@Porky another article on the site, that was posted in the last week or so, said that the og ran at 720 and this new one on switch runs at 1080. They also said frame rate on the og was 30, so technically the new version on switch should look better than the original. If I have time I'll try and find the article and post a link. But it was pretty recent
The cut scene with knuckles is lame but to be fair those little cut scenes were always cringe. The Amy thing with pushing her face was kinda funny? At least showed some character. So now she's just more boring, but I don't think any of us are playing sonic games for the story.
I'm ok with it no harm no foul except the weird grabs tummy animation.
@TheBigK there is a demo! I played it and I think it honestly looks alright, not ugly by any means, but I did find it kinda boring, glad there was a demo try it out. And in the demo I didn't see any frame drops but in all versions I heard plenty of talk about pop in.
When I hear Tee Lopes composed a game I pick it up. I didn't really like Berserk Boy, but I still picked it up sound track is way good! I listen to the Mania and Shredders Revenge soundtrack near daily. And have played Mania countless times (160 hours and counting) so grateful for Tee Lopes. Would totally go see him in concert.
@8bit-Man Ya terastallization (or however you spell it) made me really not want to try the newer games. I didn't play any of the 3DS games but the mega evolutions seemed cool enough, not sure how it affected gameplay but overall maybe just don't do any of that haha.
I'm only a few hours into Echoes of Wisdom and hadn't made the "gotta catch em all" connection. I like the idea, Pokemon has become disinteresting to me, I loved it growing up so I'd be happy to see an awesome come back.
That's pretty neat, hadn't heard of it. I feel like the DS Zelda games are some of the ugliest so it's crazy to see this and think it could have possibly looked better. Very impressive
I mean switch is at least as powerful as a PS3 I imagine ( got no clue honestly) and it ran great back in the day. Maybe the sonic half will act more like a port on switch and Shadow will need to be toned down.
My wife and I recently beat It Takes 2 and it totally deserves all the praise it's gotten, very well done, best couch co-op game I've seen in a long time.
@GregamanX you're making me think maybe I was too harsh! Haha maybe it isn't so bad, but I remember the lighting being crazy for sure in the cut scenes and pop in being nuts. I did only get through the first hour or so before deciding to see if I could borrow it from someone, so then going to PS4 was a huge improvement.
@Tipehtfomottob Well textures are pretty rough, and in cut scenes the models and lighting are REALLY rough, you'll see some frame rate drops, and tons of pop in. It just looks like watching Shrek before the final render, so I can't recommend it on Switch. It's a great game though! If you have a buddy with a PS4 I'd recommend it!
I've said this was my most anticipated game of the year but held off on getting it after the review. I normally don't think performance and stuff bothers me but It takes 2 on Switch to me was rather unplayable and I ended up just borrowing a friend's old PS4 to play it.
Plucky Squire I truly want to own. Hopefully it keeps getting better. Please let us know if it keeps getting patched up!
I think that the NSO+Expansion Pack family plan is a total value for me. We split it 8 ways so it's only $10 a year and it's pretty much a means of me trying out a lot of legendary games I've never touched, legally and pretty cost effective as well, to help me decide if I want to pick em up physically.
Without it I'd never have tried earthbound, the Donkey Kong Country games, gun star heroes, Beyond Oasis, Star Fox on SNES, Pilot Wings, Demons Crest, Shinobi, Contra, and thats all just in SNES and Genesis!
I also am not in love with N64 and already have the Zelda games on GameCube and 3DS so this is just a nice addition for me to try stuff out.
I hated NSO at first but once I got the family plan and reframed my mindset I've loved it, I wouldn't want to go back to buying the classics every console generation again.
Don't get me wrong if they'd offer it, I'm faithful to a fault and would totally buy Majora's Mask and Super Metroid and the like, and I would love more megamans and castvanias but with what we have I'm pretty pleased.
I'm excited for whatever they are planning to add, I'm not sure they are teasing anything crazy but I'm still looking forward to it.
I liked Mario party 4 growing up but that's about all I can say for the franchise. It's probably great but with limited time and resources I don't think I'll buy a Mario party ever again.
I mean I'm almost exclusively a handheld player but I use the OLED model. It doesn't make any sense to me to get a worse screen. I also don't have any lites or played on one but I imagine the smaller form factor is less comfortable as well.
Man I love this game, played it quite a bit, and loved the Dimensional Shell shock DLC too! I don't really stray from the turtles though especially since I know zero about the lure, but I'm so happy they are still supporting it!
@MirrorFate2 You aren't wrong, and I don't expect it but it is on my wish list. It's highly likely that if they did announce a new one it was also land on the more mediocre end of the spectrum. I try Superstars every once and a while to see if my opinion was wrong, but it just isn't anything great.
In the mean time I'm excited for Generations and the new Shadow stuff too.
@msvt I'd say so. I like 1,2, 3&K alot, especially 3 stand alone, but Mania just has so much to offer. Tons of zones, an insane soundtrack, 6 or 7 ways to play, depending how you count, and the encore mode with the DLC. Plus tons of unlockables encouraging completion. It's way good.
My best buddy tried it out and says he doesn't get it, so I know it's not for everyone, but what game is? Catch it on a sale, and try it out! Deku Deals says it pretty regularly drops to $8 so it's not too crazy an investment.
Sonic Mania is 7 years old, Please oh please let someone who cares do a 2D game. There are so many fans that make pretty bomb fan games.
Super Stars for me was a pretty big let down, whereas I have 155 hours in Mania. When it's good it's good. I am looking forward to the new Generations title but have a soft spot for the Genesis and Advance titles.
I've been so excited for this, glad to hear it has good reviews! I do have a great backlog, so I'm hoping to just wait to get my physical copy in February. Hopefully the switch release isn't super glitchy or anything.
I love my CRTs! I got a 11" and a 20" for a lot last year for $15. I love not having the black bars on my screen for retro gaming. Also the pictures look better and sometimes brighter? It's the weirdest thing. You can just tell these games we're built to play on those monitors.
I think that there should just be a red phone in their office for when times are getting hard where they can call Sega and say they'll make another Sonic game.
I wouldn't want to be stuck doing the same thing my whole life either, but it's hard to deny the love and craftsmanship of Mania. I'd love if they did another, and help pay their staff!
Not saying Sega is made of money, but at least they'd be putting that money to good use.
I mean, I know I'm not getting rid of my switch, but it'd be really nice! Especially the e shop and other downloaded games, id much rather not lose easy access.
Thanks for the update! Money already spent in my book. I've like never gotten a delux edition of a game but I might? Either way I'm picking up a physical copy. I'm grateful my backlog is big enough that I'll be quite content until February easily. Only thing is I am moving in December. Do we have any idea when you can't preorder anymore? I'd rather not put it off, I'm just not certain where I'll be next year.
I would try a demo. The game store I went to growing up had awesome terms working there whose opinion I really respected and they had told me that Epic Mickey want worth the time. But I never field an opinion myself, so starting to build one for free would be neat.
You know with them mentioning it every time it would make sense to me that they are going to have a direct that is about it specifically. Like imagine if the next direct the have they don't give the disclaimer and then they don't talk about it, people would wonder why they didn't "temper their expectations" that time.
Finally saved up enough to pick up a physical copy, hopefully it'll be here in a week or so. Good article, I think it's true that it totally makes you feel that moment of losing your innocence really well, for kids but totally brings me back to innocence as an adult somehow.
@rvcolem1 agreed, like when Kraid came back it was neat since last we saw him was in super Metroid (or zero mission depending on how you count it) but even then, new enemies are where it's at.
@MurkyDawn agreed. If I understand it right it sounds like Marvels What if series. So I'll probably only tune in to the megaman episode. And maybe the pacman one.
I don't think I've ever noticed this game before, but from the trailer I don't think it'll be added to my library. I bet it's rough making a game solo for 6 years. Just unfortunate that it isn't a product I'm not interested in.

@N8tiveT3ch outstanding point. I doubt it'll ever be remastered but they better fix that if they do haha

@Samalik ? I know there was something on DSi (I didn't have one) I thought it was just a port of the GBA game?
Re: Poll: Sonic X Shadow Generations Is Out This Week, Will You Be Getting It?
Do I want it yes. Am I scared for a switch review, yes. But I'm trying to stay optimistic

@Ulysses that sounds probable! Crazy that for 3D all stars nintendo didn't do that with Mario 64 but rare did for one of their N64 titles.

@batmanbud2 I had no idea! I'll have to try it out. I guess I haven't played it on there!

How the heck did they get it in wide screen? What's a guy gotta do to get that on all the n64 titles?
