IS it compatible with the Wii U Pro Controller? If not, I won't really consider getting it. FPS's are just so much better on anything but the gamepad. I guess it's just the clunkiness of it, but Splatoon is annoying having to use the gamepad only, even when using analog controls.
I think this game would work AMAZING with online multiplayer. 1v1, each person brings 3 characters into battle on a neutral stage, and try to take out the other person's team. There would have to be like a level cap or something like in Pokemon to make sure that someone with a really high-leveled team from playing the main campaign wouldn't destroy any lower-leveled opponents. It would add a LOT of extra gameplay hours to a game that is otherwise a bit short.
But you guys here at NLife don't really care about silly Steamworld Heist, right? Not even an HONORABLE MENTION in your staff picks list despite being the 3rd most loved 3DS eShop title? I guess you guys would just be more excited over some DLC for Pokemon Shuffle, which you seem to be pretty fond of, if that's worth an honorable mention.
@StreetPassUK Yeah I realized my math was off after I posted it, but my point is that Pokken needs twice as many consoles lol. Good luck trying to make Pokken more accessible to a wider audience in the UK. Hope someone can do the same for America.
I'm conflicted with this game as competitive. Not because of the gameplay, but because of how you play. Smash requires one TV set, one copy of the game, and one wii U for one match. Pokken requires 2 copies of the game, 2 TV sets and 2 Wii U consoles! Since the Pokemon Company is being way cooler than Nintendo and actually supporting the competitive play of their competitive fighting game, events put on by them will probably be well-stocked. This will most likely extend to big national and regional events like EVO, CEO, APEX etc.
But what about locals? Let's say 20 people enter a tournament. If everyone entering brings a TV, their Wii U and their copy of the game, that leaves the TO to get 20 more TV sets, 20 more copies of Pokken and 20 more Wii U consoles! Because of this restriction, a whole lot less local events will be put on, and thus the competitive community suffers.
For example, if you're pretty good at Smash but nowhere near the level of going to a regional event, then just go to one of the many locals at high schools, community centers, game stores, etc. But with Pokken, I can see a lot of these smaller events disappearing because of a lack of supplies to put it on. This means the few locals that are big enough to support Pokken will be overrun by the best members of the local scene, kind of like a funnel. With few tournaments to go to, all the top players flock to one or two, leaving no room for the little guy to improve against other little guys.
Competitive games need to be more like a colander and less like a funnel: instead of one big hole where all the water comes out, but at a really slow rate, it needs to have a bunch of little holes where all the water can come out at a fast pace. That's what keeps competitive games alive.
This thing looks awesome! At first I thought it was an NES Zapper made to look like a Glock, but once I found out it was the other way around, I was instantly more impressed. Well done guys!
@Clownshoes Calibrating every 30 minutes? Luckyyyy! I was placing my wiimote down roughly every 5-10 minutes. I thought Skyward Sword was a decent game other than the never-ending "slash sideways, wait, slash up, wait, slash diagonally" gimmick for EVERY SINGLE ENEMY in the ENTIRE GAME. I honestly preferred Twilight Princess's waggle controls, because it was the functional equivalent of mashing the B button in Ocarina/Majora/Wind Waker.
@TruenoGT Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is not a remake, for America and Europe at least. In Japan, sure. But for a Eurpoean game awards, it a new game. When the Mobile and Handheld category doesn't include a single game from the only REAL mobile platform, there's something wrong. Vita lacks good games, and mobile games you play on the can shouldn't count.
If they made an XL version of the smash one on Big Battlefield or Gaur Plain or something, then that would warrant a purchase, because I have so many amiibo, but if the biggest one has 5 spots, then I'll just keep em on my shelf.
Being that it was not-for-profit and wasn't even complete yet, this seems a little bit unneccesary, especially when if one wanted to, one could play the full version of Zelda I on a for-profit emulator. This project was a lovely homage, and I don't think Nintendo really should have taken it down. That being said, their action is completely understandable and somewhat appropriate, unlike the Youtube crap.
Wii Classic Controller integration? What about Wii U Pro Controller Integration? Or has that already been implemented, I don't have then Wii U version?
This game looks pretty trashy, graphics-wise. The environments look generic and don't have a ton of detail, and overall the game looks like an early build, not the full complete game. It looks like an upscaled Wii game. And I'm not one to fuss over pixel count if the aesthetic is pleasing, but frankly Star Fox Zero just looks quite bland.
It will be interesting to see if they go at Pokken like Smash and constantly tweak certain characters, or if they'll just leave it alone and only patch out stuff that's legitimately broken, like the Shadow Mewtwo thing. Guess we'll see in the coming months.
DUUUDE...TEN NEW POKEMON?! That's, like, waaay too many.
Why must they always focus on putting new Pokemon into these games? They're really going overboard now. Ten whole Pokemon? That's just ridiculous. Game Freak must be really working those Pokemon artists like dogs if they plan on getting ten WHOLE POKEMON out by November! I'll be floored if they even get 5 out, but TEN? IF they can somehow pull off this ambitious goal of ten new Pokemon, Pokemon Sun and Moon will be the BEST games in the entire series!
I feel like it will become a bidding war for the top backer and the only remaining cart of the game. For SNES collectors, this is huge. The chance to own what is possibly the ONLY original copy of a game never released.
Imagine Pokémon Snap U. On rails, just like the OG, but with more variety and branching paths. The TV shows the Pokémon, the gamepad shows what you'd see through the camera lens. Gyro controls: turn the gamepad to move the camera, use the left stick to change the viewing angle on the TV.
If Minecraft wins, I'm gonna puke. Otherwise, it's a pretty good class. Makes you realize just how many hugely important games there are when the Legend of Zelda, Space Invaders, Sonic and Street Fighter 2 are all in the SECOND class of important games.
This is so much better than the staff picks list. They got the eShop games right, except for Steamworld Heist. One of the best eShop games, ranked 3rd behind only Shovel Knight and Phoenix Wright Trilogy, is not rated... at all? Not even an honorable mention? Pretty harsh considering Pokémon Shuffle got an honorable mention...
And the retail list is trash. Of the top 5 games, only two made it onto the list. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was left off for some ungodly reason. That game is incredible. To replace it with X/Y, Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Mario Kart 7 is just atrocious. Mario Kart 7 is a good game, but is so much worse than Mario Kart 8 in every measurable way. X and Y is what happens when you make an already-easy franchise even easier. And for god's sake, Kirby?! I love Kirby, even named my dog after him, but Kirby Triple Deluxe was average, as both a Kirby game and platformer. There's no reason it should be on a top ten list, unless that top ten is cutest 3DS games. Open it up to top 20, and MAYBE I put Kirby on the list. Beating Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for top ten is a sin.
@davidevoid Aside from the obvious framerate issues, Snake Eater 3D really is the definitive version, which is ironic considering it's on a Nintendo handheld.
@davidevoid I played it on the New 3DS, which was fine for most of the game, but the later boss battles were horrible. I won't spoil anything in case you actually want to pick up this gem, but there's one late-game boss battle in particular where I simply couldn't move the camera fast enough to shoot him once I threw him down. The nub just didn't offer any grip, my thumb was sliding off of it. I remedied the situation by rubbing a little sticky tape on my thumb, but still wasn't getting the grip of a controller. I highly recommend the circle pad pro.
There are a few versions of Snake Eater out there, but the 3D version, for some reason, has the best control scheme once you get ZL/ZR and a second stick to work with. The HD collection on the 360 and I think PS3 contains an HD version of Snake Eater, but the control scheme is whack. The only way I can explain the controls on 360 to someone is by saying that the team in charge of porting Snake Eater put the various game actions (shoot, change weapon, CQC, etc) on darts, got drunk, then threw the darts at a dartboard shaped like a 360 controller. Wherever the dart landed, that's where they put the action. It's awful.
It's totally worth buying a circle pad pro to play the best version of one of the best games of all time. I highly encourage you do so.
My top ten, which I list as if anyone here cares: 1. Ocarina of Time 3D (duh, it's frickin fabulous) 2. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (after 400 hours, it HAS to be up here) 3. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (best of both a movie and a game) 4. Shovel Knight (best platformar. evar.) 5. Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds (no words needed) 6. Super Mario 3D Land (not quite as good as Shovel Knight, but still awesome) 7. Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies (OBJECTION!!!) 8. SteamWorld Heist (amazing turn-based gameplay, awesome soundtrack) 9. Super Smash Bros 3DS (portable Smash) 10. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (never have I had so much fun inflicting pain on a small child to help him kill his possessed mother!)
Honorable Mentions: Pushmo/Crashmo Kirby: Triple Deluxe Professor Layton games Mario Kart 7
If DS games were included, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers would move down LBW for #5, and Black and White would be somewhere up there.
I'm in support of this, and it's because I feel like a can trust Nintendo to not go after anyone and everyone who uses it. I think this is more of a brand security thing than anything malicious, and I hope the big N proves me right.
The 3DS version looks like trash. it was running so slow, the Wii U version was several seconds ahead, even though they started at the same time. And the 3DS couldn't even render all the enemies, and when it did, they were like 15 pixels each. Why couldn't they have just made it N3DS exclusive? It follows all the other N3DS exclusives in that it's a low-risk port (Binding of Isaac, Xenoblade 3D), and only can run in 3D on the New 3DS. I really wish Nintendo would show some more love to the people who scooped up their expensive new handheld. I love mine, don't get me wrong, but some more exclusive titles would be a great sign of appreciation from Nintendo.
@MysteriousBebsi Moreso salty about everything to do with the game. I'm not a fan of the way they've done DLC with the new version. The cheaper, worse version of the game gets more DLC than the full, better version, but only some, and it's available for download on Wii U, but not right now? The whole thing's a mess.
Speaking of a mess, the 3DS port comes to mind. The Wii U version looked sooo good, and the 3DS version looks pretty terrible and comes at a lowwwww framerate. That's fine for Smash, which released the Wii U version after, as an upgrade to the 3DS version. But why release the worse version after the better one? And cheaper, despite having more content that would've cost money on the Wii U version? Imagine if they did this with Smash. Wii U version launches first, then they wait 9 months and release a 3DS port for $40 and include Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta. It would be a big F U to the people who purchased Smash for Wii U first. They are the loyal fans, they bought it upfront for more money, they should get the bonus!
I'm also upset at the fact that they couldn't make the damn thing New 3DS exclusive. They can't even use the 3D effect on the old systems because it would run at .5 frames per second! It's obvious that the old system can't run the game effectively, but the New 3DS can. The New 3DS only has 2 other exclusive titles, so Hyrule Warriors Legends would make a welcome addition to the party of 2. AND if that wasn't enough, it fits the pattern of the new 3DS exclusives! Xenoblade is a port, Binding of Isaac is a port, Legends is a port! They couldn't show any love to the adopters of their new system, which has sold very well, by the way.
Disclaimer: this rant is based on the business dealings of Nintendo, and does not reflect my feelings on the game, which I do not own, nor intend to own due to the fact that I dislike button-mashing hack-n-slash games.
It's not that I don't want to buy download, it's that I can't. You can't just give 32 gigs of space, some of which isn't even available for storage of eShop games, and put in a download-only system. Either give us more space or open up physical rewards. If I bought an external hard drive now, it would render any rewards I get pointless because of the money I'd be spending on the freaking hard drive!
I'm really looking forward to playing this demo, but the prospect of moving to the UK to do so doesn't really appeal to me that much. NoA hasn't been very good to us, between the amiibo situation, the pathetic virtual console releases, and now this. Come on, Reggie.
@CCHawk I can give the game this: the 3D effect is probably some of the best on the system. They did really good with that aspect. That being said, the entire game has an unpleasing aesthetic, and "pixels" that are so large it makes the graphics look lazy.
This game's art style pisses me off. It's so unrealistic. The faux-pixels are way too big to be Super Nintendo, but the game looks better than a Super Nintendo game. Not to mention the aesthetic is unpleasant. Shovel Knight got true NES-esque graphics right, even if they did bend the rules a tad. This just looks like the Super Nintendo threw up on a flash game.
I'm not dissing the gameplay, as I do not own the game, just the art direction.
It's not like you NEED a demo. The full version has been out for months, and it only takes 5 minutes of research to figure out that the framerate can only be expressed as a fraction and that the Wii U version is far superior.
That being said, it really bothers me how they don't give a demo for any of the big games being released. The Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate demo is ridiculous. 3 monsters to fight, every weapon in the game AND online support? It's got more content than most games! And don't even get me started on the full version of the game (two words: 400 hours)!
If you're gonna force us to buy digital, at least give us some more storage, Nintendo! I can't download any more games, and I've only downloaded WWHD, Pikmin 3, Splatoon, and MH3U! Four games, and the console's out of storage. A USB storage system is just as much as a game, so I've literally got a flash drive plugged into my Wii U.
This one's tough, but I think Snowman will win popularity and lose victories. I will, however, be going with Snowman because sand castles can either be really cool when made by a pro, or literally a lump of wet sand when made by most of the population.
They're really hitting it hard with this competitive scene, yet player 1 has to use the gamepad?! It's totally counter-intuitive. Splatoon was not marketed as competitive, therefore the Gamepad is the only option and there is no competitive community. Smash has the Gamepad as an option, but also supports good controllers like the Gamecube controller. I just feel like there will be a lot of competitive players not wanting to learn two controllers and fight over who uses which one. This game'll flop at CEO and EVO, just watch.
@DWWM The fans are still divided. People say its a spin-off because of the Hunter Arts, Hunting Styles, and lack of new monsters. Also the new weapon and armor upgrade system. It has the same gameplay though, so I say it's a main series game with somewhat different gameplay elements thrown in.
I already got on the MHX hype train for the Japanese release, I'm not letting myself do it all over again for a U.S. release. Too much stress
I really wanted to get Rebirth on my New 3DS, but now with Afterbirth coming out only on the Wii U, I'm wondering if I should opt for the Wii U version instead. Do you think there's a chance they could get the New 3DS to run Afterbirth?
The C-stick has been fine for me with a more slow-paced game like Monster Hunter or even Majora's Mask to a certain degree, but trying to play Snake Eater 3D with it was hell.
Soo... let me get this straight. The WIi U Version costs more than the 3DS version, but gets less stuff? Then what about the person who bought Hyrule Warriors day one, and didn't get any of the DLC?
"Thanks for buying our game early! Now we're releasing a cheaper version months later with more content!"
Like, imagine if they did that with Smash. Smash Wii U releases with no DLC. SSB3DS releases with all the DLC, for $40, months later. Nothing for the Wii U owners. Seems like a lousy way to rewards your customers. Then again, I never bought Hyrule Warriors because it looked like an over-flashy hack-and-slash. My brother got it and I played it briefly with no trouble hacking and slashing my way to boredom.

Re: Review: Lovely Planet (Wii U eShop)
IS it compatible with the Wii U Pro Controller? If not, I won't really consider getting it. FPS's are just so much better on anything but the gamepad. I guess it's just the clunkiness of it, but Splatoon is annoying having to use the gamepad only, even when using analog controls.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th March (North America)
Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?
It's not that I don't want to buy download, it's that I can't. You can't just give 32 gigs of space, some of which isn't even available for storage of eShop games, and put in a download-only system. Either give us more space or open up physical rewards. If I bought an external hard drive now, it would render any rewards I get pointless because of the money I'd be spending on the freaking hard drive!
As for my 3DS, I have 16 gigs, so I'm good.
Re: The Pokémon Company Confirms Outstanding Lifetime Sales for the Franchise
Most popular super bowl commercial? I thought it was ok, but it didn't really scream Pokemon until like 25 seconds in.
Re: Pokkén Tournament Demo Comes Out Fighting On The European Wii U eShop
I'm really looking forward to playing this demo, but the prospect of moving to the UK to do so doesn't really appeal to me that much. NoA hasn't been very good to us, between the amiibo situation, the pathetic virtual console releases, and now this. Come on, Reggie.
Re: Review: Mutant Mudds Super Challenge (Wii U eShop)
@CCHawk
I can give the game this: the 3D effect is probably some of the best on the system. They did really good with that aspect. That being said, the entire game has an unpleasing aesthetic, and "pixels" that are so large it makes the graphics look lazy.
Re: Review: Mutant Mudds Super Challenge (Wii U eShop)
This game's art style pisses me off. It's so unrealistic. The faux-pixels are way too big to be Super Nintendo, but the game looks better than a Super Nintendo game. Not to mention the aesthetic is unpleasant. Shovel Knight got true NES-esque graphics right, even if they did bend the rules a tad. This just looks like the Super Nintendo threw up on a flash game.
I'm not dissing the gameplay, as I do not own the game, just the art direction.
Re: Nintendo Download: 17th March (North America)
@MysteriousBebsi
They did, it's called Hyrule Warriors.
Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy
If you're gonna force us to buy digital, at least give us some more storage, Nintendo! I can't download any more games, and I've only downloaded WWHD, Pikmin 3, Splatoon, and MH3U! Four games, and the console's out of storage. A USB storage system is just as much as a game, so I've literally got a flash drive plugged into my Wii U.
Re: North America's Next Splatfest Will Take Place This Friday
This one's tough, but I think Snowman will win popularity and lose victories. I will, however, be going with Snowman because sand castles can either be really cool when made by a pro, or literally a lump of wet sand when made by most of the population.
Re: The Pokémon Company Steps Up Its Promotion of The Pokkén Tournament Championship Series
Re: Video: Sit Back and Enjoy Two Hours of Monster Hunter Generations Gameplay
@DWWM The fans are still divided. People say its a spin-off because of the Hunter Arts, Hunting Styles, and lack of new monsters. Also the new weapon and armor upgrade system. It has the same gameplay though, so I say it's a main series game with somewhat different gameplay elements thrown in.
I already got on the MHX hype train for the Japanese release, I'm not letting myself do it all over again for a U.S. release. Too much stress
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is Coming to Wii U
I really wanted to get Rebirth on my New 3DS, but now with Afterbirth coming out only on the Wii U, I'm wondering if I should opt for the Wii U version instead. Do you think there's a chance they could get the New 3DS to run Afterbirth?
Re: Random: New 3DS Owner Replaces the C-Stick With a PSP Stick
The C-stick has been fine for me with a more slow-paced game like Monster Hunter or even Majora's Mask to a certain degree, but trying to play Snake Eater 3D with it was hell.
Re: Hyrule Warriors Legends Season Pass Confirms Four Waves of DLC for 3DS Release
Soo... let me get this straight.
