Earlier this week Nintendo of Europe teased a Mario myth-busting video in which Shigeru Miyamoto would tackle some of the tales and questions that revolve around the mascot. We expected some light-hearted confirmations and some nudging / winking, and that's what we got.
The video was initially shared by NoE on Twitter, and though some answers are either interesting or well-known, it's the matter of Bowser Jr.s mother that'll confuse and cause mirth in equal measures.
Some comments are already amusingly taking this seriously, which leads to some dark, twisted parts of the mind. Our suggestion is to remember that these are cartoonish and silly video game characters designed solely to entertain us; try not to think of Miyamoto-san's answer literally...

Well, that Super Mario Bros. 3 is a stage performance was a nice revelation, and I also honestly thought it was his head that breaks the blocks.
That part about Bowser Jr.'s MOTHER, though...
P.S.: is it just me or does it means that we will get DLC levels for Super Mario Maker or at least a way to find Miiyamoto's levels easily?
One can only hope to find a career that is that rewarding and fun.

He pointed at himself as the "mother" of Bowser Jr, because he designed him. That people on the internet take that to mean that he did the nasties with Bowser is just not really any concern of mine.
OR he pointed up towards God, and Bowser Jr. is in fact Jesus.

I always thought Bowser Jr. was just Bowser as a baby, because didn't he first appear in Yoshi's Island, which also featured a certain pair of plumbers as babies? Who also appear to be the same age, so either they are twins, or the movie was right when they claimed that Luigi was adopted.
I figured having Bowser and Bowser Jr. together in the same game was just one of those weird paradox things, like how Baby Mario and Luigi are in the same games as their future selves.

@Asaki That's actually who we know as Bowser but when he was young, Bowser Jr. is Bowser's son. Unsurprisingly they just look very alike when they're the same age.
@RupeeClock Miyamoto has actually previously stated that Dr. Mario isn't necessarely a "legit" doctor. So in reality I doubt Miyamoto would let Dr. Mario treat any illness he might have or get.

I thought Miyamoto's gesture meant he wanted the questioner to get closer so only they would know the answer, but the questioner never took the hint, so we'll never know.

@Fazermint No, I didn't seem to misunderstand, you said you don't get the fuss because he pointed to himself. Pointing to himself doesn't answer the question. That is what the fuss is, not because he did the "nasties"
@ikki5 The article would suggest that the fuss is not about the fact that Miyamoto dodged the question, but indeed about the implicatures inherent in a literal understanding of his gesture.

@Asaki To add on to that, Bowser Jr. first appeared in "Super Mario Sunshine," a main series game that also includes adult Mario as well as Bowser himself.

@EmmatheBest Japanese people always point towards their nose when pointing at themselves. Just like they have other gestures for displaying numbers with their fingers. It's simply a cultural difference.
Thank You Nintendo Life, everyone takes these things too seriously, Miyamoto even smiled as though he wasn't being serious. The biggest giveaway to it being a simple joke was the fact that these are only VIDEO GAME characters which he made, he was answering sarcastically because Nintendo doesn't have a real answer for the question and he practically made all the characters himself so as the creator of Super Mario he's jokingly stating in a way that he's the parent to all his video game characters, he had no answer to whom "virtually speaking".
I ship Bowsamoto now. I cannot unsee this video.

I just take it that he's saying that Bowser Jr is Bowser's son, but in a sense, Miyamoto created Bowser Jr, so he's kind of a mother. either that or all children in the SMB universe are inexplicably delivered as storks, at least as far as Humans, Apes and Koopas are. Yoshi's are mentioned to reproduce asexually (JP Melee) from eggs so the Stork issue doesn't apply to them.
Makes total sense. Bowswer Jr. has Miyamato's teeth and uncanny trait of waving his arms around like a mad man.

Okay, if the Koopa kids are Bowser's, then who did Bowser go with to get them...and what did Bowser do to the female? Ahh...so many answers, but this makes one think of why Bowser is always kidnapping Peach, but I'd also like to know why Peach can control a whole mushroom kingdom, but can never do anything to stop Bowser from snatching her up...if she can fight in Smash, how comes she acts so pathetic in the adventures?

@Asaki You're confusing Baby Bowser (who is simply a young version of Bowser in the past), with Bowser Jr., who is grown-up Bowser's son.
Then there are also the 7 Koopalings, who are apparently Bowser's children as well, but somehow Bowser Jr. isn't counted as one of them or something... I dunno, maybe they're from a different mother.

Of course! This explains why the Koopalings aren't considered Bowser's kids. Peach didn't want them and resumed her single life! When Bowser married Miyamoto, Shiggy wanted Bowser to have nothing to do with Peach when they had Bowser Jr. together, including the Koopalings! And it also explains why Bowser's still after Peach. He's not after /her/ anymore, he's after her money to pay for eight kids and Shiggy's lavish lifestyle! It explains everything!!

Nah Miyamoto is just too polite to confirm that Peach gave birth to bowser Jr. I've read enough exotic comics to know how that song goes. I think the real question is, is peach also the mother of the koopalings?
I know it's kinda dark for something as light hearted as SMB but in the first SMB Bowser had Peach in his clutches long enough to be doing hentai things to her. For all we know she may have laid a clutch of eggs before Mario could save her. And assuming the first 3 mario games are in chronological order and are part of a continuous timeline then during the events of SM2 the koopalings could have been raised by Bowser taking time off to do the single dad thing and once he was happy with their tyranting skills he gave them castles to rule in different areas to keep Mario busy and to give him more quality time with Peach each time he kidnaps her.
@Mister_Wu from what I've seen, users can submit levels, so Miyamoto will be posting some levels of his own.
@JLPick I think Bower is supposed to be a conqueror, also, smash is not, never has been nor will be canon, they are just trophies/toys that come to life and take the personalities of those who they represent. At least to my knowledge, there aren't any references anywhere, and on any game, that smash is related to the main stories of other games so any abilities you might see on smash do not belong to the actual characters, just to their smash versions, so in short answer, no Peach wont fight back Bowser, that's why she needs Mario, although that means Toads are pretty useless if you ask me.
Regarding Super Mario Bros 3...
...from my perspective, either Sigeru meant that the player was playing a re-enactment of events that really did happen to the Mario Bros or Sigeru wanted to discredit Super Mario Bros 3 because he thinks the best Super Mario game is Super Mario Galaxy, even though Super Mario Bros 3 sold tonnes more than Super Mario Galaxy.
Also, the response to the Bowser Jr question makes sense. I very much always thought that all of Bowser's children were not related to him by family.
