Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario Party Superstars

luke88

My main problem is with the "reviews" for the game, specifically with the online. By now I'm basically used to NLife's single sentence referring to online options in their reviews, but It's just not good enough.

Especially considering Nintendo's woeful online track record, review sites like this one need to be a bit more thorough, in my opinion.

For example, having read the NLife review, does anyone know:

Is there any voice chat?
How many players can play across how many consoles? (Super Mario party players may know why I ask)
What happens if one random player quits? Are they seamlessly replaced with an AI?

All basic questions. So many more need answering before we have a complete picture of this game. Love this site and hate to complain, but this isn't the first time your reviews have been horrendously inadequate when it comes to online.

@BenAV I actually picked up Mario tennis aces a few days ago. I believe it's received a lot of post launch content updates and balance patches. It's a really great game now. Just wish a few more people were playing online. Come back to it, friend! 😂

It's a little difficult to justify Nintendo charging us to play online, when online features in their own flagship titles are so poorly implemented.

What was the last big, new first party game Nintendo released? Animal crossing? Is it time to admit that, for us Wii U owners, Nintendo hasn't really delivered on switch thus far?

This is a great game, though! I'm sure lots of people will love it.

@DonkeyKongBigBoy haha, £24.99 isn't free, little guy.

Pay for patches? This was a full priced game, if 2K and their subsidiaries released finished products patches wouldn't be necessary. You want people to pay again for companies to fix the games they have already paid for?

2K are hosting dedicated servers for this? How much does maintenance cost?

And other stuff? Ha, okay, champ.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Card Games, Board Games And Deck Builders

@dartmonkey I’m through the tutorial and I played a complete single player game without any crashes! Hoping the online holds up.

Please don’t worry about it! It seems to have been changed post release and made less stable but am hoping it was mostly just the tutorial! When devs change things post release there’s really nothing you guys can fairly be expected to do. Apologies if my earlier message seemed abrupt, I actually came back online to delete it. Thanks so much for the response, though

Hi @dartmonkey , has anyone from the the NLife team played Armello recently? I bought it, as did several of my friends when I asked them to, after I saw it on this list and read the NLife review.

The game is in a utterly dreadful state, as a result of updates I think. I’ve had three crashes in the first 15 minutes of the tutorial. My friends have had loads of crashes, too. You really shouldn’t be recommending this game as it is now.

@NorwegianMate thanks for the review! Disappointed that nothing about online options and connectivity was included in the NLife review.

Have you played with any friends online? Can you tell me anything about the options? Iif there’s a disconnect can you pick up where you left off with your online friend? Or is that round just gone. Many thanks for any advice!

Played this for a few hours today, the mode where you have to take/defend three points is rather good. It’s all pretty basic but the maps are solid, some good choke points and respawn points make sense - don’t often get shot in the back, unlike COD. Handheld doesn’t work very well but on a big tv with the pro controller it’s quite good fun.

@VoodooTrumpet Do you ever go to the cinema, buy some snacks and maybe have dinner after? Because that experience will surely set you back more than this game, as will many others we rarely question the value of.

I don't mean to have a go, and I know what it feels like to worry about money, but I find it disheartening to read here, and elsewhere, how little value some 'gamers' actually place on great games.

Re: Soapbox: Mario Kart Tour Looks Lousy With F2P Trappings, But That’s All Right

@dartmonkey

"Maybe I should be looking at it a different way. All these mobile entries in my favourite franchises enable Nintendo to have its cake and eat it, gaining exposure for its IP on every smart device going, raking in the big bucks from the whales willing to blow £64.99 on 135 Rubies and keeping all those exhausting mobile trappings locked away where they belong. At least they’re all quarantined away on phones while the full-fat experiences exist safely isolated from the lure of the loot box. At least they won’t infect the ‘proper’ Nintendo games!... Will they?”

This is in fairly poor taste. You're talking pretty flippantly about a corporation taking advantage of people who often have issues with compulsive spending, and other addictive personality problems, as well as children. Are you happy about that, if it keeps such monetisation out of the games you like? The AAA industry has nothing but contempt for us, that much is clear, but I don't expect that kind of nonsense here. Poor form, friend.
