This seems like a pretty great game.
I haven't even finished Picross S yet so I doubt I'll ever get to S5, although the 30x30 ones could be fun. I enjoy Picross but just never find the time these days with so many other games on the Switch I want to play. I have been playing a little bit of Kemono Friends Picross here and there recently though so maybe I'll get back to the Picross S games next if I ever finish that.
Playing Super Mario Picross on the SNES app at the moment, quite enjoying it.
So never played a Picross game, do these play like Minesweeper? They look a lot like Minesweeper.
Sooooo ready for this! I have replayed all the prior ones on the Switch like 3 times each.
Can't get into these after the awesome 3D versions on the DS and 3DS.
@TG16_IS_BAE no
@jobvd Thank god. I hate Minesweeper.
@JohnnyC Same here!
More Picross is always a treat. I love that we're getting steady releases on the Switch.
I'd love to see 3D Picross make a comeback, but I'm not sure if that would work well without stylus controls.
When's the Sega picross coming out?! I been looking forward to that for ages!
@TG16_IS_BAE digital picross games normally have a decent tutorial that stretches over the first few puzzles, pixel puzzle collection is a free Konami themed one on smartphones (and it has great music), might be worth checking it out if you are interested. Be warned that they are super addictive if it does manage to get you hooked!
HECK YEAH!!! I really hope Switch gets a Picross 3D though (with touch support)
I like the S series...but really nothing beats the touch screen controls of Picross e series. It’s harder for me to go back to buttons.
I fluffing love Picross
Just about to finish number 4 so I cant wait. Great little game to play in short bursts, along with TENS as well.
@ralphdibny Thanks!!!
@SlowPokemon Yeah it's the only thing I don't like about the new ones. Switch has a touchscreen and there are cheap styluses that work on it for precision (Nintendo gave a bunch away with Mario Maker). There seems very little reason to not include it.
Picross S Series. My steady companion while in the toilet.
Just about finished with Murder by Numbers. Can’t remember if I bought S4 yet. If not, I’ll pick it up during the sale.
I have completed 1-3 and keep telling myself I need to pick up #4...this sale seems like a good time to do that.
Picross is the perfect "B" game while I play something else more in depth.
I haven't even finished the last one.
@SlowPokemon @Ogbert Even on the 3DS ones, I preferred button controls. However, I am with you. More control options is better. No reason not to include touch controls.
@TG16_IS_BAE It is more like Einstein’s five-houses riddle. You get just a few clues to start with. After filling in parts of the picture based on that info, that will lead to new clues on what should be filled out next.
Minesweeper has some of this same logic, but your first click is purely a blind guess (and usually some of the other clicks too). You shouldn’t need to guess on Picross puzzles. There is always logic that guides the way.
Like a jigsaw puzzle, your reward at the end is a completed picture. If you can’t stand jigsaw puzzles, I am not sure you will like Picross puzzles.
I bought S3 back in March. I love Picross. Even the 3DS game. But, after awhile, the puzzles in S3 started to feel like a chore. The rules aren’t that clear on how to solve the more complex puzzles. I resorted to using hints, which takes away from the fun, and even then it felt like guess work in order to continue. Whenever I got stuck back in the day, it felt it took clear and logical thinking to get myself out of whatever jam I thought I was in. Sad, because when I did play, it was a nice change of pace, when compared to other games I have.
What happened to sega picross?
@cleveland124 @ralphdibny I missed the announcement on Sega Picross! Sounds great.
Man, the Switch is a Picross monster.
I think I am done with Picross (for now). I've completed every single Picross game on 3DS (even the Hello Kitty one, don't be hatin' ), but I've only completed S1, S2, and the furry one on Switch, and I am in no rush to download the rest. I am frankly burned out and would rather be playing any number of the far superior games that are now available on the console.
I would love a new 3D Picross though.
@Tandy255 : That title rightfully belongs to the 3DS with at least 7 standard Picross games, a new 3D Picross, as well as Pokémon and Hello Kitty crossovers.
Have pretty much all of these since the 3DS era. Good chill out game to play before bed.
@JohnnyC @Max_the_German either of you down for some co-op?
It feels like S4 just released yesterday. Also... I guess it's too much to ask Jupiter to bring multiplayer (preferably online, either co-op or versus) into their S series of Switch entries?
Can't wait to start dreaming in Picross hints again.
Love these but it will be 50% off in a month with the rest of them so I’m afraid I can wait.
@Tandy255 That sounds way more appealing than Minesweeper, thanks for the in depth explanation!
I can't get enough of the Picross S series or Picross in general. So basically, get it to meh.....
A little late to the picross genre, I think that I actually played the 3D picross games on DS and 3DS before I played any 2D picross games. Would like to see more 3D picross. I have played and generally enjoyed 3 or 4 of the Picross S games, but like some others I'm getting a little burned out. I thought that Murder By Numbers definitely added some appeal with the story. PictoQuest was decent IMO. Would like to see more picross/rpg crossover attempts. May take a crack at Pixel Puzzle Makeout League on sale at some point.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I bought Suguru Nature since it was released for $2. Wasn't sure what to expect, but am really enjoying it now that I understand the rules. Recommended to any Picross or Sudoku fans.
@SlowPokemon
I love Picross and touchscreen is the most logical, immediate and intuitive way to play (IMHO).
But the devs for this series don't seem to see it like that. I'd love to know their reasoning.
So unless it's got touchscreen support, I won't buy it. I didn't buy the other S versions for the same reason. Shame, as I bought all their Picross games for DS/3DS.
I've created my own Picross games (for pc and mobile/handheld devices) in the past and it really is a doddle to add touchscreen support. It doesn't have to be touchscreen only, just have that as an additional control method. It's less than 10 minutes coding.
Fingers crossed that they finally adopt it for this next version.
And yet no touch controls?
