Square Enix: When we say Remastered / HD, what we mean is run the pixels through a smooth filter. Fans: Oh. Can I at least have a semi-decent font for the reamastered text in this release please? Square Enix: OK, OK OK! Jeez, just this once though OK? Here, have it in Times New Roman. Just be thankful it's not comic sans, but we're taking away the old OST privileges. Fans: 😔
I really enojyed the TV show Kidding; shame it was ubruptly bought to an end. Jim can do wonders in serious roles too, so seeing him retire is a shame, but I don't blame him for wanting to break away and pursue hobbies & happiness. Maybe one or two stellar projects might surface that might bring him back briefly.
@mike_intv quite possible! They probably knew they would have to communicate this in the pending year end review to investors anyway. I'm sure they'll have a plan in place to drive the share price back up shortly. A Splatoon 3 focused Direct might help with that.
@Ambassador_Kong 40 years ago? That's a bit of an exaggeration. There are of course exceptions, sure: No Mans Sky, Cyberpunk, pretty much the entire modding scene for multiple games like ME Andromeda (Thanks community!)... the list goes on and on, but if it's bad off the bat and doesn't deliver what it promised initially, then there's still this element that once tarnished with a bad review or poor first impression, it tends to stick & will likely hurt sales and faith in a developer / publisher. I'd rather see development cycles avoid the crunch, take the time required to make as good as possible for launch than rush an unfinished hot mess (FYI I wouldn't necessarily call any of the examples we've listed as a hot mess, but light on content & buggy, which can all be solved with updates for sure).
@BlackenedHalo I don't think that statement from Shigeru Miyamoto can really apply to the odd few games that transcend a lacklustre start. As you know, FF14 has been out for 12 years & received numerous overhauls in terms of content; it's an ever evolving MMO. You couldn't release a single player Zelda game and expect players to wait 12 years for it to get eventually good.
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." They should take all the time they need - I have no doubt it will be worth the wait.
Sad to see something like Skylanders above titles like Halo & Zelda, but then I suppose all the toys to life style games rely heavily on the extra sales for invidual figures.
Mario 64 has always been where it's at, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, along with all the upcoming DLC, is probably the title that offers the most in terms of value & replayability for me.
@Specters I was mostly lucky as I didn't have any real noticieable problems at launch with Elden Ring. I had a couple of issues of pop-in and maybe two stutters upon loading from a Site of Grace, but only in certain areas. Obviously, it was poorly optimised at launch & those with different hardware combinations and specs are going to have a myriad of different results. It could of course be I didn't sink enough hours in, but I had done a lot of exploring of Limgrave & Caelid in the intial 12 hours. Maybe RF5 will eventually get ported to PC. Would be interested to see how it runs on an emulator compared to switch.
Hoping some patches will help some of the performace issues. Still grabbing this while I can as it's likely one of those physical editions that will likely be super expensive and rare down the line.
Here's my list, for what it's worth: Best Zelda: BotW (Twilight Princess is a close second for me) Worst Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - I really enjoyed some aspects, but the controls and the repetitive nature of the Temple of the Ocean King just kills it (I'm excluding obvious entires here like Tri-Force Heroes) Best Mario: This is a super tough decision... but it's got to be Mario 64 Worst Mario: Super Mario Sunshine... it's a marmite game; you either love it or loathe it. I'm in the latter camp. I hated the mechanics, controls, the layout of the levels & the setting & characters were bland with little variation. It all felt a bit like busy work cleaning up Isle Delfino.
I see a lot of comments on Twitter and alike complaining about the different art direction & general lack of polish in the graphics department, but to be honest, I'm just looking forward to the fun factor.
@Mikmoomamimocki Yeh, I did think that entry was odd, especially considering it's a derivative of Scrabble. Pitchforks at the ready if a Zynga title wins the accolade this year!
To me, there's only 3 main competitors to OoT on the list:
PaRappa the Rapper, Resident Evil & Sid Meier's Civilization (maybe at a pinch Minesweeper). The thought of Candy Crush being on there makes me feel a little resentful, but I know it's super popular.
@Troll_Decimator the £70 price tags on PS5 games is a massive hurdle. Still amazes me to see how 3-4 year old games on Switch consistently sell well, but then that's a testament to the large install base and quality of the titles.
@Anti-Matter It was a commercial success upon release 9 months ago and sold 1.1 million copies in just a short space of time. The biggest issue will be lack of consoles due to manufacturer shortages, but I would imagine sales have been trickling in.
Some playing cards, some dice, a steelbook and a poster.... for £90. Yeh, hardpass from me. Will pick up the game at some point for sure, but those special edition extras are weak.
Looking forward to buying NFTs of my favourite Amiibo cards. Hope they release some digitial albums for us to put them in and that they don't sell out.
The twist? Full on expanding into Ninty's IP, so I would hope to see the likes of Kirby, Kid Icarus, Samus & others get into the karts.
@AtlanteanMan Literally typing and yours popped up just before mine =0p
I like to think there will be many more people like her as my generation and the several below me grow up. Age is irrelevant though as we can enjoy all sorts of things at any age. Grateful that she can share her passion!
Nothing wrong with teasing a project. Everyone needs to be patient and respect the long, arduous task of a game's development. I'm sure the wait will be worth it. 'When it's done' should be applied to more release dates instead of holding teams to specific time frames.
Aw, no love for Zombii U then?! I know it divided critics, but that was a solid game which utilised the gamepad perfectly. Alien Isolation is still the scariest game I've ever played. I would love a sequel, but it's unlikely now.
I had fun with the last Mario Party, but boy, did those boards get old real quick. I'm grateful for the remastered boards in this outing & I'm really hoping they will support it with DLC in the future.
I hope that they will prepare for his eventual retirement for the role by recording as much dialogue / exclamation type sound effects so they can sample his iconic voice for years to come.
@Friendly Thankfully, we did get at least 1x Suikoden & 1x Silent Hill game on Nintendo hardware, but it would be nice to have the main series releases, for sure ^_^ I keep thinking how Fallout 3 & NV would be such a good fit on the Switch. Maybe Microsoft / Bethesda will continue to deliver past games like these with Nintendo as it would hardly hurt their exclusive lineup & will ultimately bring in a load of profit.
@Stocksy @turnmebackwards It says you can buy them in a bundle for $49.99 / £49.99? Sure, you can buy old gen games & consoles for less, but then you're not paying for the remaster and convenience then. I wouldn't particualry recommend playing them on the 360 as the performance was questionable at best.
