Black Friday and Cyber Monday are fading into memory, but hopefully, you took advantage of the sales and managed to pick up a few bargains over the past week.
There were offers on consoles, accessories, games and associated merchandise, which means there was plenty of scope for savings.
But Did you get involved? Perhaps you picked up a Switch console after holding off for the past few years, or maybe you bought your second system (a Lite, perhaps?) or a 3DS for a younger member of the family? Or, was software more your focus, and did you stockpile some games for the festive period?
Let us know what deals you scored by posting a comment, and tell us what you made of Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2019 by voting in the poll below.

I did get some pretty good bargains on some meaningful Christmas gift shopping, but nothing video game or tech related.
I picked only Resident Evil 2(PS4) for 20$ but it is worth it!!!
I got a nice razer panther marvel vs capcom edition for 120 euros
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz! It was $30 instead of $40. I was really on the fence about it but caved in because I missed playing Monkey Ball in general. So far I have no regrets!
Switch Lite + Super Smash Bros. Ultimate + a case + 12 Months online + 10% off for £225 from Nintendo Store.
Well, I get two games: NFS Heat for Xbox one in physical format (it was at 50% = MX $650) and Bomberman R for Switch, physical format, it was MX $430, (well, in digital it was MX $250, but it's physical format, XD )
Nothing super interesting. I got the Sega Genesis Mini for $50 and my brother picked up Team Sonic Racing on PS4 for $20
Nothing for me! Some good deals for sure, but Black Friday falls on rent pay.
This year I saved 100%
So.... I wasn't planning on getting anything, then after Monday I ended up with BOTW, Mario+Sonic Olympics, FE Warriors, Dragon Ball Heroes physical copies and Wargroove, Mark of the Ninja and Valkyria Chronicles from estore sale... (⊙_◎)
Nothing for myself really but got my partner some Joy Cons, an upgraded SD card for games and a rake of Pokemon related home-ware. Gotta get other people's gifts before I go into Treat Yo Self mode
Got myself a backup New 3DS XL with 2 games and a case for £110.
GTA V Xbox one £8 as sold physical copy. Got given £5 to spend by Microsoft so dipped into bioware collection (I paid £8 for dragon age and mass effect deluxe editions.) Oh and got a stinking cold followed by offer of new job on the Monday. Eventful weekend by all accounts...
Nothing, because shopping holidays (that aren't actually holidays anywhere but the US) imported from other countries and taken completely out of their cultural context are stupid. Soon every day of the year will be a shopping holiday because some obscure country somewhere has a tradition of sales on that day. It's only been three weeks since 'Singles Day', the Chinese shopping holiday, and three weeks from now it's Christmas, then a week later it's New Year's, then a couple of weeks later it's X, and then Y, and then ... How are shops even supposed to turn a profit when they're expected to have sales year-round?
I bought my dad a laptop, which was promptly dropped on the way in the house. 😑
I got myself Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far, Collection of Mana, Aladdin and the Lion King for Switch, and Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. I also got volumes 1 and 2 of the Fruits Basket collector’s editions.
Astral Chain for $40, FE3H for $40, Arms for $15 and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for $15
Picked up a few cadence of hyrule , civilication and yooka laylee probably all for the backlog .
Didn’t get anything myself but I did see there were lots of decent deals about if you were in the market for a new console.
Konami Arcade for $10, Mortal Kombat 11 for $25, Genesis Mini for $45, Xbox One X with Star Wars Fallen Order, and month of EA Access, Game Pass, and Gold for $350.
Absolutely nothing. Deals were all around scarce this year
I grabbed Rayman Legends for $15 from Best Buy. I also got LoZ Breath of the Wild and Mario Tennis for $30 each from Target. Not too shabby.
Nothing tech but I did eat a lot of different foods
Downloaded the Contra and Castlevania collections on my Switch.
Downloaded God of War for my PS4.
Oh, I picked up a new physical copy of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair for Nintendo Switch at Gamestop.
All of them were $9.99 a pop.
Bought a whole closet full of games and consoles this year. Really we're some fantastic deals if you were patient and knew where to look. Spent a bit more than I was planning to but should make a healthy profit this year
I got alot! Spent $380+ in video games. For 80 bucks on the eshop I picked up rocket league, sonic mania, a hat in time with all dlc (I owned the pc edition just bought the switch one), Axiom Verge and Final Fantasy 7. I also bought a new switch lite and a 128gb sd card and added 40bmore bucks to buy dark souls remastered!
P.S. I got a playstation classic mini which I have now homebrewed to be an emulation station!
@redd214 what consoles did you get?
Got the labo vehicle kit at £15 . If they had launched nearer to 30 quid I reckon they would have sold like warmed through cakes.
@MS7000 nice. Ever considered modding your 3ds?
@nintendoknife lol why so down. You aren't providing anything useful to say
Eh heh...a KitchenAid mixer? Should be arriving today, actually.
Traded SMM2 for $38...am now in the process of grabbing it for $40 off of Craigslist. I know better than to get rid of games when in doubt!!
@PickledKong64 little bit of everything, ps4s, xbox's and a few Switches.
With a gift card I had on stand-by, I finally got one of those 1TB memory cards for my Switch. I... uh... kinda needed it. >.>
@redd214 awesome man! I picked up a switch lite, ps1 classic and a new 2ds, gba sp and vita are on their way!
@MasterGraveheart you must have a lot of games lol
On the Switch side of things, I finally decided to pick up Mario+Rabbids ($15) and Mario Tennis Aces ($30)! I was shocked to see both of those games drop that low, especially Mario Tennis, since it's a first-party Nintendo title. I also picked up a bunch of Wii,Wii U and Xbox 360 games using Gamestop's buy 1 get 1 free sale on last gen games! This sale was awesome and I'm looking forward to when they continue to try to clear out old game stock. On the Ps4, I also picked up Resident Evil 2 ($15), Devil May Cry 5 ($15) and Crash Team Racing ($15). So a pretty decent black friday, all things considered.
@Hagemaru Nah. I'm not really interested in arcade games.
The Contra/Castlevania collections are pretty solid, though. You get Japanese and European variants of most of the games included as well. Meaning, for example, you can play the "Probotector" versions of Contra in addition to the originals. Or the Japanese original version of Hard Corps that has a life bar (!). This is particularly useful for Castlevania, as the Famicom version of Dracula's Curse apparently had additional sound channels thanks to an added sound chip, leading to richer and more complex music in that version.
Also, Konami added custom button remapping support to all of the games that didn't support it natively.
@PickledKong64 nice haul, you're going to be pretty busy!!
I picked up a few odds and ends.
Contra Anniversary
One way Ticket
and a few other games but nothing major
I recently upgraded my 128 gig sd card to 256 gig and redownloaded all my games.
Was a tad bemused to find out the total tally was 75 games and I have around 50 gig left.
Think i got enough to play for a while.
@MasterGraveheart
The way I am carrying on I may need one before long too.
Ghostbusters and Ni No Kuni.
Very pleased with both.
I bought the full Starlink package on the Eshop for $26 (typically $80). The reviews were good but I had no interest in the toys and didn't want to drop a lot of money on an incomplete version.
This was too good of a price to pass up.
I picked up Super Monkey Ball BB HD on Switch for $25 and CTR Nitro-Fueled on PS4 at Target. I also got Kirby Star Allies for $50 at Wal-Mart, which is the normal price for $60 games at Wal-Mart, which had me confused because many sites said that it would be $40 at all stores. I could of got Pokemon, but I don't care all too much, I just really like Kirby.
Gears 5 was the only good deal I found but not surprising as Nintendo's deals are very rarely good so any good deals are more likely to be Xbox/Playstation.
I just picked up a new 512gGB microSD card. Just need more space. Maybe a couple of cheap puzzle apps, nothing special.
@Xeacons
How much did that 512 gig card set you back ?
Didn't buy anything as i was broke
TUROK 2 and SEGA GENESIS COLLECTION on the eshop. OVERWATCH and a 128 GB SD card for my Switch. All for around $60.
nothing i'm saving my money for next years games that I want, CyberPunk 2077, Persona 5 Royal, Animal Crossing New Horizons and Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
Switch lite Pokemon Sword & Shield edition
New Super Lucky's Tale (physical)
Collection of Mana (physical)
Celeste (physical)
Anker 20,100 powercore portable charger
Sandisk 400gb micro sd card
Medievil for PS4 (physical)
Days Gone for PS4 (physical)
I bought outer worlds for ps4. Was on the fence the whole time because I rather want to wait for the switch version but meh. Besides that I was thinking about buying some psvita, 3ds, wiiU, switch and ps4 games but decided against it. I need my money for some rare and obscure ps3 games I still want.
With three Switch systems in the house I brought physical copies of:
Ni No Kuni
The Witcher 3
Lego Harry Potter
Dragonball Fighters Z
World of Final Fantasy
Bought the first Telltale Batman for under $5, which is in my mind the really true Black-Friday-Level bargain I've bought.
I also bought the re-release of Puzzle Quest for $10 (played this to death on the PSP years ago), and Gris, for $10 as well. Both were fair deals, but not exceptional ones (as in, deals you might come across sometime during the year in some sale or another).
In the week leading to Black Friday, I also bought Yooka Laylee for about $15, which is a title I waited for a decent sale to purchase on Switch (was always pricier there than anywhere else, even in previous sales), and Asterix and Obelix XXL 2 also for about $15, which, while a nice repackage of an old game, deeply miss a 2-player mode....
@redd214 yes I am. I actually got into homebrew and modding so that's why I got all of those. The switch lite was for on the go play cuz I cant take my switch outside the house (I'm in high school still), the ps vita is for modding, the ps1 will be modded, the ds will have a r4 flash cart and gba flash card and the 2ds I will add homebrew.
Bought Dead Rising 4 and Dragon Quest Heroes 2 together for $10. Picked up Dragon Ball Fighterz Ultimate edition ($32 Switch had it on the PS4 already), hyper light Drifter ($10), and Ori and the blind forest ($13).
@PickledKong64 that's great, I dabbled in that when I was a kid as well. Have fun!
Didn't buy anything. With it being so close to Christmas, I couldn't justify buy anything for myself.
Plus, I either already owned what was on sale or what was on sale didn't interest me.
I didn't buy anything, but I did beat a few games in my 3DS backlog over the weekend (Sonic 1 & 2).
I finally picked up a copy of taiko no tatsujin for 20 dollars after sadly missing the previous sale.
I just got a 1TB micro SD card for my Switch. $200 but at least it solves my storage issues. My 400 GB is full.
@MasterGraveheart 1TB gang, rise up!
Pokemon Sword and the Guide for my sister, a box of Hot Chocolate and a wrestling DVD for my dad since his birthday is coming up.
Got myself a Genesis Mini, and a new 128GB memory card for the switch!
Just Spider-Man for PS4. £13.99 for a retail copy was too good to pass. Is awesome so far!
New phone, an Elgato HD60 S for capturing game footage and Spiderman for PS4! I was tempted with some Switch games but nothing caught my eye.
@PickledKong64 No, though I do have my original Aqua Blue 3DS should I decide to so eventually. I don't feel like modding my other 3DS' because they are limited/special edition models.
I picked up 5 games for myself, but the highlight was Assassin's Creed Odyssey Deluxe Edition for the PS4. The full game, two other AC games that I don't have, Every Single Piece of DLC (and my god was there a lot) for $30.
I got a bunch of Switch games. Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age for $19.99, Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, and Crash Bandicoot N' Sane Trilogy for $15 each, all from Target. I got Final Fantasy X/X2 for $24.99 and Chronicles of Mana for $19.99, both from Amazon. I also got the Contra collection for $9.99 and Valkyria Chronicles for $14.99, both from the eShop.
Got a lot of things but primarily the $200 PS4 bundle and a $30 256 GB microSD card for my Switch.
The best bargain was Tesco's 2 for £60. That was way before Black Friday. Nothing else came close to that for Switch games over the weekend so I bought nothing.
I got Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for $20, Astral Chain and Fire Emblem: Three Houses for $50, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for $25, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle for $15, and Octopath Traveler for $40. Good deals all around for me, I think.
@redd214 thanks will do
I got Earthlock as it was 80% off, but that was a company birthday celebration price rather than Black Friday.
Finally broke down and bought a Zacian Edition Swith Lite and got the $25 Gift Coupon from GS they were offering as well as a few games on sale. It'll be my primary on the go system while my launch unit will probably stay married to the TV.
Xbox One X. "Control" Steelbook, Resident Evil 2 Remake and TC Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Switch: Cuphead, Luigi's Mansion 3, Zelda Links Awakening and many other games.
The sales tend to be for older titles I've already purchased, but the Telltale Batman series for under 4 bucks was pretty spiffy
Kingdom Hearts III
A Hat in Time
Resogun
Twisted Metal Black
Backup Dualshock 4 controller
And since I didn't see any compelling Switch sales, I of course am waiting until today to finally break down and buy one. My wife nudged me along. In preparation, we bought Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, and the Link's Awakening remake.
I picked up yooka laylee, Tetris effect, days gone, and borderlands 3.
Strictly speaking about video game sales during Black Friday and cyber Monday, I only bought resident evil remake on the switch.
I got rhythm heaven, wario master of disguise, castlevania judgment, wonderful 101, valkyria chronicles 4, sushi striker, and final fantasy 12 for about 55 bucks total at gamestop
I’ve been planning on buying Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2 for a long time now. The both where both $30 online at Walmart (which started on Wednesday at 9:00 where I live, so it was pretty easy to get everything when the sale started) and I couldn’t resist that kind of deal. I also bought a wireless controller for $35, which sold out within minutes after me buying it, so it made me feel lucky.
I downloaded the Castlevania and Contra Anniversary Collections onto my Switch since they were 50% off.
Picked up a scan disc 512GB extreme micro Sd card for 79.99
I downloaded Full Metal Furies and picked up a copy of the Detective Pikachu movie. I had never seen the movie and it is great!
More a price drop as apposed to an actual a Black Friday deal, but I bought Mortal Kombat 11 (£22, Switch.. though I've seen it for £18 since). Also bought Bloodstained RotN (£16, Switch), and another year of PS Plus (£28).
I bought quite a few on the eShop, including Team Sonic Racing. After playing it on my brother’s PS4, I was hooked.
MK8 Deluxe is great, but I played the Wii U version so much that I haven’t revisited it much on the Switch.
Got my 1TBmicrosd and about 30 games. I'm stacked till next October.
I ended up buying 11 games from the eShop. Here’s the list, if anyone cares:
Ni No Kuni
Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection
Batman: The Enemy Within
Pillars of Eternity
Grandia HD Collection
God Eater 3
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Torchlight II
Turok
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Spent a little over $200 for all that, which I was pretty pleased about. Now my account it depleted, so time to start saving up for next year, I guess!
Gaming-wise, I got 8bitdo's SN30+ controller, and their wireless Gamecube controller adapter.
Later in the eShop I picked up all three of the Konami Anniversary Collections. I was about to pick up Skyrim for the same price but for a game that big, I'd rather have it on physical.
Picked up a few things that were on my eShop wish list.
Ori and the Blind Forest
The Adventure Pals
Flipping Death
Katana ZERO
SEGA AGES Virtua Racing
Hyper Light Drifter
The Messenger
Picked up a few things for the PS4 Pro as well, but I won't post those here.
Got a little impulsive, but I was glad to get a few discounts in the season:
-FE Three Houses.
-Ring Fit Adventure.
-A Hat in Time.
-Surge Wireless Controller.
-Hyper Light Drifter (eShop).
-Sonic Mania (eShop).
Got Bloodstained Ritual of the night
@LunarFlame17
So you are pretty solid for the coming year.
I got(ordered it's not here yet) a 512 gb sd card for a 140 bucks off for my switch.
For ps4 I got RDR2, REmake 2, and DMC 5. I haven't played DMC 5 yet but I found 4 to be really a let down compared to Bayonetta 1 and 2.
I am really excited to finally have all my non physical games on one card. Right now they are across 3 128 cards kinda sorted by genre.
Oh the discount on ps plus for a year as well. I didn't get games for switch because I pretty much have everything I want pkus funds were limited.
@SetupDisk
Call me lazy but I really hate having multiple card for my games.
I want everything on hand on 1 card so i can switch at will
And the worst thing is that even though everything is installed on my new 256 gig card.
I only have 50 gig left at this rate i wil need a1 tb card.
Hopefully this time next year those price have dropped.
For me I got a PSVR 5 game bundle (still need to check out Breath of the Wild on it), Doom VFR, Eve Valkyrie, and Zone of the Enders to play on it. I got Indivisible for PS4 and I also got some Metroid and Zelda tshirts on sale.
For presents I bought my mom, housemate, and godmother some Black Rifle Coffee and I got my housemate an illustrated biography of Yoshitaka Amano and the Godzilla Criterion Collection. Not everything was on sale but I got it all around Black Friday. Also I'm broke until Friday.
I picked up a few things off the eshop,
Subsurface Circular, Sparkle Unleashed, Sparkle 2,
Morphite and Cadence of Hyrule.
Also bought Lego World's for my boys who are both getting a Switch Lite for Xmas. It will be their first gaming system, kinda like my Gameboy Pocket back in the day.
@KitsuneNight
Oh no it's not lazy at all, it's a real problem when someone is over and we want to play a game I haven't played in a while. I tried to keep all the fighting games together but when the genre is not as clear it's hard to remember what card it is on.
Plus I have a lot of games so some genres take up more than 128 gb. Thankfully I will be able to get all of them on the 512 gb. and have about 100 gb to spare I think.
lol, I bought 21 games during this sale! I spent a total of $147.64 on the e-shop and the retail value was $359.78!
I have just stacked my backlog for the foreseeable future... I am so excited!
I bought a buncha multiplayer games to play with my Girlfriend, such as Captain Toad treasure tracker, Unravel Two, Heave Ho (which we are currently enjoying very much), and a couple of others. Nothing crazy, but I'm happy! Great deals!
(Also quest for the golden duck was 11 cents, so I bought that too 😅)
For me:
Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition ($10)
Persona 5 ($8)
PS Plus 12 Month Subscription ($45)
DualShock 4 controller ($40)
Simon amiibo ($15)
$20 eShop card, which I used to buy Cuphead ($15).
There were many other games that were on my radar, but they were either not in stock or my spending reached its limit.
Switch lite and eshop card
It was a good week. Forager, Trine 4, Cities: Skylines, Umihara Kawase Fresh, and Lego Jurassic World. All were 33% off or better.
Diabo 3 and The Witcher...even though I have both on PS4. I just wanted those two games on Switch so badly 😊
1 3DS game, 5 Switch games, 2 DVDs, quite a few christmas gifts so yeah was quite good.
Astral Chain, Mario Tennis and Mario Maker 2 for Switch. Many movies and other games for other consoles. Also a hard drive for the laptop.
I didn't buy anything, because I live in America, and due to our broken healthcare system, I will have to shell out over $2000 USD (well over £1500 for our British cousins) for a hospital visit that I had in late October; and that's after you take health insurance into account. =(
With the sale prices, I was able to sell almost all my physical Switch games on ebay and move to digital. The only ones I'm still waiting on are Super Mario Maker 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 to have a digital sale and then I'll be digital all the way.
Wolfenstein Youngblood, great game! They really did Some magic there.
Also Dragonball Fighter Z!
Bomberman from the eShop. I know it’s not amazing, but figured it’s worth 10 bucks.
Picked up Dark Souls and Transistor from the eshop. Enjoying both so far.
I did get The First Tree for my two daughters for half off on the eShop. They love foxes and we're talking about that fox game I showed them the trailer of awhile back suddenly so I figured I would check the eShop sale and sure enough. I will have to play it first since I understand the story is emotional and involves death, though it is rated E for Everyone.
Other than that I saw Walmart had Final Fantasy X -X2 on sale leftover from black Friday so I snagged it today. What is today called anyways? Regret Tuesday?
Radiant historia was fun. Got a buncha non Nintendo stuff, Xbox one with a buncha games, fave being just cause 4 or transformers devastation. Did like puyo puyo Tetris too.
I bought Some DK Bongos for Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, A Wii U for Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D world (and a few other exclusives not ported to the Switch). LoZ: Breath of the Wild was 50% off at target, Luigi's Mansion 3 for around $40, and Wind Jammers. I got them all at a really good deal.
Physical stuff:
Digital:
So yeah pretty good all round.
I grabbed Ori and the Blind Forest, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, and Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered.
I ended up buying 8 games in the cyber eshop sale:
For around $70 CAN, it was an absolute steal. I only wish Pacman Championship Edition 2 was in that sale. I've been waiting on a discount on that one for forever.
@PickledKong64 I've used the term "metric butt-ton" to describe my library of Switch games... @[email protected];;
Deal 1 - Bought a Nintendo Switch console that also came with a gift card worth $125. A pre-Black Friday deal at Shoppers in Canada. This is a gift for my niece for Christmas (the Switch and the Giftcard).
Deal 2 - Bought Fight of Gods on Nintendo eShop for 50% off. This is a joke Christmas gift to myself. Gonna have some friends over and drop this gem on them. Jesus vs. Santa incoming. Me going to hell, outgoing.
Deal 3 - Bought Mario & Sonic at the 2020 Olympics on eShop for 15% off, or whatever it was slightly discounted for. Couldn't resist, and my niece will also be able to download and play it since I'll have her on my family plan.
Almost Deal 4 - Almost bought an all digital XBox One S for $179.99 (Canadian dollars) but resisted. Just couldn't do it, even at that outrageously cheap price!
I picked up My Friend Pedro and Sonic Mania. Enjoyed playing My Friend Pedro. I already owned Sonic Mania but I wanted it for the Switch too.
Loved it. Diablo 3 for $25. Playing the heck out of it right now.
Lego Worlds for $7.50. Have about 20 min play time. Seems ok but currently on backlog.
Now to the grand finale...
I went to Target on Thanksgiving evening. The xbox one s with Jedi Fallen Order was accidentally placed in the $150 slot with the xboxes that dont include the new Star Wars game. (Its supposed to be $200 on sale.) Because they put it in the wrong spot, they honored the $150 price.
So there it is, my Mona Lisa* of Black Friday deals:
Xbox One S 4k with Jedi Fallen Order for $150.
*well it's at least one of the lesser known Van Goghs.
I picked up The Witcher 3 for switch. But it was only 10$ cheaper so not super great savings.
It's funny to see that there is one single disturbed guy who has to downvote anybody who wrote he saved money or that he won't buy a given game under any article.
I decided to go all in for Christmas and get my three kids a new system and games. Our latest system was the Wii U and it’s clearly outdated now. This was a great time to do it and everything was discounted! I picked up:
-New version switch w/ extra pro controller and extra joycons
-Nintendo online membership and 200gb memory card
-Physical copies of: BOTW, Mario Party, Super Smash Bros, Link’s Awakening, Pokémon Sword, Killer Queen Black, Overcooked 2, Minecraft, Starlink, Rocket League, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Mario+Rabbids
-5x digital games
-8x Amiibos for use in Super Smash Bris and the Zelda games
That’s about it. It was well worth sitting on tax return cash and selling a portion of my toy collection.
Picked up a couple of right sorts, real dirty they where. Gave them a good clean and play really well now. N64 smash Bros and castlevania legacy of darkness off eBay.
Super Mario Party and Steamworld Dig2: $50, Woo Hoo!!
Nothing on those days. But I DID pick up-GACK!
Is dragged off-screen by the "It's a secret" police
