I overlooked Dragon Quest Builders, the first time this article was published. I was too busy looking for Origami King. I’m glad boredom brought me back!
@Toy_Link I’m confused. So Nintendo was also suppose to be a part of Epic Universe? I thought it was strictly a Universal thing. Or, was Epic Universe supposed to be next to Universal? I remember hearing about that park, but I thought it was it’s own thing. Is the setup something like Disneyland and California Adventure?
I loved the buildup to the actual release. I found the creator interesting. Pixar playing a part helped my excitement. Too bad the negatives were a no go for me.
Never heard of the series. Just reading this article gave me shovel ware vibes. Then I see the comments. I wonder if the developers name triggered something subconsciously! Maybe I’m aware of their work and didn’t realize it! 😂
@Miyamotosan There was somebody (a fellow commenter) who convinced me to buy it. The reviews and people’s opinions had me on the fence. The comment and the fact that people seemed to not be to fond of the Wii entry (the only Mario RPG game I’ve played AND LOVED) convinced me to eventually get it. After seeing the comments on the Wii entry, I’m thinking, ok, so is it the game that people genuinely wasn’t to fond of? Or, do the fans want Nintendo to give them more of the same (the SNES version) with updates? I’m leaning more towards the later.
I bought S3 back in March. I love Picross. Even the 3DS game. But, after awhile, the puzzles in S3 started to feel like a chore. The rules aren’t that clear on how to solve the more complex puzzles. I resorted to using hints, which takes away from the fun, and even then it felt like guess work in order to continue. Whenever I got stuck back in the day, it felt it took clear and logical thinking to get myself out of whatever jam I thought I was in. Sad, because when I did play, it was a nice change of pace, when compared to other games I have.
Can somebody PLEASE answer this question?! I have this game, and the first, downloaded. I want to play the sequel, first (played the demo). So I have to play the original game, in order to enjoy this game? I haven’t been able to find an answer, anywhere?
I haven’t been able to find the answer to this question. Since the game has been brought up, I’ll try again.
I have Yooka Laylee and the sequel download, ready to play. I want to play the first game, but seeing how I played Odyssey this year, I’m afraid of it being a letdown. Especially after the ok reception. But, I really want to play the sequel! Do I have to play the first game, in order to enjoy the sequel?
@Umario251 thanks for that! I’ll go ahead and get the game, once I make my way through at least half my backlog (almost finished with Okami!) One question. Why do you find the battle system questionable?
To this day, I’m on the fence as to whether or not I should buy this game. I’ve read and watched reviews. I’ve looked at people comments on it. I’m still undecided. 🤷🏾♂️ I’ve only played the Wii Paper Mario. I LOVED that game! It wasn’t until the release of King, that I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t like the Wii entry in the series. I might end up getting it, based on my experience and how others felt about Super Paper Mario.
Sega gets a lot of flack. Most of it (all?) is justifiable. But, I’ve always admired them for taking chances. What they did with the Dreamcast is a beautiful example.
I have both Switch consoles. I got both around the same time. While I enjoy how much easier it is to carry my Lite in my backpack, I rarely use it. Matter of fact, if it wasn’t for me seeing the article on this site, about charging the console, I wouldn’t have touched it when I did. Also, it’s rare that I play my OG Switch on my tv.
I have lots of love for Nintendo, but these anniversary collections show their hubris. 😒 If this ends up being true, it wouldn’t be a big deal, if the collection was stuffed with extras. Same goes for timed releases.
I have nothing against Reggie. But, reading interviews with him became boring after awhile. He sounded so...corporate. I get it, it’s his job. I just didn’t understand the rabid love after awhile. Always saying “the right thing” regardless of the situation.
Not since the GameCube have I been so bored by the launch of a new console. No killer AAA games, day one. The ability to play new games on the old consoles, makes this next gen even less exciting. All this excitement about quicker load times, teraflops and playing however you want, had me thinking how happy I am with my Switch. Not since the SNES has Nintendo been in such a beautiful position in terms of library of games. Also, it started out the gate strong. I hear that the Xbox, play how you want feature, works surprisingly well. But, it can’t compete with having the Switch library on the go. In my eyes, it never will. This, coming from somebody who owns an Xbox One to go with my Switch.
Okami. I was on it heavy until I found out Roller Coaster Tyson 3 was out, and was actually good! I’m about 30 hours into Okami. I want to have it done by Monday. I have a digital backlog and I’m ready to move on. Still love Okami, though! I’ve also gotten the hang of playing RCT 3 on the Switch. It was painful! 😂
I played the original on Game Pass. I loved it, but I never got around to finishing it. Don’t know why, exactly. I loved it while I played it. I will definitely buy both on the Switch.
Edit: It’ll be interesting to see how the rumble is on the Switch version. It helped to immerse myself while playing the game on the Xbox One. Very strong!
@Jojo_Frekote I thought about trying 8 on the WiiU, but the Wii version left such a bad taste in my mouth! It didn’t help that I went to a midnight launch to get it! 😂 It just felt like the thing to do at the time! 🤷🏾♂️😂 I’ll give 8 a try. May as well. The Switch has done nothing but impress me so far (was able to snag an OG and Lite Switch this past March!), so why not give 8 a shot!
Playing modern Mario Kart games is like when I play the modern Street Fighters and Smash Bros. People see fun, I see chaos! 😂 And if I emerge victorious while playing, it’s pure luck! 😂
@JMR_Alden The fact that I don’t know what that is should tell you something. 🤷🏾♂️ All I know is, my success rate was best while playing that and the DS version. 😂 The Wii Mario Kart officially turned me off the series.
I grew up playing Mario Kart. By the time the WiiU came along, I was done with the franchise. The AI has turned me off this series. It don’t see how people win playing these games! Guess I just can’t get the hang of it. 🤷🏾♂️ I did love the DS and 64 versions! They were the only ones that felt like they had a nice balance when it came to difficulty.
This looks really cool, though! I wish I had a child. I would let it play this, take it away, give it the original SNES version! I wanna see the reaction! 😂
I bought this game as soon as I saw this review. Five hours later and I still haven’t built a coaster. The camera is wonky! What’s up with it moving every time I lay a piece of track? Makes it hard to keep up with what I’m doing. Having spent countless hours playing this series on PC, the idea of playing on the go was so exciting. Now, I’m disappointed and want my money back. Incredibly frustrating for me.
I loved part one back in the day. Stayed up for three days straight playing it. I totally wasn’t expecting this to be good. I was heartbroken when it was originally released. My earliest memory of a run in with game breaking bugs! Looks like I’m taking the plunge back into this world...AND ON THE GO!!!!
I’m literally in the middle of reaching a climactic fight in Okami. If it wasn’t for that, I would on the eshop purchasing this game!
@liverpoolvk ok. After seeing your reply, I’ll put it in the maybe pile: I’ve never played this type of game, but I did grow up loving action games like Streets of Rage and X-Men Legends. Between reading the names of characters, descriptions of how the battles and mechanics work, the heart of the game and the writers own sauce put on reviews, I was left feeling....🤷🏾♂️
I wanted to try Hades. I knew nothing about it, until it was announced during a recent direct. But, I can’t even get through a review without going, “what exactly would I be doing in this game?” For some reason it doesn’t gel with me. I guess that’s a huge sign telling me to not bother. 🤷🏾♂️ I’ll continue to play Okami!
I loved selling my old stuff on eBay! I games and systems going back to the NES. As I discovered what people would buy, I found so many little treasures in my own stuff! Empty boxes. Manuals. The black plastic cases old NES games used to come in. I could go on and on!
@Bizzyb your comment has made me consider playing a BotW after Okami. I just didn’t want to get burned out on these types of games. What you said about getting lost in the world and discovering new things has me reconsidering my decision!
One thing that I always tell people about Okami, I love how I get lost in the world and I rarely play it in docked mode! 😂 I love wondering around figuring out what’s next. That feeling you get when you finally figure it out. How satisfying it feels to use the celestial brush in combat. Being ok with grinding because of the rewards for doing so. The feeling that I’m witnessing magic when I see a level blossom with life. Throwing in a new enemy when you start to long for change. Surprising new or changes to familiar environments. I could go on and on. OH, and the score!!!!! 😍
It’s just a brilliant game that has shown me why I’ve seen people say, “I envy anybody who gets to experience Okami for the first time!”
Looks like Nintendo has a GTA 4 on their hands with BotW. I’ve never played BotW, but I’m currently 10 hours into Okami (INCREDIBLE!) and it’s made me thirsty for these types of games! I plan on playing BotW once I beat Okami and another game.
@Kev_Morrison Sounds like you have a dislike for him beyond his work. Why such strong words? Just asking out of curiosity.
@muscpt Ok. I see that you don’t care for him, too! Why? I’m asking because I’ve heard people say that they don’t care for his work, but I don’t recall people saying that they dislike him as a person.
