Re: Review: Hive Jump (Wii U eShop)

dcstud

@tsdenizen I love my Wii U and still buy games for it frequently. I am one of those Wii U owners that still checks every Thursday for the possibility of new releases or virtual console releases and see which games are being discounted. Heck this past week I bought Darksiders Warmastered Edition and Stick it to the Man. As I am trying to only pick up the cream of the crop I depend on a site like NintendoLife to let me know which eshop games are good or are crap. I'll move to the Switch in six months or so, right now I am really enjoying my Wii U.

Re: Rumour: LEGO Dimensions Has Apparently Been Killed Off

@Fuz Thank you. Yeah, I get annoyed having to move the figures around the base to solve the problems. I get what the developers were going for in trying to have physically interactive toys, but I would enjoy the game a lot more if I wasn't constantly reaching for the base to move characters around. I'm still okay with the game, and looking forward to playing the expansion sets.

Re: Rumour: LEGO Dimensions Has Apparently Been Killed Off

@Fuz I too am enjoying playing it. I have a list of expansion packs on my list and these are part of my huge Wii U backlog. My biggest frustration has been having to use the portal for everything including all the puzzles. Really hate that. Wish they would do it just like is done in Lego City. Now, I just recently finished the main story line and am about to do the adventure worlds, so hoping the portal is not as integral other than to swap characters.

Re: Review: Culdcept Revolt (3DS)

Never played a game like this before, but I've been interested since I first saw info about it months ago. Been on my wish list, but now I have several 3DS games on my list to get, starting with Metroid. I do think I would like to give this game a try though.

Re: Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition Gets Another Welcome Patch

@ACK Thank you for your detailed description of what to do. Both my teenage boys have been playing it for years. I keep thinking I might want to try it, but the idea of playing a game without a formalized end goal kind of bothers me. Also, I don't know if I want to spend time just building.

That said, so many people seem to enjoy it, and it looks cool. I've been trying to get me kids to explain the ins and outs and they haven't done a good job. So, I appreciate you descriptions.

Re: Review: Mario Sports Superstars (3DS)

This so pisses me off. I was really looking forward to a decent baseball game for the 3DS. Why do the other platforms get somewhat competent baseball games and Nintendo doesn't. Heck, I'm thinking about putting in my Mario Super Sluggers in my Wii U so I have some kind of baseball game to play.

This might be what actually pushes me to finally get a PS4. Really was looking forward to a good portable baseball game.

Re: Feature: A Chat About Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Evolution of the Franchise

@CB85 I spent about 140 hours on Skyward Sword. Really loved it. Finished the last dungeon and have the last boss left to beat — hadn't touched it in months. There were parts of that game that were too challenging for me and it took me months sometimes to pass them, like that challenge in which you had to fly your bird to destroy 10 targets in the limit time. I must have done that challenge well over 100 times before I could pass it. This was played over 2 years.

Now playing Twilight Princess HD and about 30 hours in. Really loving it.

Re: Video: Super Bomberman R Gameplay And Intro Sequence Get Shown Off

Since I am waiting a little while on the Switch, but wanted some Bomberman action decided to get Bomberman Blast on the Wii U... technically the Wii. Went to the Wii eshop on my Wii U and downloaded Bomberman blast for $10. The online play doesn't work anymore, I just wanted to play it with my friends and kids. It supports up to 8 local play and there are a crazy amount of game options and modes. And graphically, it holds up pretty well.

Re: Here's What the "R" in Super Bomberman R Means

dcstud

Realizing that I need to wait on buying a Switch for a while as I still have a huge backlog of Wii U games that will keep me quite busy this year, I still wanted some Bomberman action. So, I went to the Wii eshop, inside the Wii U's Wii compatibility mode and bought Bomberman Blast. Now of course I don't get the online play, as that as long been killed. But, I can play up to 8 players locally (not that I ever will). Game holds up great! Had some friends over last weekend and they wanted to play it for hours. Biggest downside is that I don't have an icon for it on my main Wii U menu, and have to remember to put it into Wii mode. But small price to pay to play Bomberman now.

Re: Editorial: Happy New Year from All at Nintendo Life

Happy New Year all. Even though the Wii U is taking its last breaths, I find myself with a HUGE backlog of games, and several on my slate still to get. I am very much looking to the Switch this year, but I really have more than enough Wii U software to tide me over and then some. Heck, just last week I decided to crack open the Shantae and the Pirate's Curse that I got in the Humble Bundle a while ago — crazy, awesome game! Hope we all have a wonderful new year!

Re: Review: LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Wii U)

Read early on that the Wii U version wasn't going to get the DLC and the port wasn't on par with the rest of the versions. Since I've had a busy summer and tired of fighting with my kids for the PS4 or XBONE I got it on the 3DS. It is really a very competent port. I have been having a great time with it. It looks great and they didn't compress the video or audio too much. All of the cut scenes seem to be in it. I would have loved to see a review of the 3DS version early on, but I decided to take a go at it and have been fairly happy.

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Sad. Just got 3.0 and a Star Wars play set this past week and have been blissfully playing it. While this announcement does nothing to diminish my fun, it is sad that the series will not continue and that the developers are now out of work.

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 10 Today

dcstud

For the past 3 years or so I have checked this site out at least 3 days a week. While my kids are playing XBOX, I am still enjoying my Wii U and 3DS. This seems to be the best site so that I can stay current with what is happening in the industry surround Nintendo. Thank you for great content and a very well designed site!

Re: Review: Super Mario Ball (Wii U eShop / Game Boy Advance)

dcstud

One of my favorite games of all time. I'm 45 and remember playing this the entire day I was waiting for my youngest son to be born. I recently played this on a modern day big screen and was blown away with how well the game holds up. Everything pops. I do have to say that I have always found it rather challenging and for as many hours as I have sunk into it have only made it about half way through the game. Only recently did I discover through a video that there was so much more I had never found. Check this out, it is a true gem, and one that I wish Nintendo would give an updated take on.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Arcade Games on Virtual Console?

dcstud

Actually the first home version was licensed and designed by Coleco for the ColecoVision. They had rights to port to home consoles at the time prior to the NES in the US. I do have to say that I have played both the ColecoVision and the NES version and I can't tell a difference. Even that little spot on the 1st screen on the ladder where you can pause and then hurry up the ladder are in both versions.
