Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask At 20 - The Enduring Appeal Of Nintendo's Strangest Game

@mesome713 I like hard challenges, but this one to me was more frustrating to repeat than hard, because they are so long. You had to be careful but you also had to be fast, and the first time through you didn't even knew the layout, so you could spend a few cycles just getting to know the environment. I think it all comes down to the timer, which was unnecessary. I hope if the game is re-released, they just remove the timer and it should be fine, if these sections just focus on stealth and exploration.

@mesome713 Skyward Sword could be one of my favorites too, but the silent realm segments ruined it for me. There are two things I generally dislike in games: arbitrary time limits and insta-fail stealth sections. The silent realm includes both. Also, Having to beat that big boss over and over again doesn't help either. Because of this, SS is the only Zelda game I've only played once.

But aside from that. SS is such a wonderful game and one of the best Zelda stories ever IMO.

This would have been one of my favorite Zelda games, were it not for the dungeons. I hated them. The first one isn't bad, just very boring. The last 3 are just too confusing to navigate, it's the only Zelda game were I actually had to use the mechanic to transport back to the entrance, just because I couldn't figure out how to navigate back. having a time limit only makes It worse, even with the extended time.

The only dungeon-y places I did like were the pirate hideout and and the moon itself.

Re: Nintendo Should Create An Apple Arcade-Style Subscription Service, Claims Analyst

nab1

@WesEds I disagree that Nintendo should make an Apple Arcade type service, but Apple Arcade is a great value, it's definitely not just "mobile games" in the way people think. There's a lot of games in there worth playing, both for experienced gamers as well as for kids. For example I played Sayonara Wild Hearts, Stela, Sonic Racing and Inmost, all games I would have paid for on Switch (In my Apple TV so no different than playing them on a console), but there's several other great ones that I think are currently exclusive to it like Manifold Garden and The Bradwell Conspiracy. And my kids have played many different fun puzzle games, for "free" and without any ads or the typical mobile traps.

Re: Splatoon 2 Version 5.2.0 Update Patch Notes

@BenAV I'm in a similar boat, I've played over 600 hours, and I had to make myself stop playing Splatoon just so I could tackle my backlog. But I always keep thinking that I should play it again, because I love that game so much, and it's still just as fun. This is just another reminder to get back in it.

I'm probably the only one here that doesn't care nor need themes nor folders at all, AND who actually finds the bookmarks useful. I wish bookmarks were available during the Mario Odyssey hidden toads (or was it Luigi's?)

Re: ESRB Ratings Will Now Warn Players About Loot Boxes And Other Random Items

nab1

I've never been bothered by in-game purchases or so called "loot boxes", until I played Assassin's Creed Odyssey on Xbox. That game has way too many level and money barriers that exist only to pad the length of the game and make you grind. And then Ubisoft has the courage to have a micro transaction section in its store named "Time savers", which to me means they knew there's unnecessary padding in the game and they want you to pay extra to skip it, even if you have the season pass btw. That's ridiculous.

Any measure that brings attention to these practices and makes it easier to skip on a game is good in my book.

Re: Rumour: New Info About The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Emerges

nab1

Sounds plausible and interesting, although if it's true about the dungeons, I hope the divine beasts and how they function makes a return. I know some people disliked them, but to me the beasts fixed a lot of issues I had with the dungeons in Zelda games, with their conveniently placed "special" buildings that just happpened to have an item that you need to progress, a boss that you needed to beat. and all that. The beasts just made everything make sense in the world.

Re: Borderlands Legendary Collection Brings Three Games From The Series To Switch

nab1

@EVIL-C > The whole point of buying physical on Switch is that you DON'T have the massive download.

The whole point of the Switch is playing however or wherever you'd like to play. Whether there's a download, massive or not, is besides the point, something only some vocal fans really care about.

Given the option, yes, I'd love it if all games could fit in a single cartridge, but the reality is that it's just not feasible or even possible for some games. If they were to release full cartridges, then we'd probably get separate games instead of collections, and I would guess most would prefer to get the collections.

And while it is truly commendable that CD Project red went the extra mile, that's a rarity (and as a developer I can tell you it's a costly one), and even in that case you still don't have the full game on cartridge because you're missing out on the patches already out and still to come.

Re: Nintendo Remembers ARMS Exists, Announces Official Online Tournament

nab1

@TheNewButler Personally I really loved the art style, the music and overall vibe, and the gameplay was fun enough, but never felt like it had something calling me back to play it. I wish it had more stuff to unlock as you play (aside from so many arms), proper character endings when you beat the game to give you a reason to do it (which I think they added afterwards but should have been there at launch), and that getting new arms didn't require as much grinding as it did.

Re: Guide: 8 Steps To Making Your Gaming Backlog A Thing Of The Past

nab1

Some advice I've learned while trying to get trough my 100+ games backlog: Don't add games to you backlog just because "everyone" says it's the best game ever or the reviews are raving about it. There's a lot of games out there getting overhyped left and right that aren't actually fun to everyone, as well as other "masterpiece" games with glaring issues that many seem to omit but others might find unplayable.

Re: Feature: Games To Play After You've Finished Zelda: Breath of the Wild

nab1

I recently started playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey on my Xbox, because I really wanted something that resembled BotW, but it's only made me appreciate just how great BotW is and what an amazing job Nintendo did refining all the systems so they're transparent and don't get in your way, unlike AC: O which has like 100 systems that all have issues, many aren't really fun, and none are either explained properly or given enough practice to you before requiring you to master them in order to advance.

I think I'm going to give Okami a try instead or afterwards, it's been too long in my backlog.

Re: Video: New Mortal Kombat 11 Trailer Shows Off Spawn With Debut Gameplay Footage

@Zuljaras > 3. Mortal Kombat - Super Over the Top GOREFEST!

I agree that the gore in MK is still over the top (even if they did tone it down a bit from MKX), and I'd like to have the option to disable or tune down parts of it, but IMO anyone who thinks MK is just about the gore does not really understand the series. I'm a long time MK fan since MK1, and it's the physics that make the game, specially MK11. No other fighting game controls quite like it, they're either too floaty or more cartoon like, or over encumbered with complicated moves designed for fighting sticks (which got me out of SF). Personally it's the only fighting game I still care to play because of of how good the games feel (except the 3D era ones, which tried to mimic other 3D games of the time). And that's not even mentioning the amazing story modes they've been adding since MK9 that no other fighting game has matched.

Re: Feature: Best Castlevania Games On Nintendo Consoles

nab1

Dawn of Sorrow IMO is the best Castlevania game ever. Better than SOTN either. It has everything that game has gameplay wise, but also has 2/3 additional missions with different characters, and the soul forging mechanic is really good and super addicting to collect every one.

EDIT: And having a map visible all the time in any Metroidvania is the best thing ever, that alone puts all the DS games above the others in terms of easiness to play for me.
