Trying to stay positive here..... um, I really like the Rainbow Road in this one. Music is excellent. It's pretty to look at. I like the P Switch challenges too... buuuuuuuut.... Where are the tricky twists and turns!? 90% of each course feels like a straight line with unnecessary padding until you reach the actual bit that represents the title. Then, the courses are about 4x as wide as old courses. I know, I know, they had to make it bigger to accommodate 24 players, but it just makes things feel very barren. Don't get me started on the infuriatingly placed question panels in Free Roam. I think it would have been better to implement challenges to each course, similar to Burnout, like finding a hidden route, speeding through a ramp-based shortcut etc.
Still got plenty to do for sure, but I'm not sure bigger is always better. I get it, they are trying something new, but I'm not completely sold yet.
@N00BiSH Well, jury is still out there and everyone is entitled to their own opinions, even if you think they are junk 😜. CM will always be the definitive Mario & Co, for sure. Happy gaming!
I have to say, whilst I was a little hesitant with the voice changes, Kevin Afghani has very quickly grown into all of his roles. I'm especially enjoying his Luigi in Mario Kart World ^_^
@Ogbert - still play it regularly with the family! @JohnnyMind - this is what I'm hoping for! With Ninty testing the water with second screen / Zelda Notes style apps and Game Share, I'm really hoping they will dive into more games like this.
@RainbowGazelle Digital only options do suck, totally agree. Totally understand if the Switch 2 is not for you, especially in its infancy. I shall keep building up my backlog and inevitably adding more bow to my shelves 😂
@RainbowGazelle Attached the following link for you: https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/News/2025/June/Upcoming-Nintendo-Switch-2-games-June-2025-2840361.html There are at least 4 exclusives, a large amount of ports with some boasting exclusive content launching first on Nintendo Switch 2. Don't forget the Gamecube classics! I'm very much looking forward to playing Soul Calibur 2 again No launch is without its faults, sure, but with Donkey Kong Bananza following up next month, I think there's enough here to justify a decent launch window selection. Hopefully, Ninty will win you over with later releases. Happy gaming bud ^_^
@moreDKplz Cool, I get that 😊 Hopefully, the Koopalings will return to the roster at some point at least! Really digging the customisation in this outing!
I'm a little sad they've not added other Nintendo IP characters this time. Would have loved to see Isabelle, Villager, Link and others return. Kirby and co would also be awesome. Maybe they are saving these for future DLC?
So, that works out at around £1.12 per course. It's a good deal, especially as a starter. I'll have Mario Kart World for mains and Kirby Air Riders for pudding 😋
When you think back to how Reggie just described the Wii U unit as a box, Nintendo are replicating that here; trying to shift the focus from hardware to software. Ninty rarely fails, Wii Music aside, and they always come up with fun new gameplay ideas.
It's some progress at least! What they need to do now is offer the ability to filter out / hide certain key phrases and/or certain Developers, or games. I still use the likes of PSPrices for hunting down and keeping track of deals. Obviously, I'm now reading many of the comments above from the other fine contributors to NL, which basically cover the same things, but are more articulate.
They could have just added $10.00 / £10.00 to the console price and include this as a free download. What I would have really loved though is some kind of spiritual successor to Nintendo Land to showcase what you can do with the controllers / system. Maybe if they offered the base 'Welcome Tour' experience for free and added a premium DLC option for more content, that could have been an option too. Hey ho, certainly not going to lose sleep over Ninty's decision.
Ah, 'will maybe' - what a wonderful phrase. I'm sure we will get GC games eventually - this was why the OG Luigi's Mansion was never packaged with LM2 Remastered; Ninty are keeping this in their back pocket to entice more Nintendo Online subscriptions!
I thought this was more like a jazzed-up Ninty daily calendar with fun facts, curios and free illustrations to mark special events rather than sharing specific Switch 2 news after 2nd April. Might want to update the post @Olliemar28 to remove ambiguity ^_^
EDIT: Post updated - remain awesome NL!
Again, the official hands-on demonstrations go all the way up to June, I highly doubt it will launch straight after that. These rumours are going to cause a massive drop in share price (& subsequent quick profit for investors) if Nintendo turn round and drop a Q4 release date, which is highly likely. Maybe this is the reason the rumours are dropping; it might be a tactical setup. Happens all the time.
Can't wait to fire this up later this week, eeep! Part of me is wondering though whether this will likely received a boost / upgrade once the Switch 2 launches, buuuuuut that could be ages away and I'm impatient ^_^
Fun fact: Reggie once pronounced Lucario as 'Lucario', causing a nearly 30 second arguement over pronounciation at the local Smash Bros. tournament. They had lemonade afterwards - Source: My Uncle.
My Uncle, who works at Nintendo NoA obvs, had a Uncle who worked in NoE - there was a minor feud over who had the best tash, but they did eventually see eye to eye. Christmas family parties with them were always... intersting.
I'm hoping they will add in Elmer Fudd: "Shhh. Be vewy vewy quiet..." shoves gun up backside - double barrel load blasts through body and blasts out brains "FATAWITY" cue trademark laugh
Hopefully, they might offer new incentives, like discounts on repeat subscriptions and maybe even replace Gold Points with straight-forward credit.... it's either that or, they may offer subscription tiers that offer various perks, or percentage discounts off first party eShop games.
I'm trying to be optimistic, but this is Nintendo after all, gawd bless them.
What would be good is if we get to choose from classic and modern designs. Really hoping we get some other classic Nintendo characters with corresponding tracks like Kirby.
So, hands on events all the way up to June suggests that we might not be getting a release until at least September / October time. Wii & Wii U both came out in November, so very much a Fall release window.
Those poor Toad stress toys will be getting a good squeezing. Maybe even the Water Temple from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will get re-filled from all those tears.
@Rpg-lover I'm worried the successor wont meet the ridiculous hype that people are expecting too.... 4K 60FPS is no way going to happen. A modest improvment to CPU & GPU sure, but it's going to be more of the same with some hopefully minor improvements to Joy-Cons / analog sticks, dock and UI. I'm excited none the less; I'll be buying it regardless of pros & cons, but I'm tempering expectations.
@Rpg-lover I'm not sure if that portable PC market is going to gain a big enough foothold to threaten Nintendo sales, especially seeing as Nvidia's next focus is AI software across a variety of markets to ensure long term growth and stability. Year on year revisions for high-end expensive GPUs is not sustainable and they've not made any significant leaps in high end tech since 2022 with their 4090 model.
For the most part, people buy a Nintendo console for the 1st party content and as a prime entertainment device in their home. Sales are anyones guess and will vary depending on so many factors, but content and marketing are key.
Certainly will be an interesting few years for tech growth!
If it does, it does, albeit tailored for the console. If it doesn't, well.... shrugs plenty of first party content, which is the primary reason why I play stuff on a Nintendo console.
It's for a product that's not even out yet and the pre-order page says 'Expected Design - Design will be tuned to final specifications'. As if they've got details on the Switch 2.
