It's Media Create Japanese chart results time again, with this week bringing more good news for the 3DS; the portable's been rather greedy in its success in recent times.
Super Robot Wars BX makes its début on 3DS in top spot, which looks noisy and fun based on the footage at the end of this article. In fact, the whole top 5 consists of games on Nintendo systems - Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer continues its good run in second place just ahead of Yo-kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad, while Splatoon flies the Wii U flag in fourth place.
- [3DS] Super Robot Wars BX (Bandai Namco, 08/20/15) – 98,366 (New)

- [Wii U] Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Nintendo, 12/06/14) – 2,227 (668,555)
Moving onto hardware, their are sales drops across the board for all platforms. Nevertheless the New 3DS LL (XL) holds in first place while the Wii U remains in five figures; last week's sales are in brackets.

A decent week for Nintendo, overall, with the 3DS in particular showing dominant form.

Not a big #1 but... still there
15 of 20 games. Nintendo doesn't look so doomed today. If NX is a Wii U w/ a portable Gamepad that replaces both Wii U and 3DS it could do really well in Japan.
@rjejr The problem is outside of Japan no one takes them seriously. Nintendo fans outside of Japan are a dying breed and that use to be Nintendo's biggest market.
Splatoon keeps chugging away!
Is it wrong that I want a Transformers G1 or Beast Wars game like this?
I love that the handhelds dominate. Think Super Robot Wars BX will be localized? The DS and GBA iterations were.
@Spoony_Tech -Yeah I know the rest of the world has moved onto Sony and Microsoft. But still, I wonder if the Japan market is large enough to keep them going and the rest they take what they can get? Which is why no Wii U or 3DS price cuts, they keep selling in Japan? While I still think they should drop stand alone home consoles - they don't'sell in Japan and the rest of the world has moved on - they have enough brand recognition to not be "doomed" for awhile yet. I'm kind of getting sick of Ntinedo myself, but if NX is simply no more than a 3DS w/ TV out my family may buy 3 or 4.
uh, did that robot pilot just shout 'Breast Fire!'?
I can't watch all of it since I'm at work right now but the first minute or so of that video saw a cheesy smile on my face the entire time. xD Game reminds me a lot of the Disgaea series' special moves. I just wonder what the gameplay will be like.
@rjejr I still their next console has to have more sales then the Wii U. I may have just jinxed their next console but the Wii U is a pure concentration of hardcore nintendo fans who will buy any nintendo console.
@ollietaro Only those without licenced series (this does have that) so probably not sadly.
then super robot wars BX must be a good game isn't it? if it is, i might import the game from japan along side with Japanese 3DS
@rjejr - if NX is some sort of handheld hybrid that will play on the TV then I'm probably getting 2 or 3 as well. As someone who can't get into the handheld iterations of Nintendo products, if I had a gamepad that would go anywhere and still play on my big screen I'd be a buyer. I feel like I miss out on a lot of great games but the GBA (which I had and never used) games on VC have proved that I will sit on my couch and play them for hours when given the chance.
Please for the love of god bring it over to US! Playing LBX due to being no other mech game on the 3DS!! Too bad it will never see the glorious shining light of Merica cuz of licenicing issues with many of the robots outside of the Bandai fanchiese...
FE.......I'll miss you. Fates couldn't sell over half a million. This could be the last FE game out there.....
@Artwark What are you talking about?After 2 months, Awakening also sold exactly the same amount and was a great success, i.e., this is successful in exactly the same sense so far.
@Lastar What do you mean by 'licensed series'? Do you mean it has a tv show?
@Lastar It's not a total loss for me since Project X Zone has the exact same battle system.
@Artwark you know that the game haven't release in the west until 2016, so there is still a chance for another fire emblem game when it's release in the west
Good week for Nintendo. Super Robot Wars seems interesting, too bad it might never localized. Good Splatoon number, Wii U is still doing pretty good. Super Mario Maker should give Wii U another boost soon.
@Artwark it still selling and eventually would cross half-million mark, there is also the special edition to add. Also digital version is not tracked here, and we don't know how well the DLC sold.
@Gerbwmu - I still want to play several 3DS games but still don't have a 3DS. Playing Advance Wars on my 52" tv looked fine though. Nintneod made the Gameboy Player for Gamecube 12 years ago. Not sure why they can't figure out 3DS on Wii U. And since 3DS plays DS games as well, that's a whole lot of games. And Wii games. NX doesn't even need new games to sell, just let us play every home and handheld Ninteod game either home or away w/ 1 save point. New games would be a bonus. A double bonus as we wouldn't miss games like Luig's Mansion 2 or Kid Icarus or Pikmin 3 or W101. 1 console, 2 ways to play. I should trademark that.
Japan sure has a love for crappy games
@kiigu Ok I don't understand this.
Originally when New Super Mario Bros and Galaxy were released, NSMB sold more than Galaxy. So didn't that make Nintendo decide not to make any more Galaxy games now?
Also Other M was disappointing in terms of sales so now, we don't get to see a New Metroid game in years. And what about F-Zero? Again, a million mark usually tells a company that there's demand for a franchise. FE has demand but the way its selling right now is telling Nintendo that they might have to end it.
@hYdeks Honestly, that just sounds biased and ironic.
To wit: not a single PS4 game on the top 20.
@Artwark The game is selling better than Awakening, and that one was considered a great seller for the series. I'm pretty sure it'll cross one million sales worldwide.
@Artwark 1 million is a good number, besides, FE is SRPG, it's niche and to be fair, it past games didn't sell that much either. As long as FE games can sell at least 1 million copies worldwide (should be easy I think), I think it's safe to think the continuation of the franchise is secured. It also always have a great critical reception, so it's a game Nintendo want in their portfolio for each generation.
Galaxy did not continue, but Nintendo is placing that in main 3D Mario platformer category, so the 3D World is considered to be the successor of the Galaxy. Might not be the 3D Mario people want, but it still is a representative of 3D Mario game.
Other M, I don't know, I just think Nintendo might not know what to do with it after the poor reception and the budget is possibly too high. F-zero is probably also a case of Nintendo didn't know what to do with it anymore, especially as MK8 introduces anti-gravity and 200 cc mode. While Nintendo don't have a representative in FPS category, MK8 already represent racing category for Nintendo.
I think FE Fates is fine the way it's selling right now, however, a new home console FE is a different matter entirely, it could be going to be a handheld only game from now on. Obviously I was hoping it to sell better, but it still sells as good as previous entries, and there's also digital and DLC number that only Nintendo knows.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. I think we can start to worry if Fates flopped in the west, for now we can rest easy and anticipate to enjoy Fates in 2016.
@rjejr
Nintendo has stated multiple times that their next platform will not be a singular handheld-console hybrid, but rather a "family" of hardware (likely consisting of a handheld and a console) that share the same architecture, OS, and development tools. This way, the same or similar games can be made across both the console and the handheld.
Quote from Satoru Iwata in 2014:
"What we mean by integrating platforms is NOT integrating handhelds devices and home consoles to make only one machine. What we are aiming at is to integrate the architecture to form a common basis for software development so that we can make software assets more transferrable, and operating systems and their build-in applications more portable, regardless of form factor or performance of EACH platform."
@Artwark
FE Fates currently stands as the 2nd best selling game in the franchise in Japan, right behind Mystery of the Emblem. I am sure Nintendo is very happy about the game commercial performance, and even if they aren't, they almost certainly will be once Fates hits the west, where it will more than likely sell about as much or more than Awakening did.
MECHA! MECHA! MECHA!! MECHA!!! M3CHA!! MECH@!! MECHA!!1!
Geezuz ****ing crist! This is what Fire Emblem If could have been! Get wrrrrrecked!!
@ollietaro It features robots from TV shows. It's the series shtick since the Gameboy original all those decades ago - it brings together robots from different anime and manga to do battle together. It's easy in Japan since Bandai holds the licenses for producing stuff based on those IPs, all of them.
Outside of Japan, it's a fustercluck since there's dozens of exclusively licensed distributors for each separate anime for each country.
That is why the only games to be localized were Original Generation games - those that featured ONLY mecha created by Bandai specifically for the series.
@ohako Come on, Mazinger is the most famous non-Gundam franchise in there. "Rocket Punch!" "Rust Hurricane!" and "Breast Fire!" are more famous that "Go Go Power Rangers" or "Cowabunga", I promise.
@Jimtaro Transformers Rise of the Dark Spark on the 3DS is a poor man's Super Robot Wars. It's still worth owning, though.
@Aromaiden cough It's a western fan. You know, the battles like cornered porcupines kind because games aren't marketed to their demographic or culture due to being made in a vastly different region of the world with different expectations. It's a little bit racist honestly.
Aside from being happy to see Ninten doing well, I really like what NintendoLife has done here. I'm pretty sure more than a few people here didn't know anything about SRW BX and now that they've had some exposure they're interested.
I've always wanted to get a couple SRW games localized, so hopefully that'll happen in the near future.
@Platinumhobo With the crazy localization adventures of SRW W (reportedly built with the express purpose of being localizable for the West, then shafted because of GoLion/Voltron license-holders, which doesn't make it any less of the best modern Nintendo-platform SRW), I don't think that to be likely. The best we can hope for is either ATLUS taking another risk at localizing an Original Generations game — but we've already skipped three of those — or Bandai or someone else doing a Western Replacement Version using Transformers for example, like they did with Rise of Incarnates as a replacement for the unlicensable Gundam VS.
@westman98 But Iwata has passed, so I don't think it matters what he said anymore. BTW, didnt' Iwata also say Ntineod would never make games for mobile, even going so far as suggesting free-to-start was a scam? Don't listen to anything corporate bigwigs say, they change their mind whenever they want and forget what they said before, or simply say "Please understand". That didn't become Ieata's catchphrase b/c everything he stated came true, but b/c he was so frequently having to correct himself.

@rjejr
Iwata's passing will not affect what has already been done on the NX, and if it does (which will only occur if Nintendo's new CEO has a drastically different approach to building hardware than Iwata), then there is no way in hell NX will launch anytime within the next 18 months or so. I would be shocked if any major change are made to Nintendo strategy with the NX, especially a change as significant as merging their next handheld and console into one, singular device. Iwata's statement about Nintendo next generation platform(s) is a lot more than a "please understand" statement. It was and still is the most revealing statement the company themselves has made regarding the NX. Nintendo making mobile games was bound to happen as an additional part of their business, not matter now much they may have previously bashed mobile software.
