The Media Create chart results are in for Japan, and after a number of weeks with Nintendo's systems and exclusive games leading the way there's a change in momentum.

In the software top 20 the shift has come through a range of new releases, with the top 5 consisting of three games across three separate Sony platforms. The two iterations of Yo-kai Watch Busters are 6th and the highest-placed 3DS game, with Picross 3D 2 making its debut with over 30,000 sales. Super Mario Maker has passed a landmark, too, having now sold more than a quarter of a million copies at retail in Japan. The top 20 is below with lifetime sales in brackets.

Moving onto hardware, the PS4 storms to the top with a major increase; the extremely low sales in last week's figures preceded a price drop that's now prompted plenty of gamers to jump in. The New 3DS LL (XL) is next in second place, while the Wii U's bump from last week falls away, albeit with numbers still comfortably in five figures. The results are below with last week's sales in brackets.

  1. PlayStation 4 – 46,177 (4,071)
  2. New 3DS LL – 18,136 (21,765)
  3. PlayStation Vita – 15,237 (19,078)
  4. Wii U – 12,843 (18,024)
  5. New 3DS – 4,367 (5,069)
  6. PlayStation 3 – 2,088 (2,630)
  7. 3DS – 1,160 (1,529)
  8. PlayStation Vita TV – 761 (790)
  9. 3DS LL – 587 (747)
  10. Xbox One – 203 (232)

Although it's a bumper week for Sony it'll be interesting to see how numbers balance out once the system's new price takes hold and sales settle down. We can't help but wonder how a price cut could benefit Wii U in what could be its latter period on the market, but whether Nintendo considers it a smart move is another debate entirely.
