I knew this way back when a dozen kids would gather in the house of that one guy who had a NES, and we would queue up hoping to get a chance to play (most of the time we didn't). It was also one of those things that we all just knew but couldn't tell who found out first or how.
@FatHedgehog It's no joke. Right now I'm looking for the source code for this because I want to play it, hopefully in something other than a computer. I'd happily pay Nintendo even $60 for the convenience of just clicking on the eShop and spare me the trouble.
@mesome713 I like hard challenges, but this one to me was more frustrating to repeat than hard, because they are so long. You had to be careful but you also had to be fast, and the first time through you didn't even knew the layout, so you could spend a few cycles just getting to know the environment. I think it all comes down to the timer, which was unnecessary. I hope if the game is re-released, they just remove the timer and it should be fine, if these sections just focus on stealth and exploration.
@mesome713 Skyward Sword could be one of my favorites too, but the silent realm segments ruined it for me. There are two things I generally dislike in games: arbitrary time limits and insta-fail stealth sections. The silent realm includes both. Also, Having to beat that big boss over and over again doesn't help either. Because of this, SS is the only Zelda game I've only played once.
But aside from that. SS is such a wonderful game and one of the best Zelda stories ever IMO.
This would have been one of my favorite Zelda games, were it not for the dungeons. I hated them. The first one isn't bad, just very boring. The last 3 are just too confusing to navigate, it's the only Zelda game were I actually had to use the mechanic to transport back to the entrance, just because I couldn't figure out how to navigate back. having a time limit only makes It worse, even with the extended time.
The only dungeon-y places I did like were the pirate hideout and and the moon itself.
@DevlinMandrake I think so too. My sister and a friend also recently got "ransom" phishing emails that mentioned hotmail passwords they probably got from a pastebins. It seemed odd to me that at the same time Nintendo was getting this issue. They're probably just targeting old services.
@Roam85 Yeah, I know, it's just that every time you fail that level, you have to redo the entire level, which takes quite a while, that was my main issue that kept me from retrying it, that I had to basically schedule time to play this level, it wasn't something I should attempt when I had 15 minutes free.
The only part I skipped about this game was on that one very hard and very last level, where you could use the flying thing you captured to glitch through and skip a part of the level I just couldn't beat normally. And I still feel dirty because to date I still haven't beaten that level by myself.
@archangelg At this price I'd just go digital. It's cheap enough considering all games included, and the convenience of playing classic SF at any time without having to look for the cartridge is worth it. I already had it physical, and I double dipped on this sale for that reason.
I already got all the games I wanted, but I double dipped on the SF collection just for the convenience of playing digitally, and also to do my part in letting them know we want classic Capcom fighters on Switch.
@RunGMhx Splatoon 2 is definitely still active,. I think people are still playing even Splatoon 1 (or at least they were last time I checked which is not long ago), so if it's anything like it, Splatoon 2 will continue to be active for a long time.
@JayJ This. Specially during the launch of this feature. That one limit forces everyone to upload only their best world. It's almost certain they'll increase the number down the line.
I recently finished Her Story and loved it, so I'm interested in this game. However, if it plays anything like her story, I don't see how you could "play it" comfortably without a keyboard.
@WesEds I disagree that Nintendo should make an Apple Arcade type service, but Apple Arcade is a great value, it's definitely not just "mobile games" in the way people think. There's a lot of games in there worth playing, both for experienced gamers as well as for kids. For example I played Sayonara Wild Hearts, Stela, Sonic Racing and Inmost, all games I would have paid for on Switch (In my Apple TV so no different than playing them on a console), but there's several other great ones that I think are currently exclusive to it like Manifold Garden and The Bradwell Conspiracy. And my kids have played many different fun puzzle games, for "free" and without any ads or the typical mobile traps.
@BenAV I'm in a similar boat, I've played over 600 hours, and I had to make myself stop playing Splatoon just so I could tackle my backlog. But I always keep thinking that I should play it again, because I love that game so much, and it's still just as fun. This is just another reminder to get back in it.
This makes sense, but I also think that it seems Nintendo developers also play and enjoy their own games. I've seen one too many games on other consoles (Ubisoft games in particular) where it seems like the people making it where just adding separate things described in a design document, not really implementing something they'd actually play.
I'm probably the only one here that doesn't care nor need themes nor folders at all, AND who actually finds the bookmarks useful. I wish bookmarks were available during the Mario Odyssey hidden toads (or was it Luigi's?)
I've never been bothered by in-game purchases or so called "loot boxes", until I played Assassin's Creed Odyssey on Xbox. That game has way too many level and money barriers that exist only to pad the length of the game and make you grind. And then Ubisoft has the courage to have a micro transaction section in its store named "Time savers", which to me means they knew there's unnecessary padding in the game and they want you to pay extra to skip it, even if you have the season pass btw. That's ridiculous.
Any measure that brings attention to these practices and makes it easier to skip on a game is good in my book.
The "bugged" smoke looks better to me, the other one is too cartoony. But I also think the difference doesn't really matter when viewed in a 20 inch CRT at the time, specially given how quickly Mario moves in that state.
I'm currently playing through Assassin's Creed Odyssey on Xbox, and each of the many, many issues I find in that game just remind me of how awesome BotW, and what a step forward it represented. I can't wait for the sequel.
That... actually looked interesting. I'd be up for a fun, retro-inspired shooter like this. And I don't know why, but something about machines combining to make a cooler and bigger machine just really clicks with me.
This is one series that people speak highly of, but I tried Panzer Dragoon Orta on Xbox and didn't like it. If this remake doesn't even compare favorably to the previous games for people who did like it, then it's a definite skip for me.
Sounds plausible and interesting, although if it's true about the dungeons, I hope the divine beasts and how they function makes a return. I know some people disliked them, but to me the beasts fixed a lot of issues I had with the dungeons in Zelda games, with their conveniently placed "special" buildings that just happpened to have an item that you need to progress, a boss that you needed to beat. and all that. The beasts just made everything make sense in the world.
@EVIL-C > The whole point of buying physical on Switch is that you DON'T have the massive download.
The whole point of the Switch is playing however or wherever you'd like to play. Whether there's a download, massive or not, is besides the point, something only some vocal fans really care about.
Given the option, yes, I'd love it if all games could fit in a single cartridge, but the reality is that it's just not feasible or even possible for some games. If they were to release full cartridges, then we'd probably get separate games instead of collections, and I would guess most would prefer to get the collections.
And while it is truly commendable that CD Project red went the extra mile, that's a rarity (and as a developer I can tell you it's a costly one), and even in that case you still don't have the full game on cartridge because you're missing out on the patches already out and still to come.
@Expa0 I hear you, but the music for the Attack on Vah Ruta sequence is one of the most epic music I've listened to in a game. So while yes, most of the music is short samples, there's definitely some music they could pick from in BotW.
@sanderev And most people don't care as much about a full physical cartridge as some vocal "fans" do, specially in an age were games take up so much storage.
@Broosh I agree. While no game on earth is better than Splatoon 2 (scientifically proven ), a game like this that isn't made by Nintendo more than likely wouldn't work or get a sufficiently large player base if it wasn't free to play.
@TheNewButler Personally I really loved the art style, the music and overall vibe, and the gameplay was fun enough, but never felt like it had something calling me back to play it. I wish it had more stuff to unlock as you play (aside from so many arms), proper character endings when you beat the game to give you a reason to do it (which I think they added afterwards but should have been there at launch), and that getting new arms didn't require as much grinding as it did.
Some advice I've learned while trying to get trough my 100+ games backlog: Don't add games to you backlog just because "everyone" says it's the best game ever or the reviews are raving about it. There's a lot of games out there getting overhyped left and right that aren't actually fun to everyone, as well as other "masterpiece" games with glaring issues that many seem to omit but others might find unplayable.
I recently started playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey on my Xbox, because I really wanted something that resembled BotW, but it's only made me appreciate just how great BotW is and what an amazing job Nintendo did refining all the systems so they're transparent and don't get in your way, unlike AC: O which has like 100 systems that all have issues, many aren't really fun, and none are either explained properly or given enough practice to you before requiring you to master them in order to advance.
I think I'm going to give Okami a try instead or afterwards, it's been too long in my backlog.
That movie has the best version of K.K. Bossa ever. I watch it every once in a while just for it. I wish the movie was translated so my daughters could watch it.
