Re: Review: Runbow (Switch eShop)

@SmaggTheSmug yes, true enough. I wonder how many copies it sold on wiiu though, and how many it will sell on Switch. Couldn’t find the wiiu numbers. That seems the pertinent fact, to me. I shall remain optimistic though. It’s a decent game.

@theberrage Feel like the review should have made more of the terribly empty state of the wiiu online lobbies -ruined the game for me too. See no immediate reason why the lobbies will be full of players on Switch.

Re: No Plans For More Wolfenstein Switch Ports, But Panic Button Is "Totally" Up For It

luke88

@ballistic90 Nintendo should buy a company to ensure it has a team to handle ports? Staff port games, staff come and go. If Nintendo needs staff it can hire them. Buy a company that has no significant tangible assets to ensure it doesn’t cut ties with you? What exactly would Nintendo miss out on if Panic Button ‘cut ties with them?’ More resources? Do you mean more staff, more office space, more IP? You don’t need to buy a company to obtain the first two, on the contrary it would be an absurd waste of money to do so. Maybe Panic Button has IP I’m not aware of, or something else I’m not aware of. If so, make me aware and I could agree with you.

I agree that the staff at Panic Button are obviously talented, but the points I’ve paraphrased above are pretty confused.

I don’t mean to grill you about this, but it becomes tiresome seeing ‘Nintendo should buy X company,’ beneath various articles, written by people who clearly don’t have the faintest clue what they’re talking about.

What are the online options? Even if you couldn’t test them, they’re an important part of the game for myself and doubtless many others, and perhaps should have been covered in the review.

Re: Random: Nintendo UK Can't Resist Getting In On The Royal Wedding Hype

luke88

@Fuz I guess I do not agree that tourism would be negatively affected, at least not in the long term. So we’re perhaps at an impasse there and must agree to disagree.

As it’s an economic argument I also do not really think it’s possible to separate one aspect of it, tourism, from the wider economic context - though I understand that your original point was intended in response to something else

Good exchange, I enjoyed it, thanks.

On topic, good poster, excellent marketing 😂

Re: Random: Nintendo UK Can't Resist Getting In On The Royal Wedding Hype

luke88

@Fuz yes, I read that article when googling before I posted to you, among a few other bits, am also familiar with ‘Republic.’ A supporter of that cause, in the interests of full disclosure - in case you hadn’t guessed. 😂

I appreciate the long, interesting, well written and civil post and agree there may be a ‘destination marketing’ aspect to these types of large scale events. But the economic benefits outlined in the article you linked are pretty spurious - much of the data put forth in such articles seems to conflate tourists visiting historical Royal buildings because historical Royal buildings are rather nice with visiting said buildings because we have a constitutional monarchy in 2018. They also rarely seem to make any attempt to offset annual spend on the Soverign Grant and related security expenses. Most of the sensible writing that I’ve come across states pretty clearly it’s not possible to really quantify, with any degree of certainty, the economic benefit, or lack thereof, that the royal family brings to the UK through tourism.

To be clear, I did not say they didn’t bring that benefit. I do not believe it’s possible to make that claim with any degree of certainty. But nor can anyone claim the opposite, as so many in this debate seem to do unquestioningly.

Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves

luke88

No voice chat solution, no party’s, no games that interest me. I’ll subscribe to play online but I really can’t see anything good about this at this time. Not sure how the author can suggest that the features offered are close to those offered by Nintendo’s competitors. Also, the idea that because Sony and Microsoft’s online offerings have developed over time these past few years we should wait patiently - who knows how many years - for Nintendo to realise it’s 2018 is absurd.

Edit: I don’t mean to moan, I know it’s cheap so it’s not a huge issue. The announcement just didn’t fulfill any of my hopes, I guess.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Finally Revealed: Cloud Saves, NES Games And Pricing Confirmed

luke88

The same old NES games, fingers crossed more systems get included in this sooner rather than later.

I know psplus is twice the price but it’s pretty reasonable considering what you get; I’m currently playing Rayman Legends, which I only played a little on wiiu, and beyond: two souls, which seems kind of okay so far. Last month I got Mad Max, Bloodborne the month before. The contrast is pretty stark.

I see @BigKing has just made the same point above. 👍🏻

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April (Europe)

@Jayenkai couldn’t agree more. I try to avoid buying any game that also has a ‘Super Great Deluxe’ version. It’s not uncommon to see three versions of the same game released on the same day on the ps store, the most expensive of which, that I’ve seen, being £85 if I recall correctly. Seems to be becoming more and more common.
