Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 20 Today!

dcstud

Huge congratulations Nintendo Life! I started taking a break from IGN and reading this site in the Wii era. My Nintendo Life profile just turned 16 years old in October, and I bet in those 16 years I might have skipped visiting the site daily less than a handful of times.

I love the news this site puts out, but I really appreciate the community. In general people posting are nice to each other and that was one of the things that kept me coming back.

Your entire team does a great job, and I really can't imagine a day without you. Here's looking forward to the next 20 years!

Re: The Atari 50 Pac-Man Expansion Launches On Switch Next Week

dcstud

I can't believe I am going to pay for this, but yes I am. Great collection. I was part of the 1st console war generation. Me along with several kids in my neighborhood had the Atari VCS. I kid a few streets over had a Magnavox Odyssey 2 (I was glad I wasn't stuck with that). And a friend down the street had the Intellivision. I first upgraded my Atari with a Starpath Supercharger — pretty bad ass! But then I upgraded to the ColecoVision — my first favorite console!

Re: Nintendo Life Reader Survey 2025

dcstud

For whoever is putting this together. As a digital marketer of over 35 years it seems like age above 45 should be broken down a bit more. There are more and more "experienced" gamers playing constantly and "45 and older" seems to overrepresent itself. My appeal to an advertiser at 56 is quite different than what it would have been in my late 40s.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2024 - Our Most Played Games

dcstud

My stats for the year so far...
Top games:
1. TOTK
2. Paper Mario: The Origami King - completed
3. Splatoon 3 — Single player story - completed
4. Mario & Luigi: Brothership (not in my year in review yet, but ton of hours already)

I played 52 games & 320 hours on Nintendo Switch this year!

Considering I also have a XBOX Series X I play on regularly, and my other hobby is cycling (137 hours this year). I think I'm a pretty committed Nintendo gamer.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th December)

I am 30 hours in to M&L Brothership. I think this is the first time in my 50+ years of playing games that I really have to comment on a game. I am having so much fun! This game is enjoyable the art style and graphics are fantastic. I have such little time each week to play games, but doing everything I can to find time to play.

Early this year I finally finished Paper Mario: The Origami King - Nintendo Switch. I played that on and off for the past couple of years and finally decided to just get it over with. I found that kind of okay. To me a solid 7.

Later this year I bought The Thousand Year Door. Really struggled to get into this and have not found it super enjoyable.

For some reason Brothership hit in a way that the two Paper Mario games just never did. Maybe its because I played this series on the GBA and DS. It is weird as I usually somewhat agree with IGN ratings but man, I couldn't disagree more on this one. I am not a huge fan of long games so and not a big RPG fan, so while I would have been fine if this game was over by now I haven't lost interest yet. I have not ran into any bugs or game slow downs. Been playing on the TV about 90% of the time. Ran fine on my OLED too.

Oh and also trying to play Epic Mickey Rebrushed on my Series X. But that game is not quite as much fun as I remembered.

Re: Mini Review: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration - The First Console War (Switch) - Once More Unto The Breach

@Teksette I had a friend down the street that owned an Intellivison and I would go over and play with him. Was impressed with the games he had. But I later got a Starpath Supercharger for my Atari and it wound up blowing those Intellivision games out of the water. Then when I got my ColecoVision (actually got 2 — first one broke right after the warranty expired) I never looked back. Arcade quality at home. My time was spent seeing how high of a score I could get on Donkey Kong. Soon after this I started dating and didn't keep up with gaming until after I was married. Next system was a N64. Still the ColecoVision is one of my favorite systems of all time.

Re: Nintendo To Go In 'Different Direction' To Current AI Trends, Says Miyamoto

dcstud

I own a marketing agency and have been using AI for the past 2 years and it has made a dramatic difference in the quality of work myself and my team can put out. I would encourage them to leverage AI in ways not thought of.

Perhaps they could use it to find the very limits of their hardware, so that they could better optimize their code for it, leading to improved frame rates. Maybe it could lead to more optimized code for smoother gameplay or smaller file sizes.

A great use for it would be for project management, to better keep an entire team on task.

Treat it like a tool not as a replacement for human creativity, strategy, or talent.

Re: Surprise! New Splatoon 3 amiibo Are On The Way

dcstud

I still don't know what the amiibo do in the game? Does it give you something extra? Do only Splatoon amiibo work or do any of the other Nintendo amiibo? Other than to look at why would I want this.

For what it's worth, been binging my way through Splatoon 3's story mode for the past week and just got to level 5.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (17th August)

dcstud

Bought Splatoon 3 last time it went on sale, a while back, but just opened it for the first time a week ago. Been cranking my way through the single player campaign. Have made it all the way to level 5. Hoping to complete it this week. I am enjoying the single player more in this game than in 1 or 2. Only got about halfway through the single player in 1 and 2. Also got the DLC for 2, but only a quarter of the way through it. Anyway as you can tell really like the single player in 3 and looking forward to checking out the multiplayer and the rest of the game in the coming weeks.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Flight Sim And Space Combat Games

dcstud

Many others have mentioned it, but Starlink: Battle for Atlas has been one of my favorite games on the Switch. I got into it about 6 months after it came out and picked up the digital edition. Waited for much of the DLC to become extremely discounted. Great game, and one of the DLC packs is a full on racing game, similar to that Star Wars racing game. I sunk a ridiculous number of hours into the game and think I last left off at about 2/3 of the way through. Keep meaning to go back, but have a giant backlog of games. Still super enjoyable. And, I did wind up mainly playing with the Starfox crew.

Re: Video: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Gets A New Overview Trailer

dcstud

I have this on the 3DS, but only remember playing maybe a third of it. Yeah, I'll double dip and get this. But first need to finish the one on the Switch. I'm stuck in a boss level — the one with the dinosaur. Played it a couple of times and just got frustrated with that boss and put it down.

Re: Rumour: New Report From Nikkei Corroborates 'Switch 2' Delay Into 2025

dcstud

Here is another thought. What if Microsoft really is about to roll out a XBox portable unit similar to the Switch or Steamdeck. What is the chance Nintendo wants their next system to adequately be able to fend it off and to be able to compete for the next 5-8 years. And, so such requires a beefier chipset from Nvidia - hence hardware delays. Just a crazy ass thought from some old guy who has been watching this play out since the 70s.

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 18 Today

dcstud

Happy Birthday NintendoLife. I've been a member since 2009, and visited the site often before I became a member. I love the community you have fostered here. This feels like the one place we can come and share our thoughts and for the most part they are positively appreciated.

And, kudos to your entire editorial team. For many years now I come to NL before going to IGN — more solid Nintendo news and more articles that Nintendo fans want to read. And huge shoutout for supporting us readers during the Wii U years!

Also a big shoutout to the video team. The entire team is fantastic, huge fan of Zion and Alex. And Felix seems to be a great recent addition. But that's enough waffling let's dive right in 😉.

All my best to your company and I hope we're all here in another 18 years!

Re: Review: Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged - A Cool, Creative Racer That Expands The Playset

dcstud

So nice I bought it twice. First on the Switch, and then for the improved graphics on the Series X. The graphics were actually fairly close between the two, but the Series X provided 60fps. I wound up buying all the DLC too long before the game wound up on Game Pass.

I am so looking forward to this game but going to save it as a Christmas present to myself. Wish a Switch 2 was out to play on, but until then will probably wind up getting it on the Series X again.

That is okay, most of all the games I am playing are on my Switch and I have a backlog that will last me many years.

Re: Ubisoft Has Reportedly Cancelled Plans For An Immortals: Fenyx Rising Sequel

dcstud

That is annoying as I was really looking forward to the sequel. I absolutely loved this game! I tried playing BOTW twice and sunk 20 hours into it without hooking me. This game got me from the beginning. Loved its story, found it funny at times with some great twists. I'm not a huge fan of combat in games, but somehow the combat really hooked me. I loved the constant leveling up. Did not like the harder portal puzzles though.

Now, I did wind up getting back into BOTW and it hooked me and I sunk 160+ hours into it. But, Immortals Fenyx Rising was really great.

Re: Hot Wheels Unleashed Appears To Be Getting A Sequel

dcstud

I played a good chunk of Unleashed on the Switch. Then I bought it on the XBox Series X for better graphics/framerate. Truth is I couldn't tell that much difference. I wound up buying all dlc and sinking more than 70 hours into it... only for it to come to GamePass just as I was about finished with it. Not a huge racing game fan, but this game just hit all the right buttons for me. Yes, I am looking forward to a sequel.

Re: Level-5 CEO Teases What's Next For Yo-Kai Watch

dcstud

I bought 3 for my 3DS after the amazing reviews. This was, my first pocket monsters style game. Tried playing Pokemon Sun & Moon afterwards. Yo-Kai Watch 3 hooked me like Pokemon really couldn't. And, it has some of the best graphics the 3DS has put out. Also one of the largest-sized 3DS games too. I want them to bring 4 and maybe something new to the Switch.
