@Troll_Decimator 😂 I’m not a troll. I know everybody has different taste, but Nintendo’s output has been a snooze fest, for a couple of years now. It feels like they’ve been coasting on past success and Animal Crossing. People keep getting hyped for these long Directs (I used to), but, usually, twenty minutes in…. 😴
Will we be getting the usual? RPG’s that look like their from bygone eras? Anime style games? Lots of indies? A huge Nintendo game, at the end, only to be announced for a year from now? 😴 These Directs aren’t that exciting. Haven’t been for a long time.
It’s really strange how we celebrate these companies making all this money. I know, more money, more product. I still find it odd. It feels like people worship these corporations. I used to like reading these things, too. And would feel bad if a company was struggling (WiiU era). I used to be so invested. One day, I realize how ridiculous it all seems. 🤷🏾♂️
@sketchturner as somebody who sold their entire Nintendo collection online, they should kept them. When the Switch is discontinued, the price will go up. They should have looked at it as a long term investment.
@Dirty0814 I’m still debating on whether or not to keep my Switch. Video games, in general, have started to lose their appeal. Mario Odyssey, Okami and Mark of the Ninja, were my last really good times playing games. It’s been a year and a half of struggling to care. I have a 128 gig memory card, full of Switch games. AAA and indie. I also had to buy another card. I have the NES and SNES apps.I look at it all and go...’MEH.’ I’m just going through a lot. I start to feel restless when I sit and do anything, except eat! 😂 Sometimes, playing retro games can increase my feelings. Like when played Star Fox 64. It was my first time since the 90’s. I should have avoided it and let my memories stay intact. 😒
@Flashlink99 it’s cool! I totally understand where your coming from. The last part of your comment, about growing out of gaming, it hurts. I’ve been struggling with the thought of that being the reason why I’m reacting to the current state of gaming, the way I am. I still remember coming home, and my sister having a NES hooked up, ready for me to play! Mario Bros., Track & Field and Duck Hunt! 😂 I had so much fun playing Mario Odyssey. So much so, it became my favorite game from the HD era of gaming. That was a little over a year ago. I know, late! 😂 It felt like I was playing through the evolution of Mario! 😂 It’s been a struggle, since then.
The Direct I was thinking about was back in January. I actually think Nintendo’s E3 showing was the most interesting. Metroid looks cool. I love Mark of the Ninja! It reminds me of that game! 😂
The industry feels like a whole lot of noise, not enough substance, for lack of a better phrase. I didn’t mean to poop on remasters. Those, along with ports, have introduced me to some great game (OKAMI!)) But when people get excited about the possibility of yet another The Last of Us port or GTA5. Another Final Fantasy remaster, I start to wonder about the industry and myself.
I’ll be honest with you. My eyes got a bit...misty...when I read the part about growing out of gaming. Then I started reminiscing. Almost felt like a therapy session. I got something heavy off my chest! 😂
Edit: I’ve thought about whether or not I should sell my Switch. Thinking this is the end. For some reason, I can’t let it go. But I was able to sell my old stuff. Going back to the original NES.
@Flashlink99 To be honest, I’m not into graphics like that. I was baffled by the hype for the XSX and PS5. Tera flops and whatever Sony was talking about...🙄 I have a Switch and an Xbox One. I only use my Xbox to charge little table lamps and noise cancellation headphones. Ive always supported Nintendo. Even during the dark days of the Virtual Boy and the WiiU. Both of which I held on to, until 2019.
I don’t even like 4K! It ruins the magic of movies and games. It makes it easier to see what makes these things work. Couple of examples. In 4K, I can see the layering that goes into animation, which makes it harder to find the worlds believable. If I watch a multi camera sitcom, it’s easier to tell that their on a sound stage, with a fake set behind them. I can tell when a scene is being lit, via a lighting rig. Or if a forest scene is done on a soundstage.
Things are feeling stale. From these companies own digital presentations, to E3. Remember the hype for a 50 minute Direct, earlier this year? How interesting did you find it, if you watched? I was bored about twenty minutes in. I don’t mean to start anything. I’m simply expressing my frustration. 🤷🏾♂️
When does the public get tired of these types of things? All of the remasters, Metroidvania’s, games that look like something from the early 90’s. Pokémon 🙄 (sorry! 😂). Things feel soooooooooo dry! It amazes me, the amount of units still being moved. The fact that Animal Crossing, dominated 2020, didn’t help! 😂 I’m seriously at a loss here! I’m starting to look at gaming like, “ I don’t get it.” 🤷🏾♂️ 😂
MEH! I’d rather it had gone directly to an actual person.
Edit: I posted my comment before I saw the others. There’s nothing heartwarming about Goodwill getting that money. I learned about them when I sold on eBay, a few years ago.
Just out of curiosity. Why write articles about the millions these companies make? Of course, we want to know about games. But, why also, the profits? I wonder how would gamers feel, if these types of articles were no longer published. If these numbers were kept behind closed doors. Only accessed by those who need to know.
These are odd times. I don’t see how any of the big three are moving the amount of consoles they move, every month. I understood for a while, due to world events. We are now in mid 2021, and things are feeling stale and lackluster. I don’t care how good the graphics look. How sharp the screen resolution. Being able to play anywhere. It all feels like one big “MEH” fest to me. 🤷🏾♂️ Especially the onslaught from certain genres. Sometimes I think, if I didn’t know any better, I would check my calendar to see if it was the 90’s. 😕
I’m sure there are people disappointed with the new Switch, but when you look at Nintendo’s history, where the Switch is today, it makes sense. I enjoy Nintendo staying out of the graphics race. Makes the industry a bit more interesting.
I for about this coming to the Switch. I’ll definitely check it out. I loved playing Journey on the PS4. It’s the one game that made me cry like Pixar at its height! 😂
@the_beaver my apologies. I guess I’m remembering the series wrong. I’ll admit, I haven’t played it in years, but from my memories, they were similar. Extreme G. Wipeout. Grip. Fast. If Mario Kart 64 was the last entry in the series, it would be more memorable because of its style. It’s like the 2D space shooters (I forget the name of genre) back in the day. I loved them, but their all a blur at this point.
Why are you guys so attached to this franchise, when there are so many options available? It’s an honest question. I don’t mean to start anything. I grew up loving racing games. I played a lot of F-Zero. I also played a lot of games like it. It’s not like this is a Mario Kart type of racing game. Mascots and things like that.
@Jey887 haven’t lived a family life in years. I would be kind of sad if my wife and kids had no interest. I mean no disrespect. Your comment took me back to playing board games as a child. I loved playing with family. Didn’t cost anything. No TVs involved (the 90’s) In retrospect, I got to see different aspects of my family members personalities. Who’s short tempered. Who’s most likely to to be a bit shady. Who’s good at paying attention. Who’s a good strategist. Now that I’m thinking about it, I would be a sad dad, if my family showed no interest in board games. I would probably guilt them into in on Father’s Day! I don’t want to go out and eat! I don’t want a tie, socks, shaving equipment..WHATEVER! I WANT TO PLAY BOARD GAMES! AND I’M NOT BUYING THEM ONLINE! WE’RE GOING TO A STORE! 😂
Based on nostalgia, Sonic 2. Based on a game that took what was great about the series and took it to new heights, Sonic Mania. It was the one time when it felt like Sega treated a Sonic sequel, like Nintendo would treat a Mario sequel. It paid homage to its past, while moving the franchise forward. No mood breaking gimmicks.
I used to play the old golf games on the NES. I never had an interest in playing Mario Golf. I don’t know why. Actually, I look at golf games today and wonder what’s the appeal. 🤷🏾♂️ 😂
I was interested in the original, but rarely had people to play with, so I never played it or any of the sequels. If this is good and the online is good, I might get it.
@QuickSilver88 I did a second play through, but stopped after half way, I loved it, but I was ready to move on. It’s in my top five, when it comes to modern days games. I’ll revisit one day. I was looking forward to a sequel, but when I read that the developer was purchased, and the corporation didn’t have a good track record, I figured a sequel will never happen.
Meh..:it’s not like there’s a lot to get excited about these days. 🤷🏾♂️ I’m not anticipating much from Nintendo. Just keeping my expectations low. I was hoping that E3 was the reason for the lackluster digital presentations we’ve watched in 2021. I realized that I need to keep my expectations low. If we get a lot of “TBA” or “2022” I won’t be disappointed.
I see a future where lockdowns are the norm. New strain of whatever, temporary lockdown. After all, a majority of us have been so obedient this past year. It just took some time.
Still don’t understand how quality of life improvements move systems. Have we been conditioned to except these things, due to smartphone and tablet upgrades? I’m talking about the PS5 and XSX. I was baffled by the hype. Teraflops and Ray tracing...🙄 I wanted to see a couple of titles that were must have exclusives. If a lot of E3 videos end with, “coming soon” or “coming in 2022,” “TBA,” I’m done. Everything is feeling so dry these days. 😐
@Mando44646 For me, the whole industry is feeling this way. I’m finding the next gen a snooze fest, too. Quality of life (hehe) improvements do nothing to get my heart racing.
@thesilverbrick why should they? When the public goes nuts for things like mini consoles. I agree with what your saying, but we (the public) except it.
I had no idea Sega had an indoor theme park, until recently. And I’m old enough to have been around for Sonic World! 😂 I watched a video about it and looked it pics. Very interesting vibe. I imagined this new place would have 3D (before I read the article). I see they have that and more. Putting on 3D glasses, at a theme park, is not a fun experience. It’s like the Mario Kart ride. Why not do something similar to the Cars ride?
Is it true that the NES redesign worked, without blowing the cartridges? I had two original NES’s. They both were pieces of garbage by the mid 90’s. I always wanted the redesign, because I heard you never had to blow the carts.
@ExtravagantLuig I have both downloaded. I’ve played a little of both. I prefer the Impossible Lair. Do I have to play the first game, in order to understand the second?
I don’t think I have a favorite. Not that I didn’t like the system. This article made me realize, outside of Mario DX, I don’t remember playing anything other than shovel ware. I had a Quest for Camelot game. That should tell you what I was buying, back then! 😂 I was using it for the upgrade and backwards compatibility.
