It's the weekend once more, which means it's time to break out your favourite Nintendo console and catch up on some of that much-needed gaming time. This week, Team Nintendo Life are giving a new free-to-play title through its paces, joining up for a tennis tournament and playing some rather unexpected games. Be sure to leave a vote in the poll below and a comment or two for good measure. Have a great weekend!

Pokémon Quest has me hooked, so I’ll spend a bunch of time digging into that this weekend. I’m still kind of figuring it all out. For a game that looks so simple, it doesn’t half contain a lot of depth. It’s quite tough too, and I’m having to grind a lot in the hopes of evolving my favourite Pokémon and generally getting the ones I need to a high enough level to beat the worlds and unlock those statues I need. Overall, I’m stoked we finally have Pokémon in some form on Switch, and this will keep me busy until Let’s Go later in the year.

Mario Tennis Aces was revealed earlier this year and I’ve been uninterested in it ever since. The online tournament demo is running this weekend, however, so I suppose I will try it out and see if it can win me over. Other than that I bought the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection this week, so I will be continuing with various titles from that. In some ways it’s a little lacking, with Alpha 3 in particular feeling heavily cutdown compared to the home versions, but there are some excellent games here even if I do seem to have become terrible at Street Fighter III.

This weekend I will be attempting to channel my inner Mansour Bahrami and test out Mario Tennis Aces. It's fair to say that Ultra Smash on the Wii U left a lot to be desired, but when Mario Sports games are done right (strikers *coughs*) they are really fun, and if there's a decent single player, then I'll be convinced. Also, Pokémon Quest. Having not played a Pokemon game for over 20 years, it's clear that Nintendo is playing the long game, and a cheeky little free to start taster for Let's Go and then the ’core’ new gen game next year is a cynically brilliant drip feed to bring new players and long-lost cronies like myself back in.

I’m probably mostly excited for the Mario Tennis Aces pre-launch tournament that’s taking place this weekend. Everything I’ve seen of the game so far looks great, and while I’m more interested in the game’s campaign than online features, I’ll definitely be giving this one a go when I get a bit of time.
Other than that I’ll probably have another quick look at Pokémon Quest. I started it a couple of days ago, played until the first time restraint came up, and haven’t been back since. I liked the general idea of it when I was playing, but I can’t usually be doing with the constant waiting needed in free-to-play games. I’ll have to see if it can win me over with another couple of tries.

This weekend I'll mostly be playing through Legend of Kay Anniversary in prep for our review. Having not played it since the original a decade ago, it should be interesting to see how well its aged. Plus, I love any excuse to play a 3D platformer!
I've also got a hankering to play some more Elder Scrolls. The new Summerset expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online isn't out on consoles yet, so to tidy me over I'll be jumping back into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and bothering folks with all manner of dragonshouts from my trusty Nintendo Switch.
Alex Olney, video producer
No wondering this time, when I've got a few moments between brewing steps I'll be enjoying Mario Tennis Aces thanks to the free online pre-release demo or whatever it's technically called. When that's not suitable to tickle my face, no doubt I'll indulge in a spot more Stardew Valley to take the edge off the high-octane action. You know, to mix it up a bit.

Give me an ‘I’! Give me a ‘KA’! Give me a ‘RUGA’. What does that spell? That’s right, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is my new de facto way of life. As the award ceremony begins, the crowd can be heard whispering: "Where is the champion? Where is Shiryu?” Already seeking the next challenge, ceremony means nothing to him. The Nintendo Life is everything… but no way I’m skipping the chance flesh out last minute net code bugs on Mario Tennis Aces. The brilliant Quad Fighter K (and bonus game Cyber Ship Nakku) seal the rest of the weekend off.

Last weekend saw me travel up to sunny Birmingham to celebrate Pride and so I have a lot of gaming time to make up! Just as well really, as now I've been graced with an annoying cold that has certainly outstayed its welcome... what a perfect excuse to stay inside and play video games, eh? My attention will be turning to the just-released ICEY on Nintendo Switch with a review of said game landing on this site soon. I think I'll treat myself to RUNNER3 as I played the Wii U RUNNER to death. I mean, who can resist that voiceover from Charles Martinet!?

My weekend will involve remodeling – both digital and physical. Now that Harvest Moon: Light of Hope Special Edition is out on Switch, I’ll be plowing headfirst into my new farm. I’ve read mixed reviews of this game, so it’ll be interesting to see if it compares to Stardew Valley. As one of my favourite game series, I hope it does – but it seems like the student (Eric Barone) has become the teacher now. We’ll see after this weekend. In between selling crops and expanding my house, I’ll be doing some work on my new home in the real world - specifically, dedicating an entire room to videogames & nerdy memorabilia. Yes, I need a whole room.

I'm determined to win a tournament in Mario Tennis Aces but sometimes the lag is unbearable, hopefully it will improve in the final version!
I'll be playing Mario Tennis Aces, SF 30th Anniversary, and Mario+Rabbids in preparation of Donkey Kong DLC. Some Tetris/Puyo and Aqua Kitty UDX
Mario tennis aces. Quality players online, can never win a final but gotta git good
Mario Tennis Aces and Splatoon. Aces has me hooked already, I absolutely love the high intensity quick action.
Monster hunter xx
Tried Mario Tennis Aces, never even won once. I suck at this game...but will probably still buy the full game LOL
West of Loathing. It's actually a really interesting game. Enjoying it so far.
There shall also be a sprinkle of Hyrule Warriors and Mario Tennis Aces in my weekend schedule as well.
I just finished my first run at Mario Tennis Aces. It took me a while to wrap my head around all the stuff that is going on in Standart mode, but finally I managed to win a match (by K.O. though) just now.
Still, while I was a bit taken aback at first by the absolutely cheap looking tutorial textboxes (coming straight from like 150h of the style-oozing Persona 5 last month^^), I quickly came to really appreciate the games smoothness and deepth, paired with the typical upbeat Mario charm. Depending on the quality of the online experience going forward and of the single-player, I think this could be a winner. I have zero doubt that local multiplayer will be blast for sure.
I wish there was a way to try out simple rules in the demo, because I'm curious how that'll play out competitively (standart is really a lot to keep track of imho, plus it feels quite arcade'y that way, some saves with trick-shots felt almost like cheating to me at first ^^), but I'm getting the sense from the 1st tutorial section, that Simple mode might actually feel alot like Virtua Tennis (more than anything else available for sure). So I consider that to be a huge piece of icing on this particular cake, almost a game within the game.
Other than that, I'm hoping to finish to Blackwood Crossing and continue my current Nier run.
It's either a full server or Luigi's junk that's causing a bit of play lag on mario aces...
Definitely more Street Fighter. Been playing all the games all week and loving each one.
A!so, I might try another crack at the ultimate challenges/finish any other remaining regular challenges in Mario+Rabbids.
Mario Aces for me (sorry Ikaruga). Such a fun game.
This weekend i play 3DS games.
1. Nintendogs + Cats: Toy Poodle and Friends 3DS
Long time no play. I checked my Pomeranian still recognized his name when i called him.
2. Style Savvy Fashion Forward 3DS
Same, long time no play. Still managed my boutique and restocked some clothes.
3. Pokemon Sun 3DS
Levelling up my Pokemons, continue the storyline until reached Route 6.
4. Dillon's Dead-Heat Breaker 3DS e-shop
For the first time i was kinda interested with this Action Strategy games. I was tempted with Amiimals and the Mini games inside the game. But, unfortunately... no Physical retail for USA version, so i decided to buy the e-shop version for USA version, buy again the Europe Retail version later for having the Physical retail.
Isaac, of course. Am taking a break from trying to defeat Mega Satan with The Lost, by trying to beat Greed mode with The Lost instead. 😊
SteamWorld Dig 2 and Mario Tennis Aces later. Bot a fan of tennis and I have no strong feelings about Mario, but we'll see.
I'm playing Mario Tennis Aces and Yoku's island express
Won 2 tourneys yesterday so back to one piece and hyrule warriors for me. Got 100% on great sea map and 67% on adventure map 60 hours in....
Might finish Chapter 5 of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but I've dipped my toe into Mario Tennis Aces, and I like what I see. It actually seems like it might be fairly challenging, and the focus on special moves means it is much more of its own beast rather than a tennis simulation (which is both good and bad). I also fired up the Sushi Strikers demo for the first time last night - it's hilarious.
Gonna play Mega Man 9 30 times for an achievement... lol, just kidding (who even came up with these BS challenges, anyway?). I'm really gonna spend some time on MMLC2, then start P5.
If anyone was wondering who on earth voted for Ultra Smash ,it was me. Don't worry it was a mistake.
I'll be playing the superb Tennis Aces and flipping my TV on its side and trying to get get good at Ikaruga,I'm sure I'll fit in some Street Fighter and FIFA World Cup too.
Hyrule Warriors Grinding, Mario Tennis and The Crew 2 on the ps4.
Playing Mario Tennis here and there, plus I’m harvesting as many Pagies in Yooka Laylee as I possibly can, though I don’t think I’ll manage to get the ones from collecting all 200 quills in each world. How in the world am I supposed to keep track of them?
One game I’m not playing: Pokémon Quest. And the phrase “playing Pokémon Quest” is an oxymoron. That game plays itself and bores me to tears in the process.
Going to give Mario Aces a shot and then login to Sea of Thieves to fight the Megladon.
I've pre-ordered Mario Tennis Aces, so feel like playing the online tournament will dilute my initial excitement when I finally get it
So we're still working through Odyssey (as new Switch owners!). Loving every minute.
I've been playing Mario Tennis Aces and despite all the new fancy moves, most of my success has been down to just playing better tennis.
Also getting round to building some Labo with my stepson and it's truly remarkable how well designed this is and fantastic value for money. Built the house and remote control car, today is the fishing rod 😁
Dig 2, Rocket League and have just bought Ni No Kuni 2 so would like to start that.
Will be continuing my way through Doom on the switch as well as finishing mega man 3 and hopefully making a start on 4. Really enjoying the legacy collection. Also really tempted by Yoku’s island express
Great selections, guys and girls! Oh, I forgot to mention that I’ll be playing Mario Tennis Aces too... thought I should say just in case I looked out of place from the other writers 😂
Top priorities: Wario Land 2 and Knuckles’ Chaotix. If there’s time, maybe some Arms or DSi Rayman.
@1UP_MARIO I wish I had your patience.
1. Bloodstained Curse of the Moon
2. Portal Knights
3. Skyrim
4. Fallout New Vegas
Tumblestone and maybe some more Xenoblade Chronicles X. Also have to finish up a few of the SNES Classic games I have been messing around with.
I find Mario Tennis to be almost as boring as real tennis. Back and forth, miss, back and forth, miss. Yawn.
Playing Oxenfree and quite a bit of Pokémon Quest.
Right now i'm playing Project X Zone and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon on my 3DS. I don't have and i don't need a Switch right now, my DS and 3DS backlog is way too big, to justify the purchase of a new console.
I already finished Yoku's Island Express. Awesome little game. ICEY has positive user reviews on Steam, so I might get that one on the Switch. But I'm finishing RAGE on the PC and Uncharted 4 on the PS4.
After finally buying doom that's what i will be mainly playing and if i want a break from that either skyrim or botw
I’m visiting my parents this weekend before they leave on a six month trip for work so I was only able to bring my Switch. I’ll be playing Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Kart 8, and Splatoon 2. All games I can jump in and out of and don’t have to commit a lot time to. I’m also going to a city an hour and a half away to watch Deadpool 2, eat at a new restaurant, and do some shopping. Going to be a fun weekend.
Definitely street fighter 30th. Having a blast with that and the nes30 arcade stick. Surprised it didn't get much love from the editors or on the poll.
I actually got Songbringer on Switch and so far enjoying the exploration and seeing new things :+).
Playing ikaruga for the first time. Loving it. Also waiting for my kickstarter code for curse of the moon. That game looks awesome.
Some Pokemon Quest, some Mario Tennis Aces... and over 20 hours in Strange Journey Redux already. And I've barely started the second sector and the remake's new story/dungeon content so far. Nuff said.
On Sony side, continuing to get my RP fix after three months of connection issues - including Just Cause 3 (the thing proved so much fun, I'm struggling put it down until after I'm through with the earlier entries) and the closed beta of The Crew 2. Never played the first one, so this impressed me a lot - from vehicle variety to an open world America to drive around to a convincing cockpit view option to... a fully Vita-geared control scheme??? In 2018?!! Shut up and take my money, Ubisoft.
I’ll mostly be on the PS4 playing the Street Fighter Anniversary collection. If I do play anything on Switch it will probably Mario Kart 8 and maybe I’ll try out that Mario Tennis game.
Mario Tennis Aces, SteamWorld Dig 2, and Splatoon 2!
I dipped into aces for a bit but even though is good I don't think it is for me (I did around 15 matches with no lag have to say) and I have to come back to Naruto! The game is basic as hell but it is fan service at is best (already 70h+ into it...)
Just got a physical copy of Owlboy, so I’m giving that a go right now. Such a fun and beautiful game. I might give Quest a go too, and if there’s time, I can do a few quests for Skyrim.
Pokemon Quest here and there. SF30th a lot. Need to fire up West of Loathing (huge fan of the original web game, Kingdom of Loathing), and some Pixeljunk Monsters 2.
Just brought nights of azure 2 so will try that out and probably play some bayonetta.
All I will be playing this weekend is Pokémon 3DS games. We’ve misplaced the Switch so can’t do anything on that at all. Plus gotta do some tidying up the house because my dad is coming next weekend for my eldest son’s 11th birthday.
@Richard_Atkinson lol I gave up. I don’t think I can ever win a final. Every time I do go there it is always a lag problem or sweaty palms
enjoying what I can out of the Aces demo, but there is way too much lag.
Mario Tennis Aces demo, it has been very fun apart from the lag, hopefully the full game doesn't have this lag problem.
@Crossface oooooo. I've been eyeing that, please let me know what ya think.
Dark Souls 3
Darkest Dungeon for the most part. I've been playing for about a week now, getting to the point where I no longer feel like my heroes are made of tissue paper and having an inordinate amount of fun.
Downloaded the Mario Tennis demo and tried a little bit of it last night, might give it another go later today.
I'm also downloading Paladins on Steam, mostly to see what that's about for when it comes to Switch. I really don't get into playing on PC anymore as the Switch is much more convenient.
Also taking the kids to see Solo today.
Still chugging along through Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. I have come to like it and am glad I listened to a certain person on this site when he was raving about how good it was. But for some reason I prefer to play it a couple levels at a time. Just finished off World 4.
Also playing a bit of Pokemon Quest, because why not? And I have been playing through Xenoblade Chronicles again. On my way to break into Colony 6 and save Juju again.
We bought "The Flame In The Flood" a few days ago on sale and that's been our main squeeze. We also got our PS4 back from being fixed, so I've started playing "Fallout 4" again.
All PS4 again. God of War and Detroit: Become Human. Really enjoying both.
I'm finally playing West of Loathing. It was my most anticipated indie title from the Nindies Direct back in March. Pokémon Quest doesn't interest me but I will be putting in my pre orders for the Let's Go games
That Legend of Kay review sure is taking a long time. Pretty sure Dom was playing it last week too.
Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to play the Aces online demo. 😕
However, I recently purchased the Mega Man Legacy Collection, and am stuck in the first Dr. Wily stage of Mega Man 1! 😃
I also got Human: Fall Flat on sale, so I'll be messing around with that some.
And ARMS, of course. What more do you expect from me??
Everyone have a wonderful, safe, and blessed weekend! 😄
Edit: Turns out I did get to play the Mario Tennis demo, and it's a ton of fun when it's not laggy as heck! I really, really wish I had the money to prepurchase on the eShop so I could get those double Gold Points...
Mario + Rabbids finishing up challenges readying for DK DLC, Mario Tennis Aces vs CP
Child of Light on PS4. Really digging the increasingly nuanced JRPG-ish battle system and the enchanting fairy tale atmosphere.
Tried Mario Aces. Not for me.
Still have a million billion hours worth of Hyrule Warriors to play. Maybe some more Megaman and Bloodstained when I'm alone.
Game Boy:
Pokemon Red Version - Just replaced the battery now I'm getting ready to start again.
Windows Phone:
Jetpack Joyride
Kinectimals Unleashed
Playing Chrono Trigger on NDS at the moment.
Splatoon 2 (that's a mainstay), Mario Tennis Aces (I understand how to play now and love it so far), and got my code for the retro Bloodstained game so I'll play through that one. XC2 is on the list if I can manage to play it while supporting my wife's business. Switch has no shortage of games, imo.
Shin Megami: Strange Journey is so good. Atlus has sucked me in this weekend. I have stopped playing Battle Chasers and moved on to higher pasters.
Mario tennis bit of Pokemon quest and fifa 18
So no labo then, eh?
Regarding Aces online lag, don't fret guys. DeNA is on the job 👌👌👌
Finish up some final loose ends in NinoKuni2. Monster Hunter World new event Quest.
maybe Starting EarthLock. But after 3 weeks of traveling - I want to play epic stuff with a pint 😊
After spending a few days away from it as I was out of state, I'll be continuing with Twilight Princess HD on the Wii U. I finished Snowpeak Ruins last night (weird dungeon) and spent the rest of that session
getting cheated by Henaplaying Rollgoal of all things. If there wasn't a sweet reward at the end, I would only bother with the Frog Lure.I also might shove in some Ever Oasis. I wound up not taking my 3DS on my trip, so I'm also overdue for some handheld gaming.
I am playing Smoke and Sacrifice. And....... (@darkfenrir sorry I decided not to wait till Q3...) Moonlighter PS4 Remote-play between my Vita and (more comfortable than TV) Computer.
I switch between these 2 when my lil girl wants to play Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (just got this like 4 days ago)
Playing Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ on my PC, almost finishing it so I hope I can finish it before next week comes. (Then I can play Cultist Simulator! So excited to play that game, plays really cool too)
@UnknownReader It's ok, play it however you want xD
And have fun at Smoke and Sacrifice, that one looks cool
I’ll probably download the Aces demo today, but I’m spending the majority of the weekend researching 3D printing and hopefully purchasing a 3D printer. Now I should probably learn to model in 3D, lol
I picked up Death Road to Canada and immediately regretted it. Didn't like it at all.
Decided to give it another try and got hooked, I've now ploughed 30 hours into it in just a few days. I don't think I've ever had such a turnaround with a game before, it's great.
Also still playing my trusty 3DS. About 40 hours into Dragon Quest VII (so the beginning, ha!) and loving that too. The portable form factor and vignette style of play is a nice match.
@darkfenrir I Played the standard version of Tokyo Xanadu JP ver. on Vita. What extra or anything difference on the Ex+, do you know ?
Oh yeah Smoke and Sacrifice is fun and they kind of don't hold you hand. But they make it easy enough that each new day, Jugs/container you smash will re-spawn
I finally got a good rhythm down in Harvest Moon, so I’ll be playing that after IRL harvest my grapes. I’ll probably play some more Aces tonight. I’m liking how fast and smooth (my experience, anyway) the tournament is, but was wishing the demo would have motion controls
@UnknownReader Let me check... https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/191386-tokyo-xanadu-ex/76101071
Here, this link shows the differences. So far I find it's really excellent game- except a lot of niggling annoyances on the story, as well as the fact that they reuse A LOT of the music (Some remixes will go a looooong way for that >.<) Often I felt like the music didn't feel fitting on that part of the game, and the changes are often too jarring.
And that's awesome, rip for that respawning though. I think I'll wait for Dead Cells / Hollow Knight for now (then buy West of Loathing xD)
Just playing Street fighter lol
Well, i have a 4 day old baby, but still trying to fit those games when he's napping! 😉👌 Im playing Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Mario Tennis Aces and Ikaruga!
Street Fighter III New Generation! The best SF III version!
Fifa World Cup!
Donkey Kong - Finally got to the hidden world!
A lot of Runner 3, a good amount of Mario Tennis Aces despite being terrible at it, and a little Bloodstained Curse of the Moon. Maybe a sprinkle of Gotcha Racing 2
Finally got round to getting Steamworld Dig 2 so tucking into that!
Mario Tennis Aces. Fun game so far, but I haven't played much yet.
The Crew 2, PES 2018, Splatoon2, maybe FM18.
Maybe I'll give Mario Tennis a try too but I'm not really interested in it.
More Picross (about 45 puzzles left of the 300) to start. Then Binding of Isaac which is rapidly cementing itself as one of my all time favourites as my main. Few (very) short games of Ikaruga for dessert.
Salmon Run.
Lots and LOTS of Salmon Run. Gotta grind past Pro 100 again, lol.
Continuing my journey in Skyrim. Such a great port.
I've also been checking out Mario Tennis Aces. Absolutely loving so far.
I played some of the Mario Tennis Aces, it's okay I guess. The special moves seem to go overboard and it makes it so traditional tennis strategy is pretty much removed from the game. It feels like a battle over who can spam the special moves the most. Being able to slow down time just feels cheap, the trick shots feel cheap, and the power shots that can break rackets feel especially cheap. I honestly feel like I would have a much better time with this game if it didn't have all this getting in the way of actual tennis competition.
The way I see it playing the game with power-ups is just there for gamers who have no real interest or skill at real tennis. It's a good thing they are letting you play the game without all this nonsense in the full version. So far the demo has been pretty lame, especially due to the incredibly easy CPU they have and the messed up online matchmaking that seems to consistently pair you with people who are way out of your league or have bad connections.
As it is right now, the tournament demo seems to just serve as a means for me to see what the game looks like in action. It's interesting, and I think the power-ups will work a lot better in single player, so it makes me look forward to the full game more than anything. I am pretty much over the demo experience though, I just don't really enjoy what it has to offer at this moment.
So... I have been trying Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on my new Vita... it's only my second MGS title after Snake Eater on 3DS. Whilst I enjoyed that, I really find these stealth games do not come naturally. I'm all over the place with this one, getting shot to pieces! I'm actually missing the controls of the Circle Pad Pro - it looked awful but it was really comfortable and felt like a home console experience.
Mario Tennis on the N64 is an all time classic.
Dragon Quest VI, but if I owned a Switch, I'd be playing Mario Tennis...
Played a couple of hours of Mario Tennis.
My fiance told me later that day that she had pre-ordered it for me, due to seeing how much I was enjoying it!
Online was great fun, although I'm mostly looking forward to the story mode. Now please please please announce a new Mario Golf on Switch.
Low key love Mario Tennis Aces, but you always know you're screwed when you come across a Chain Chomp online...
Mario Tennis Aces demo for sure. I'll continue on with Resident Evil Revelations 2 and I've been running through Blaster Master Zero with Gunvolt. I may even dabble a touch in MK8D if possible.
Finished Battle Chasers earlier this week (awesome RPG) so I'll mostly be destroying my right thumb in Mario Tennis and my left thumb in Street Fighter. Aside from that, chipping away at Tropical Freeze, just beat the 5th world boss, Ikaruga, Steredenn, and Mega Man.
Yeah, the free weekend for Mario Aces has convinced me of what I already knew, I can't compete with 12 year-olds that have probably been up all night playing it. The single player will need to be really worth it for me to pick this one up.
Aces demo - though as with others, I can't compete with 12-year olds that have been up all night playing it.
Just finished Legend Mode on Easy, and the 1st Adventure Map on Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. Working on Great Sea Map!
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary and Mario Tennis that is all I need this weekend.
I just bought Metal Gear Rising on PS3 really cheap and apparently is like 5 hours long, so maybe I will finish It. Other than that, Mario Tennis.
Mainly trying to get 100% on Yoku's Island Express. Fantastic game!
Also, some "Sumer" local multiplayer. And Mario Tennis, although I didn't like it that much so far.
Yoku's Island Express!
I'd love to tell you I'm playing Street Fighter 30th Anniversary this weekend but when I go to order it for Switch and see the same game, with the same content, that launched at the same time for over £10 cheaper on PS4..? I can't bring myself to do it. It's not fair and someone is taking advantage of Switch owners. I don't know if it's Capcom, Nintendo, the retailers or all of the above but we should really do something about it... Anyway, I WILL be playing DOOM, finally beat it and now I'm finding the last of the secrets. What a game. Tried some Mario Tennis too, really fun. Have a good weekend everyone.
@fox_mattcloud aw fantastic congratulations, enjoy, beautiful!
There couldn't be anything I'd play this weekend except Street Fighter 30th. I've waited over 26 years for arcade-perfect Street Fighter II at home. It took a long time to get here, but it was worth the wait! I haven't played many of the other Street Fighters at arcades, but the variations of SF II feel completely untouched (except for the inexplicable logo change on Guile's stage, dammit)! Even demo fights in attract mode are the same as I remember!
It looks like I'm in the minority in being so happy with the arcade version purity, however. I've read so much displeasure that the different games don't have features from home versions, like the added characters in the PlayStation Street Fighter Alpha 3. I thought it was made clear in the beginning that these are the arcade versions. When Street Fighter II hit the SNES almost 26 years ago, gamers would've gone crazy for arcade-perfect ANYTHING on consoles! Now, in 2018, gamers are unhappy with arcade-perfect ports. When did I become old? :/ I guess I should change to old sage Tellah for my Final Fantasy IV avatar.
Also, FINALLY Street Fighter III (Capcom CAN count to three ), and SF Alpha: Warriors' Dreams on a Nintendo system!
I'm also getting my retro Mega Man on with Legacy Collection 1 between Street Fighter II nostalgia trips! What a time to be a retro gamer this year, with Arcade Archives, SF 30th, Mega Man & Mega Man X Legacy, and SNK 40th Anniversary Collection!
Street Fighter 30th and Ikaruga for the Weekly Shmup Challenge for me.
Is it just me, or are the special codes for playing different characters not working as they should? I've been trying to use Dan in Alpha 1 but when I get to MK in the code, it chooses a character instead?
@MH4 MM1, you say? Which part of the 1st Wily stage are you stuck at?
Not really playing Nintendo this weekend. I played some Mario Kart 8 DX with a friend last night, but otherwise my gaming time has been spent on Persona 5.
I’ve been playing Splatoon 2.
I played a bit of Mario Tennis. So far I’m liking it but there’s so much going on on each match that I can’t get a single shot right.
I bought ICEY but I haven’t even launched it yet because I also bought Blazblue Cross Tag Battle too and that’s going to take most of my time but I’m reserving a few minutes each day to Pokémon Quest and The Snack World Trejarers Gold too.
I' hooked on the new Aces demo although, I'm sad that Luigi in all his bulging glory is absent.
@masterLEON it's this section after the part with all the green platform enemies. It's shaped like a sideways "S" and I don't see anywhere I can jump to. The solution's probably right in front of my face, but I can't see it. 😂
Been loving the Tennis Aces demo, I never got further than round 2 after a few games, but I'll try again tomorrow, I've had some great close tie break matches where I've been laughing a lot.
Played a little bit of Dragon Blaze, damn that game is hard and I tried the ARMS demo, and I'm sold. The motion controls feel good in that game and it's all flicks of the wrist rather than full arm motions.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon for me. Very nice game for those into that style.
@MH4 Magnet beam
@masterLEON Thanks! 😊
@masterLEON After some research it occurred to me that I never actually got the magnet beam. So there's my problem. 😂
@MH4 I made that same mistake 30 years ago Good luck on the Yellow Devil, and the last Wily stage!
@masterLEON I beat Yellow Devil, but now I'm stuck on the Robot Master refights! 😂 Thanks again for your help! I'm really enjoying this game (and am using the rewind feature an embarrassing amount 😅)
Battle Chasers: Night War
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap
@Tyranexx Playing through TP myself and in the same dungeon. Really liked the game so far. Thinking about picking up Ever Oasis too with Nintendo points.
PS4: CoD: WWII, Overwatch, Assassin's Creed Origins
Mobile: Game Dev Tycoon
@1UP_MARIO right there with ya, buddy!
@Pokefanmum82 Snap! It was my eldest son's 11th last week. (His main presents being labo and botw dlc pass). My dad was up last weekend to celebrate... he said to my son, "So, how does it feel to be in double digits now?" Sigh.
So this weekend we have a mario kart 8 tournament on the wii u with a bunch of his mates. And I've been getting in a bit of mario tennis aces (loving it, despite a few laggy matches). Also got in a bit of 'physical' (in a geeky way) gaming at a board game expo at the nec in Birmingham (uk... not Alabama).
Happy gaming everyone 😀
@Ralizah Loved Child of Light on wii u. Still listen to the soundtrack by Coeur de Pirate every now and then.
Tried out Pokémon Quest... a bit addictive for the first 20 minutes but so little gameplay, I'll probably never play it again. Or maybe I will, but would never admit liking it even to myself
Played some Mario Tennis Aces as well and realised I'm mediocre; I usually get beat in round 2 or 3. Can't decide how I feel about the game; I really want a more old school Super Tennis kind of game with less frills and more skill involved with placement of shots. I'd love if you could strike "out" to the sides and in length depending on your position and tilt of analogue stick, but it just seems impossible - you "always" hit the court. Skill now seems to be more related to getting into the stars to hit harder and using your super powers smarter. At least good positioning plays a part. Still, a fun game. And yeah, I pre-ordered after playing tourneys online so can't be all bad haha.
Game I would have liked to play this weekend: Splatoon 2.
@darkfenrir Thanks for the link. I did like the game thou, the dungeon is like trails of cold steel. But….
Battle Changes: Combat has been made a lot more difficult than the Vita version.. .This here already made me glad I just play the standard, lol! I’ll probably throw my Vita against the wall if I have to repeat battle countless time because my fingers don’t work the way I want them too (switching of the characters to fight), lol!
I'll be playing GTA V, replay Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Mario Maker and maybe Fire Emblem: Fates if I have time for the latter.
@UnknownReader Yeah, I really like the game too! Just some of those niggling parts make me frown.
And about difficulty... well, I'm playing it on Easy so I guess I don't get hit with it
<-- the type that play on Easy modo always
Not Mario Tennis, I know that.
...Also, the mods should get more love with these types of articles. TwT lol
Smash Bros on the Wii U.
Just as I started really getting into Aegis Defenders, West of Loathing was released and ALL OTHER GAMES HAVE BECOME MEANINGLESS.
@dcstud: Glad that you're likewise enjoying TP! This is my second full time through the game (the first being the Wii version back in the day), and I'm really enjoying it. It was my first Zelda game, so as a now-veteran I'm picking up all sorts of references to the other games that I didn't catch at the time.
I'm amazed at how much I've been enjoying Ever Oasis. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy the Oasis building as I thought that would be the area of the game that I would dislike. I wouldn't call it GOTY material, but it's a decently fun game that I feel like was probably ignored by many.
Once I finally wrapped my head around all the shots in tennis aces .. I became hooked
-Slowly unlocked every demo character (saves carry over??)
-Waluigi is my main ❤️
it was awesome
