Nintendo Reconfirms Terry's November Arrival In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Glad they are releasing characters so quickly. Banjo and Terry are only about 2 months apart.

Anyone have opinions on Banjo so far? I like the way he looks, from the little I've played i don't know if I like the way he handles, seems kinda slow. Hmmm... that gets me curious (off to search Youtube)

Terry is an amazing choice for the game!!!! Im a huge Neo Geo and SNK fan and while i would’ve preferred Kyo Kusanagi, Terry is most certainly welcome and i’m going to make him my top main next to Yoshi!!!

Not a huge fighting game fan (outside of a select few) so I never played a Fatal Fury or King of Fighters game, but I am still excited to play as him. Every DLC fighter so far has been a blast to play as. While he's no Banjo-Kazooie (and no announcement will be, they were my top choice for the past 3 games) I have a decent amount of hype going in for him.

I’m pretty sure the 5th dlc fighter will be another 3rd party choice again since all 4 have been different publishers. I’m gonna bet right now that the “additional” characters after the 5th will be Waluigi and someone else.

I just want the next one announced. I'd never heard of Terry Bogard before so I myself have no real hype for him.

I'm so stoked for the Fatal Fury / King of Fighters stage! I hope it morphs to an iconic scene of characters fighting in the streets with a crowd watching. Would be SO KOOL! just can't wait! I hope for some Kula appearance, and Cutie Terry alt!

I wonder if we gonna have Crash Bandicoot or Spyro to represent the Playstation/ Sony
(Technically Joker would be Playstation, but its more Atlus). I'm just so excited for the last character of this pass

Definitely seems like they have potential to be realised, but I haven't done so yet.

The grenade move I think could be used in clever ways.

@sanya_exe I wouldn't say I hate all of the characters, I think they are all good in their own way. But I too have always wanted an MH character. Just know that Monster Hunters don't exactly have a 'Main Character, so an actual monster makes way more sense. Maybe something cool like the Nergigante or really cheeky like a Great Jaggi LOL.

I think that the last fighter will soneone like Travid Touchdown. After the fighter pass, they'll definitely introduce Rex and Pyra and Waluigi; maybe (hopefully), they'll introduce Sora (skins can be Riku, Kairi, K. Mickey, Roxas, Ventus, Aqua, and Terra), Lara Croft, Jill Valentine (with Claire and Leon as skins), and Chun Li (to complete the street fighter holy trinity). I could also see the Doomguy and Ryu Hayabusa (hopefully with Kasumi and Hayate skins) being true; the same goes for Minecraft Steve, though I could really go without him.

I’m looking forward to Terry as he is my favorite fighter in kof which I hope does get a representation in our stage music selection. As far as fighter5, I’m thinking it’ll for sure be another guest character as that is the theme so I’d be happy with Geralt as Witcher 3 may be my game of this generation. He’d have awesome stage music, switching from iron to silver swords when fighting human to beast would be cool, magical attacks and traps. He could really work. An overwatch rep I’d also really like and tracer would be fitting as she practically is their mascot. For pass 2 I’m hoping for a little more Nintendo representation, even if it’s only for a freebie fighter like piranha plant. I’d like a classic character like excitebike for that.

Kyo Kusanagi would have been my No. 1 choice! but there are really SOoo many cool and iconic characters from KOF and SNK generally and Terry is definitely one of them so it's not too bad. Just don't really understand what the point of revealing him and then not showing his moves is about though

@Chunkboi79 I think if Nintendo has shown anything regarding Smash, it's that they can, and will do whatever they please. I don't think that rules him out as a possibility at all. What does rule him out for me is the weak repertoire of moves they have to pull from. Unlike Wario, Waluigi has not had his own game (that I'm aware of?) and I can't think of a single signature move/attack I'd associate with him.

Im more hyped for this character than I was for Banjo, Banjos playstyle is not what I expected to be, but it does fit him in the end.

@NintenDan_ but there has never been a situation in which an assist trophy has become a playable character in the same game. That is the only rule that has stayed true throughout the last three games.

@retro_player_22 Not to mention Geno actually has a Legend-class spirit in Smash so that means he can't have a Fighter Spirit = no fighter, sorry. you're not the only victim many people went with the "Mii Costume theory" every Mii costume character would be a fighter. This was further supported by the Inkling reveal and hype for Geno reached its peak. However, this was proven untrue as many costume characters were instead given assist trophies. Zero, Akira, Black Knight, and even ribbon girl and Spring Man were all given assist trophies. Geno only got a Legend-class to spirit.

Spirits and even assist trophies don't mean anything anymore. The first Fighters Pass was planned out while the base game was still in development, so it's reasonable to assume that stuff like Geno and Shantae getting spirits and Waluigi still being an assist were consolation prizes for the characters they knew weren't in (like how Pit and Wario got trophies in Melee and then got upgraded to playable in Brawl) and therefore deconfirmed them from the original plan for the roster, but the post-Fighters Pass characters seem to be something that they weren't originally planning on and that they haven't actually started development on, or at least didn't until recently. If they're adding more DLC beyond their original plans based on fan demand, then all bets are off.

A character getting a spirit in the base game confirms that they weren't originally planning on that character being playable; it does not mean they are now bound by that and are not allowed to go back later and add that character. They can do whatever they want.

(And as for Geno specifically — he's been on Sakurai's radar at least since Brawl; now that K.Rool and Ridley are in, he and Isaac are pretty much the last of the historically most-wanted characters left; and the splash screen for his Mii costume in 4 — something that even Sans didn't get! — shows that they know the demand is there. I can understand him not making the cut for the base game + FP1, which is why he got a spirit instead, but if we end up getting 5 or even 10 more characters after FP1, I would actually be pretty surprised if he wasn't one of them.)

@Adamario spirits never deconfirmed anything especially since Lucas had a trophy model before he was even playable in sm4sh. But how do you factor in assist trophies? Not one fighter has been upgraded from an assist trophy to a regular character in the same game.

@Chunkboi79 Smash 4 doesn't count because they did the same thing to Mewtwo, It only applies to SPIRITS! You'll notice that Little Mac used to be an assist trophy in Smash Brawl but a character debuting in 4? It is not relevant because the theory mentioned above only applies to Spirits. Piranha Plant never had a Spirit because he was going to become a fighter (in which case he'd receive a Fighter Spirit, which he did).

@Reigestugatensho I wouldn't discount spirits as being a deconfirmation at all. Spirits are meant to replace trophies meaning the practice may probably be the same. Also how doesn't it count, yes Mewtwo also had a trophy. That only further strengthens my argument that spirits wouldn't deconfirm characters because the system it replaced had instances where they made existing trophies into fighters.

You know how easy it would be to make a fighter spirit for any existing spirit in smash? Put together a new model (for the actual smash game) take a screenshot of the new model. Boom new fighter spirit, easy peasy. If Banjo can get into smash anyone can.

@Chunkboi79 It doesn't matter how easy it is to make the Fighter Spirit, it matters that it is already there. When there were multiple versions of a character they just made it an upgradable spirit and not a replacement. Waluigi can't have character because he is already a Spirit and an Assist Trophy. Geno+Spirit=No Fighter. Copy and Paste your character. Besides if you don't think Spirits deconfirm characters then Assist Trophies definitely do.
EDIT: also the prior system only existed in the past since it pertained to secret unlock characters. We knew that 'Everyone was Here' after all, so No need to do the same thing with the Trophies.

@Chunkboi79 I'm aware, but I really think that Nintendo will break the assist trophy rule with Waluigi, because of the sheer volume of players that want him. Ultimate is the wish fulfillment entry in the series between K. Rool, banjo, and Ridley (not to mention, the return of characters like Snake/ Wolf and introduction of echoes like Chrom). I'd say the three characters that separate it from being the ultimate form of wish fulfillment (pun intended) are Sora, Rex, and of course, Waluigi

@TYRANACLES I definitely think that Tracer has a solid shot at inclusion, especially after the advent of Overwatch on the Switch and the Overwatch creator's recent comments. I've been thinking more and more about Geralt recently due to Witcher 3 popping up on Switch and his moveset being good for Switch. I will say though, Geralt, in my view, has two marks against him: he was previously included in Soul Calibur and his moveset would likely be very reminiscent of the Hero's (plus, people are kind of over sword characters in general)

I’m sick of sword fighters two and this fighter would have 2 of them! But Witcher is just such a wonderful game I could not be mad at his inclusion. I could see him having some standout abilities tho like his trap and disorienting magic and silver sword being more effective in beasts like bowser and iron on link.
