Now this is really odd, I'd have thought Nintendo would've got this saved for NX launch.
@Grumblevolcano I thought the same thing. They can release a NX version too
I'd love for them to include some sillier Pokémon such as Ludicolo, Barbaracle, or Exeggutor.
Hmm. Is the full roster already confirmed?
I think it's reasonable to assume the WiiU roster will be larger than the arcade one?
@Grumblevolcano We don't even know when the NX is coming why would they leave games that still have some hype behind them to die down?
I'm still hoping for Lopunny
@Grumblevolcano
Of course we don't know when the NX is coming. They are going to show it, I guess, at E3 but I may not come until 2017. Probably release it for both.
I am still hoping for Mewtwo.
Yeah!!!!!!
Well-played on that tagline, @Damo. Well-played.
Better start saving that amiibo money. I expect the whole roster to get one.
Why would you release this game on the Wiiu Nintendo? Why? Or will it still come to the NX somehow?
And perhaps it'll even have that teased NFC support, meaning... amiibo?
Or perhaps just a save-card system like many arcade games employ?
Now I am very happy to have been so profoundly wrong in the last article
Is it next year already?
YYYYYYYYeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
This is great news! I was hoping for this
Wonderful news. Also nice to see it on Wii U.
Awesome News!!!
@Jazzer94 Because it would make the NX launch seem more impressive, Nintendo can't afford another Wii U launch.
@rdrunner1178 I'm expecting a full unveiling of NX around March/April with launch either at the rumoured July or in November 2016.
There's got to be more to this game than the fighting tournament. I'm expecting some sort of story mode to go along with it.
Well, get out the Crayolas and colour me tickled pink!
Queue up all the Wii U isnt dead yet followed by what the (bleep) is Nintendo thinking sending NX out to die.
This is good news for Pokémon and Fighter fans alike. I'm surprised they didnt have a Direct to announce this. I wonder if Directs will be shelved for the time being?
My body is ready!
Finally. Also the arcade version is playable at Pokémon Worldchampionships. I went there one year too early.
Probably would've preferred Hawlucha over Pikachu Libre. really, they're just pandering towards attracting younger players to the game by utilizing a cosplay Pikachu despite the game being more realistic with impact damage, in a sense it's kind of similar to the Lucky Chloe situation.
Almost seems like a given that they're going to save Greninja as something more to reveal closer to release day. already used Smash in Japan as a cross promo to obtaining a Greninja in X/Y.
IT HAS HAPPENED! WE WIN!
Am I only one that wants Wigglytuff in this game!?
HAHA! YES!
Wow, I didn't think they'd actually bring this to Wii U.
I'm a little shocked, but VERY happy about this.
OHHHHH YAAAAAAA
YES!!!
Awesome! I'm much more into Street Fighter or KOF than Tekken, but I'll support this by buying out day one.
Urk, I feared this woul happen....
I informed myself about this game, and what I found out isn't surprising at all, but still worrying. According to several arcade players, the balancing is all over the place, but definitely not fair at all. Too many matches can be won effortlessly with projectile spam, i-frames are unnecessarily long for some characters, and the controls are mediocre, at best.
By now, I'm convinced that this is just a cheap Naruto Ninja Storm reskin, because I know these very issues from those horrible games, which means this game has lost all potenrial value to me. NamcoBandai once again proved that the best they can accomplish is cashing in on fanservice...
go to Google Images
finds picture of money
pretends to grab it
sees trailer
throwing motion at screen
YESS!!!
@ekreig - E3 was the first thing I thought also. Was "spring" too far out for them to show a home console Pokemon fighting game? They showed the original screenshot for this 2 years ago at the end of that Pokemon retrospective.
Most days I think they want Wii U to fail even more to justify an NX early launch date.
This is gonna sell a tonne of pokemon amibi!
Wonder why they didn't announce this at E3?
@abbyhitter
What if the Wii U version had RPG style exploration with the battles replaced by these fights? And you could still catch Pokemon when their health is low! It's definitely a stretch, but that would be amazing!
Just NOT in time for the holiday season. Ah well, the Wii u is dead anyway.
They picked Pikachu Libre over Hawlucha :' (
What's next, Dr. Lucario?
Good news!
**** YES!
I see a ton of comments on youtube that are complaining on this...
Are they for real? Do people not want Pokemon to try and expand its horizons a little bit?
"I just want Pokemon Z!"
Come on, don't ASK for the same ol' thing. Let them try new stuff. This is pretty different from Stadium and the mainline games obviously.
Good, predictable call to release this in their home system. Probably not for me - not until I get a good feel for its value anyway -, but considering how massive the Pokemon fanbase is, it should definitely move some hardware units.
@Plucky @SheldonRandoms
What!? Be right back, me and Oscar (my Hawlucha) are going to go Hi Jump Kick a bunch of wild Pikachus in the face for a while.
I'm pleased to see you... My body is ready!
Wow, a new Wii U exclusive??! Now I've seen everything.
Should've saved this for a Nintendo Direct. But since they didn't, it's probably true they're not doing those for a while...
The gameplay reminds me of the Dragon Ball, Shounen Jump All Stars and Naruto games. Which fits well, but I've never been a fan of this style of fighting game.
Not a Pokemon type, but it looks cool. Will consider later down the road.
@TwilightAngel ''still coming to NX?''
Was it ever confirmed to come to NX?
@-Godot That would almost make it a real Pokemon game. (Which I would kill to have on Wii U.)
I hope Hawlucha gets revealed as a new challenger because he was made and born to be in this game!
Oh Great!!!, Ok, to wait then for more info..
and, my pokemon wish list: I'm still hoping for Meloetta, XD
Bah doubt I can fight as crobat.... So what's the point???
@DarthNocturnal That'd require a truckload of fixing, honestly. Also, the game is already out in arcades, loketests apparently went through internally for the most part - at least I can hardly find any information regarding loketests. And seeing how NamcoBandai hardly bothered fixing balancing issues in most of their previous fighting games (both arcade and home releases), I'm not gonna get my hopes up.
About freakin' darn time. HYPE!!!
This is awesome. This is the first pokemon game I'm actually excited for. I'm still on crystal for the handheld versions so I feel like I have to play all the rest before getting any new ones. With this I can just jump right in though!
Yesssssssssssssss!!! but my ultimate dream will be fulfilled when I see a full fledged Pokemon game on a home console in HD.
@Grumblevolcano I don't know why you'd think that when they have said multiple times that they're not going to unveil NX until E3 2016. Nintendo has never launched a console 1 month after an E3 reveal. I expect them to follow their usual pattern by releasing it during Holiday of the following year, ie around November 2017.
Looks awesome! Hope this will be a big hit for Wii U
HYPE! I think this make ups for the lackluster E3 that we had.
Borrowing your tagline from Push Square I see.
@rjejr There were a fair few generic 2016 release dates for 3DS (+ 1 for Wii U) as well as 1 Spring 2016 so it wouldn't have been too far out. Here's the list of 2016:
Your logic of Nintendo wanting the Wii U to fail even worse to justify early NX release sounds reasonable.
Odd how Bandai Namco is both the developer and publisher for this game.....according to wiki.....
YES! YES! A thousand times yes!
FOR ONCE I'M ACTUALLY GLAD I BOUGHT MY WII U
So FE x SMT in February, Pokken in May, Zelda in Sept?
Maybe Project guard or Project Robot mixed in with a couple other random titles?
@Robotron2084 I agree , why do people want it to release on a platform that isn't available and nobody outside of Nintendo truly knows anything about ? It was obvious this would come to Wii U and will probably arrive in May , like MK8 and Splatoon , to fill the dry summer months with online multiplayer goodness. The game was probably not announced at E3 because it's a Pokemon Company game , and off the top of my head I cannot recall any Pokemon games been revealed at E3. Might shift a few systems , will definitely shift many Amiibo.
Oh no I am definitely just happy to see you! Wooohoooo Pokken.
Boing!
Am I the only one who is excited for that Pikachu?
And is it a seprate character, or is it just a costume change?
The lost me at pikachu libre... is it going to be a clone or a new fighter(based on lack of footage it will most likley be a clone)? I just want to see Mewtwo, Zoroarc, Chesnaught, Greninja, & Arceus playable.
@ekreig - "the biggest problem with their E3 event was that most of the Wii U games they showed were games folks already knew about."
I think that was only their 5th biggest problem. Biggest problem, well lets call it 1 and 1A, was Metroid Federation Force on 3DS instead of a new Prime on Wii U, and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival on Wii U being a board game rahter than a proper AC game. 2nd biggest was StarFox looking like an N64 port, and opening w/ that, leaving nothing but more suckiness after that. 3rd was mentioning NX at the beginning. 4th was not showing Zelda U, which does look good from what we've seen, but by opening w/ that NX comment but then NOT showing Zelda it made people question what system Zelda would be on and when it would release. In case you are new here Zelda U was supposed to release end of 2015 according to Ntinedo.
To be honest I'm not even sure what games you are refering to, other than Yoshi, which looks good and won't be out in the US, where E3 is based, until Oct, so it makes sense to get a lot of time at E3, it just doesn't make sense to come out in Oct in the US after June in the EU. And SMM which is worldwide 9/11 (but that's a whole other rant), so it deserved it's E3 time as well. But overall the entire thing was a travesty. Do they even have quality control at Ntinedo? Focus groups?
@Grumblevolcano - "Your logic of Nintendo wanting the Wii U to fail even worse to justify early NX release sounds reasonable."
It sounds like more of my pathetic negativity, but if you read the rest to get this far, then it sounds realistic. What was up w/ that E3 NDE?
Great! Can we also hope for the Luigi's Mansion arcade game to come to the Wii U.
@Grumblevolcano We have no idea what NX is apart from dedicated console that really doesn't tell us much, what if it is a handheld?
This is not the arcade game I'm looking for.
@rjejr I'd actually put "mentioning NX at the beginning" as the biggest problem, then 2 and 2A being Metroid Prime and Animal Crossing, 3rd would be no Zelda U, 4th would be knowing most of the Wii U games before the event and 5th being the huge focus on Super Mario Maker. All mentioning NX does is make the audience think you're abandoning Wii U very soon.
@Jazzer94 Tanabe confirmed NX is a home console with regards to the Metroid for home console debate. It might be a handheld but only in the form of both and handheld and home console at the same time.
WHOHOOO!! Awesome! Can't wait to play!
@Larrykoopa18 going through all the comments and your idea is the best by far! Wigglytuff would be awesome in HD!
Awesome♪
Reason has prevailed.
happy to see it coming! day 1 for me!
although i would not mind if it came to NX, but c'mon people we don't really know when NX is coming,and we don't know what it is (i would not be surprised if it was a console) but think about it. we get to inally play game, and you would rather wait for NX to come out in 2017? just to play this? (if that how they choose) imo i'm happy to see it coming to Wii U
THE HYPE FOR THIS IS OVERLOADING!!!! THE SHEER POSSIBLITIES!!! OHHHHH MYYYYYY **BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!**
I thought as much it would hit either Wii U or NX, but given Nintendo's obvious stance on backward compatibility, may as well be both. XDD
People after E3: OMG Nintendo, where are the Wii U games? What's wrong with you? Don't you want the console to sell?
announces Pokken Tournament for Wii U
People: OMG Nintendo, why are you putting this on Wii U? What's wrong with you? Don't you want the NX to be a success?
Nintendo fans are fast becoming the most irritatingly opinionated gamers out there.
@Yorumi " but did anyone buy tekken tag tournament? You never saw anyone hyped about that game, so they reskin tekking with pokemon and people are flipping over the game?" You just answered your own question friend. Of course people are hyped for this,this is the same thing like Hyrule Warriors. They will love it cause they have their favorite characters in it. And if this game didn't have pokemon next to it's name and the characters. It will sell like garbage on the Wiiu. Huh again that sounds like Hyrule Warriors.
@Robotron2084 AGREED FULLY
@Jese_1 You're totally right.
Consider this the last bone being sent Wii U's way. #bringonNX
It BETTER have online multiplayer not only be local multiplayer. If that's the case then scrap it, scrap it NOW
@Grumblevolcano They said the NX will be revealed next E3. Who would release a console just a few weeks after it got revealed.
@Grumblevolcano - Close enough. Though seeing somebody else spell it out like that really makes me wonder what they were thinking when that was OK'd as THE E3 video. (I hate using bold, but it seemed appropriate and necessary there.) Less yarn Yoshi lady, more Pokken Tournament. (I occasionally like to be on topic.)
@amiiboacid - "Who would release a console just a few weeks after it got revealed."
You really don't want to play the "Who would...?" game w/ Nintendo, do you? That is 1 slippery slope straight downhill into the abyss. amiibo stock, 2DS, new 3DS, Wii Mini. Wii Family. The list goes on and on.
Haha I must be the only person here who actually likes Bamco stuff...
I am not a fan of Pokemon but I have to admit that the game looks very fun.
As someone who likes the characters but doesn't enjoy turn based gameplay, this is the Pokemon game I've wanted since '98.
@rjejr why on earth would be the 2DS, new 3DS, Wii Mini and Wii Family slippery slopes?
@Yorumi I am going to guess that they were first waiting to see how it was received in the arcades before committing to porting it to a console. Why bother if the arcade game was considered a flop by the arcade audience?
"Is that a monster in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?"
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@minotaurgamer I believe he's referring to how all of those things were botched in some way shape or form and rubbed folks the wrong way.
About time Good news for Wii U users.
lol...have fun waiting 2 or 3 years for it to be loca- finishes trailer, oh....
@Grumblevolcano I still don't agree with your mindset they could easily port this in the future if it proves to be popular.
@Henmii
"Just not in time for holiday season. Ah well, the Wii U is dead anyways"
What a flamer comment to make. And to be frank, just flat out wrong at that. To say a console is dead- any console for that matter-in the very same article announcing another hype game for it, is to flame bait. And it's untruthful.
A dead console is exactly that- dead. Which means it's life is over, no more games are in development for it, the release schedule is empty, and people no longer play it.
Not one of those applies in this case. Not a single one.
@Yorumi I bought Tekken Tag Tournament 2 at launch and was impressed with it. Huge roster , Wii U exclusive content and decent , solid gameplay. It was a much better game and port than Injustice in my opinion. I don't know the actual sales on the Wii U ( and I refuse to use VGC ) but I recall Namco were not happy with the sales of the game on all systems , even though it sold nearly a million in total. I thought Soul Calibur would have been a better choice to port to Wii U than Tekken due to the formers previous success on the Gamecube , but alas that is in the past. As for why people are hyped , well it is Pokemon. Tekken is barely known outside the gaming world so I'd expect Pokken to outsell TTT2 by a very large margin. I don't think you can compare the two and draw any conclusions about the fanbases attitude to third parties.
@Jese_1 Too true, with just slight amendments. A lot of Nintendo fans are fast becoming the most irritatingly opinionated and negative gamers out there.
@Grumblevolcano Tanabe didn't confirm NX was a home console. That is what people inferred from the interview / what was translated.
@Grumblevolcano We still don't know what NX is.? It could exist alongside the Wii U. The only thing that was "confirmed" by a 3rd party (some dev on Twitter) is that it's not more powerful than the PS4.
To people who are saying this should be a NX launch title: we literally know nothing about the NX apart from its name and we'll find out more next year. No launch titles, no specs, nothing. The only reason we know of its existence is so people don't think Nintendo is abandoning dedicated consoles. All of these theories about the NX are extremely premature, and I see no reason why people are so obsessed by it.
I don't like the whole look or feel of the game. I was expecting a pokemon Z, X2 and Y2 announcement but as expected GF disappointed and came out with this bs.
Hopefully, we get an announcement before end of year.
@gatorboi352 @Minotaurgamer @Yorumi
Nintendo Logic
Wow,there's a lot of angry people in these comments! People mad that this game in not on Nintendo's next handheld. People mad about Nintendo customers.I will admin that I'm part of the customer problem. I just am not interested in most modern third party games. I have eight retail Wii U games and the only third party game I own is ZombiU. Most console games are $60 and I only have so much money to spend on them.Do I pick something that kinda interests me or something that really gets my attention.For 3DS it's a little bit different but still the vast majority of games are 1st party games. Of course I have way more 3DS games than Wii U games because they are cheaper.I do have many download 3rd party games.
@rjejr @Grumblevolcano The reason it's coming to Wii U and the reason why it wasn't at E3 is because Nintendo doesn't have much say on it. The Pokemon Company runs on their own schedule, which is a well known fact. They chose to release it on Wii U. Could an NX port happen? If the Pokemon Company wants to.
@Grumblevolcano NX is probibly too far in the future. I'd say Christmas 2016 at earliest
@Yorumi It is probably a contributing factor as much as it is a factor that the Wii U versions of titles get gimped for lack of storage and online. Nintendo and third parties need to recognize that they operate in a world where the more hardcore gamers will own multiple consoles (and a PC), and will purchase accordingly.
I think the excitement has to do also with the synergy the franchise being put into the engine brings. I never gave Samurai Warriors a second thought because nothing about it interested me. I did give Hyrule Warriors a thought because I like Zelda. Now I will give Samurai Warriors a look because I enjoyed the gameplay that Hyrule Warriors was built upon.
i am excited for this game. I always knew it was coming to the Wii U and I'm getting sick of people talk about NX, when we know nothing about it and won't until next E3 and following Nintendo's pattern it won't be out until at least Christmas 2016 or later.
People should be just happy that Nintendo didn't forget about Metroid completely. Just because you don't like the idea of the new game, doesn't mean that it's not a good game. Same with Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival. Nintendo never said that they were releasing a home console version of the main game. At least Nintendo is still innovating and not doing the same old thing. We don't know anything about these games and people treat them like pariahs. Get over it already. There is more to life than games.
@Yorumi Iv'e never seen you say anything positive about Nintendo ever in my time on this website. Your attitude makes me want Nintendo to go into making movies like they contemplated that they could do in the Gamecube era.What's with your avatar anyway? I like the Pokemon Glaceon. Why do you have a Glaceon avatar if you dislike Nintendo so much? I don't mean to sound rude. Don't you have anything positive to say about Nintendo?Edit:I take back some of what I said,you just said something positive.It's a miracle!
@rjejr ok..
2DS is an entry model for people with budget issues.
New 3DS is a model aiming to the high-end customers.
Wii Famuly is just the Wii without the GC backward stuff because, GC games are only for Nintendo fanboys and the Wii is for a mainstream audience, i.e people that never played and don't give a damn about the GC
Wii Mini...why fans are freaking with this? really? why? are you guys so arrogant that you now have amnesia of some sort? ALL SUCCESFUL CONSOLES RELEASE BUDGET RELEASES WHEN THEY ARE REACHING THE FINAL YEARS. The NES, the SNES, the PS1, the PS2, etc. Yeah the wii was succesful no matter how much you want to pretend it isn't Welcome to the real world.
@polarbear
True! Luigi Mansion on Wii U would be a sweet treat!
@Jese_1 Haha! True that!
But it's weird, though. Instead of this comment section being happy that the game is finally coming, all we're getting is "why isn't this for NC" and stuff. Seriously.
OH YEEEAAAH!
@IceClimbers Well that explanation makes sense, thanks. Too bad The Pokemon Company couldn't give it to Nintedo for the E3 NDE then, it would have killed, even if it is only an arcade port. It's doing really well on Twitter, mostly positive comments.
Heh, I did not think this arcade port would be announced this soon.
Just what I expected. But nothing for me, I keep playing TTT2.
@Minotaurgamer Wii Mini
But nobody would be stupid enough to launch a console used by a lot of people for Netflix and remove internet connectivity. And to make matters worse include MKWii in the box which had an online component. And release it in the US the same time as the new Wii U, which was $200 to $250 more. So much wrong w/ that release.
>people are getting angry towards this game for stupid reasons (muh unknown NX launch)
cancel your internet contracts, pls
Looks AWESOME I was hoping this got a release on Wii U cannot wait to play .
@Jese_1
XD, Any "fan" can display an annoying attitude when something is not to their taste, but really all we can get to that point.
And yes, recently I see more dislikes that: "Wii U doesn't have games", "Nintendo don't support", and when there is some positive about: "I don't like it", "it's a kidding?", "that should appear in another console", etc. but well.
I understand some of those situaction, but well, I prefer to enjoy the games that have come out, that worry much about the situation of the companies or news, that I should not leave out of my knowledge, but it is no big deal, but hey, for that and for that there are "discussions "(and the Internet), XD
Ok, well, still to wait for more info about of this great game!
-"Praying for Meloetta in Pokken Tournament"-
XD
I'll read the comments later but for now ...
"Say hello to my pocket friend!" 🐱⚡️
Not surprising, but this is awesome news! Hooray for buff Charizard
Hopefully the graphics quality won't be turned down too Low for the Wii U version and that they add way more fighters to the roster.
Its good to see that Nintendo still has some cool surprises for Wii U owners.
@kingofthesofa Is there any other way to consider it though, if development started on the next home console Metroid would likely be on NX then the NX is definitely a home console otherwise it wouldn't be likely.
@rjejr Well we don't know if Nintendo asked them if they could reveal it at E3 or not. Even if they had, the Pokemon Company was saving it for the Pokemon World Championships, which started today. They probably saved it for Worlds because the Pokemon Company's president wanted to have Pokken Tournament be the third pillar of Worlds, alongside the main series games and the TCG.
@Yorumi To be honest, I haven't really bought very many 3rd party games on my PS4 either. Granted, the only games I have on it are 3rd party as Sony hasn't exactly delivered on the 1st party front outside of Bloodborne, which I admittedly haven't picked up yet. I have 6 retail games on my PS4, one of which was Injustice through PS+. I have 6 3rd party games on my Wii U as well though.... so I have no idea where I'm going with this.
With the upcoming 3rd party lineup, the only games I'm even remotely interested in are MGS V, Fallout 4, and Star Wars Battlefront. Can't wait for Battlefront.
Not surprising, but great to see confirmation nontheless.
Watch Pikachu Libre be a clone of Hawlucha rather than Pikachu. Pikachu Libre could be to Hawlucha what Roy is to Marth
Fantastic I'm glad to be proven wrong. Just yesterday I was saying that I didn't think this would happen despite the European trademark appearing. Usually, I don't care for 3D fighting games, but I'll make an exception with this since its Pokemon.
For anyone saying they should save this for the NX: it's a conversation of an arcade title. Development costs for the port are minimal. It's Pokemon - it has the potential to print it's own money. It's what they call a short term solution - slap dash for no cash.
And they could probably port over to NX anyway!
A major 2016 Wii U release? It can't be!
Day one for me!!!
Good for those who want it. Now, when's Fire Emblem's fighting game or Fire Emblem's Dynasty Warriors?
Better yet, lets have an F-Zero fighting game while we wait for one. If everything else can have spin-offs, why can't F-Zero? F-Zero has a huge cast of characters!
Oh yeah, because minority.....
Just so everyone knows there are only 10 playable characters currently from the arcade build. Unless they add a lot more the roster is severly lacking. In reality there are only 9 pcs because one of them is just a re-skin of pikachu. A bunch of other pokemon make appearances, but there are not enough fighters to warrant this as a purchase currently.
It's good that the Wii U has another game coming. I think this was always the plan to bring it to the console. A bit surprised they didn't announce it at E3 seeing as it was a disaster and barren of new game announcements. But I couldn't give a f*** about Pukemon. It's all too little, too late. The Wii U is dead. It's over 6 months away. It'll probably do best in Japan.
@Radbot42 The arcade versions of Mario Kart are considerably smaller in scope than the console versions. Could be the same case here.
@Yorumi "You never saw anyone hyped about that game, so they reskin tekking with pokemon and people are flipping over the game?"
This is (kinda) the game that many were expecting since the first gen, because, like in the show, you can see and use Pokémon to "fight" properly
@liljmoore me too
Wow, lots of comments on this one. Really glad to see this announcement and I hope it has online play. I hope Nintendo promote it well too because I'd still like the Wii U to sell moew.
Ew, those models look ugly. They're way too realistic and furry looking and come close to falling into the Uncanny Valley.
I wonder if the amiibo will unlock new fighters. Fingers crossed for a Jigglypuff fighter (if Target will ever restock them).
You could find a great, amazing brawler on WiiU by getting TEKKEN TAG 2.... But hey, it is not related to Mario or pokemon or zelda.....
@Yorumi Hyrule Warriors was essentially a new installment of Dynasty Warriors, but with characters from The Legend of Zelda. It outsold every previous Dynasty Warriors game, but I don't believe it's because the gameplay formula of Dynasty Warriors suddenly seemed appealing because of Link and Zelda. I think it's because people have always wanted to branch out and play these other characters in Zelda. I know people who love Midna and Ghirahim, and would've liked them in Smash. But suddenly you have Hyrule Warriors, with allows you to play and battle with all of these characters you've come to know and love. I don't think the fact that it is essentially a Dynasty Warriors game changes that. If a Dynasty Warriors game was going to be exclusively released for Wii U, I don't think anyone would've cared as much.
The same is true about Pokkén. I don't think the majority of people care that it is essentially Tekken. People have just wanted a dedicated fighting game with Pokémon for a long time. It could've played like Tekken, Street Fighter, or Smash Bros. and not have changed anything. So it's less about Tekken and more about Pokémon. That's why people are getting excited.
Oooh yeah this is definitely day one. I will have my fighters fix next year for sure. This game and SFV all day.
@the101 instead, by judging the usual umbalanced reactions here, I believe that a "sleeping person simulator" reskinned as Mario would sell like hotcakes on WiiU....
Ridiculous and baffling. Great way to announce it where 2 people might notice outside of Nintendo fans. And they're treating the Wii U as if it's dead, with their announcement of the NX. I love Nintendo, but things seem the same as ever.
Omg pokken tournament it's coming to the Wii U! PSHH, who cares!?! It's just basically another console pokemon stadium game, boring!
@hYdeks It's not the same gameplay as Stadium, Stadium just uses the same battle mechanics as the main series, in this game you're controlling the actual Pokemon and battling in real time. It's more like Smash than Stadium (or to be more precise, Tekken. The game is basically Tekken with Pokemon instead of Tekken characters).
@Cyberbotv2 Not really. If I recall correctly, the Pokemon Company is in charge of advertising, featuring, and licensing the Pokemon games, not Nintendo. They tend to follow their own schedule.
Great news! And a great caption.
Awesome 😃 and wiiu!! I don't think nx is replacing wiiu Iwata said it was a whole new concept. Nintendo mobile phone that plays games better than mobile phones! Lol
@arnoldlayne83 #161 That makes it all the better... Now the Wii U has another amazing brawler game. Especially considering that people have been wishing for a game like this for the Pokemon franchise since the beginning.

@Cyberbotv2 Err, not really. It was announced at the Pokemon World Championships in the opening ceremony. The game's targeted towards Pokemon fans and fighting game fans anyways. Since it's Pokemon, the news spread extremely fast, trending on social media.
Here's hoping that they will release that on-rails Luigi's Mansion arcade game to Wii U as well, or better yet, Luigi's Mansion HD with the arcade game included as a bonus.
@hYdeks Who cares? If Nintendo announced a Pokémon Stadium game many people would care. Same with a Pokémon Snap sequel
@hYdeks
That's just ignorant.
@IceClimbers Did you know you keep double posting, but then deleting the 2nd one, which is the one I always try to reply to in my inbox, but then it doesn't lead anywhere b/c you already deleted it. Not always, but twice today. I'm not mad or anything, just thought it was funny.
Thanks again for even more Pokemon knowledge. Guess I have a go to now besides my kids for this stuff. Not a big Pokemon guy, though I would probably play Pokepark 3, I liked 2. Probably won't play Starfox Zero either, but I really want Starfox Adventures 2, I have odd tastes.
@Yorumi Don't let a vocal minority represent everyone in your mind. I know that my reasons for buying or not buying games are not as simple as others would want them to be.
@Plucky How was Greninja a cross promo? X&Y came out WAY before Greninja had his reveal trailer shown.
@hYdeks Ummm Stadium was a turn based RPG and this is a fighting game.
So please leave NintendoLife forever with that stupidity of yours.
WOWOWOW that looks awsome! I just hope they will give this game some kind of a plot, 'cause that's a really important thing for me in games...
@rjejr Yeah I think my mouse is screwed up. I suppose I could solve the problem by using my phone though haha.
Anyways, yeah I've always been a major Pokemon fan. Definitely excited for this!
Not surprising, but good to get confirmation nonetheless. Also nice to see a 2016 Wii U game.
Wanting the 20th anniversary to come here now
If there had to be a "Libre" version of a Pokemon I would have preferred Gardevoir Libre.
Yes I know Gardevoir Libre is not official and no, I don't care.
REJOICE!!!
Awesome!
Another Wii U game is confirmed and now people get on the NINTENDOOMED!!! bandwagon.
>mfw
Throwing money and the screen...why do I not have this game yet!!!! Soooo Excited! Hope there is amiibo content as well.
@Yorumi Well to be fair third party has treated Wiiu owners like crap,so i could give them a pass on hating them. But i do hate reading comments coming from them (sometimes on this site!)saying"Nintendo don't need third party! If you want them go buy a PS4! Or an Xbox One!" And i find that sad and hilarious at the same time.
"At some point I just wonder if nintendo fans actually care about games, or only care that something associated with nintendo is in it." I think you know the answer to that. They just care about the characters,but it does sometimes depends on the games tho.
Until Nintendo oficially announces the NX, people should stop crying because X game is going to the Wii U and not a "launch title" for the NX. For all we know, the NX is an add on to the Wii U or 3DS that will have some special characteristics and will make you coffee when you wake up.
Regarding the game, this news is great! I really wanted to ger Pokken over here, now I just have to save money because between this and Mario Maker, Yoshi and Xenoblade my wallet will run dry!
@JusticeColde Where is that from?
Nice. For anyone that questions why Wii U and not NX, with this not on NX and the next Dragon Quest being on NX, I would guess it is because Dragon Quest fits better on the NX for some reason. Maybe the NX will not have analog joysticks. Maybe they aren't close enough to producing the NX for Bandai Namco to wait. Maybe they are already making Pokken Tournament 2 and saving it for NX. Maybe they want to take advantage of the Amiibo craze before Nintendo "fixes" the supply problem. There are a few reasons at least.
No one invests in a failing product. You may have noticed that the used games market on Wii U isn't very robust. Unless it is Ubisoft making too many copies, it takes a longer time for used game prices to drop below 55 USD on the Wii U than on the competition. That combined with a smaller library of competing games makes the Wii U an excellent platform for smaller publishers to use. The NX also might be too successful to try to introduce an honestly niche product like Pokken Tournament. If not for Hyrule Warriors having little to compete with my personal friends would not have ever purchased a Dynasty Warriors game.
@DarkmarkUnited
I agree completely today is a good day
Freaking yes finally. Wanted this game for a long time. Glad it's finally coming to Wii U.
>>wanting this game on a system with no release date.
I understand wanting it on the NX but there's zero reason for a game in development for this long to not come on the Wii U first.
@Jese_1
Yeah, the double standards are real. Now people are slamming Nintendo for releasing Wii U games now... Why can't we just enjoy the Wii U games we have now and getting in the future and worry about the NX(whatever it is) later??
Whatever, too many people here are too desperate to squeeze something negative about Nintendo even if it's just them announcing an arcade port to their current console..
@Kryptokrunch
Completely agree with you. It is getting a bit annoying that instead of enjoying a new game announcement for the Wii U, people inmediately jump and complain that the game is not for NX (its not even its name, It is a freaking codename!) and or asking for a 3DS port. Poor Wii U doesn't seem to get a break.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs
this concept sucks since its basically just Tekken with Pokemon... it will be interesting if Pokemon mechanics were translated to a fighting game context and it was 3 v 3 like Marvel vs campcom things like elemental types were factored in... However, if I use a water move against a fire pokemon and it just do normal damage that just feels stupid and out of place
Wow. I was skeptical about this at first. When people said it would come to Wii U - I doubted them 100%. But I was wrong, which I'm happy about, to be honest. I will get this game the very first day it's released. And nothing in this world will stop me.
Now if only they'll add in my beloved Sableye into the roster. Because I need et...
@Rafie I can't wait for SFV! I wish the beta was playable.
I'm loving it. It's a pokemon game and it's not my cup of tea. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I wish they had a real Pokemon game for Wii U and by the way people stop waiting for WiiU's demise. We don't know what the hec the NX is. So relax.
@Yorumi I've come to the conclusion most people read a story feel they have nothing to add to the conversation other than "Yeah" so they just move on without saying anything. I've done it enough times myself.
My experience is that in the comments you get a lot of people that just want to throw rocks and tear down anything that doesn't agree with them. They don't want to discuss so much as conquer while professing to be open minded. When they are confronted with opposition that they cannot shout down, they start jumping all over grammatical errors or "logical flaws" to marginalize the differing view. Nothing anyone says will change their minds, so it best to just let them have their say and move on.
As bad as it is here, it is worse on political forums or sports forums.
@Jazzer94 The NX is coming next year.
aren't most Fighting games Online anyways?
i could understand why not the arcade version, but i can't see it being an issue for Wii U.
Steelix needs to be in this.
I also wish people would shut up about the NX. There is no NX. It is a code for some sort of unknown in the FAR FUTURE. The Wii U is here, and it is alive and kicking, and will get games for a very long time.
@Uzuki "Racing for Rupees."
Nice trailer by the way. I could see myself buying it!
GIVE ME LUDICOLO
@KryptoKrunch half the problem seems to be that because the Wii U hasn't done particularly well in sales everyone's suddenly a market expert on how to "save" the console (or at least it's reputation).
For some reason the fact that it hasn't sold well diminishes some people's ability to just enjoy the games that are on it, and I really don't understand why that is.
@dumedum Looking back at past Nintendo system's at the end of their lifespan says otherwise. The Wii U has peaked. It is what it is.
Ps4&XB1 have been on the market too long for Nintendo to take a wait and see approach. They need this system out ASAP with a strong launch lineup and as much positive pr as they can get.
I love that the Libre Pikachu is female XD
@Jese_1 I want to enjoy Nintendo systems&games for many years to come. The company needs to have plentiful hardware/software sales for that enjoyable pastime to continue.
Pass me the condiments, I have to eat my hat! This is great news. I am not at all sure what people are thinking when they say it should have been delayed till the NX. IS THERE REALLY 'PEOPLE' OUT THERE THAT PLAYS GAMES WHILST WORRYING ABOUT NINTENDO MARKET SHARE? These people need to stop worrying, enjoy what they are playing and get enthusiastic about it. Enthusiasm spreads. Enthusiasm spreads sales. That is as far as your job goes as a consumer lol. If you moan about it, all you are doing is compounding the problem further buy showing those wanting to jump in that the Wii U fan base is full of self entitled moaners! You don't need world domination to be successful...you just need to make a profit so that you can carry on doing what you enjoy doing. Anyhoo...back to Xenoblade. Bye world!
Nintendo doesn't announce games > Wii U is doomed.
Nintendo announces new games > Wii U is doomed.
Pikachu Libre for the win!
@DarkKirby
Although that does sound amazing, I would just prefer that Gallade makes it into the game as a Wii U addon character/update/DLC.
And it is excellent news that the Wii U is getting another game which quite a few people had pegged down to the NX. Plus it is a Pokemon spin-off, and it has a chance to sell quite a bit
Pokemon duking it out like never before!
1 And Nintendo said, "Let there be Pokken Tournament upon the Wii U once new life once again springs upon the northern half of the Earth, that whosoever should purchase this game shalt pummeleth their neighbors and kinsmen with various Pokémon in glorious HD from the comfort of their own homes. And the masses shalt call this fun."
2 And the gamers rejoiced.
@Grumblevolcano The arcade game is already out in Japan, so there's no point in shelving it when the Wii U really needs another high profile title (alongside Zelda) in its early 2016 lineup. They admitted to revealing the NX early for reassurance alongside the mobile announcement and haven't revealed a thing about it to date, so I highly doubt it's coming before 2017, anyway. Nintendo always starts working on their next system (console or handheld) shortly after the previous one's release.
@Grumblevolcano I'm expecting a Nov 2017 NX release date, this game will be a bit too old by then,
However, BC or a great port if its still a big mover wouldn't harm NX's launch line up.
@DualWielding Do you act like this whenever Mewtwo hits Jigglypuff with Shadow Ball or Greninja with its psychic attacks in Smash Bros. (or Charizard hitting Jigglypuff with its Dragon Rush custom move)? While it would be a nice bonus for the type matchups to be in effect, it's not really necessary for this type of game. What's wrong with Tekken, anyway? Besides, most Tekken characters stick to traditional physical fighting moves, while there are plenty of more unorthodox Pokémon-style attacks available in this game.
@Yorumi There are a few of us still playing TTT2. And there is a portion of the Wiiu fanbase that is waiting for the Wiiu to get more fighting games.
@Superryanworld agreed. While I'll be getting it on pc first if the netcode is good I will likely buy a ps4 for this game if I haven't done so by the time it comes out. So excited!
@Melkac Says who?
The hype is real. The thought of play AS POKEMON and using their moves is awesome
As expected! Now that it's been officially announced, all I must do is wait.
Potential balance issues do not sit all that well with me, though, so I guess I'll wait to see how things go down in the future.
Oh, yes. I totally saw this coming, but that doesn't make it any less exciting.
@Ryu_Niiyama I just hope SFV support's PS3 fightstick's. TE stick's are pretty pricey and the one I currently own works fine.
@Yorumi you do know that this game doesn't resemble tekken at all apart from the name, right? I bought tekken tag 2 on wiiu and got severely disappointed with this one. Not going to get this at all
@Superryanworld
Me too. But is it worth being stressed, angry, sad and arguing for nothing just because the company which enjoy their games is not doing well?.
I repeat, there is nothing wrong to talk about it, but why sacrifice your fun and even your optimism, then video games really are not entertainment, otherwise hassles.
In my opinion, patience, optimism and above all, yes, but patience is the key to everything is okay, and if something goes wrong, well, there will be something more that can improve and move forward; and if we want to support a business, in this case, Nintendo, besides being criticized for disagreement, for that there is something called "Feedback", is not it?
@SakuraHaruka Point taken.
There's a fine line between constructive criticism and just being overly negative. You're certainly not the first person to call me out on it.
seems kinda late in the game to get a new wii u game announced....
that beeing said, PLEASE DON'T PULL A STARFOX 2!
I do enjoy fighting games a ton, and when I ended up feeling disappointed about Super Smash Bros for Wii U, I started to consider purchasing another fighting game to play on my Wii U. I held out on doing so as I believed Pokkén Tournament would eventually arrive on Wii U and finally, it has been confirmed for a Wii U release.
I didn't expect it as a Spring 2016 release though; it seems I'm going to get know mercy after this years Christmas period.
@Yorumi From what I've heard about this game in terms of gameplay, it doesn't play strictly like Tekken. Heck, I keep seeing someone on this site compare it more so to the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games than that of Tekken.
In the case of people being interested in Pokken Tournament more so than that of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, it could simply come down to people being fans of Pokémon but not fans of Tekken. Simply having the characters or series can be a draw to people, who may otherwise not be interested in a game like Tekken because of not being interested by the characters, themes, or storyline. Other times it can also serve as a gateway for people to try out these other series, who may have avoided them due to not knowing a decent point of entry
@Zombo i just mean that eventually Greninja had a promo in japan where registering smash netted them a code for an event greninja with a moveset similar to the one in Smash. Greninja almost seems to be bolstered up as a secondary mascot, similar to Blaziken.
It's almost a given that at least Greninja would get in over Hawlucha, just because Pikachu Libre filled his niche.
