Atari's take on the WarioWare formula, Atari Mania, has bagged a firm release date and will be landing on the Switch on October 13th. Originally announced back in June, the game will feature over 150 microgames inspired by the Atari's comprehensive catalog spanning several decades.
The game comes as Atari itself celebrates its 50th anniversary, having launched back on June 27th, 1972. Players looking to mark the occasion need not limit themselves to Atari Mania, however, as the company will also be launching Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration later this year, which will feature over 90 playable titles and supplementary "museum" style extras.
Here's some more info on what to expect from Atari Mania:
- Manic Mashups – Over 150 microgames inspired by the breadth of Atari’s decades-spanning catalog, from Asteroids to Yars’ Revenge. Fight back Centipedes with a Pong paddle while the iconic Adventure dragon hunts you down! It’s crossover madness in the best way possible!
- Excellent Exploration – Solve tricky puzzles and utilize clever tools to progress through the Vault and discover classically-inspired Atari Easter Eggs.
- Pixel-Perfect Pizzazz – A charming neo-retro art update to the classic Atari 2600 style is completed by a soundtrack of retro-inspired jams.
- Characters Like You’ve Never Seen Them Before – Go face to antennae with some of the greatest games and characters in video game history. Trust us—you’ll never think of Bentley Bear the same way again!
- Treasure Trove of Atari History – Collectibles abound, including vintage Atari art, posters, manuals, and fun facts. Fully playable versions of remastered Atari classics are unlocked by completing cheeky challenges.

I never had an Atari but is this how the games actually looked back in the day or are they remakes with new graphics?
WarioWare without the charm?
Oh this looks really good but i can’t deal with another game coming out in October
@Clyde_Radcliffe They looked a lot worse. It seems they upgraded them a little for these mini-games.
I really love this collection. It sparks a nostalgic feeling I never really knew I had for these games. I never had an Atari myself, but some of my school friends did and I remember fondly playing some of these games!
this looks cool. atari games are already pretty simple and bite-sized, playing dozens of them in short bursts sounds pretty frantic and fun
I’m excited for this one.
A shame they couldn't call it Atarioware.
Back in the PSP days there was an “Atari warioware clone” called “Hot Pixel” it was fun so I might try this one.
I just want them to remake E.T it was the worst licenced game ever but Atari now got the chance to make it fun at least. But it will never happen
“In the absence of any actual WarioWare game recently”
The last one came out literally just over a year ago… that’s pretty recent
@AlienigenX Great game. My favourite Warioware a like has to be Frobisher Says on the Vita. Still dust it off for a play now and again. Real stupid fun. Also special mention to Bishi Bashi on PS1.
Looks cool. Warioware: Get It Together had just finished its year’s worth of challenge content, so I’m seeing myself play the game less. Would love t give this a go if it releases on Stadia Pro like some of the other recent Atari games.
@dimi There are much worse licensed games, imho. ET isn’t that bad…there are a couple poor design choices (the constant falling into pits), but you gotta remember when this came out. The game is actually quite deep (as deep as those pits!) for a 2600 game! Also, if you read the manual, the game made more sense.
Short story: ET gets too much hate.
@Pillowpants I never had the 2600 but I eventually got an Atari 400 and 800xl. I really enjoyed a lot of what Atari did. The Lynx was so ahead of its time and the arcade games were cool. Pretty much all of that is forgotten now
Big surprise! I love Warioware....and warioware has a lot of game modes and huge replayability. This game could be a amazing in multiplayer competition. Please: multiplayer game modes!
I like that Atari is doing something with their IP unlike Sega and Sony which does nothing with all the IPs they had.
@Markiemania95 haha this is what I was thinking. "Am I a joke to you" - Warioware Get it Together
I wonder if Custer's Revenge will be included?
@Clyde_Radcliffe
No they looked nothing like this. For example google "Outlaw Atari 2600" and compare it to the part of the video that has two cowboys shooting at each other.
This is a pretty brilliant way to modernize the really simplistic gameplay of that era.
@uphigh7
Man... there are so many modern games which try to be shocking or offensive... but I doubt if anything will ever top that game. Unbelievably wrong and horrid, that game.
Glad to see Breakout! Too bad Activision titles can’t be included. Needs Pitfall!.
No physical to go along with Atari 50 and Atari Flashback?
@Clyde_Radcliffe They're remakes with new graphics.
@Ogbert What about it lacks charm?
@uphigh7 That'd be pretty funny XD
@Clyde_Radcliffe they never looked that good. It is a remake with improved stylized graphics.
This is a great way to relive some nostalgia from my youth with better graphics. Looks like fun. Hope it is.
I am highly intrigued by the idea and, if it works for me, it could be a real bash. I had an Atari back in the day, my introduction to gaming as a wee lad.
@Ogbert Vintage Atari has a load of charm.
@BearsAndBattles @PinkScepter98 I guess you need a nostalgia for it.
I don’t have any nostalgia for this and it just all felt a bit bland and lacking in character and charm. WarioWare has loads of weird characters and scenarios and lots of different art and animation styles all mixed in. It feels like nothing is off the table and weird and silly is encouraged. This was all the same basic looking pixel art, which I given the theme kinda makes sense but it could be a lot more.
Just feels like a missed opportunity to bring some of these IP to a new audience rather than just those who know it already.
I love this! My first console was a 2600 & I loved it. I hope they do a good job here.
