@sleepinglion oh hi, my name's Luke. I'm the other person that thought that TOTK, whilst enjoyable, was wildly overrated. We should probably form some sort of club.
Easily in my top 5 favourite games of all time. A sublime experience in every respect. I would advise relegating co-op to your second playthrough. A dark room with the curtains drawn, single player, is the way to go.
It's great that you guys got a review out for this so quickly, thanks a lot. Any word at all on frame rates? Especially late game with mega bases, am guessing it's basically all good there?
I really want this to be good but I have so little faith in the "AAA" industry by this point, and the deluxe edition / pre-order nonsense doesn't fill me with confidence. The trailer doesn't seem great, either. Want to see some actual gameplay.
The biggest flaw, for me, is the lack of online options - it should be possible to join one or two friends then fill the group out with additional randoms, for example. And why isn't there an invite system? Mind boggling oversights, really. Especially galling when you think about how much better the online options are in various free to play offerings.
Edit: it seems "password matches" with friends are filled out by random humans online, it just isn't made clear at first. Just in case anyone read my initial comment someday and was put off.
How about allowing us to invite people to our clubs? How about a transfer market? Make the stats which are already tracked public. You could offer top players coins to join your club, set a once a month switch or something to stop people abusing it. Wouldn't that be great? I'm not a developer, you'd think they could've come up with some cool features for the game...
@SonOfVon yes! This was absolutely ridiculous. After all the "play with your friends online" marketing nonsense how could we have guessed they actually meant just friend. Couldn't believe it when I bought the game. The NLife review left it out too, really bothered me.
I mean it's not possible to party up with more than one switch online on the same team; you can only play 2 v 2. Absurd in an online focused game with 4 player teams. Honestly couldn't believe it when I bought the game. I thought I must've missed the option somewhere.
@Switch_Pro I basically agree with you, but do you think it was unreasonable to expect to be able to pair up 2-4 switches on the same team online? It's 2022, after all. The fact that we can't was not "on the tin." In fact it wasn't even mentioned in the NLife review - I believe that review said "several switches" could be paired, which is pretty misleading. Nintendo's own marketing consistently referred to joining your friends online, not your friend. I emailed next level about it and they haven't responded. I think it's a valid complaint and must be patched in.
Is it possible for three or four friends to team up online (on three or four separate consoles no one local) and then play strangers online? Or is it just two vs two?
Many thanks, in advance!
Edit: for anyone wondering who happens to read this, no, you can't. It is inexplicably, absurdly limited to 2 switches in an online party. This needs fixing as soon as possible. Highly recommend checking other reviews before buying. Love this site but I'm sad to say it's yet another NLife review that simply fails to give the consumer the information they need to make an informed decision.
Also, couple of you chaps in the comment section need to make more use of the wayward compass - not only will you never be lost it's also the most OP charm in the game. Unbelievably OP, basically game-breaking.
Affordable Space Adventures vibes? Seriously? I was excited to watch the trailer having read the article; would love something similar to affordable space adventures. This doesn't seem to be it.
Would buy the game in a heartbeat if it had online, looks wonderful. As it is I might pick it up at Xmas when I visit family and have someone to play it with.
So happy to see Affordable Space Adventures get a little bit of the love it deserves. I would add that it was codeveloped by Nifflas and knapnok games, with the latter handling the sublime control scheme, if I recall correctly. Unbelievably beautiful game in every respect.
I strongly urge anyone who can to download Affordable Space Adventures on the Wii u while they still can. It is one of the best games I have ever played in my life.
@OorWullie yeah that would be great! It definitely took me a few hours for it to click. Let me know and I'll put my friend code here or something.
The game does include an invite option for your friends list, which I forgot to mention, so should be possible to catch one another online at some point.
@OorWullie so far my experience has been really positive! It tells you how many players are online at the time. I've never seen a number above 25 but still find matches every time in 30-60 seconds. You often end up matching with the same people again and again, which can be great, I've had unbelievable sets of matches with the same random players the past few evenings (different people each evening). Unfortunately it doesn't include the "search for users you've played with" friends thing on the switch.
I actually emailed the Devs, and they emailed straight back saying they have a lot of things to add, and plan to add that too down the road. So hopefully it'll keep getting better.
Can't say long term obviously, but as of right now it's some of the best online gaming I've had in years.
Hope Arceus turns out well, unfortunately the warm diarrhea the pokemon company has been spoon feeding us all for a while now seems to be going down rather well with many. Perhaps we'll get more of the same early next year, which would be a shame.

Without doubt one of the best games on switch and, while it does seem odd to adjust for Inflation on a completed game, it is unquestionably worth $35.
