During this year's Game Awards, Capcom revealed Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. It's described as an all-new adventure in the series and is launching on 25th February 2021. Once again you'll be gearing up as Arthur.
Here's some extra information along with a trailer and some screenshots:
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is a reboot that brings the beloved Capcom franchise back to life and into the 21st century. Paying homage to Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, the latest entry combines the franchise’s action platforming gameplay with storybook-like graphics and challenging new obstacles.
The game follows the valiant knight Arthur as he runs, jumps and battles his way through eerie stages set in the Demon Realm, a demonic fantasy world. Brave knights will need to proceed with extreme caution as terrifying dangers await, including familiar enemies like Zombie, Skeleton Murderer, Pigman and Red Arremer.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is a nostalgic, yet fresh adventure that welcomes back its faithful fans, while introduces a new generation of heroes to challenge one of gaming's classic series.
Alongside this game was the announcement of Capcom Arcade Stadium. You can read more about this in our other post. Will you be checking out this Ghost 'n Goblins reboot? Tell us down below.

Was hoping to see him in Smash, but this is very cool too.
Ghosts and Goblins has my interest piqued. Didn't see that one coming.
@Toy_Link I'm trying to picture his moveset
The animations for the new Ghost & Goblins is quite off-putting for my taste.
Capcom Arcade Stadium sounds cool, I hope there are other studios like Namco that try out this kind of thing.
man i've hated this DLC setup for retro games since Atari Game Room, why'd they have to lock cyberbots behind this
I hope Capcom Arcade Stadium gets a physical release with all the games on the cartridge.
That art style for ghost n goblins😬😬
I wish they would have gone with a fully sprite based look...like Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts on SNES. That said, I’m getting this no matter what.
Does the Capcom thing make the Beat em Up collection obsolete then?
Since it's 2020, I'm assuming that when Arthur loses his armor he will be wearing a pink bra and panties underneath.
Soooo ghosts and goblins comes out the same week as persona 5 strikers and bravely default 2? Which is like a week removed from mario 3d world and a month before monster hunter rise... maybe change that date, capcom?
I hope JJBA: HFTF gets dropped on Arcade stadium.
I like the art style.
Yep. Full on hype mode for ghosts and goblins resurrection
Really hoping Alien vs. Predator and the D&D show up on this new collection.
Take notes Konami...take notes...
@KillerBOB
He likes what he likes and I am guessing that is what you like too.
@TheFullAndy
I like 'em on yo momma!!! 🔥🔥😂😭☠️
@KillerBOB
If you seen her you wouldn't say that.
Capcom Arcade Cabinet got seriously upgraded!
And some new titles got brought in:
-Progear (no longer attached to the plug-n-play stick)
-19XX
-GigaWing 1 (Mars Matrix, when?)
-Bionic Commando (original arcade version)
-freakin' U.S. NAVY/Carrier Airwing!!!!
-Forgotten Worlds (so I can practice taking back the WR)
-Trojan (figured that out from the little characters in the key art piece)
EDIT:
-Cyberbots!
-Mercs, maybe? Capcom used the same harrier sprite in one of the trailers, so possibly.
I'm so hyped right now I can't wait for March!
@Yanina There's definitely overlap, like 50% already, but I'm thinking that might be it. We'll see. (EDIT: Ok, five of the 7 games from the Capcom Beat-Em-Up Bundle will be available here from what it looks like, King of Dragons and Knights of the Round are absent)
I still play the Capcom Beat em Up Bundle every so often. If some of those games had online play that be awesome but I doubt it. I’ll still get it. And Ghost and Goblins.
19XX!! Whahoo!!! Been asking for that on Switch in my heart since the beginning!
But why no Eco Fighters?! 😭
Looks like flash game...oh well.
@Mr_Pepperami So negative... 😉
@Yanina I’m hoping that game packs are split in such a way to not force people who already brought the Beat-Em-Up Collection or the SF collection, to have to buy the same games twice to have access to all the games in the collection.
Buying this for sure.
This is cool, but I'd also love Capcom if they put The Disney Afternoon Collection on Switch. It's ridiculous how that game isn't on Nintendo's hybrid.
@masterLEON the game seems to be split into DLC packs, so I’m hoping that the packs are split in such a way that people who already own the separate collections don’t have to waste money on games they already have thanks to those collections.
Absolutely superb news. I couldn't be happier.
HATE the art style they chose for Ghosts & Goblins!!! Looks like one of those knock off games you'd buy for your tablet.
Saw Ghost N’ Goblins headline, was pumped, saw trailer, enthusiasm took a dive. It just looks second rate...
I hate that ghosts n goblins essentially looks like paper machete or cardboard cutouts moving around.
Good capcom. now how about giving me Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max , Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Ultra Street Fighter IV???
Debunked the capcom leak rumors. And yet something let to who pay attention.
@Kalmaro
Similar to Mega Man, he'd be a projectile heavy character. Specials would be based on the weapons you pick up (Bonfire, Crossbow, Triblade, Scythe would all be strong choices). Up recovery would be tough, but I'm sure Sakurai could think of something.
His standard attacks would include a few more weapon references (with his standard attack being the knife) along with some moves from the MvC series version of Arthur.
Final Smash would be the Golden suit.
And here I thought we will be commenting on Nier Replicant's announcement for Switch. Disappointed!!
Looking forward to the new GG (day 1 purchase), and some from arcade stadium.
@Elvie Agreed. Decade's old pixel art still looks better
I'm actually more excited for the retro arcade collection. I have the beat em up bundle but was wanting to get the 1942/1943 games and the other arcade hits from Capcom not on the Switch yet.
@Gus_Campos Put those together with some DarkStalkers games (not releasing that on DS was a dumb move in my opinion) and I'll throw my wallet at Capcom.
@KillerBOB I'm not sure Arthur shares your fetish.
GnG was an absolute stone cold classic favourite for me back in the 80s. Pretty sure this is gonna be a day 1 for me.
Now you can purchase Street Fighter II on Switch........for the 3rd time!
New G&G ?!? Yes please! What a nice surprise, thanks Capcom!
The art direction and animation are not impressive, but if the old school challenge is there, I'm all for it.
This looks like the PSP version.
This is great, nice to see the series revitalised. Q1 '21 for Switch is looking great:
Mario 3D World
Bravely Default 2
G'NG
MH Rise
At first the artstyle seemed to unfold to something very cool and intresting ( in about 0:08- 0:10) but in mere seconds it turned out to be like an awful looking mobile game
GOOD TRY ON THAT TAG LINE @Liam_Doolan but Knightmare is a Konami game, not a Capcom game.
(too bad it is not a well-known game. I hear especially the second one was basically the inspiration for the more popular La-Mulana. Though I only played some of the reportedly inferior Famicom version.)
As usual with these retro reboots, they sure come off looking good, but will the final product hold up in the gameplay?
Looking at the trailer... oh wow, that worm boss. I heard in the Genesis version it was actually possible to softlock your game on that thing.
This looks effing awesome!
YES
YES
YES
YES!
(And can I just say, I think I was the first person to call this hee hee! Come on, not every day I can say that, so let me have it!)
@NGNYS Oh yeah like AVP which they released eighteen months ago.
Bravo CAPCOM, it's amazing to seee this beloved franchise return.
@GrailUK I called this eighteen months ago.
@YANDMAN Shhh lol! (I wasn't really being serious, so no need for a competition haha)
I hope you have to beat the entire game twice just to get the normal ending lol. That was the most memorable aspect of GnG to me, since it's such a nasty move.
In a first look I don't quite like the new visual style, but let's wait for the gameplay, which is the most important thing in every game.
Anyway, although the article started saying this was a new adventure, the word "reboot" appeared soon after that, so let's see what it really is eventually.
Hmm, it doesn’t look great but I do love the series so I’ll probably get it. It’s a bit of a shame they’re homaging the first two games yet ignoring Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts.
It’s interesting in one of the screenshots you can see Arthur still has the chest part of his armour but the rest is gone, which suggests maybe you can take more than 2 hits in this game (or there’s an easy mode for this).
Yesssss, I love Ghosts ‘n Goblins. I have played Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins many times.
@YANDMAN of course you did!
Time for a heretical comment...
I hope there’s an option to allow a few hits before loosing the armour. The one hit always made me raise an eyebrow, like is his armour made of glass or something?
Oh my god, a new G'nG, totally unexpected and it looks gorgeous to me!!
Love this series since '80, day 1 buy for me
Looks really good. Never got to finish this on the mega drive.
Probably the only genuine surprise for me at the Keighley awards. Will probably buy when this releases.
This is great news! Ghosts n Goblins isn't just a series, it's its own sub-genre of videogames. I guess you could call it "horror shooting action platformer". There aren't nearly enough games in this series.
Ghosts n Goblins (NES)
Ghouls n Ghosts (Mega Drive)
Super Ghouls n Ghosts (SNES)
Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins (PSP)
Cursed Castilla (Switch)
Battle Princess Madelyn (Switch)
The last two are spiritual sequels, but they're Ghosts n Goblins through and through, and just as good as the rest.
And soon, finally, an official sequel!
Let me get this straight; Capcom is releasing a ghosts n goblins game that looks.....good?
They're finally able to make it more or less look like the old box art! Which is cool, but, yeah, it just doesn't look right in motion to me. But I was never a huge fan of the series anyway, so I'll just be happy for the people who ARE excited.
When the game comes out and you start playing it, I want you to remember this one very important piece of advice:
1. Get the knife
2. Get the knife
3. Get the knife
This is kinda cool news, not sure if I'd buy it day one, but I'll probably get it at some point.
@Rodan2000 Even you seem to know.
@GrailUK I was.
@YANDMAN I knew about the arcade stadium months ago, I commented on here a few times about it
@Magician Nope. Capcom's site says download only.
This looks really cool. I'm looking forward to it.
@MetalVic
Capcom has released several games physically on Switch, but in Japan only. Okami, Onimusha, Ace Attorney trilogy, Capcom Beat'em Up Bundle, etc. So...it's too early to say this won't get a physical release.
@KillerBOB love how obsessed you are on what other men wear under their clothes...you may want to discuss what this means with your therapist 😉
@IronMan30 omgosh THIS! How is a collection of games that originated on Nintendo consoles and sells directly to the Switch audience, NOT on Switch? 🤦♂️
Rad. Looking forward to this.
Looks fantastic, but the Snes version will always be king.
Glad this thing is coming out. Too hard for my soft hands. Would love to be one of those people who can complete these games but get to about the second level xxx
Yesssssssssssssss I want this game!
@Yanina Capcom Arcade Stadium doesn't include Armored Warriors, King of Dragons, and Knights of the Round.
@KillerBOB best comment in here and you are 100% right
I remember owning a 3D version of this game. I wanna say it was on the 64, but I don’t recall Capcom being very supportive of the 64. Maybe it was the PS2. Anyway, I remember it being too tough for me to enjoy.
@Moroboshi876 No, games can be fun AND look nice. Look, I'll throw down for the next 8-bit game that only uses three colors in it's palette if it plays well, but this remake looks UGLY. I don't care how fun it is, I'm not staring at that LOL
Wonder where this will be on difficulty?
I forget how hard the originals were and then they make me cry
Well slap my bum and call me Auntie Whispers- I’m grabbing this soon as it is released!
Hmm looks a bit cheap.
Ehhhhhh, I dunno. Looks cool, but the way dude runs is a bit annoying to me. Father Dougal vs. Goblins.
@somebread because they know people want to play it. If it was released as one collection you'd still have to pay for it. Alternatively, buy yourself a Japanese Saturn and a copy of the game should set you back about 130
Meh doesn't look great. But willing to try if I can find it in a sale for €5 or less.
Now, I'm not a fan of paper pin animation (it makes a game look cheap to me), but the way the it starts off hand drawn and then fleshes out into the game really suits. I hope every level begins with this kind of intro. Animation aside, it captures the previous games spirit and the gameplay looks very faithful. I'm old and forgetful, but I don't recall being able to shoot downwards before. That's very welcome and will alleviate the countless deaths lol. Can't wait.
Make it Physical cart as well if only Digital easy pass...
Man... I booted up the SNES game after this reveal. I remember this game being difficult, but DAMN!!!
The only other game that I actually MUST use the Rewind feature for is Ninja Garden on the NES. I think that this even had that beat, rust aside.
Might give this a GO, but I'll definitely need more practice 💯
@YANDMAN i'm down for a full collection, i just don't like this "packs" model
if I were to rank them: full collections > pack based collections > hamster style "every game sold individually for 8 dollars a pop" stuff
This looks like a terrible PSX game in HD. On top of that, no new modes or costumes or powerups. No multiplayer or online. Even the hackers added an overpowered Princess Guinevere to SGnG and Capcom is basically upscaling a cheap mobile game 😄
I just realized that this game's existence and release date confirms that huge Capcom leak that lists their next 4 years of scheduled game releases.
the PSP game looks better
@KillerBOB This really cracked me up more than it should have.
2020 and all,, I was thinking before starting the game, you would choose what gender is under their armor, and even have a slider to change "size options".
This looks great 😊
This looks amazing! I love Ghosts Goblins 2D games! OMG! Thank you capcom!
@somebread My point is it will equate to a full release price anyways. hamster are way over priced in my opinion for mostly very average games. The last time capcom did a colelction like this on the the 360 and ps3 it was £25.00 to buy all in one go, ...or £3.99 per game. Which makes the whole pack obviously great value.
Art style kind reminds me of children's book Where the Wild Things Are.
@Rodan2000 Ohhhh, are you the guy whose Dad owns CAPCOM??? saw this mentioned on a twitter feed.
@YANDMAN no dude, my dad is dead which is just where he belongs. I simply saw that Capcom filed the name ‘Arcade Stadium’ back in May, then a little further research revealed everything. It was initially supposed to be released over the summer but because of the Pandemic things changed.
