Following yesterday's reveal of Wii retail games on the Wii U eShop, plenty will have been tempted courtesy of the reduced prices in launch week. Nintendo of America's gone beyond that to use the first Wii release as an excuse for a "Throwback Sale", with six games discounted following today's update until 22nd January.
The following titles will all be on discount in North America in the coming week.
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 - $9.99 (normally $19.99)
- Super Mario 3D World - $44.99 (normally $59.99)
- Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island - $5.99 (normally $7.99)
- Yoshi's New Island - $29.99 (normally $39.99)
- Pushmo - $3.49 (normally $6.99)
- Pushmo World - $7.49 (normally $9.99)
There are some decent games in that list; are any of you in North America planning to pick these up?

I have the disc, but I may get Galaxy 2 again. I know I will with Prime Trilogy so I don't take risks with the disc.
What titles? There's just a blank space.
SM Galaxy and Pushmo World for me. Pushmo was gr8 on the 3DS and more levels is enough for me.
I missed out on the Mario Galaxy games, so I bought Galaxy 2 the moment the Direct ended.
It's pretty fun. I absolutely cannot wait to be able to sit down and enjoy it properly.
I still need to finish Super Mario Galaxy 1 with Luigi before i start on SMG2.
When I saw this on the eshop yesterday I thought it was some kind of cross buy promotion based on the wording in the eshop description. Like buy Yoshi's new island get the gba vc version...that would've been pretty dang sweet!
Decided to buy SMG2 since I skipped that one. I actually brought out my SNES with Yoshi's Island a month back and started playing that again, after seeing the VC version. Now I can't wait for Metroid Prime Trilogy to hit the e-shop, even though I have the original GC/Wii versions.
Also, what are some of the differences between Metroid Prime Trilogy and the original versions?
Of course Pushmo is on sale, we just bought it in December b/c Nintnedo never puts it's own games on sale in the eShop. (Have to remember that for next year, no sales until Jan) Though I did keep my kids from buying Pushmo on 3DS but for 1/2 price they can each get their own copy.
And we bought SMG2 on disc last year but I would highly recommend it to anyone else for $10.00. It was $30 used, somehow never making it to the Players Choice/Select line. Wii U needs a Select line but I'll take a continuous helping of eShop sales in it's place.
Pushmo and Pushmo World for me. I'm hoping for a sale on Crashmo and both Dillon games at some point as well.
I picked up mario Galaxy 2, so I can use the physical copy towards preordering the new 3DS
@rjejr whatever happened to that line? Seriously, same happened with Kirbys return to dreamland AND Mario Sports Mix...
Well, I own Galaxy 1... I'll get Galaxy 2 for that price. The Rest.. i pretty much own except for one (or I guess two) which is pushmo.... which I don't care about.
Galaxy 2, no questions there.
@Platypus101 - We repurchased Kirby Return to Dreamland used for $50 along with SMG2 $30 used and Xenoblade $50 used (had a B2G1 coupon so it worked out to about $30 for each w/ my Gamestop Pro 10% discount). Still haven't played Xenoblade, my kids are still playing SMG2, and I think my youngest just wanted KribyRTD in the house.
Select line is probably a year out b/c Nitneod doesn't think 2 year old games like NSMBU and Lego City Undercover should be less than $50. Nitnedo Land is already $20 since it's a free pack in w/ a lot of the Wii U. I've been waiting for about a year for Ntinedo to launch an "eSelect" line on the eShop - kind of like Xbox Live and Sony PS+. If they keep having sales like this every month I'm ok w/ that. Though now that DDP is gone I do wish they would have some type of named promotion to advertise.
@rjejr
Are you really complaining for $2.50? As if paying full price for Pushmo World was not a steal to begin with. The only game of the "trilogy" I came close to completing was Crashmo. The last 10 puzzles were way too hard for me. And that is just the main game content.
@OfNullAndVoid All three use wii remote and nunchuck control like MP3 Corruption
@sinalefa - No, even I'm not poor enough to complain about $2.50, it's just about the timing.
Remember how I spent all of last year worried about the SSBU releasse date, and then it came out on time as scheduled just as Nintnedo said?
Then last Nov Kirby and the Rainbow Curse was announced as coming out Feb 13 and I never gave it another thought, just happy that it came out in time for my wife's 4 day weekend and my kids week off from school. Then yesterday Nintneod goes and pushes it back a week to the 20th. I know Jax always says a week doesn't matter, but when you are a kid in school a week off is much different than a week not off. It's all about the timing.
Whether I own them or not It's really good to see Nintendo put some of it's own games on sale for a change.
@rjejr
For release dates I agree, for sales I do not. As the quoted Jax says, you pay extra for the benefit of having the game before. Look at Capt Toad, how waiting for the amiibo compatibility would have been useless, so you did not waste time and enjoyed it before your intended time.
And the Nintendo website says these are weekly sales (no idea for how many weeks) so they will be having different games on sale next week, which is awesome. I would love to see Harmoknight or Sakura Samurai in there.
Bought them all (with the exception of SM3DW, as I already have that) interesting note, I was pleasantly surprised that Nintendo has widened the selection of games you can buy digitally on their eShop site. I'm getting my tires changed this morning, and I was able to buy what I wanted while waiting. So suffice to say, it will be waiting for me when I get home...
On a some what related note, I'm upset that I forgot my 3DS at home... I still need to finish A Link Between Worlds. Ha.
@sinalefa - Checked out the website and found thi son th ebottom of that page -
"Check them out on Nintendo eShop, and come back next week for new deals!"
Guess it will be on going for awhile at least. Everyone's a winner.
Downloaded SMG2 last night. Didn't realize I still needed a Wiimote facepalm
I just got my Wii U last month so I just (still) have the tablet controller.
@andyg1971 Thanks, I was wondering about that. So no any other changes beyond that?
Also, has anyone received any Club Nintendo coins for their SMG2 download? I checked my account today and didn't notice any way to earn coins, unlike other e-shop downloads. Are Wii e-shop downloads excluded?
@Stormrazor I got my refurbished WiiMote+Nunchuck from Nintendo for around $30
Already have 3D World & New Island, bought Galaxy 2- might get everything else in this sale too
These sales are nothing compared to the sales found on XBL and PSN
@tux_peng Yeah I happened to find a new Wiimote Plus / nunchuck bundle online for cheap too, so soon I'll be in business
I already own everything on this list, except for the digital copy of Galaxy 2, which I have no interest in, seeing as it's identical to the disc I already have.
Nothing interesting except for Super Mario Galaxy 2...
The only one I want already came with the system.
The deal on Super Mario Galaxy 2 was excellent, and it was a bit faster to launch this wii u game with the icon on the Wii U menu. The game looks great.
I will definitely be getting Punch Out, The Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Kirby's Return to Dreamland especially as those last two still command a high price. Getting the Trilogy for ten bucks nearly feels like robbery, and I already own them all!
Will Metroid Prime Trilogy really be 10 bucks? even for 20 it would seem like a steal. this is a dream come true for me since I never got the disc version. Looking forward to playing through those again! Between that and Smash and MH4U coming out and MM3D, so many games, so little time!
Nintendo doing sales on digital software? That's ... surprising.I'm not holding my breath for it ever happening again though,
@OfNullAndVoid
These are all ones that I know of (excluding the Wii remote and nunchuck support)
