
@StarPoint Sir, the GameCube was released in 2001.
@Marxally Mario Golf - Super Rush - the game the 99.995% of people forgot about after 2 days.
@ThomasBW84 Am I right in thinking that you don't have a single golfer avatar that you take through a tour/career mode, as in Everybody's Golf, you're given a roster of characters to switch between?
@DanijoEX
Pangya! Best fantasy golf game ever made.
So, after the embarrassingly bad Everybody's Golf for PS4, Clap Hanz just went ahead and released a proper sequel exclusive to Switch (and Apple)? Considering the equally embarrassing last Mario Golf, I hope this will be THE good golf game on Switch.
