The Nintendo Selects series became a key part of the Wii catalogue, as high quality games became available at discount prices to tempt late adopters to give them a try. We're finally going to see the same initiative on 3DS, with Nintendo of Europe confirming six games that'll join the range for the portable from 16th October onwards.
There are a couple of particularly strong inclusions, with the first game being a notable example - check them out below.
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
- Star Fox 64 3D
- Nintendogs + Cats
- Mario Tennis Open
- Yoshi's New Island
- Mario Party: Island Tour
Are any of these still on your wishlist, and are you planning to grab their freshly reduced versions? Let us know.

ALBW for my niece
Well, that list tailed off.
They need more games on the list, but good start.
Guess I'll finally pick up Yoshi's New Island
How much are these actually going to sell for? £20?
There's never been a better time to wait a month or two to buy Zelda.
If you haven't already got Zelda and Star Fox, now take the opportunity.
Going to get zelda for sure
I'm not into modern handhelds but there is a 3ds in a shop near me for £40 so maybe now is the right time to give it a spin......
These are all £20 or less games at this point anyway they should be bringing the harder to find games to the select range like OOT.
Nintendogs, Star Fox and Mario Tennis Open have been bargain bin fodder in Australia for quite some time, i'm sure I saw Star Fox for $10-$20 (still not interested even at such a low price, but I am keen on Zero); and the other two have been available quite cheaply for a while now.
Interested in Starfox 64 3D. Already have the Zelda one - which is glorious - and I'm not too keen on the rest.
wait so theirs an already existing list for this? NOA up your game pls.
I'd update my N+C game to digital and start using it again if they nintendo selected it.
How much will that discount be? That is the important part, on GameCube games the reduction was 50%.
@Jazzer94 If Star Fox 3D isn't hard to find in stores I don' know what is.
Maybe I pick up Yoshi's Island, maybe even Mario Party or Mario Tennis. Somehow I started to feel the urge to own every decent game on my 3DS for a while now.
I bet Animal Crossing discounted would sell well. Some people would download it to start a second town.
Will they be discounted on the e-shop too? If that's the case I might get Starfox 64 3D at some point.
Yes, time to get ALBW finally!!
Of course this gets announced just a week after I finally got A Link Between Worlds(at full price). Grrr
@kupocake You can say that again!
Though – if the price is right – this could be a chance to finally pick up the oft-underrated Mario Tennis Open... a title I firmly believe is superior to Mario Golf: World Tour, for example!
*Unfortunately, MTO was one of several 3DS (and PS Vita) games I sold to help fund my Wii U purchase a couple of years back.
@Fandabidozi Including me!
Star Fox is great news as recently it's been very hard to get hold of cheaply. This now indicates that the 3ds is ready to wind down like they did with the Wii titles before they finally let it go. Now i know why they've held off reprinting certain games. Expected New Leaf to be added since HHD is out this week too. Bit odd leaving that out.
I hope this comes to NA for the sole purpose of picking up Star Fox. It's a ghost in these parts and if you look online (amazon, ebay) it's like $60 for the game used!!!! Hopefully this means they re-print these games with the new packaging. As many are pointing out, it probably means 2016 will be the last year of releases for the 3DS and we could/will see hardware announcements next E3.
Maybe Yoshi's New Island.
Yoshi's New Island has only been out for 18 months, I think that goes to show that it didn't do too hot if they're pushing it like this.
Anybody else made a connection that "Selects" we're originally released last time 12 months before the Wii U was released?
Is this the start of the wind down before the NX is released for Xmas next year???
The only two on that list that I'd consider paying full whack for I've already got (ALBW new at a great price that I'll be surprised if the Selects beat, and Star Fox 64 used).
Stick Luigi's Mansion 2 on that list, along with AC:NL, and i might take a bit more interest...
Mario Tennis Open is fantastic!! Mario Party island is good fun too. Yoshi's new island is just same old stuff but quite amusing.
Yoshi's New Island wasn't even worth downloading for free from Club Nintendo.
The Wii U really needs the same thing,Lego City,Pikmin 3 and W101 would all be perfect candidates.
I dont usually say this, but i would avoid getting yoshis story. I didnt like it nearly as much as I loved the port of yoshis island on GBA. I am not sure what it is. Def get one of the others first.
I got most of them for 10€ and below, new and sealed.
If this came to NA I'd get Yoshi's New Island for my son and Nintendogs + Cats for my daughter even though you can get that game on the eShop for $16.49
@Splatburst How / where?
Own them all except Nintendogs... Still not interested in that one.
<sigh> no Mario and luigi?
Aww wanted new super Mario bros 2
Don't have any interest in those games but Zelda. NoA better start a Selects lineup here too.
Surprised NSMB2 and MK7 aren't there. Tennis and Party are rather baffling choices.
(Also it's a shame the UK never got Pikmin 1 and 2 New Play Control as Nintendo Selects for the Wii. Pikmin 2 NPC is rather pricey.)
Do the same for Wii U please!
What about the eShop versions? Many 3DS users prefer to have their games on the go, including myself.
I'm surprised that Ocarina of Time 3D (2011) and Mario games are not there,
Glad to see this! My 3DS was stolen in a robbery earlier this year so it would be great to re-purchase A Link Between Worlds at a discounted price. Hoping Nintendo starts doing this with more games in the future.
Hope that happens in NA as well...gives me an excuse to buy starfox.
I could go for a Link Between Worlds if the price is interesting and the "Nintendo Selects" box art is not hideous.
I've been meaning to get Island Tour and Starfox 3D, so if these come to the US too, that'd be great.
Yoshis New Island for me - Mario Party Island Tour got bad reviews so won't bother with that.
Already have ALBW (though it's part of the backlog), and the only other one on the list that mildly interests me is Star Fox.
I may consider picking it up if this range comes to NA.
"six games that'll join the range"
Just for clarification, by "join" this article means "start", correct? Or does a "Nintnedo Selects" line already exist for the 3DS, in the EU or elsewhere?
Games that should have started the list (based on being well known and more than 2 years old):
Mario Kart 7
SM3DL
Kid ICarus: Uprising
NSMB2
Luigi's Mansion 2
AC:NL
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_3DS_video_games
Most people who own already own a 3DS probably already own these, so Nintneod doens't lose any money by cutting the cost on them, and the people who don't own a 3DS may buy 1 to play these games for $20 each. They would make 1 heck of a tantalizing in store display rack.
And tt's called "Nintnedo Selects", not "Nintendo Bargain Bin".
Now where's the Wii U list? That system needs it more to sell a few units, and Lego City Undercover on the eShop for $50 next to all those other $20 eShop Lego games looks utterly ridiculous. At least they finally added it to the eShop Lego section, but at $50 they probably shouldn't have bothered.
Cool. Everyone loved ALBW but I wasnt a huge fan so I sold it after I beat it. However if the price is low enough here I may download it again and give it another go.
I'm still wondering why they didn't cut prices off all games (retail and eshop)
which are older than 2 years at least by 50% permanently.
But its their call, not mine...
Will this affect the eShop prices I wonder?
Nintendogs is already $15 on the eShop, are they going to make it $10?
Starfox is $80 for a brand new cart (was 35 when it came out), so i might pick it up on sale for $15 if it drops that low http://www.amazon.com/Star-Fox-64-3D-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B002I094AC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1443446699&sr=8-2&keywords=starfox+64
I MIGHT get Link Between Worlds
I'm already getting Triforce Heroes when it releases
Maybe I'll go for a double Zelda Pack and buy both at the same time if the discount happens when it releases.
I never knew about the first one that happened on the wii. Could someone explain to me what it is all about? And does this make the eshop prices lower?. I'd like zelda or yoshi cheaper on the eshop
I bought Mario Tennis Open on sale a while back, but I'd prefer a download copy just to make it more likely for me to actually play the thing. Keeping my eye on this.
About time.
Seriously, let's recap Nintendo's discount-related events... in the GameCube era, Player's Choice re-releases started popping up, while the same happened with fewer and farther between games on the Game Boy Advance (and this offer never reached Europe, to boot). Fast forward to the Wii, which got Nintendo Selects while the DS has never seen any official discounts. And now...?
My guess is as good as anybody's, but I think Nintendo is simply milking the 3DS's better sales to recover from any loss caused by the WiiU (which, in turn, actually might not get any discounted rereleases for this very reason). Anyway, good to see a handheld finally receiving an economy range of titles.
Let's just avoid any unfavorable comparison to the PlayStation (Platinum titles on PS1, PS2 and PS3, as well as PSP Essentials on, well, PSP).
Well... I think I'll be getting nintendogs
Just Star Fox for me. I have Zelda and no interest in the rest.
Zelda's the only good one there. The other ones suck.
If this comes to NOA, I really need to pick up A Link Between Worlds. Have Star Fox and Tennis already, others don't interest me.
I'd be interested in Starfox64 IF I could actually find it!
Awesome! I'll get some of these as I only own Star Fox (out of the list). I was a bit of a late adopter.
Yoshi for me
If it comes to NA, I'll get Mario Tennis and Yoshi.
Really happy they're doing this with 3DS. I'll pick up Island Tour if I can. I'm surprised that Mario Kart 7 isn't here.
As in they'll be like 20 dollars in stores? Somehow I doubt that.
A few years ago, while 3ds was still in the doghouse, I bought several games for less than $15 US, including Nintendogs. LBW would be a good buy if I didn't already have it, but the others should have been marked down a long time ago.
Hopefully it's in NA by Christmas so I can get ALBW
Not sure why games like Mario Kart 7, Animal Crossing New Leaf and NSMB2 aren't on that list, as those games have, are, and will continue to drive the 3DS install base more than any of those 6 Nintendo selects listed above.
It sounds like the 3DS will be old soon!
Got everyone but Nintendogs + Cats, so I guess it's nothing for me...
That's good. I've been wanting to try the Yoshi's Island and the Mario Party but due to the poor reviews, I've been holding off and hoping for a price drop.
Isn't Nintendogs and cats already kinda cheap? They are 14.99 in North America
It's 2015 and we are celebrating a price cut for 3/4 years old games!
The Nintendo expensive difference!
Too bad the're not bringing back OOT...
I want Star Fox 64 3D.
I still don't have ALBW or Star Fox 64, so I'll be getting those two. One day.
Hopefully this happens in America. I saw the box art for these rereleases and they look nice.
I clicked hoping they would have Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon on the list (I bought it at release and loved it so much) but it's not there
Everyone should play LM2, it's a wonderful sequel.
