I'd never buy a full NES or SNES, there's no real reason. Those games have been pretty much perfectly emulated and the Mini series fill that void completely for me.
Now for N64 I would certainly buy any device that's reasonably priced and allows me to play N64 games perfectly running in a modern TV, specially if it would let me play the actual cartridges I still own. To my knowledge, such a device does not exist, N64 emulation is still subpar to say the least on too many games, and hooking up an actual console in a way that looks good enough is expensive and still doesn't look that good.
I don't know why, but I really like low poly racing games, I'm definitely putting this on my watch list, as I enjoyed Horizon Chase, but I felt the need to collect stuff while racing really detracted from the fun. This one looks to focus more on actual racing, as it should IMO.
EDIT: unrelated, but this game also reminded me that Cruis'n Blast should be released for Switch. It's so much fun in the few arcades I've seen it in.
Maybe I'm dumb, but after watching the trailer and reading everything, I still have no idea how one actually plays this game, specially if there are no peripherals required. I can't imagine using controller buttons (and sticks maybe?) as being particularly fun for a rhythm game, at least it definitely wasn't in Donkey Konga, last such game I played with buttons.
I don't like Smash, but I would loose my mind over it if any MK character appears in it. Not to mention, it would be the first time an MK fighter gets to fight an SF character officially. That alone would be history for us old school fighting game fans.
@inenai If you are a game developer, there's a couple of particularly interesting quotes I suggest you read up on:
"Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game."[...] "The greatest danger is that once a player discovers such an exploit, she will never be able to play the game again without using it – the knowledge cannot be ignored or forgotten, even if the player wishes otherwise."
@MasterGraveheart It doesn't need to be a competitive game to have game breaking exploits. A game like this depends heavily on playing a certain way. If there was a way for people to exploit the system in ways that gets everything fast or right away, then the experience can be ruined as I'd have less incentive to play "the right way", and a game like this depends heavily on that. Why would I bother going through all the process if even on the back of my head I knew there's a way to skip past them? Having a way to easily restore your progress is something that in reality only a relatively small part of the audience will need, but which at least in theory opens up many potential ways to exploit the game to everyone.
I don't necessarily agree on whether Nintendo's method is the best way to handle it, but I understand that they want to protect the experience of the game. It happened to me somewhat with BotW, where very near its release people started posting ways to exploit stamina use, making it pointless for me to bother with stamina recipes and the like as intended.
I still don't understand why people need movie reviews. All you need is a simple premise to know whether you want to watch something or not. Just watch it if it interests you, you'd lose a couple of hours at most. All reviews do is spoil and/or predispose your enjoyment of it based on someone else's opinion.
Saw the title, and came to the comments expecting a bunch of comments blowing a non-issue with little to no information way out of proportion... Was not dissapointed.
@LegendOfStewart I'm not ready either for everything being cloud gaming, but there is a good case for it. These days there's just way too many games, many of which a lot of people will only play once or for a period of time, just like a TV show or a movie. Then each of those games get bigger in size each generation, and they all require expensive machines to get the best experience.
So while personally I will always want my Nintendo games physically in my devices because I know I'll want to be able to play them right away at any time (plus the nostalgia/collector aspect), I like the cloud gaming option for those games that I know I'll only play for a while, like Tomb Raider, the Arkham series, or any of the games I have enjoyed through GamePass for just a period of time, which is a really convenient way be able to keep up with new games. Specially now having tried the new Nvdia Now service which works really well.
For me gyro controls makes a world of difference. Since I also have an Xbox, for Doom Eternal I'm seriously debating on which platform to play it, as while the Xbox build will look better, but I just can't stick aim anymore, gyro is the only way a shooter is fun for me, specially in Doom where enemies move a lot and are very aggressive. So I'll probably choose Switch, as both Doom 2016 and Wolfenstein looked good enough for me.
Aside from gyro, just being able to pause and resume a game right where I left off in literal seconds means a lot in my ability to play them.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the point in these consoles that play old cartridges. I would assume those who care enough to still have those cartridges would already have the means to play them, and I would think they'd even prefer the original hardware experience.
The only exception I see is the N64, because it's either painful or expensive to play an N64 in a modern TV.
More importantly, they added the classic Skarlet skin and will be adding the other female ninja classic skins, which finally gives us something worthwhile to spend time Krystals on.
@ShaneReactions I got the Skylanders ones when Toys's R Us closed down, you could buy the full games with all the included toys for like US$5 each (Wii and Wii U games). But I just checked on ebay, and while not as cheap as before, they're still relatively cheap for Amiibo prices.
I have no intention to play this game because I don't have time for it, plus it's coming to GamePass soon if I ever do, but I'm tempted to buy the Switch port just because I want to support the amazing work these people have done.
I have 109, and I have around 30 in my to-buy list for when I can find them at a reasonable price, plus all the unreleased Smash Amiibos for characters I like, such as Banjo and Terry Bogard which I'm dying to see.
@Rodan2000 > the golden age when games could still properly wow you, before everything was plastered on the internet
I hear you. These days there's spoilers plastered everywhere even before the game is out, from guides to final boss, endings, etc.
But I learned with BotW you can do something about it. I completely avoided absolutely everything that was not an official trailer from NOA before release, because sometimes the Japanese trailers have extra details (apparently aren't as bothered by spoilers). For example, a Nintendo Japan trailer showed the dragons before the release. I had such an amazing experience because I went in as blind as possible that each of these things was a surprise; I now do the same for every game I'm really excited about.
I played through Gears 5 (Game Pass is awesome!), but didn't make this connection, maybe because I only played single player. Having read this, I think Jack is more of a "Cappy" from Odyssey character wise. This is the best version of Jack yet, all the way until the end
Yeah, this is why I stay away from twitter and the like. There's always a group of people making a huge drama about something, as if their "campaigns" mattered. And worse when it gets people jumping on a bandwagon without checking their facts.
I don't care about about Pokemon at all, but I hope this doesn't turn out like the stupid MK11 microtransaction hate bandwagon that got a lot of people riled up about a non-existent issue that some individual made up based on wrong data.
I think the new design is as good as it can be, great even. There's no way you can make those joined eyes work in anything other than cartoons and comics. IMO he shouldn't be saying these things, he's just giving fuel to a mob of "fans" that just need a little spark to start complaining about anything.
@smashboy2000 I'd love a Marvel collection as well, but due to Disney/licensing that would probably never happen, plus at least many of those games have been available at some point on recent consoles, unlike Capcom vs SNK which was only on GCN, PS2 and Dreamcast.
I have almost all Marvel Vs games I like to play in my 360, the only exception is X-Men Vs Street Fighter (I love playing against Apocalypse!) because it was never released after the PS1 era.
I understand why they did it, but I think it's kinda of a cop out. Mai has only been over sexualized in more recent games, but I remember playing FF2 and FF2S in the arcade as a teenager and I never thought "wow, this character is naked". They could have easily had her in the background, just not put her her in the more revealing poses and versions of the costume that she gets in later games.
@Boring-Ol-Steve Thank you, your comment restored my faith in this community. There's just too many opinions here that don't understand how game development (or just plain software development works), or what having stretch goals means. It's not just that porting to Switch requires that much money, it's that also having a Switch port in development concurrently before launch requires additional resources.
@neufel That's my thinking too. It has been said multiple times that sometimes the files are bigger on Switch to avoid the overhead of decompressing them on the fly.
@Nagi Super Metroid on the SNES app made me realize just how bad the "Pro" d-pad is. I can't wall bounce at all, and I can do it effortlessly on every other console I own that game.
@Woomy_NNYes That's a good point, I've never thought of that. Personally I don't mind the wait at all, but I know it's the one thing you can count on getting mentioned every time there's an update

@Zeldafan79 To make the Krypt run better on Switch, they'd probably have to modify the code and assets in a way that would make it a completely different branch, meaning a lot more work needed to continue supporting it.
