Time for the modders to rise

I do imagine myself getting the new console, but I've never been an early adopters of a console, Im gonna need to see some pretty convincing software for me to want to jump over.

Even with the switch I just got BOTW on WiiU and held off on buying a switch until the Links Awakening remake.

10/10 for me. I'm as a father, so the only time I play is on my lunch break at work, so handhelds are so important.

It has its flaws but I'm not here to criticize the thing on its anniversary, the good far outweighs the bad.

Well I suppose it was inevitable. The only way it could have been available is if they owned the games.

I mean maybe it was up for renewal and they turned down the contract since it doesn't get a lot traffic so they can use that money toward a more interesting game, or of a higher demand.

@Ulysses As a leftie, something that haunts me about the Wii era was the feeling that I'm always playing backwards, with the Wii remote in either hand never feeling quite right.

@swoose I totally agree I play my 3DS everyday just about.

The only place I stutter is Kid Icarus Uprising would work so much better with dual sticks. Those levels are so cool and trippy I don't see it having the same effect on an HD screen as it does on 3DS, but I'd like it to have a port or remaster.

Or even better a dang sequel haha.

I mean maybe they've been holding off on releasing the old old titles because they are gonna rerelease the upgraded versions like leaf green and heart gold?

I mean this ideally would have never happened. Not that it's the same but Nintendo had that skyward sword save glitch back in the day that you couldn't give an update over wifi, and had a janky kinda update on the Wii menu. I just know it's happened to the big companies as well, quality control issues.

I want to bring up that they are really eating the cost of the problem, giving everyone a new copy that already has one? That's really cool of them. And I'm sure costly.

LRGs feels like gambling to me, not because of quality, but quantity, and it freaks me out. So I've never bought from them, but as a potential consumer, it makes me happy to hear they do take care of their customers, if problems do come up.

I also love Warioland for giving us King Knights Quest in Shovel Knight Treasure Trove. Easily the most replayable of the 4. The card game isn't my favorite but the gameplay is to die for. I'm sure everyone here's probably played it. But it's worth mentioning in case there's an unknowing soul.

I've only played 4. I got some back log coming my way.

Ocarina of time, Everytime 3DS. But Majora's Mask, I have gone back to the OG but it's really only for the bosses and the mask transformations.

I'll probably replay Majora's 3D soon and refine my opinion.

@NeonPizza so this is all new to me, does that mean that the resolution is better? Upscaled using the meta quest? Or is it just a better experience that you can share with others since it projects to a screen?

@NeonPizza agreed 3DS is one of my favorite systems but the resolution was pretty poor, so seeing it on a bigger screen is cooler, and being able to share the experience is great too but super lame losing the 3D effect. I am a full blast 3D slider kinda guy.

I think the only people that don't like NSO are the early adopters who saw it in all it's not glory.

Now I think it's outstanding, a real steal, I've been able to try plenty of games I wouldn't have bought on virtual console.

Whatever they do I liked the community. Kinda like Nintendo life I can find people with similar interests, but it was fun being able to talk about a game that just came out, or share silly pictures with stamps.

Also the miiverse bottles from wind waker were a fan favorite of mine.

I see a Mario party mini game as a goalie on switch two using the two mouses as each hand.

I think Wii U wasn't a bad name, I understood first time I heard it, it was a follow up console BUT! I didn't see the E3 presentation and since watching it, I think that's where they went wrong. No where near as confusing as Xbox.

The numbering is a good idea, I just wish it wasn't. I just like all the quirky names throughout the years.

I would love a new mega man game but I never even picked up 11 because it just felt weird in the demo. So I'll just wait and see.

I've had a happy back log so I think I'll pick it up hopefully around the release date. I'm hoping to get plucky squire next month too, which is a pretty similar story to this with a digital release and then a later physical one.

I think if I were to do this with my kids I'd opt to play as Yoshi and have them pick their character and they can just ride my character.

Luckily my son loves Sonic so if we ever play he just plays as Tails (whom he loves more than Sonic) and loves that he randomly flies is.

Dang, I just miss the e-shop, never played online too much, I do miss miiverse with the bottles in wind waker. I've never jail broke any of my consoles so I'm good but I will say Pretendo is a classy name and seems to do a lot of good for a generation I'm quite fond of.

@LadyCharlie hey me too! So weird, everyone sings it's praises, I love metroidvanias, and I just couldn't get through it for similar reasons.

An underappreciated lil metroidvanias that I love on switch is gatoroboto.

I mean Nintendo is a lot of things but not getting a company that they license to, to sign an NDA, I highly doubt happened.

That's some high school, YA novel level of plot development.

Either they did sign some paperwork and lied, are really just pulling all this from their rears, or are partners with friends who gave them info and broke their NDA with Nintendo. Their story seems very sus.

@BringleWorkshop turtles in time is a classic, I've played both and own the SNES version and I think I agree with ya, never given that too much thought before.

@Not_Soos sounds like a fun project. I'd love to try it when it's done. I'll have to keep an eye out for your post on it, you know giving you however much time you need with it, I've only ever made like 10 or so Mario maker levels.

Since you have played both are they pretty similar gameplay wise and level design the only difference being the amount of players?

I don't know if it defined the generation but also really crazy that 2D Metroid finally got a brand new entry after like 17 years!

Fun article to make you feel nostalgic about the current Nintendo console generation. Crazy to think about all that's happened!

@BringleWorkshop where are you playing sunset riders? I've heard nothing but good things about the SNES and Genesis versions but cannot convince myself to pay like $120 for a game I've never Even played.

@gaga64 preach! Love those games but the special stages are brutal. Advance 3 has really neat ones but I have never gotten the last chaos emerald. Tough as nails. Good luck!

Something I'm getting from this statement is if it true then the blinky red light is just a speculation about what the window may be in the joy cons.

They could also have received some sort of specs sheet clarifying what it is but it felt worth noting.

It'd be kinda legendary thinking back on the time when everyone followed a fake console design for publicity.

I play almost exclusively handheld, so a big screen is cool, but I do miss the days of being able to pocket a portable. Not sure that'll ever happen again

I'm with @Zeebor15. It feels like either nintendo forgot to get NDAs to ask these companies or the punishment wasnt severe enough or something.

I do believe it's going to be a DS - 3DS kinda transition for sure. Lots of similarities between the two generations where people who didn't live through it in 20 years will be confused as to which was which.

Not sure how many people do this, but I play switch while on the exercise bike and I use them then. Outside of that it's either in the grip or on the system.

I mean the arcade games were the worst and they are on arcade archives.

@Bigmanfan for me if I were to complain about anything in Shadow Generations it would be that the level themes were so similar, I couldn't hardly remember what happened on which level that I thought was cool. So gameplay, I say they are spot on, but level themes, it'd be cool to get some good variety like the sonic generations half had. Or you know any of the classic sonic games that had great level variety.

I was shocked with mine, SNES online app with 31 hours! I've already read some YouTube comments and also from the article here I know I have quitters numbers.

I have done a lot of actual retro gaming with my GBA and the likes but I didn't expect the SNES online app to win.

Still my overall most played is Sonic Mania with over 160 hours. Not that they count it.

@somnambulance dude you got good ideas.
I will say that Capcom Zeldas are some of my least favorite though, I feel like there are too many forced side quests.
