Re: Valve's Steam Deck Hopes To Avoid Switch's Joy-Con Drift Issues

Until some company invests the R&D into some sort of like… sealed enclosure analog stick, this will continue to be a bit of a spectre to some degree for most controllers AFAIK. The Switch has the added hurdle of that graphite dust, but most sticks can drift given the right amount of environmental abuse.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Dread Be The Franchise's 'Awakening'?

@The_New_Butler yeah, I couldn't agree more with this. I think it actually could have the opposite effect. I think the marketing budget and price point are alluding to a much deeper experience than I PERSONALLY think this game is going to end up being. My money is firmly banked that this game is going to be a massive let down for anyone who isn't a die hard Metroid fan who is already invested in the storyline. I think if we still had the 3DS or an equivalent, this would be a 40$ game.

If Nintendo still had a separate handheld console, none of the games announced at E3 would be full home console prices, except Mario Party maybe (edit). They would be priced as the smaller projects/experiences that they are. I’m out on these three games (Dread, Wario and Advanced Wars). They just smell of cash grab to me. To each their own, though. Enjoy! Hope they end up being good.

@GameCollector84 I agree! I’m not saying everyone needs to do Game Pass, I’m saying everyone needs to offer some sort of response to it. Sony needed to announce major PS Now changes, Nintendo needed to seriously bolster their NSO offerings. SOMETHING. Because business as usual isn’t going to cut it IMHO.

As someone pointed out already, the dude’s directing credits are super light. I don’t know what everyone expected. Sonic was a LOT more than just this guy’s programming chops. And having a storied career as a producer doesn’t necessarily translate to being a game director.

Edit: this isn’t anything new in this industry, though. It’s an industry that really suffers from trying to prop up old veterans as heroes and legends of the art form and throwing money at them based on one or two seminal projects, and not necessarily their entire track record, often ignoring some really bad output. If anyone else pitched this game, they would have been laughed at.

Re: Review: Pathway - Competent XCOM-Style Combat, But Is That Enough?

commentlife

Huge X-COM fan, really wanted to like this one. But for me, X-COM combat just isn't enough on its own. I enjoy X-COM combat SO much because I enjoy how the experience morphs and adapts based on how you spent your time/resources/research/etc. in between rounds. Too many developers make the mistake of going with X-COM style combat without also implementing a satisfying meta game around it.
