Re: Nintendo Warns It'll Block Rule Breaker's Access to Super Mario Maker's Online Features

happylittlepigs

If they don't want people glitching the games, then FIX THE GLITCHES! God, this is lazy. "Instead of actually doing shit to fix our broken game, we'll just ban anyone who uses the glitches!" The first one is akin to advertising in the Youtube comments section or on reddit or whatevs, so I can let that slide. The last rule is also in place already, but the issues with their Code of Conduct are for another day. The second rule... I see several problems with it.

For one, laziness! They couldn't just patch out the bugs? Nintendo, a multi-billion dollar multinational corporation can't assign a small team to fix level-breaking glitches in their most popular game?

Secondly, I have a problem with the way that rule is worded. "Unintended by either the course creator or the developers to obtain new World Records" What about levels where the creator showcases a glitch they found? Would a person be banned for playing it? What about the creator, would they be banned? Can I get banned for making a level that contains a glitch? How does Nintendo know about all the applicable glitches and how ot determine which levels contain the glitch? Would only the world record holder be banned? What about the guy who was .0001 seconds slower than the world record holder? Does he get banned, too? What about some random guy who just happens to trigger a glitch, like what happened in a Super Mario World episode of Game Grumps? There is so much gray area in this rule, they ought to release it in theaters as the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey.

Not to mention the fact that the rule is totally oppressive. Nintendo has always had the attitude of, "You shall play our games the way we want you to, or else you won't play them at all!" The most recognition competitive Smash has gotten from Nintendo was Reggie saying "no johns" in a Direct, and the Smash Brothers Invitational. Then you look at the Pokemon Company, who have put on every event in both the video games series and the card game, make the rulesets for both the VGC and TCG, advertise the events on their website and put up the footage from the events, release the World Champion's deck at retail, and so much more. And in 2013, Nintendo tried to stop Melee from being played at EVO, even after the Smash fans raised almost $100,000 just to see their game played.

Not surprising, but very disappointing. They finally make a do-it-your-way game, then make us do things their way.

Re: UK Pre-Orders Open for Pokkén Tournament Pro Pad and Bundles, But It's Incompatible With Other Games

happylittlepigs

"Note that due to software design, Player One must always use the Wii U Gamepad for local battles."

Wait... what? Pokken Tournament is in the EVO 2016 lineup, and you're telling me that poor player 1 has to use the Gamepad? This just doesn't sound right. In Smash tournaments, the Gamepad isn't even legal! And now it looks like one player gets stuck with the Gamepad and the other gets a much more desirable arcade pad/pro controller. I really hope I'm just reading this wrong...

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

happylittlepigs

@SNESDisney The original Legend of Zelda was good for it's time and still stand up today, but pales in comparison to later Zeldas. First of all, the OG can be praised for it's exploration mechanics. The allure of discovering a cave with a moblin inside bribing you to keep his secret is almost unrivaled, as is a cave with an old man offering you a sword with a cryptic message telling you how to get it. In my full playthrough of Zelda I, I enjoyed discovering these secrets above all else. Unfortunately, the game falls flat in a number of other areas. The difficulty scaling in Zelda I is truly horrendous. Until you get the blue ring/white sword, the game is hard as balls, and once you get it there's almost no challenge until the final dungeon which goes back to being balls-hard. There is no smooth transition; you are either a weakling getting pushed around by any monster who challenges you, or a total badass hero that slays anything in his path without lifting a finger. In addition, the way the game raises difficulty is just cruel. Instead of making enemies more tactical, smarter or punishing to raise difficulty, the developers just throw in a bunch of enemies. A room full of 6 or 7 blue Darknuts is not uncommon, and the ones I hate most are rooms with 2 Bubbles, a Like-like, 3 Wizzrobes and a few Keese. At that point, it's just cheap. What also sucks is the combat system. Enemies can change direction with absolutely no limitations, warning or loss in speed, and that is only worsened by your only sword ability being the poke and the beam, but the beam can;t be used when the enemies can hit you out of nowhere. I like Zelda I just as much as the next guy, but when you take the nostalgia goggles off, it's very flawed in more ways than one.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Wanted Geno to be a Playable Smash Bros. Fighter

happylittlepigs

I've never played Super Mario RPG before, but I really like to see characters from Nintendo's past make it into Smash. I was rooting for Shovel Knight, but if they put in Geno, Wolf, Snake, or King K. Rool I would not have been disappointed. Instead we got Bayonetta and Corrin. Bayonetta's position is debatable. She was one of the top candidates, but that was AFTER they weeded out all the "unattainable" characters, but did not provide a definition for "unattainable". For all we know, Wolf was considered "unattainable" because they were just like, "Nah, let's not do that." So I think the ballot results were a sham made to look like everyone and their dog voted for Bayonetta. Corrin's position in Smash is not debatable. AT ALL. Nobody wanted him in. The game wasn't even out in the U.S. or Europe! But because Sakurai loves his Fire Emblem, Corrin gets into Smash. A mostly-unknown JRPG that is not even one of Nintendo's top 20 best-selling franchises (including Japanese sales) somehow deserves 7 freaking characters? Pokemon is a worldwide phenomenon an deach game makes buku bucks for Nintendo. They get 7. Mario is literally the face of gaming. They get 7, considering Wario and Dr. Mario are their own things. The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo's other hit franchise, only has 5. Kirby only has 3. Donkey Kong, one of the reasons Nintendo got into gaming, only has 2 measly reps. But suuure, just keep putting in the characters from a mostly-unknown JRPG entirely irrelevant to both the history and profits of Nintendo just because you need to hype the new games coming out.

Re: Talking Point: At 30 Years Old The Legend of Zelda is Well Placed to be Nintendo's Most Influential Franchise

happylittlepigs

@Harmunt Why? First of all, Twilight Princess is older and in greater need of a remaster. Skyward Sword still looks phenomenal. Remaking it only 5 years later would just look like a cash-grab. Plus an HD remaster of Skyward Sword would have to be more than just a remaster. Because most of the game is spent tediously slashing a constantly-calibrating Wiimote at a Deku Baba, Nintendo would need to retool every enemy in the game. Twilight Princess already had the Gamecube layout, so no retooling was needed. And more people liked Twilight Princess than Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword is overall less liked by the community because of the awful motion controls, overall hand-holding nature of the game and other flaws. Twilight Princess is better to remake all-around.

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th February (Europe)

happylittlepigs

Pokémon kicks off it's badass 20th anniversary with two fabulous games...
in Europe. Grr.
Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow was literally my most hype moment of the most recent Direct.
Pokémon GO looks promising, if you aren't disgusted by the mobile gaming industry.
Pokémon Z is practically confirmed at this point.
Pokken Tournament already has a spot at EVO 2016.
The Super Bowl ad wasn't very obviously Pokémon, but it had high production value.
Pokémon Generations is releasing, showing kids what TCG battling was like before every Pokémon had 390 HP and each attack dealt 200 damage. Oh, wait, never mind. Just more ridiculous EX and Mega cards with Japanese writing on them that can give people seizures. I'm actually kind of disappointed about that last one, but I'll leave it in there because it's a healthy rant.

There's just one this missing, Nintendo... and it's staring you straight in the face. The gyroscope, the camera, HOW OBVIOUS MUST THIS BE! Pokémon Snap 3D or Pokémon Snap U needs to be a thing. I don't care how it's implemented, it just has to happen! Imagine a beautiful HD open world where you walk around and take pictures of Pokémon in their natural habitat, not like the on-rails experience on Nintendo 64. Sharing your photos to Miiverse or even (god forbid) ACTUAL SOCIAL MEDIA! gasp Maybe even bring back the printer stations but like at Best Buy instead of the bankrupt Blockbuster. Just imagine, for a moment, the open world of Xenoblade Chronicles X inhabited by all 718 Pokémon in their natural habitats waiting to be photographed by you, a fledgling Pokémon photographer. I would literally poop myself.

Re: Editorial: Considering the Recipe For Successful Nintendo Remasters and Re-Releases

happylittlepigs

I think Nintendo needs to step up their Virtual Console game. There are over 800 NES games, 721 SNES games, 296 N64 games, over 1000 Gameboy games, 470 Gameboy color games, and over 1000 Gameboy Advance games out there, and somehow the best Nintendo can do is The Adventures of Bayou Billy and Hogan's Alley once every month? With this amount of games, removing the ones whose licenses have expired, Nintendo could EASILY do one NES game per week on both systems AND a SNES/N64/GBA game on Wii U and Gameboy/GBC game on 3DS each week. It would take practically no work to rerelease games they already own the rights to, and not doing so is WASTING money. Granted, the best way to play these games is on the original system, because the satisfaction of inserting a big, grey cartridge and pressing the tray down on the NES is practically unrivaled, but the VC serves as an admittedly less cool way to play the OG games. You know what would also be cool? A TRUE Virtual Console. You just go to your home menu and select "Virtual Console" and a digitally rendered NES, SNES, N64, or GBA shows up with cartridge versions of all the games you've bought, complete with digital box and digital original manual. Each time you buy a game, it gets added to your library, complete with a satisfying cellophane-unwrapping cutscene. You select the one you want to play, and then it gets inserted into the Virtual Console and it cuts to the gameplay. It would make the whole "Virtual Console" experience feel so much more like a classic gaming experience rather than just playing Nintendo ROMS on the internet, minus the free part of it. It's these kind of things Nintendo needs to start doing. The 3DS Gameboy games being able to play with the green tint and on the original screen is a great addition that makes me want to buy more Gameboy games, and the same would be true if they would put a little more effort into the service which so many fans already adore.

Re: Video: Image & Form Discusses SteamWorld amiibo Prospects and SXSW GOTY Nomination

happylittlepigs

There are 3 options as I see it. One is to make one Piper amiibo that works for various things in the game, like Chibi-Robo. The second option is to make an amiibo for each character in the game, which gives each character an upgrade. The last, and IMO best option, is to add new characters through amiibo. It would be neat to see the cast of SteamWorld Dig playable in Steamworld Heist through amiibo, as well as new characters. They should also offer a reduced-price DLC for these characters so that people who don't want a figure don't have to have it, and people can access the DLC even if the figures become rare.

Re: Talking Point: The Easily Forgotten Hardware Release of 2015 - New Nintendo 3DS

happylittlepigs

Nintendo is in a situation where they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they make upcoming games N3DS exclusive, the people who have the N3DS will be satiated, but people with the old 3DS will be super butthurt, and many will just say, "Aw shucks" and not bother. Let's say, hypothetically of course, that a new Kirby game on 3DS has just been announced as a N3DS exclusive. Kirby is a great franchise, but not many fans of Kirby are big enough fans to buy a $200.00 system just to play Kirby. A game like Kirby, which appeals to casual gamers that are more likely to own the old 3DS, would take a huge hit in sales because the fanbase just isn't radical enough to fork over the dough. But, if Monster Hunter X was made a New 3DS exclusive when it (FINALLY) comes to America, the fanbase is DEFINITELY rabid enough to buy a $200.00 system just for that game. Hell, I was thinking about buying a Japanese 3DS and importing a copy of the game!

I guess what I'm saying is that Nintendo needs to be very careful about what they are going to make exclusive and non-exclusive. They need to figure out what games to stay conservative on and release as non-exclusive and which 3DS games to take a gamble on by making them exclusive. And unfortunately, Nintendo has to be very conservative with their exclusivity because if a game sells poorly as a direct result of it not being available on old 3DS's, the shareholders will not be happy. Being that the Wii U not a success in the wallet of Nintendo (still love it to death, though), they cannot afford to take any risks. Which is all too unfortunate for us N3DSXL owners itching for a great exclusive.

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Reader Awards 2015

happylittlepigs

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate really deserved it over two remasters. It's an original game here in the West, and a very good one at that. I bought Majora's Mask the day of the New 3DS's release, and MH4U a month later. Majora's Mask currently has roughly 25ish hours put into it. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has 380. I have played MH4U for 380 glorious hours, and I'm just not at all interested in Majora's Mask anymore. I heard this from some other people and I myself have seen that Majora's Mask just has trouble keeping interest. It's just like "Eh, whatever". No other game have I been so noncaring about after being so hyped for that I bought it at midnight. Not too surprising that Majora's Mask got 1st, but I don't feel it's really earned the title.

Re: Parent Trap: Oft-Forgotten Wii U Features That Matter To Families

happylittlepigs

That whole "no minecraft" thing was a real killer for some friends of mine. These two elementary school-age girls are quite possibly the least likely people on the planet to take part in violent games, but they loved playing minecraft on our 360. What do the parents say? "Well if it's not on our Wii U, I guess we'll have to buy an Xbox One!" These girls have a premier piece of expensive hardcore gaming hardware... to play minecraft. I can't tell if they're the filthy casuals for playing exclusively Minecraft on an xbox one, or if I'm the filthy casual for playing minecraft on my 360...?

Re: Minecraft Wii U Edition Classification Has Been Removed By PEGI

happylittlepigs

A ratings board can't give a rating for a game that doesn't exist. I mean let's be real here, there is no legitimate way that a ratings board could review a game that is not in their possession. Retailer listings can be created falsely by an overexcited employee putting up a product mistakenly. If website manager A is given a list of things to put up on their website, and "amiibo" was next to "Shovel Knight Wii U Physical", then they may have a moment of word confusion and write Shovel Knight amiibo. Now granted, that one came with a picture, but if it didn't, then I'm saying that's how an announcement for something nonexistent could happen. But a conscious REVIEW of a game is no oversight. Someone took their time to look through the game and give it a rating, and someone else put that rating on the website prematurely. Mark my words, Minecraft Wii U is still happening.

Re: Pokémon Picross Arrives On The 3DS eShop Early December

happylittlepigs

@BooJoh Same. Stretchmo is truly free-to-start because it's free to start, and then you need to pay in order to play the full game. That's not sleazy, and is actually more like a pack-in demo than a game. Pokémon Shuffle on the other hand is just pure evil. That game is pay-to-play, which means that you can't just buy the full game. At least there's Trozei for people who like Shuffle's gameplay. There's no paid equivalent to Pokémon Picross, so they had better not screw it up.

Re: Hands On: Getting Pinned Down By Nintendo Badge Arcade

happylittlepigs

Bunny 4 Smash! Love this guy. I wish his (or her?) quizzes were longer and more in-depth, to reward players with free plays if they know their stuff. Also would really like more plays on the practice catcher, even if only the first one gives free plays. It would just give me more of a reason to pick up the game for more than 5 minutes in the morning. Also, even on the New 3DS, the start-up and "collecting badges" screens are WAY too long.

Re: Feature: How We'd Like to See amiibo Used in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

happylittlepigs

I can't be the only one who thinks this amiibo thing is kinda lame. I pay thirteen dollars for a toy that can only be used for trivial things in select games. The reason figures work with Skylanders and Disney Infinity is because you have the motivation to buy them for a specific purpose. I'm not going to drop thirteen dollars on a toy that may or may not have any use in the future. Amiibo represents Nintendo's unfortunate problem nowadays; jumping the gun and releasing things without enough support. Example: Zelda U not coming out until after Starfox U, which comes out after Majora's Mask 3D. It should have been a launch title like Twilight Princess was for the Wii.

Re: Two Pokémon Game Boy Color Titles Dated For North American 3DS eShop

happylittlepigs

@Starwolf_UK I don't even want hacks or infinite TMs or any of that crap. And quite frankly, they could charge 30 or 40 bucks for one of the classics, and I would pay it. It's cheaper to do that than to get a GB or GBC and the game, play it for 3 months, then get a new one because one of the two crashed. If they released Ruby and Sapphire on the eShop for $20 in addition to Alpha and Omega, I would prob get both.

Re: Two Pokémon Game Boy Color Titles Dated For North American 3DS eShop

happylittlepigs

@Interneto Bummer. I have always been DYING to play the original Gen 1-3 games on eShop after my FireRed bit the dust the first step I took out of Victory Road to the Elite 4. Literally. The very first step out of Victory Road. My sapphire died as well, but I played through it 3 times. Those old games just aren't good in terms of longevity, that's why an eShop version with no crashes GUARANTEED would be perfect. Oh well.
