Update (Wed 7th Apr, 2021 16:00 BST): The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom has now been given a solid release date of 4th June 2021. A brand new trailer has been released to show off a little more of the game, so make sure to check that out above.
Original Article (Tue 24th Nov, 2020 15:00 GMT): Outright Games has announced The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom for Nintendo Switch, a brand new kid-friendly zombie game set to launch in spring 2021.
Based on the hit book series and Netflix show, the game will have fans jumping into an all-new story within The Last Kids on Earth's apocalyptic universe. It's said to boast "massive levels to explore and hordes of zombies to defeat", with four-player local co-op and online co-op both available.
Players can enjoy taking on the roles of the series' legendary heroes Jack, Quint, June, and Dirk, as they search for the missing pieces of the ultra-powerful Staff of Doom. The original voice cast from the Netflix series returns to voice their respective characters including Nick Wolfhard, Montse Hernandez, Garland Whitt and Charles Demers.
Max Brallier, the best-selling author, creator and executive producer behind the series, has shared the following:
"While the adventures of Jack, June, Dirk and Quint continue on the page, it is incredibly humbling and inspiring to see them also take on new lives through the animated series, toys, apparel and now a video game. I am extremely fortunate to be collaborating on the game with such talented partners who are helping my dream for this story come true."

Christ, kids shows have gotten dark haven’t they?
Sounds neat, but it's from the same guys that brought us Race With Ryan, so...pass.
I used to read the books, but I never knew they made a series on it. It didn’t seem the most family friendly book series for a kids show or game. They probably dumbed it down a lot, I’ll pass.
My son loves this series, so this will probably be on his birthday list next spring.
@WickedUnicarnBoi Yeah they did. My son loves the books but gave up on the Netflix show. There IS a great game lurking in the pages of that book, but I'm not sure this is it.
Looking forward to the Nintendo Life review of it and them giving it an average score when the game itself is downright terrible.
Looks pretty shallow...sad.
My two youngest boys love this show. I think Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts would make an excellent game. That show is fantastic.
@nessisonett You should see the back story to Adventure Time.
@Wilforce I love Adventure Time but it’s on Cartoon Network which has always catered to an older audience. It’s also mostly the subtext that’s dark compared to the episode-to-episode stories which are fairly light and breezy. This show is like a proper kids show and all the adults are literally dead.
Anybody else think they're trying way too hard?
Never heard of the series. Just reading this article gave me shovel ware vibes. Then I see the comments. I wonder if the developers name triggered something subconsciously! Maybe I’m aware of their work and didn’t realize it! 😂
@Jakiboy, they will rip it apart in the write up and then give it an 8 like most reviews.
Wait the staff that is creating Doom Eternal can make this physical but not a Doom Eternal game physical something smells rotten to the core here.
@nessisonett I mean, you're saying that like Courage the Cowardly Dog didn't come out 24 years ago.
It’s tragic to me that kids today are forced to wear masks all day or only interact through screens and plastic cages, while being fed dystopian escapism like this... the psyche of many children in 2020 just can’t be good... 😔
Looks like CN Battle Crashers 2, hard pass
@nessisonett Lol about kid's shows today. I couldn't agree more with your statements. My wife and I always joke about the shows we grew up on in the 80s being glorified commercials (Transformers) or propaganda of some kind (G.I. Joe). Outdated, potentially culturally insensitive, not inclusive/diverse by today's standards, etc. etc.
Then our sons (aged 7 and 9) discovered this show on Netflix and we burst out laughing. May as well make a "Walking Dead Jr." at this point.
Lets not forget this was orginally a book
Zombie is not really kid friendly thing.
Nowadays show just Blah in my opinion.
I miss early 2000's show.
@nessisonett
Billy and Mandy, if you remembered them from Cartoon Network.
I hate that cartoon.
Billy = Disgusting idiot dude
Mandy = Psycho Pokerface b****
Outright games usually make the lowest of the lows when it comes to licenced kids games so I'm anything but excited for this one
@NGNYS
Not every cartoon to games by Outright Games are trash in my opinion.
Actually i have some interest with PAW Patrol Mighty Pups video game.
It was like okay game i can pick just for curiosity.
@Jackpaza0508
In contrary, i'm waiting from Outright Games what cartoon to games that will be released and i can pick from them.
I already write 1 Outright Games in my buy list (PAW Patrol Mighty Pups).
OG games are not really bad choice for casual gamer like me.
Oh, also... Racing with Ryan caught my little attention too.
I'll pick this up for my son. We love watching the show together.
Why do you never include the price?
It’s annoying.
@mr12calvin
According to playasia preorder, the price is US$ 44.99 for PAL version.

why. why must this
@Zeeeus that game was actually good tho other than the fact it was offbrand super smash bros.
@Anti-Matter
Ah thank you. I appreciate that. I wonder why they never mention it themselves. €40.01 in Europe. That’s a pretty good price.
I might buy this on sale one day.
And gotta get my fan fixed first. After 30 minutes it just crashes from overheating 😒😔
@nessisonett We've reached the stage in civilization's development where all we have left to teach our young children is how to survive the zombie apocalypse b/c it's become inevitable at this point. "family friendly zombie apocalypse" Sure, why not.
@justpizza Smash Bros: A multiplayer 2D platformer fighter
The Last Kids On Earth: A 3D fixed-camera game where you fight enemies
What are the differences?
JustPizza: They're the same.
@streetzman I meant the cn brawlers game
@Ryan_Again Help I'm either at home or school and my Switch was taken so pray for me.
Somewhat interested in this, i would like it better if it was over the shoulder third person plus still supported four player local co-op.
Never seen the show or read the book but this has a bit of my attention. Boring, safe and lower end games can be great games too, ill take them over overly cinematic triple A games full of qtes or gimmicks. So many action games forget to give you a decent enough play box, multiple playable characters and the freedom to create your on action with friends I might add.
Look like it could be fun, if it gets its gameplay mechanics right. The animation and voice acting looks good.
@justpizza That isn't even similar to Smash either.
