Re: Best 4K TVs For Nintendo Switch 2

Looks like a few people disagree with me.

That's fine. rtings has been doing a burn-in test running static content for 7 years now and agrees with me with real-world usage. And those panels are from 7 years ago.

If you're really looking for comfort, LG generally has a pretty good warranty specifically for burn-in. (mine is 5 years)

Re: Best 4K TVs For Nintendo Switch 2

OLED burn-in is basically a thing of the past at this point. I wouldn't stress about it at all.

I calibrate my LG C1(OLED 4K 120hz) with a color meter every few months — to show you how picky I am — and I've never once noticed any sort of burn-in. I keep the brightness at 100% as well.

Re: Feature: "It's Huge For Us" - Devs Talk Switch 2 Reactions, Dev-Kit Disparity, Future Plans

It's feeling more and more like this really should have been called the Super Switch over the Switch 2. The developers seem excited about the improvements over the original Switch, but there doesn't seem to be anyone saying that it brings brand new ideas to the table.

I mean, this is perfect for me. I'm honestly pumped to get one. It's exactly what I've been wanting over the years. But still, I think it's missing a little of Nintendo's iconic "let's innovate with this wtf quirk" like a second screen on the back or something.

Re: Physical 'Switch 2 Editions' Confirmed To Have Everything On The Game Card, Says Nintendo

montrayjak

@Serpenterror That's what I'm hoping for!

So, for example, if I buy a BOTW:S2E cart for myself, then I can let my kid put the same cart into her hand-me-down Switch 1. Saves from buying 2 editions of the same game.

But that actually begs the question... if I play my profile on the Switch 1, will my save file transfer? I'm assuming not, because how would it reconcile the missing features?

Re: Japanese Retailer Is Asking The Public How To Combat Switch 2 Scalpers

montrayjak

I think most people would be happy to just put their name on a waitlist. Probably even pay for it ahead of time.

The real drive to go to a scalper is because they're typically setup to make a purchase before you might see an email notification that they're in stock. So your chances are zero. Take that out of the equation, and make a waitlist.

Re: Is The Switch 2 A Steam Deck Killer? Digital Foundry Dives Deep

montrayjak

I can imagine the GameStream feature (mentioned in the video) repurposed to add DS/3DS/WiiU support.

So, in typical Nintendo fashion, they've ironed out slightly older tech to be more versatile and robust. That right there is a reason to go for a Switch 2 over the Steam Deck. (I own a Steam Deck and still love it)

Re: GameCube Games On Switch 2 Will Support An Optional CRT Filter

montrayjak

OK, this is very much wishful thinking...

4k is the resolution needed to legitimately emulate a CRT TV at the subpixel level. BFI + 120Hz is the framerate needed to emulate the scan rate for the CRT smoothness. (I think 240Hz is needed to emulate the beem itself)

Is it possible that the CRT filter is going to do something like CRT Royale!? True CRT emulation and not just scanlines??

I've used CRT Royale on my 4K OLED at 120Hz and there's really nothing like it. It genuinely feels like the world's best CRT.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

montrayjak

Reading through some of the comments — some people can't be pleased. This is exactly what I wanted from the Switch. Well, minus some sort of dual screen capability.

The price is only a bummer in the sense that the economy is really hurting. They both have a launch price of about a month's worth of groceries at the time of each release. The only major downside is that Nintendo has quite a bit of pull, and I'll bet the rest of the industry follows soon.

Re: Video: We've Spotted Some Secrets In The Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer

montrayjak

Oh, and I had a thought about why it's Switch 2 and not something like "Super Switch" (which is WAY cooler IMO)

If they named it Super Switch, then any game that came out for the successor console would inevitably be tagged "Super". Like, Super Snipper Clips or Super Splatoon 3.

However, naming it Switch 2 safe guards from this because nobody is going to name their game "Splatoon 3 2".

As much as I like the name "Super Splatoon", it implies that it's ONLY for the new Switch. Maybe Nintendo wants these consoles to run in parallel and continue to release games which are supported on both consoles, or at the very least sell enhanced versions of Switch OG games.

In the event that I'm wrong... it begs the question, what will the updated experience qualifier be? BOTW: Enhanced? BOTW: DX?

Maybe that's why Mario Kart didn't get a name yet. The name is part of the surprise! There's another trailer secret for ya! It's the notes that they didn't play

Re: Feature: Everything You Missed In The Switch 2 Mario Kart Reveal - Characters, Features, Easter Eggs

montrayjak

There are definitely a lot of graphical improvements that are going unnoticed. I think this is just because MK8D just looked so good.

But full resolution shadows without noticeable variable resolution AND the lighting makes me think it's finally capable of deferred rendering at decent framerates!

The boost pad speckle effect is interesting but might just be a fun shader... either way. I like it!

Re: New Mario Kart 9 Teased For Switch 2

montrayjak

Sharper shadows! This is the one thing that bothered me about most Switch games. It's a minor technical detail but it's a clue to a more modern 3D architecture which hopefully means easier development.

The puffs coming out from the wheels looks really nice too!

The item box in the gas station looks intriguing! It seems to stay gold — or maybe that's just a standard box and the design has been updated.

And the camera pull away at the end revealing how big the tracks will be!

Looks fun!!

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

montrayjak

The only thing new to me (after all of the leaks) was the Joy-Con straps. Not super exciting, but nice to get a confirmation of everything.

Waiting until April is a bummer though.

Oh! And Mario Kart's shadows are way sharper than MK8D which is to be expected but it's an indication to a more modern 3D pipeline.

Re: Switch 2: Hardware Gallery - Take A Closer Look At Nintendo's Lovely New Switch

Maybe the "C" button is for bringing up the virtual keyboard.

The mouse feature is to bring in more "desktop-only" games like RTSs. The virtual keyboard co-exists with this.

Side note: Funny how they dropped the IR sensor from the Joy-Con and not a single comment on it. I know that it'll contain another sensor but of course it means that things like Labo aren't viable anymore.
