To tie in with the Switch's third anniversary, Nintendo has released a system update for its beloved hybrid device. As we're in between major updates, the focus is exclusively on stability improvements – so don't expect much.
Below are the full patch notes for Version 9.2.0 (Released March 2, 2020):
General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.
To manually perform a system update, open the system settings menu, select 'System' and then select 'Update'. The firmware update before this was in December last year. It featured stability improvements and resolved an issue linked to the Joy-Con.

We all need stability some times.
Folders, wallpapers, media playback when?
Guess we aren't getting V10 for at least another couple months.
@Maschinenmensch never, ideally
Need some more stability?
Can I have some ketchup with that?
These small updates are the perfect time to add minor things, like more user icons. It still baffles me why they don't. I'm still shocked we don't have any Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Smash, Luigi's Mansion, etc etc icons to choose from.
Doing so would stem the comments/complaining about stability updates and be a nice little snack to hold us over until bigger updates.
maybe version 9.2.0 has some hidden features that will be useful in animal crossing. or will we have to wait for version 9.3.0
In other words we have updated to stop Home Brewing....... OR better yet we have allowed users to now backup their saves data to PC so they don't loose the data...yeah we should keep dreaming.
But wheres bayonetta 3? Ah just kidding!!! Where's the direct?
What is the point of updating the Switch?
Improved stability is something you can never have enough of.
The system is such a good stable that Dorte can rest there
Ahhhh I remember these. Stability updates.
Happy birthday switch. Growing up fast. Baby steps but growing up fast
Mmm, stability.
It smells like.....justice.
This is the thing I need more than Folders. Stability.
Has anyone's user experience ever been enhanced by these updates?
Sony had same PS4 updates for ages.
Meanwhile, Microsoft adds new stuff on every new firmware.
Americans vs Japanese....
It gives me more stabilityyyy
@Ventilator When your in last place by a million miles...you better do something. That company is so weak.
These stability will protect me from the Corona virus.
My life is so unstable. Thank Hylia for Switch!
Nintendo: Nope, still not stable enough. This needs to approach 3DS levels!
Full patch notes:
-Fixed sharing screenshots and video captures to Facebook.
-General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.
All meesa wants are folders added. That's all. It's getting ridiculous trying to keep everything organized with all these games coming down the tube.
Has anyone stopped to think that maybe Switch doesn’t have folders and themes because it’s simply...not yet stable enough? Moooore stability!!!
Man how stable can it get? The switch isn’t exact extremely feature rich.
Came for the stability jokes. Stayed for the hate against stability jokes.
@SwitchForce In this case, homebrew seems to be unrelated. A fix for homebrew is being released later today because some offsets were changed for unrelated reasons.
@Maschinenmensch Folders are unstable, wallpapers are really unstable, and don't even get me started on media players.
bashes head against desk
Cant tell if stable.
We stable boyz!
Let's see if this works with grandia 2.
Nintendo system updates improving stability is sort of comforting...when everything else seems to be wildly changing, Nintendo can always be relied on to make their consoles more “stable”, whatever it means. It’s nice to have that consistency.
I was all excited about updating my Switch, but then quickly realized that I had a hissy fit and shattered mine against the wall with Smash inside. Luckily, I kept the game. However, this means I have to buy another one along with the DLC again.
Reason why? I hadn't sent my Left Joy-Con in for a fix because of the Drift, and because I was so mad and didn't take medication for my episodes that I took it out on my Switch instead. I wish we could turn back time to prevent that from happening, sadly, we don't have that power.
Stability. Another port from the 3DS. I’m fed up with Ports
Folders might be nice, but themes really aren't necessary and may serve to slow the system down.
@Gerald Best stability joke yet. Bravo.
I wonder if the system stability improvements are to catch up with the changing needs of game engines so that newer games dont crash. they must keep up with developers as things go
@KingBowser im very sorry this happened to you, overwhelming emotions are very painful and we dont always act in the best ways when we are blinded by them. i hope once youre back on meds that things can mellow out for you
ive been having a rough time lately too, and youre not alone. all things can be repaired, even you with time
wishing you the best and sending love your way
unless you were joking in which case im sorry, im not the best at reading that
My switch has so much stability that it can resist the law of gravity.
@SwitchForce homebrew is bad how?
@PickledKong64 depends homebrew to pirate games from the eShop is bad but homebrew that can backup save data to SD card is pretty good 👌
@somebread Why would it be ideal for that to never happen? I can understand that some people have no interest but them being added wouldn't hurt anything.
Can confirm, my user experience has been improved
At this point the Switch is more stable than my relationships
@KingBowser or you could make a conscious decision and NOT throw or break things in anger...
@somebread why don’t you want any of these things?
@PanurgeJr you clearly never had the pleasure of having things organized neat and tidy in your life, have you?
Skipped the “article “ and we straight to the comments for stability jokes. Where they at?
@Maschinenmensch I am a Nintendo fan. I am legally and morally obligated to comment on stability every time a system update is available.
"Need some more stability?"
All I need are more lame NL stability jokes. 😑
@Heavyarms55 I'm actually surprised that theae Icons don't come with the games somehow. I mean, it's a small graphic with a small file size, so it can be easily shared in online games. If I remember counter strike or any other half life mod, you could import your own spray paint and it was visible for everyone.
So why not let the Devs of the Games create user Icons and make them available with the Game on the card or download?
Putting this here for old time sakes:
@mazzel From what I understand, they used to be added in a different way from updates, but this was changed because modders were putting NSFW and even just outright pornography into the systems as icons. Nintendo blocked this by locking the icons to the update system somehow.
At least that's what I've read. I do remember when people were putting custom icons in, and I saw a couple... questionable images pop up.
@shinesprites I was actually being serious. This actually happened. If I had common sense and just called Nintendo and told them that my Joy-Con wasn't working (since October 2018) I would've probably got them fixed for free if it was okay if the drift didn't happen till a little over a year after I got my Switch (August 2017), things would've been better if I had done that, or listened to my mom and just bought a second pair of Joy-Con. Yes, she actually insisted on me buying another pair, if it was kinda worth the $80.
I haven't updated yet. I haven't been in the mood to play anything in the past couple weeks. For as much as I've played since the Switch came out, that's not a bad thing. I'll get to it as some point.
@PanurgeJr sure jan, sure.
Nintendo really oughta run a farm.
Cause they seem to really love their stable updates...
@Maschinenmensch unnecessary outside of folders
Had the update. No noticeable changes (just relieved not bricked my switch as was in a dock overnight!)
Awesome update Nintendo! Exactly what we needed!!
Good job, 👏🏾
"To tie in with the Switch's third anniversary..."
Massively under-rated opening line.
There’s plenty of stability jokes in here, we need more crying about folders and themes to balance it out and make it a perfect update thread. Come on folks, don’t let me down.
At least Nintendo are acknowledging the flimsy kickstan- oooh the other stability. With ya.
My switch is going home to Nintendo today. Put a huge scratch through the blinking screen Sunday. Nintendo want in the region of £150 to repair it
@Welshland no screen protector?
@sanderev; no! and the worst thing is I keep telling my children to put a protector on their phones. I have 1 ordered with Amazon for when my switch is returned.
@mesome713 nah, they’re doing a good job with gamepass. I think that the Xbox is a better system than the PlayStation at this moment. Of course Switch is the best of these three 🙂
Will this finally put an end to my mental instability?
I've never had a problem with stability updates apart from the name. Would prefer if they came out and actually said what the back ground fixes where or just full on said sometimes "anti pirating measures." When they say stability it means nothing to the end user. Still have hopes update 10 will be the big one with actual features for the end user. I would love something other than black and white themes. Hell would even take grey as a third option at the moment.
Please Nintendo, add some new user features to the system, Switch has 3 years now and it deserves more!
For example, add a dynamic theme mode that changes UI colors based on the Joycons connected.. Wouldn't it be cool?
@DeusX Not everyone connects JoyCon to the system
I’d be more stable with a proper direct
Gonna have to start boarding some horses.
***** Today, least we forgot, is the 3 year anniversary of the Nintendo Switch's release date – and we still have no folders and themes! *****
At this point it is blooming ridiculous.
Yes there are real issue in the world and this isn't one of them, but still – come on Nintendo! – are we to wait until the consoles waining years for these simple to implement features?
I've never been more tempted to join a pitchfolk mob and surround the Nintendo headquarters.
Who needs folders, media etc when we have stability
This patch adds the ability for a Direct to occur next week.
@mesome713 So weak that they have the best console service ever. the underpriced Game Pass.
Sony did most for gamers last gen, because PS3 were #3 nearly all the time. Sony is never as good when they are arrogant.
Next update would have been 10.0. So Nintendo released 9.2.0. And it does b****r all.
I thought Switch is pretty stable now. My never fall out from docking and I don't think it will anytime soon.
If you loosen the screws and hit up, left and right twice on the right stick Epona jumps out of your beloved switch because ya know...
The switch is so Stable!
@CodyMKW exactly. Also homebrew used to run android and emulators are alright if you legally own a rom or only use roms for games you own
I hate Nintendo so much this year. Their absolute silence this year is infuriating. I want to know which games are coming out this year at least through the summer.
Everyone's complaining this isn't a bigger update. I agree. But does anyone remember the Online Play Invites feature from 9.0.0? Which still isn't supported by any first-party titles? 10.0.0 will probably be just as underwhelming. Maybe someday we'll get more icons, and themes, and folders...
Just. One. Folder. Please, Nintendo...
Lol the PSP had better menus and more system features than the switch. Nintendo should be ashamed of how backwards their online service and menus are. Especially for a system that costs $300! Honestly, who is running things over there? This current switch set up isn't even on par with the original xbox live infrastructure. Like come on Nintendo, stop being retarded.
@Heavyarms55 Icons should be installed alongside the game. The only reason I could see that not happening is for security reasons.
@PickledKong64 homebrew is bad how?
If one doesn't know then it's one's own loss.
Example violates EULA and voids Warranty-no repairs no fix.
@CodyMKW depends homebrew to pirate games from the eShop is bad but homebrew that can backup save data to SD card is pretty good 👌
Doesn't depend where did that come out of left field at - HomeBrew won't run or save Switch games anymore so this reply is misleading at best and also Voids your EULA and Warranty. Not everyone can put out 299.99 everytime.
@sj33 In this case, homebrew seems to be unrelated. A fix for homebrew is being released later today because some offsets were changed for unrelated reasons.
I doubt you know that at all if you did please tells us how-love how people talk something they don't know about what's really inside the Switch updates.
@Ventilator You know there's a problem in your OS when people actually want to remove stuff from it rather than adding them
I just recently got the new Xbox dashboard, and I love that I'm FINALLY able to remove mixer and anything else I don't want from the home.
@Maschinenmensch coming with the "New Nintendo Switch" with 2 and a 1/2 exclusive games.
@nab1 Yes. Mixer, Store, and Communities were the first thing i removed on the main page. lol
Microsoft is even removing Live Tiles in Win 10 now, because they are useless.
Now i'm waiting for Valve to remove the annoying "What's New" on Library screen.
There is like 1 million people who want to get rid of that.
@PokeNas Ohhh you.
That's a funny way to spell "Folders"....
@SwitchForce I can live with that.
@PickledKong64 I can live with that.
They say that until it breaks the Switch and then file a claims with NIN warranty and then wonder why they are being charged 299.99+tax for replacement. If one has that amount of money then by all means do so but don't tell others to HomeBrew if your not going to replace their damaged Switches. Once I tell them that they back-off pretty fast from saying how good HomeBrew is.
It's still annoying Netflix won't release an App, but at least I can watch a ton of movies I purchased through the YouTube App.
@Maschinenmensch never
@SwitchForce lol why tf you getting so mad. If your going to homebrew you know the risks. I have 2 switches too. A normal one and a homebrewed one. Lol I love how mad you are cry some more for me please
@Heavyarms55 putting porn there of course is bullsh*t. I think similar things happened in Splatoon.
My point is, instead of providing the icons with the system update, they can just provide them with the game. If someone using an icon of a game you don't own, it will quickly be downloaded from the other player. Shouldn't be a big deal...
I think we've got a perfect balance of posts in here now, brilliant....
@SwitchForce You're reasoning here is really weak.
Nobody attempts to hack their consoles without knowing the risks involved.
Anyone who does will quickly learn how the world works.
@Maschinenmensch cool
The stability jokes are old now, it's time for game journalists to ask what updates really do instead of making jokes because of a lack of information.
My Switch is so stable, it won't come out of its dock.
I can't believe Nintendo still advises us of "stability updates" with a straight face after all the sh*t we give them 😄
