I remember this not being received well by fans when Nintendo started it. It had to do with Nintendo being so strict on fan created content, in favor of these annoying influencers. Am I remembering this correctly?
I like the demo, but something stopped me from buying it. Do you have to be familiar with the original game in order to enjoy this sequel? I saw characters and obvious situations I knew nothing about. I would have considered the first game, but some of the stuff I read about it was a deal breaker for me.
@mr12calvin ok š Cause Iām tripping out over the fact that nobody seemed to pay any attention to them before I commented. Thatās why I was wondering if I missed something. š
Iāve been seeing people say that they have nothing to do, or nothing to spend currency on in the game? Do you really reach a point of nothing else to do in the game?
@sixrings When I play Mario Odyssey (docked or handheld), I find myself thinking, who needs 4K and teraflops. Especially the first time I saw the moon level. I always use that level as a showcase for the power of the Switch. Itās never failed to wow! Or revisiting the beach level later on and itās sunset. BEAUTIFUL!!!!
After seeing peopleās reactions to the PS5/XSX games, it got me thinking that Iām glad we have Nintendo in the game industry. I like the completion, but if Nintendo also joined in the teraflop race, it would be much less interesting.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. I thought I was about to get educated on Nintendoās version of āthe red ring of death.ā š
Now that Iām thinking about it, I donāt think they make systems like they used to. After the original Nintendo, from the next era up until the PS2/Dreamcast/GameCube era, I never had problems with my systems, outside of my Game Gear dying. After that, Iāve had every major console, except the 360 and PS4. Every one of them (other than my Switch) have died or given me problems. I guess the more complex the system...š¤·š¾āāļø
@duffmmann until I saw your comment, I forgot that used to think the same thing! š As years went on, I looked at it as something of an Xbox mascot. My memories of this franchise always starts with the hype of the first release on the original Xbox. First time I played an Oddworld game was the awesome Strangers Wrath (original a Xbox).
@Joekun Thanks for sharing! Itās always interesting to hear somebodyās opinion on their retro console of choice when itās one you donāt hear about often.
By the way, I watched a video review of SoR 4. It was my first time seeing it in action. Now I want it! š While looking at it, Iām thinking, this looks like a side scrolling Street Fighter Alpha 3 beat em up! I just bought the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary collection (on sale!) a few days ago. I also bought Okami, so Iām tapped out at the moment. But, I will be getting this game! š
@Joekun if you didnāt grow up seeing those Genesis does what Nintendonāt commercials! If the thoughts of BLAST PROCESSING doesnāt get your engine going these days, weāll then I feel sorry for you! š jk
Your retro system of choice is an interesting one. What makes you pick the TG16/PC Engine? Never had one. I always wanted one, I wanted to play Bonkers. I only knew one person that had one. Got the chance to play it and loved it!
@Joekun Iām also tempted to get SoR 4 because of the hype. When I think back to those days, Iām not sure if I preferred the SNES or Genesis. I think the SNES provided a more polished gaming experience. A testament to Nintendoās development style. But, the Genesis gaming experience felt cooler. I guess thatās a testament to their 90ās marketing muscle (Nintendonāt š). Also, the Genesis had the original Mortal Kombat, with BLOOD!!!! š
A part of me wants to say Nintendo, but I feel thatās only because Nintendo has endured the way they have over the years. We all know how Sega has faired over the years. But, when I think back to those halcyon days (Iām feeling a bit nostalgic now š) of the 90ās, Nintendo and Sega appealed to me for different reasons, but they brought me equal joy in the end.
@Joekun Whatās funny to me about your comment is that I grew up loving SoR and games like it. Iāve replayed a lot of these gameās over the years thanks to retro compilations. What struck me was how similar they all felt to me. Yea, there are things in the games specific to their worlds, but when you get down to it, it all felt like the same thing to me. While replaying those games were cool, I didnāt have the urge to finish any of them. Back in the day, I was always anticipating these types of games. I loved these types of games so much, I wanted that Mortal Kombat spin-off, Subzero Mission, or something like that. I dogged a bullet with that one! š
Holy cow! I had no idea this was coming to the Switch! I remember reading a review about this game out of boredom when it originally came out. Iāve wanted to play it ever since!
Edit: I jumped the gun on my comment out of excitement. I did a quick glance at the review before commenting. I now see that Iām thinking of Her Story. Iām still doing to purchase this game.
@TheLightSpirit As somebody who had consoles going back to the NES up until last year, you are not lying. As I (and my consoles) got older, I realized that they wear out. As a child and teen, I figured they broke due to usage. But, the Dreamcast, PS2 and PS3 (I bought two!) I owned told me otherwise. My Dreamcast would no longer read certain games. My original PS3ās power supply went out (pretty much same thing happened with my Xbox One). My redesigned PS3 stopped reading disc. My PS2 stopped reading disc all together. When I put a disc in, it sounded like sand was on the disc.
After having to move a couple of times in the past five years, Iāve decided to go all digital. Iāve sold my collection of decades worth of games and systems. I still had boxes and boxes of heavy books to move. While in the midst of that, I thought, itās official, Iām going all digital. I wanna be able to pick up and go with little fuss from this moment on.
I currently have an OG Switch and Lite, Xbox One and my for streaming only PS3. Iāve gone digital with my Switchās (what a pain that can be!). I sign up for Game Pass when I want to play games on my Xbox. I donāt plan on going back. Physical media has started to feel like burdens to me. I had over 1,000 games and movies. shudders I still plan on buying books!
I was lucky enough to score an OG Switch three weeks ago. I signed up for an online account a couple of days ago. I forgot about the free NES and SNES emulators. Once I saw what they had to offer after two (?) years of online...š How could they drop the ball after the Virtual Console?
If somebody has already mentioned this, my apologies! If Iām not mistaken, hasnāt Miyamoto said in recent years that heās become more hands off when it comes to development? During the WiiU era, didnāt he bring up this very fact and the press ran with it? It turned into Miyamoto is leaving and Nintendoās stock dropped. Didnāt that happen?
Edit: And, Miyamoto has said that he no longer swoops in and completely shuts games down.
@GameOtaku I think the artist could use a break. Behind these anime shows and movies is a dark, labor intense industry that cares nothing about the artist.
Itās been two weeks since I just so happen to go to a store that had just gotten a fresh shipment of Switchās. Havenāt regretted my purchase! Itās rekindled my love for games!
I would love a Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 port. I remember when the original game came out. This was at the height of my love for roller coasters. I stayed up for three days straight playing. Good times! I remember my heart breaking after discovering how broken part 3 was after itās initial release. By the time a patch came my excitement had greatly diminished. That was my first experience playing a broken game at released and having to wait for a patch.
@Aurumonado Wow! I can honestly say that Iāve never seen a comment like yours. Iām not trying to start anything! āŗļø I was just genuinely surprised by your comment. I havenāt played either game. Just read about them and gamers opinions.
I recently got a Switch. I want to get the sequel Iām passing on the first game. I love 3D platformers, but the reviews turned me off. As for the sequel, I enjoy those kinds of games, but something is telling me to pass on it. I think it has to do with what I read about the world map.
I just so happen to be at the right target at the right time a few days ago. Was able to score a regular Nintendo Switch while there to buy a Lite. Crazy thing is, I have a Lite coming in the mail. I was too impatient wait. I wanted to play it over my three day weekend. So I decided to go to one of only two Targets that had the Lite.
When I get up to the register, I tell the guy what I want. There were only three Lites in the display case. He ask if I wanted a Lite. It tripped me out because I only saw the three Lites. He told me that they had just gotten in a shipment of the regular Switches. I was like YES!!! ILL TAKE ONE!!!! Havenāt regretted my purchase one bit.!!!
@InJeffable why do you think Sony will leave the PS4 as soon as possible? Havenāt they always supported their last consoles for another couple of years? That feels like more of a Nintendo thing.
Somebody in the comment section of another article on this topic said that we need jokes in these uncertain times. This, after I said that the joke was bad PR on PlatinumGames part. Companies canāt play with consumers emotions. Not this way. This article (and a majority of the comments) confirms what I said.
@RiasGremory Understandable. But, it didnāt seem to go over well with people. A surprise drop on April Fools Day would been better than teasing people days before.
How is it that Nintendo all of a sudden have systems to sale in Japan? For weeks the numbers have been end of generation kind of low. Now the numbers are back up. Does Nintendo hold on to systems in a warehouse, then ship them for big releases like this? Are their manufacturing plants back up and running?
I loved the Mario RPG entry on the Wii. It feels underrated to me.
If this is true, I hope they treat this collection better than the last collection of Mario games. At the same time, unlike the other Mario games, these games havenāt been updated prior to the compilation release. So remasters alone may be enough for me to forgive a barebones collection. I hope they improve the camera for Sunshine. It kept me from beating the game.
I remember buying an XBox One a few years ago and being so annoyed. It was one of the sites that helped convince me to buy one. Only to have to shut down! It was as the only good site I could find dedicated only to the XB1. Look forward to seeing how it, and the next Xbox generation moves forward in the future.
I remember this game coming out on the GameCube. I remember looking at it as yet another reason to be disappointed in Nintendo. The GameCube is my least favorite Nintendo system.
