I can imagine the GameStream feature (mentioned in the video) repurposed to add DS/3DS/WiiU support.
So, in typical Nintendo fashion, they've ironed out slightly older tech to be more versatile and robust. That right there is a reason to go for a Switch 2 over the Steam Deck. (I own a Steam Deck and still love it)
4k is the resolution needed to legitimately emulate a CRT TV at the subpixel level. BFI + 120Hz is the framerate needed to emulate the scan rate for the CRT smoothness. (I think 240Hz is needed to emulate the beem itself)
Is it possible that the CRT filter is going to do something like CRT Royale!? True CRT emulation and not just scanlines??
I've used CRT Royale on my 4K OLED at 120Hz and there's really nothing like it. It genuinely feels like the world's best CRT.
Reading through some of the comments — some people can't be pleased. This is exactly what I wanted from the Switch. Well, minus some sort of dual screen capability.
The price is only a bummer in the sense that the economy is really hurting. They both have a launch price of about a month's worth of groceries at the time of each release. The only major downside is that Nintendo has quite a bit of pull, and I'll bet the rest of the industry follows soon.
I know this is "meh" for a lot of folks, but I genuinely can't wait for this. I love BOTW/TOTK and have a 4k OLED TV... finally I get to experience it in full HDR glory!
I really just want the handheld console if it's a good experience.
It's impossible to find a good handheld console Tetris. All of the ones on the market already use like 25% of the already tiny screen — this one included. It's easier to just buy a DS (or some other Nintendo console) + Tetris.
@Spider-Kev Ah OK. The HD rumble is essentially a speaker. Games can send sound files to it, and it rumbles as so. Which makes sense as speakers basically rumble the air.
Oh, and I had a thought about why it's Switch 2 and not something like "Super Switch" (which is WAY cooler IMO)
If they named it Super Switch, then any game that came out for the successor console would inevitably be tagged "Super". Like, Super Snipper Clips or Super Splatoon 3.
However, naming it Switch 2 safe guards from this because nobody is going to name their game "Splatoon 3 2".
As much as I like the name "Super Splatoon", it implies that it's ONLY for the new Switch. Maybe Nintendo wants these consoles to run in parallel and continue to release games which are supported on both consoles, or at the very least sell enhanced versions of Switch OG games.
In the event that I'm wrong... it begs the question, what will the updated experience qualifier be? BOTW: Enhanced? BOTW: DX?
Maybe that's why Mario Kart didn't get a name yet. The name is part of the surprise! There's another trailer secret for ya! It's the notes that they didn't play
There are definitely a lot of graphical improvements that are going unnoticed. I think this is just because MK8D just looked so good.
But full resolution shadows without noticeable variable resolution AND the lighting makes me think it's finally capable of deferred rendering at decent framerates!
The boost pad speckle effect is interesting but might just be a fun shader... either way. I like it!
Sharper shadows! This is the one thing that bothered me about most Switch games. It's a minor technical detail but it's a clue to a more modern 3D architecture which hopefully means easier development.
The puffs coming out from the wheels looks really nice too!
The item box in the gas station looks intriguing! It seems to stay gold — or maybe that's just a standard box and the design has been updated.
And the camera pull away at the end revealing how big the tracks will be!
Maybe the "C" button is for bringing up the virtual keyboard.
The mouse feature is to bring in more "desktop-only" games like RTSs. The virtual keyboard co-exists with this.
Side note: Funny how they dropped the IR sensor from the Joy-Con and not a single comment on it. I know that it'll contain another sensor but of course it means that things like Labo aren't viable anymore.
I'm not bothered by the Switch 2 not fitting into the OG dock. It makes sense if the Switch 2 requires more power. I just hope the OG Switch fits into the new dock.
I don't want to have to have 2 docks, basically lol
The level design itself looks really polished and fresh!
Not to downplay what these devs have done, but I think that's what's really appealing to me about the n64 era right now. It's achievable by small teams! So you know there is heart and soul poured into the game, and not just something off an assembly line.
My one nitpick here is I feel like the main character could use some, like... sunglasses... or guitar... or something to make him feel more iconic and like a player character instead of an NPC

The price per hour of entertainment is still an absolute bargain compared to many other activities.

$80 for MKW is similar to MK8D + Expansion.
Just sayin'...

OK, this is very much wishful thinking...

Re: Video: Metroid Prime 4 Side-By-Side Early Graphics Comparison (Switch 2 & Switch)
I haven't seen any examples of the Switch 2 doing 4k at 120hz yet. I know it'll need the horsepower, but I'm curious if it has the ability to output?

"C" to open the camera. The Switch 2 will replace your phone as your new camera.
Re: Minecraft Movie Tries To Capture Some 'Peaches' Magic With New Jack Black Track
I'm glad I caught the Mario movie on opening day. I think I would have hated Peaches if I knew it was viral before I was surprised by it in the movie.
This, however, doesn't feel like that? This just feels like a theme song, not a meme song.

Re: Feature: 12 Things Switch 2's Mysterious Not-C-Button Might Do, Maybe
@bleeflooflah I would love that feature reveal!
A person is playing a game. Then they take it out of the dock but the TV feed keeps going. Then they show the Switch has a different POV.
Re: Feature: 12 Things Switch 2's Mysterious Not-C-Button Might Do, Maybe
It's a pairing button, clearly. Press it to open a menu and pair with other Switches.

Re: Video: We've Spotted Some Secrets In The Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer
I think the "IR Camera" is just a tactile/style line, to be honest. Games rarely used it and the mouse sensor should suffice.
Also, I wonder if the bottom grooves (e.g. micro SD slot?) are for making sure you don't put a Switch 2 into a Switch OG dock.
Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Donkey Kong's Redesign In Mario Kart 9?
This version reminds of the old 90s show more than the movie.
To be honest, when I first saw it I thought it was a totally different character! Like Donkey Kong's brother, Monkey Kong or something.

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?
The only thing new to me (after all of the leaks) was the Joy-Con straps. Not super exciting, but nice to get a confirmation of everything.
Waiting until April is a bummer though.
Oh! And Mario Kart's shadows are way sharper than MK8D which is to be expected but it's an indication to a more modern 3D pipeline.

Will they update the NSO NES controllers? There won't be a way to charge them anymore. Well, not without an external charger.

Switch 3 confirmed!!
Re: Switch 2 'Indentations' Make It Incompatible With Original Switch Dock, Says Genki

Re: Talking Point: Everyone Else Is Busy Revealing Switch 2 - What Gives, Nintendo?
Because it's working.
Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?
I think these leaks quell expectations, IMO.
If there's any magic hidden, it's in the dock. Home server? TV as a second screen (ala Wii U)?
