Re: Deals: There Are a Lot of Festive eShop Discounts in North America

happylittlepigs

Anyone who has been on the fence about Monster Hunter, get Generations or 4U. They are cheap and the most accessible games in the series, and what a bargain.
Everyone should be getting Steamworld Dig if they don't have it. For the price of a 3DS theme, you can get a great exploration game with a lot of fun.

I think I'll pick up Street Fighter 4, for $5 there's no real reason not to. I'll wait on Mega Man Legacy until they come back out with the $5 sale again.

Re: SSBMRANK joins with Red Bull eSports to announce Melee Rankings 2016

happylittlepigs

@WilliamCalley Absolutely. With an absurd amount of talent required to be even remotely good at Melee, and competitive scene over 10 years old, it is quite a feat to be named the best melee player in the world. This isn't like competitive Mario Party, casual scum. This is Melee, which is slowly but surely becoming a recognized eSport. Smash 4 still has a ways to go, but competitive Melee is very intricate.

Re: Fresh Download Discounts Come To My Nintendo In North America

happylittlepigs

@XCWarrior The Browns are 0.13, but 4 of those losses were within one score. They are by far the worst team in the league right now, but they aren't worse than My Nintendo. At least hardcore Browns fans actually spend their money to go see losses. Even the most hardcore Nintendo fans can't get behind this awful program. And the Transformers movies... eh. They aren't great but there are SO many worse movies out there. But my worst teacher moving in with me? Yikes. I try to block memories of that woman out of my mind. NO THANK YOU. My Nintendo and the Browns both have one thing in common: potential. Just look at the Raiders. Worst team in the NFL in 2015, now they're winning their division. Panthers in 2014 weren't very good, but they came out and made it to the Super Bowl in 2015. There is still hope for My Nintendo and the Browns. Transformers movies are just kind of eh what can you do? But moving in with the world's worst teacher? Count me out.

Re: Rumour: GameCube Virtual Console Coming To Nintendo Switch

happylittlepigs

@Angelic_Lapras_King Unfortunately, it's near impossible to replicate Melee's natural 1 frame of input lag. Smash 4, even with a wired controller, naturally has I believe 8 or 9 frames of input lag. It isn't as technically demanding, so the extra lag isn't really a problem, but Melee requires frame perfection. I highly doubt the Melee community will move over to playing Melee on the Switch unless Nintendo can keep gamecube controller support and somehow manage to have ZERO lag. Even still, they might not move. Smash 4 players will definitely move over if they add new characters or update the game from 1.16, but if it's just a blank port with added modes, we'll just stay on the Wii U.

Re: My Nintendo Gets Plenty of Legend of Zelda Goodies in North America

happylittlepigs

Oh my god FINALLY a theme that doesn't look like it belongs in the dollar store! Seriously, stock image of Nintendo character on colored background of said Nintendo character is just lazy. I'm glad to spend the 300 coins on a decent theme like this, even though I already have so many themes that my favorite themes selection is overfilled

Re: Guide: Getting Started In Pokémon Sun and Moon

happylittlepigs

My biggest gripe with Sun and Moon is the difficulty, or lack thereof. It's absurdly easy. Z-Moves aren't quite as broken as Mega Evolutions, but they aren't nearly as interesting either. Then of course there's the affection bonuses. I have never had to purchase any status-curing items or farm any status-curing berries, because you get to auto-heal after a battle, and because the Pokemon usually just magically cures itself, so "you wouldn't feel sad." You ALWAYS get critical hits for free, you ALWAYS survive hits that would normally kill you, and you ALWAYS avoid attacks that have 100% accuracy. It's incredibly annoying being handicapped like this. I wish there was an option to turn off the bonuses. I like to play Pokemon Refresh a lot, because I want my sweet Pokemon to be happy, but I hate how it gives me all kinds of unwanted and game-breaking bonuses. After Black and White 2 enabled a harder version post-game, I was hoping they would continue the trend and open it up at the start of the game, but they just scrapped the feature entirely. I was able to sweep the entire elite 4 my first time, mostly using Minior. Lost to the champion, but still.

That being said, I am still very much enjoying my time with the game, and I think it's one of the best Pokemon games in years, at least since Black and White. It's just unfortunate that they couldn't have taken feedback from the large portion of the community that wants an optional more difficult version.

Re: Review: Pokémon Sun and Moon (3DS)

happylittlepigs

@rjejr Pokemon started the 2 version thing to encourage kids to trade with each other. If I have a Vulpix and you have a Sandshrew, and I can't get a Vulpix no matter what and you can't get a Sandshrew no matter what, we trade. If we can both get both, then the only reason to trade is out of laziness for not wanting to bother with capturing a Pokemon.

Re: Review: Pokémon Sun and Moon (3DS)

happylittlepigs

As in love as I am with this game (so good) I feel it necessary to point out the technical failures. It's bad. I'm playing on a New 3DS here, and experienced astronomical slowdown in double battles, battle royals, and battles where the opposing Pokemon summoned another pokemon. Single battles are fine. Which leads me into my second flaw: summoning pokemon. You know how in ORAS and XY you could encounter occasional hordes? Take the annoyance of that and up the frequency by, like, every single wild encounter after the first Kahuna. It turns farming into a real chore because the pokemon you were prepared to fight might team up on you with another pokemon that you're just not ready for. My other complaint is with the Battle Royals. When you first check it out, you are put into a mock battle with some familiar faces where all of you are just using your average level 20 Pokemon, and you are set to win. However, after you beat this mock battle, you can't redo it, and trying to enter a regular battle pits your level 20-ish pokemon against your opponents pokemon all leveled off to 50. -_- Why put it halfway through the game and force you to play a demo of it to advance the story if it's effectively impossible to play again until you finish the game? That's like taking a kid to the ice rink and letting him use one of those walkers to learn to ice skate in the kiddie rink and then throwing him into a hockey rink the next time he says he wants to go ice skating. Also, bring back gyms. Trials are basically just menial tasks followed by an ever-so-slightly harder than average boss pokemon. You don't even fight the trial leaders most of the time. Each island has one Kahuna (gym leader), but no gym, you just meet em and talk to em.

Notice these are all small gripes. I absolutely ADORE Sun and Moon, and I am playing the hell out of it. I didn't follow all the pre-release info or any of the leaks, so it's really cool seeing totally new Pokemon for the first time since I was, I don't know, 6? And even when I was 6 I was addicted to Pokemon books and manuals and things, so there weren't THAT many that flew under my radar

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards

happylittlepigs

Golly, Nintendo! I sure do like getting $2.00 off an $8.00 eshop game! Wow, those themes sure are bland and generic, I really want to spend my coins on that!

If they at least offered decent themes, then I wouldn't be complaining. Getting a free theme download code for any theme you want would be cool. But instead we get a stock photo of Link, Mario, and Donkey Kong with a blank green, red, or yellow background. With SO MANY awesome themes, WHY on Earth would you create poopy ones just for My Nintendo?

I'm not expecting full free games, but maybe just Virtual Console titles? Think about it: they laready made money on them when they were first sold on the original console. There's a ROM out there for any of them, so it's not like it's exclusive content. Anyone who buys VC games (me) does so because they don't have the original console and want to support Nintendo by playing their games the legit way instead of the cheaper way on ROMs. There's literally no downside to offering VC games for platinum points. SO WHY DON'T THEY?

We don't want discounts for our points. That just means we have to spend our points (earned by spending money) to pay less money, towards a game which we still have to pay money to get! It's like something Mr. Krabs would have cooked up. "Buy Krabby Patties to earn Krusty Points, which earn you 10% off ONE Krabby Patty! It's a bargain!" No. It's a Nibelsnarfing scam. Club Nintendo had actual rewards. Not just physical stuff, but ACTUAL DOWNLOADABLE GAMES. Club Nintendo didn't take your points. All you had to do was prove you were alive at any point in a year by adding or subtracting points, and you kept them. I don't see how NIntendo could have possibly come up with the idea that making Club Nintendo objectively worse would go over well with fans. Awful, awful, awful.

Re: Monster Hunter Generations Has Sold 4.1 Million Units

happylittlepigs

@BlastClaw Kill the Cephadrome. I Nibelsnarfing hate that thing. It's just less fun Nibelsnarf. I actually completed every quest in 2* just to avoid fighting this thing, but it turned out it was a key ;-;

@Niinbendo Get it. I got Monster Hunter because I just wanted something to play on my New 3DS, and the reviews were rave. The only people that don't like Monster Hunter when they try it are graphics snobs and total scrubs. It's relatively difficult, but you get a hang of it. Grinding system is actually fun. Cycle of armor creation will keep you invested for hundreds of hours. Online play is seamless. Awesome game. I put 400 hours into 4U and I'm not even finished. Have 150 in Generations so far.

Re: Video: These 19 Subtle Nintendo Switch Details Might Have Slipped You By

happylittlepigs

@SniffitisWhiffit Umm... the Wii U Pro Controller ring a bell? Totally wireless lol.

Idea: the square button turns motion control on and off.
Idea: There is no motion control. and we're all reading way too much into some Splatoon footage that we know very well may be added in post-production, which would explain why he barely moves his hands in the video.

Re: Guide: Everything We Now Know About the Nintendo Switch

happylittlepigs

Switch is to Wii U as New 3DS is to Virtual Boy. Bravo. They actually made portable/home gaming serious. We don't have to use the gamepad tablet thing when playing at home (cough wii u), when it's at home, it's basically just a home console akin to Xbox One or PS4. No two screen gimmick. No touch screen (I think it's unnecessary and would drive the price up), hopefully no motion controls. When you take it with you, it doesn't feel like a portable like the 3DS, it feels like an entirely different breed. Kind of like you just brought your home console on the road, not like the 3DS which is very obviously designed from the ground up as a portable.

And to all the geniuses saying this will replace the 3DS, I challenge you to fit the SwitchPad with JoyCons in one pocket. I don't care how big your damn pockets are, this thing will not be a "oh let me just get my switch out" console. It will be more of a "let me just set up my switch" console. Better for car trips and things, but not NEARLY as portable as the 3DS, even the XL versions.

Re: Poll: Six Months On - How Do You Feel About My Nintendo?

happylittlepigs

Why is everyone complaining? I love clothes for an obsolete game, 20% discounts on $8.00 software, uninspired themes, and points tha expire before any free games come out on the service! It's just a straight downgrade from Club Nintendo. And it wouldn't even be too hard to fix it! Just put some games in for platinum points. Losing the profit of a $5.00 emulated NES game you have already made major bank on is much better than sponkangering your entire fanbase with a dermodubiculous system that doesn't work.

Re: Editorial: Losing It All - When a Wii U's External Hard Drive Dies

happylittlepigs

This almost happened to me, but admittedly I was using just a flash drive not a full external hard drive. I had my Smash data and Splatoon data on this drive. I tried moving it, the system crashes. I tried copying it, the system crashes. I try opening Splatoon or Smash, and they crash after a while. As a competitive Smash player, I couldn't go a long period without practice, so I deleted my data and just made a new save file. After all, it's just smash, and all I lost were some unlockables which I had back in less than 24 hours. But there was still the issue of Splatoon. I honestly don't even remember how I got it to work, but somehow I was able to get the data onto the console and off the flash drive, which I threw away. Only problem is now I don't have any storage left on my Wii U.

Re: Capcom Working On New Monster Hunter To "Aggressively" Increase Sales

happylittlepigs

Why is everyone saying they will jump ship to PS4? This wouldn't make any sense from a logistics standpoint.
-Monster Hunter has been a NIntendo-exclusive franchise since Tri, about 7 years
-When MH moved to Nintendo platforms, it saw a huge uptick in U.S. and European sales, while Japan still ate it up like crazy
-Japan favors handheld consoles, because so much of their lives is on the go (for example, riding the train to and from work every day)
-The 3DS install base in Japan is astronomically larger than the install base for the PS4

Capcom wants Japan to buy their product because Japan is where their money comes from. The U.S. and Europe are just like little bonus checks. They probably aren't going to localize MHS, just because the bonus check won't be enough. Capcom is all about that Yen. So knowing that Japan is their target audience and Japan favors handhelds and the 3DS has a gigantic install base compared to any other console (handheld or home), why would they ever, EVER, be so stupid as to port it to PS4? 3DS and PS4 have entirely different operating systems, and a port would require a lot of time and money, and if they aren't going to recoup that money from a system that has no brand recognition of Monster Hunter and is relatively unpopular in Japan, then why port it? That's just throwing sweet yen away. Now, the NX, that's up to their team if they want to take a risk, because we as consumers know as much about the NX as a double amputee knows about the tip of Mount Everest.

Hell, even in America, a release on PS4 would leave many Playstation owners confused as to what this "monster hunter" game is. For 7 years, Capcom has been building their brand recognition on Nintendo platforms, so much so that MH4U and I think 3U sold over 1 million units, in a region that is just supposed to be a bonus check for Capcom. Moving to PS4 now, after all the success they have seen on Nintendo, would just be a SILLY BEANS business decision.

Re: Gallery: A Closer Look At The Aether Foundation, Ultra Beasts and More in Pokémon Sun and Moon

happylittlepigs

Calling it right now, there are two options for the bad guys:
1. Team Aether is the bad guys and Skull is misinterpreted/misunderstood, either deliberately or unintentionally
2. Team Aether is good in one game, and bad in the other, and vice versa for Skull. Kind of like a Ruby/Sapphire deal.

There has to be. We are shown the boss, her underling bosses, and even a generic male and female grunt! "Employee" my ass, those are the grunts. The final part of the game will be invading their artificial island and they use all the Pokemon they are "helping" on the island against you.

Re: Video: Find Out What Fans Like About Monster Hunter Generations

happylittlepigs

@Gridattack Any time is a great time to start with Monster Hunter! Whether you pick up 4 Ultimate (my personal favorite) or Generations, you can't go wrong. Never have I met anyone who said they didn't like the game. Never have I met anyone who regretted purchasing the game. And unless you have a SUUUPER tight schedule, most people can put over 200 hours in with ease. In 1 year of playing 4U, I got to 400 hours, and I've played Generations for 100 hours now. It's so fun and addicting to grind for new armor sets, and grinding seems to be easier now in Generations. The only downside to Generations over 4U is a lack of G-Rank late-gamem but you'll still easily get 200 hours out of this game. My only advice to you is BUY IT!!!!

Re: Level-5 Announces Lady Layton, Coming To Nintendo 3DS In 2017

happylittlepigs

As upset as I was about the thought of a female Link, Layton's daughter (won't use any names because Kamui was changed to Corrin for the U.S. release of Fates) seems to be a well-developed character with a lot of spunk. Definitely getting it, but I wonder why even bother releasing it on mobile? What makes you think mobile gamers shudder can actually put enough time into a game like Layton in order to complete it? Their attention span is that of a fruit fly, and most of their time spent playing games is on the toilet or in otherwise boring circumstances. My average session time with both Layton games was 4 hours. What makes them think that mobile gamers have ever played a video game for 4 hours straight?

Re: Hollywood Director Oliver Stone Brands Pokémon GO "Surveillance Capitalism"

happylittlepigs

The idea of living off wind turbines and solar panels in a remote region of Montana (so basically, all of Montana) with a tinfoil hat on to protect against government satellite screening with a safe full of gold instead of cash may be appealing to some, but personally, I'd rather take the risk that Google has a special interest in me and wants to control my life than live in Montana. With or without the tinfoil hat, I'd just rather not live in Montana

Re: With Splatfests Finished, Judd Is Now Your Source of Super Sea Snails in Splatoon

happylittlepigs

After playing the Splatfest with 3 maps, it begs the question, "WHY CAN'T IT ALWAYS BE LIKE THAT?!?!" 3 maps is so much more fun than just 2, and it would get me playing a lot more. With only 2 maps, if I don't like one of them, I just don't play Splatoon. But 3 maps alleviates that. It just frustrates me how they are like, "NO, you only get 2 game modes and 2 maps at a time!" When other online shooters offer all maps and all game modes simultaneously, why doesn't Splatoon follow suit. And don't say it's because we can't change weapons between games, because other online shooters have that feature. It just seems like there are fundamental "WHY U DO DIS NINTENDO?!?" moments in Splatoon that just serve no purpose.

Re: Two Men Sentenced Over 2015 Pokémon World Championships Gun Threats

happylittlepigs

@Kirk I'm genuinely afraid of living in Europe. The way they restict their people's liberties at every chance they get, and what's even scarier is that their people are totally fine with it! And what's scarier than that is that there are actually Americans who want that level of authoritarianism to consume us! It's insanity! I do not trust the government when it comes to restricting our liberties, but the judicial system is functional for several reasons:
-Right to a lawyer
-Right to trial by jury
-Right to speedy trial
-Innocent until proven guilty
-No illegal search/seizure
-Right to remain silent
-Protection agaisnt self-incrimination
-Right to face your accuser
-Right to an appeal
-Reasonable doubt=innocent
-Corrupt police work=innocent
-Protection against double jeopardy
-Protection against cruel/unusual punishment

All of these protections and rights, in my opinion, give the accused an advantaged position when they are brought to trial. Although I do think the system could use reforms such as the removal of the three strikes law which results in people who can get arrested for continuous minor felonies (like drug possession) that cause them to get mandatory life without parole. This seems absurd. A person who is arrested for drug possession 3 times shouldn't go away for life. Each punishment should fit each crime. You shouldn't be able to tthrow that rilwrule out the window on their third offense.

Enough of my tangent, point is that I generally trust the judicial system, but all other branches of government (ESPECIALLY the legislative) are untrustworthy.

Re: Two Men Sentenced Over 2015 Pokémon World Championships Gun Threats

happylittlepigs

@Kirk It is always good to be wary of the government. When you trust the government too much, they take more and more power. The reason the U.S. is the world's most free country is the mistrust of government with power. Our constitution doesn't grant citizens rights or privileges, it prevents the government from messing with them, but I'm sure you already know that. I understand your mistrust of government and wholly value it, but the beautiful thing about our legal system is the rights afforded to the accused. They are innocent until proven guilty, they have the right to an attorney, and trial by jury, and the right to appeal the court's decision. Even with these restrictions tto the power of the state in place, the accused can always challenge it. So, in this case, I trust the judicial system to deliver justice. You have every right to distrust the judicial system, as I do as well to a certain degree, but if there's any branch of government I choose to trust over the others, it's the judicial system because of the rights of the accused.

Re: NES Visual Compendium Dispute Comes To An End, Kickstarter Resumes For Final 24 Hours

happylittlepigs

@Kirk Well spoken.

@-DEMISE- So I'm somehow condescending for wanting to thoroughly overview the case instead of taking sides based on the article alone? Got it. I could have said, "this is defs fair use cuz they wrote reviews!" but instead I opted to thoroughly look at the case objectively, and provide both sides. I even said that, because the book stood to make a profit from something Nintendo could be profiting from instead, that Nintendo may have a case, given previous legal precedent. I linked my articles so that I couldn't be accused of pulling information out of my ass, and so you could check them out if you wanted to learn more about fair use as I did for this case. When you present a half-assed argument that leaves things out and doesn't address all parts of the problem, you get called on it. I learned this on my school's debate team. I did not want to get called out for only representing one side of the story, or one facet of copyright law, so I wrote a full answer addressing all parts of both the case and copyright law. Sorry if you're offended by my "condescending" long answer and source links.
