Oh thank God, for a second I thought FIFA 21 for the Switch sold well--
11,990 Copies sold of the Switch version of Fifa 21, placing it in 6th place
Is there a petition to destroy the human race?
Surprised to see clubhouse on there
Is Fifa 21 a good game? I have only heard bad things about it.
FIFA 21 Legacy Edition is #5 in the eShop charts in europe.
@CartoonDan The core game is good. It is just all the stuff from EA around it that makes consumers angry.
Animal Crossing has almost sold 2 million copies more than even Smash Bros. now. It can't be stopped.
Also, I wish people would stop fueling EA's poor practices. They don't deserve money.
@CartoonDan it’s fifa 19 with an updated roster. Fifa 19 is good so fifa 21 is good too, however fifa 19 used is like €10 and fifa 21 used is €55.
@darkswabber Thanks, so it should have just been an update instead of a whole new game.
@CartoonDan yeah. Salt to the wound is that the ps4, 5, xbox one and SX versions actually have new features and mode.
11,990 people got ripped off.
The people who paid 40-50 bucks for a literal reskinned FIFA game need to re-evaluate how they're spending their money. Stuff like this will only encourage EA to continually act like the scum of the Earth
At least Star Wars Squadrons was good
Because what else are Soccer/Football fans going to do if they want a game with the official leagues, teams and players? This is what happens when you have a monopoly on something.
Is it possible to be both surprised and yet not surprised that FIFA 21 on the Switch charted that high?
An exotic sight for the region indeed, but seriously, folks... every minute you spend bitching about FIFA 21 could be spent playing Captain Tsubasa.
So there are 15M+ Switches/Switches Lite out there in Japanese households with still "only" 5,8M Animal Crossing copies sold. I guess it's far from being over.
As for FIFA... 39K vs 37K for ACNH... now that will be over in a week.
We need to start buying PES to counteract this and maybe clubs won't sign exclusive rights to EA.
@nhSnork Ahhh a fellow NL user of culture i see.
Stop giving EA money guys. Anyway acnh will be #1 next week thats just how powerful it is
People are free to choose. That's why they've decided to spend their money recklessly on some full-priced roster update that pretends to be a full new game. It's their choice but if they prefer to give their money to a company that blatantly disrespects them and continuously rips them off, well, once again, it's their choice
I need to start selling something people claim to "hate"... I can retire in a week 😅
Can't wait for the $100 money grab race track to hit #1.
@echoplex
Actually, ACNH is well above 8 millions when you include digital sales.
@Agramonte Speaking of money grabs, I'm starting to wonder if the next generation of Animal Crossing will have 2 games like Pokemon, where different subsets of the 400+ villagers will visit each game, so people will buy both games. Not sure what the main difference will be, maybe 1 city like City Folk and 1 rural like New Leaf?
@rjejr
NIntendo tried to "Pokemon-ize" Fire Emblem by selling 2 versions of Fire Emblem Fates (3 versions if you include the Revelations DLC), but went right back to selling one version with Three Houses, which is now the best-selling game in the series.
So no, don't expect Animal Crossing to have 2 separate versions.
@Not-Geno Co-sign! I wonder if COVID has to do with its longevity?
@westman98 Didn't your argument just cancel itself out?
Nintendo can sell 2 versions of AC then sell the 3rd - see various Pokemon games and now FE - which will sell even more copies. Monster Hunter was sort of doing that for years, just w/ only 1 version then another larger version. Nintendo is constantly updating ACNH at no additional charge so far, not even amiibo and cards like ACNL: Welcome amiibo update, so I would think at some point they'd want to monetize AC now that so many people have purchased this one, Nintendo may think it's time to fleece the sheep.
I'd be more surprised if they didn't come up with a way to get more money out of people with the next AC game than if they just did 1 game, 1 price, no DLC again. I mean, practically EVERY game these days has DLC or a season pass, 1 and done is becoming the outlier. DQXI and God of War are the last 2 big exceptions that come to mind.
@BenAV,
Animal crossing is a beast, it will probably catch Mario kart 8 deluxe's worldwide total.
@rjejr
Nintendo could also sell 5 versions of Animal Crossing, raise the price of the game to $200 ($0.50 per villager, amirite?), introduce a monthly $50 season passes, and fill the game with $10 to $1000 villager lootboxes. That would make a lot of money.
Just because they can jack prices up for whatever reason doesn't mean they will.
@westman98 "for whatever reason doesn't mean they will.'
No, it doesn't mean they will, but it also doesn't mean they won't, either.
My original comment was: "I'm starting to wonder if"
Emphasis on "wonder", and "if".
@johnvboy i have been telling everyone in a lot of places, when Nintendo anounced by in July 30th, Animal Crossing New Horizons lifetime sales is at 22.44 milions units sold, in this Holiday season or at the end of the first half of 2021,Animal Crossing New Horizons is gonna be the best/highest selling Switch game.
@westman98 are you joking?Nintendo is not EA/Activision to do this kinda of anti-consumer act for it cliente, Nintendo aim to not follow this kinda of act.
@echoplex actually is around 8/7 milions units sold if you count the digital sales of the game.
@rjejr the gameplay format of the Animal Crossing franchise, don't fit this kinda of bussines decision of Pokémon of always releasing two version of the same game, the games of the Animal Crossing is designed for you to play at least one year, there people like that 89 year old grandmother that played her Animal Crossing New Leaf for 4.500h.
i wonder if Switch will still sell well with no sight of slowing down, even with the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?or Switch will have a consideravable drop in sales when PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is released?
OMG almost nothing can stop Animal Crossing New Horizons for becoming the best/highest selling Switch game, is impressive a niche franchise like Animal Crossing continue to sell well 8 months after it release, oh so Animal Crossing New Horizons is another Nintendo evergreen game?
@Giancarlothomaz "the gameplay format of the Animal Crossing franchise, don't fit this kinda of bussines decision"
Animal Crossing also didn't fit the game board model but Nintnedo released Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival anyway and everybody hated it and hardly anyone bought it.
So just because something doesn't make sense doesn't mean Nintendo won't do it.
You and the other commenter are probably right, they probably won't, but I bet it's something they think about - how can we make more money off of a game that sold, and continues to sell as you pointed out, so well? I bet we don't get another Animal Crossing game that is pay one price gain. Though I suppose they may make some more money from people paying for Nintendo Online, I just don't think there are may people paying for online just to play Animal Crossing though. We have the family plan so my kids can play Smash.
Either way, probably won't see a new Animal Crossing game for another 4 or 5 years. Who knows, maybe when Switch 2 comes out in 3 or 4 years they'll just port this one, call it Animal Crossing New Horizons Deluxe. 😉
@rjejr
There are many ways Nintendo could have monetized their games over the last decade ever since the rise of mobile gaming introduced F2P gaming and microtransactions + lootboxes + subscriptions in the early 2010s.
In the end, Nintendo chose to ignore those monetization schemes in favor of just selling $60 games with the occasional $20-$30 season pass or DLC (or in case of Animal Crossing, free updates). Of course, there are exceptions (Smash Bros Mii costumes, Pokemon Home, etc), but it's clear Nintendo are not intent on heavy-handed monetization tactics with their Switch titles.
And don't expect a new Animal Crossing game until the middle of the Switch 2's lifespan (i.e. 2027-2028).
@westman98 "Nintendo chose to ignore those monetization schemes" "Of course, there are exceptions"
So, how many "exceptions" are Nintendo allowed before they aren't "ignoring" monetization?
SSBU - Season Pass 1 $25, Season pass 2 $30, plus DLC that isn't in either season pass. At this point the DLC may cost more than the base game.
Luigi's Mansion - $9.99 dlc
Zelda BotW - $20 season pass, plus Wolf Link amiibo to unlock the companion
Splatoon 2 - $20 single player campaign
XC2 - $20 season pass (Nintendo owns Monolith Soft)
Several of the games that don't have DLC on Switch is b/c they already had DLC on Wii U that Wii U owners paid for.
MK8 - $12 season pass
Pikmin 3 - about $12 in separate DLC
Other Nintendo related games w/ DLC
Pokemon Sword & Shield
Hyrule Warriors on Wii U
Mario vs Rabbids (I know it's Ubi, but Mario is Nintendo)
Poken Tournament on Wii U, and even the Deluxe version on Switch still had DLC even after calling it Deluxe. smh
Nintendo has released games w/o paid DLC on Switch - Paper Mario, Super Mario Odyssey, ARMS, ACNH - but to say they choose to ignore it while so many games take part really seems erroneous. They're elective sure, but they've done too much to claim they ignore it.
Plus, they sell amiibo which unlock certain things in certain games that can't be unlocked w/o purchasing the toy.
And you now have to pay to play online. Sure it's cheap, $20 per year. But at 60mil Switch that is potentially $1.2B with a B. Nobody paid to play SSB, Splatoon or MK online on Wii U.
And then there's the mobile games. I think Nintendo learned it's lesson w/ Super Mario Run, no more $10 mobile games, just lots and lots of DLC here on out. So yeah, no DLC for ACNH but have you played Pocket Camp?

https://www.polygon.com/2019/9/25/20883283/mario-kart-tour-gold-pass-features-price
Nintendo isn't ignoring DLC, they've been slowly rolling it out for at least 7 or 8 years now - remember Nintendo Badge Arcade - and I don't see any reason to think they'll stop. They used to avoid it, now it's part of who they are. It just is.
Hugely surprising to see Switch Fifa in there.
@rjejr
Please read my actual comment in its entirety before responding with counter-examples:
"In the end, Nintendo chose to ignore those monetization schemes in favor of just selling $60 games with the occasional $20-$30 season pass or DLC (or in case of Animal Crossing, free updates). Of course, there are exceptions (Smash Bros Mii costumes, Pokemon Home, etc), but it's clear Nintendo are not intent on heavy-handed monetization tactics with their Switch titles."
I do not deny that Nintendo often produces DLC for their games. I also don't deny the existence of Nintendo's mobile titles, NSO, or Amiibo, since none of them are, ya know, Switch titles.
@rjejr you are comparing a mainline Animal Crossing game like Animal Crossing New Horizons to a spin-off of that franchise that no one wanted, Animal Crossing fans expected a mainline Animal Crossing game on Wii U, but they got istead a spin-off no one wanted, that why Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival sales is so slow, but i think in 2023/2024 se gonna have the next mainline Animal Crossing game on Switch sucessor, part of Animal Crossing New Horizons development team must be already starting the pre-production of the game, we don't need the entire 546 devolopement team to work on Animal Crossing New Horizons updates.
@rjejr maybe in Animal Crossing New Horizons do a DLC/Expansion Pass for the game adding like a lot of features people want in the game, like a second Island, so istead of doing a big update like the Wecome Amiibo update of Animal Crossing New Leaf that added a lot of intereting features, Nintendo could do a DLC/Expansion Pass that add a lot of features people want in the game, istead of doing a big update that add the things people want in the game, updates that add holidays events, wount be enough to keep the sales momentum of the game, Nintendo will need to add something big like Brewster or the highly anticipated Cooking mechanics with the depth of the Crafting mechanics/DIY system, to make people continue playing the game and convince others to play this game(after all Animal Crossing is a niche franchise, Animal Crossing don't have the Power a Mario games have to atrach people, the sales phenomene of Animal Crossing New Horizons is a exception, if Covid 19 dint exist i highly doubt Animal Crossing New Horizons would sell so well, with a huge possibilty of it surpassing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and become the highest selling Switch game.
i wonder if Coronavirus pandemic dint exist, could Animal Crossing New Horizons to the point it treat Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and could become the highest selling Switch game?if this happen it gonna be the first time a niche franchise like Animal Crossing beat the jugernaut that is the Mario Kart franchise.
Fifa...
and there is two of them...
. . . why?
@HotGoomba Only need a petition to destroy 11,990 people
@rjejr Remember you still also need a Season Pass for Pokemon... I mean "expansion" Pass 😜
Hopefully you still chipping away at Witcher 3
@Gus_Campos We don't want it spreading around.
@Giancarlothomaz @SuperCharlie78 Yes I assumed that. Still wondering why we don't have any more specific data on digital sales.
i wonder if Coronavirus pandemic dint exist, would it make Animal Crossing New Horizons sell well reaching a point that is treatining Mario Kart 8 Deluxe position and the huge possibilty of becoming the highest selling Switch game, i think not a niche franchise like Animal Crossing, would never reach it sales records without the help of the Coronavirus pandemic, without the Coronavirus pandemic, Animal Crossing New Horizons would sell 2/3 milions units sold until now.
@echoplex is because companies like Famitsu and NPD group only tally the boxed version of the game they are talling, is much harder to tally digital version of a game then tally a boxed version of a game, Nintendo financial breefing is gonna give us a better idea how it sales is talled between boxed and digital version of a game.
@Agramonte Still chipping away at The Wticher 3 (yes I knwo it' s2 weeks later). Normally I woudln't cosnider 3 hours every night "chipping", but for this game 3 hour blocks is chipping.
Have you played it? About 100 hours in I went to the last map location - not including DLC - for what I assumed was the final boss battle, but it wasn't, still lots going on yet, about 110 hours now. Getting close though I think, maybe another few nights? Either way I'll be skipping election night to watch my country burn to the ground and become a white supremacist dictatorship.
@rjejr I have, I think there could be a DLC I not played yet. Great game. And yeah 3hrs in W3 is chipping away (barely 🙃)
Well hopefully the white supremacist dictatorship (or the Liberal anarchist Socialist State) will still let me play PS5/Miles Morales come next week 😅😉
@Agramonte "Well hopefully the white supremacist dictatorship (or the Liberal anarchist Socialist State) will still let me play PS5/Miles Morales come next week 😅😉"
At the rate the vote counting is going - US must be a worldwide laughingstock at this point, pictures of gov't officials counting on their fingers and toes I'll assume - you may be finished w/ Miles Morales before we know if we'll be living in a dictatorship or socialist state next year. Though I still think burning it all down to the ground in the coming days is an option. 💥
@rjejr That picture made me laugh in the middle of a Zoom work call... 🤣😅😂
I think we been that for a few years now... not sure they can laugh any harder at this point. If they can burn the PowerPlants and Cheetos factories last, that would be great. I really want to finish Miles Morales.
@Agramonte "That picture made me laugh in the middle of a Zoom work call..."
It's 2020, laughing during a Zoom meeting is practically the least offensive thing you can do. 🤣
https://www.vice.com/en/article/epdgm4/new-yorker-suspends-jeffrey-toobin-for-zoom-dick-incident
I hope you get to play Miles Morales as well.
My post from PS regarding Sony only selling PS5 only online. I know you were in there but you got out early, smart move.
"And 3, maybe the past 3 days of rising tensions in the US which is being felt around the world made them decide they didn't want people standing in line fighting over a console while people are fighting over democracy. Rate things are going they may still be counting on the 12th. 😝"
I think Georgia just said they'll be re-counting until November 24. That dumpster is floating closer and closer.
@rjejr No anarchist outside my door and I have power. I think Looking good so far (No update on the Cheetos factories, they could be in flames)
The 12?... as you already noticed, my attention span is not that great. I already moved all my alerts to Black Friday deals.
Well they can always keep the dumpster fire going with all those MAGA hats 😅
One of the Mrs favorite bands.
@Agramonte I believe I typed the 12th b/c I believed that was the PS5 launch date but who knows what day, date or anything else it is anymore. It's 70' and sunny and I want to be outside but I already put away all my patio furniture for the winter.
Yeah things are still going relatively smoothly, I'm quite impressed. Once he either gives a concession tweet or just shuts up and goes away I'll believe we're in the clear. But so far they're still all running they're mouths. They just keep pushing, waiting for someone to push back, then they go nuclear. 10 more weeks*.
*10 more weeks until Biden is actually the President after inauguration.
