One of the biggest surprises from yesterday's Nintendo Direct wasn't even a game at all. During a special segment of the show, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto took to the stage to announce new details regarding the upcoming Super Mario movie, including our first look at the English-language cast.
Fan reaction to the casting has been mixed so far, although pleasing an entire fanbase as large as Mario's would have been impossible no matter who was picked, and it's the lead role which has turned the most heads so far.
Yes, Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World, Avengers: Endgame) has taken on the role of Mario, leaving Mario's usual voice actor Charles Martinet with a mysterious guest role that hasn't yet been revealed. Speaking to fans on Instagram, Pratt shares a memory of how he loved to play Super Mario Bros. in the arcades in his youth, saying "dreams come true".
As you can see, Pratt also hints that there will be a voice for Mario, but he's not able to share what that sounds like just yet. He says he and the team have been "working hard at it," so it'll be interesting to hear how that comes out at a later date.
It's tough to imagine anyone other than Charles Martinet portraying Mario at this point, but it's always healthy to keep an open mind. We'll get to see it for ourselves when the film hits theatres in December 2022.

$$$$$$ big dreams come true $$$$$$
Maybe give the job to an actor of Italian descent
I think Hollywood demands "star power" Charles Martinet just doesn't check that box for the mainstream audience. -_-
Tough to imagine Mario not voiced by Charles Martinet, but I have yet to be let down by Chris Pratt. So, I'm excited!
Plus the rest of the cast looks stellar!!!
@Shunk1 I'm Italian. It's the actor's job to become the role, not be born into it. Plus, Charles Martinet isn't Italian — no one cared.
Chris Pratt as Mario is disappointing. The rest of the cast is solid, but Mario is the lead so this is a shame.
@nocdaes Nobody knows yet what he will be like voicing Mario. Give him a chance at the least
> Chris Pratt is a member of a church (Hillsong church) that regularly lobbies against LGBT freedoms.
> Chris Pratt exposed himself multiple times to women on-set during Parks and Rec, and took NBC's warning letter as a badge of honor.
> Chris Pratt has a history of animal abuse/neglect. (But sure let's GiVe HiM a ChAnCe.)
And he will voice the most recognizable video game character of all time, in a movie for all-ages released during Christmastime.
What a time to be alive 🥴
@Shunk1 i mean....if you wanna get pedantic Mario is a Japanese depiction of an italian stereotype. Let's just ease up and give the movie a chance
“Dream come true”
Yeah right😂😂😂
When I watched the direct with my family we literally turned off the TV when we saw Chris prat as mario
I was hoping for Charles Martinet, but I think Pratt will do great. He should bring some fun energy to the role.
The more I think about it, the less upset I am though, considering that I grew up with Bob Hoskins, Lou Albano, and Walker Boone.
Chris Pratt is a tremendously likeable guy and a very funny actor. It will be interesting to see how this goes. Sure, I would love to have Charles Martinet do the voice, but let's be realistic, he can't play Mario forever, any more than Sean Connery could keep playing James Bond into his elder years. I'm happy Martinet is at least in the movie. Very wholesome way to pass the torch and give a legend the credit he is due.
I don't expect this movie to be an amazing work of cinematic artistry. But I expect it will be pretty solid. The Despicable Me movies are not bad at all (although I can pass on Minions) and Sing was surprisingly touching even though it was rather trite. Seems to me like Mario is in good hands.
Typical Hollywood stunt casting. Almost never hiring real voice actors, but names to add to the marquee.
In most instances, cartoon characters ought to sound like cartoon characters, not Daddy putting on a half-hearted impression, which is what most US theatrical animation sounds like, with little to no effort from the cast.
For me the most important thing here isn't that the Mario move comes out next December, or that the film has some generic Hollywood actors in the cast. The most important thing is that this essentially confirms a new Mario game for 2022 holidays!
@Shunk1 it's called 'acting' mate.
I don't see what the fuss is, seems like a decent cast. Except Seth Rogan. That guy's a punk.
Announcing this casting on Bi Visibility Day was quite the move.
Chris Pratt stopped being funny when he got jacked and let everyone know how awful he is.
Removed - flaming/arguing
He's a weird choice for the voice. But I love his comedic timing and he's obviously an awesome guy. I'm at least excited now to see how weird this movie might be. lol.
@Jermare How, how dare I get angry over a man with homophobic leanings being cast in a movie based on a franchise I've loved for decades, the sheer audacity I tell ya.
Removed - unconstructive
@Shunk1 for a character once named to parody a landlord of one? Irony can be a harsh mistress.
Native casting definitely has a lot of merits and is neat to see more of nowadays, but let us not pretend that it's the only functional option (or projects dealing with stuff like the Roman Empire could be in trouble😆). Vasily Livanov and Robert Downey Jr aren't English, but that never stopped either from delivering one heck of a Sherlock Holmes.
Not passing judgement until I hear their voices in their roles. The concept of a Chris Pratt Mario and Jack Black Bowser is funny though, so I guess I like it in that sense.
Wait so he really is playing Mario? That's kind of a weird choice, I'd have thought Nintendo would want to keep Mario's appearance and sound consistent across all media.
Still, it's not the first time I've had to get used to a new Mario voice, before Mario 64 the gruff deep voices of Capt. Lou Albano and Bob Hoskins were how I expected Mario to sound, so the sudden high pitched Charles Martinet performance took time to adjust to.
Removed - flaming/arguing
I'm kinda glad he apparently won't just do his normal voice. If he finds a good voice, and taps into that goofy, likeable energy he had in Parks and Rec and The Lego Movie, I think it can work.
@CharlieGirl SELECTIVE. OUTRAGE. And on top of that twisting facts to fit a narrative.

@Silly_G I understand the sentiment about wanting "actual voice actors", but I think it's an unrealistic take. Hollywood is a money machine, and animated movies aren't little independent productions anymore but some of the highest-earning franchises in existence. They're going to want big names.
Actors like Pratt ARE actual voice actors, anyway. Most of the top tier actors in Hollywood have extensive voice training. They learn to do accents and unique speech patterns and modulate their voices as part of their training. It's not like they don't have the same skills that "real voice actors" have.
And without this kind of "stunt casting" we would never have heard Mark Hamill's legendary take on the Joker or heard Alan Tudyk as King Candy. Heck, the entire cast of Wreck-It Ralph did an outstanding job, and not one of them was what you're calling an "actual voice actor".
Peoples, let's jog some memory about Mario's voice evolution from year 1992 - 2021.
I predict one huge fustercluck.
Removed - unconstructive
@nhSnork for a character that currently has a giant nose and accent meant to represent an italian
@CharlieGirl Oh no, how dare someone be Cristian. How awful.
Also, I've never heard cases of the other two things you listed.
Chris Pratt doesn't deserve all the hate, he's a legitimately funny actor.
@HotGoomba
A better question is, how dare an actor knowingly tithe money to a prejudiced church?
@Themagusx1 hmm I'll admit I haven't played much of both but I'll go with Super Mario World.
@HotGoomba I never heard any of this either. Look I a, an atheist but I don’t go around shooting people down for being Christian or any religion, but people like her do that all the time on this site.
@CharlieGirl I would like LINKS to these claims. I'm asking YOU, not Google because the later can claim that he DIDN'T do the things listed. Cite your sources they say.
@HotGoomba At least you're aware of your comments.
@Arkay that’s a good one, I am a Mario 3 guy myself.
@CharlieGirl you know, you can't just assume that someone's a terrible person just because they are attending a allegedly homophobic church.
@Steel76 Plus he said that the voices do hurt on his aging voice box after a while.
@HotGoomba Chris Pratt was supposed to be wearing nude pants to simulate nudity as they’d blur it out in post-production. He took them off completely and flashed Amy Poehler without her consent to get an ‘authentic’ reaction. I love that show but there’s a line and he was a good few steps past it.
Boy it must be exhausting personally vetting everybody who does anything related to what you're interested in to see if there's any potential reason, no matter how tenuous, to decry their involvement.
If someone has committed a crime, let them serve the time and move on. If you're going to hold any slight perceived misdemeanor against them for the rest of your days you must be living a bitter life.
Ignore button saves the rest of us 🙂
I'm very intrigued to see/hear where this cast list takes the movie. LEGO Movie is great, and while I often find Jack Black a little too 'Jack Black', I do really like School of Rock and Kung Fu Panda.
Nah, Chris Pratt is kinda a trash person. You can Google this stuff in thirty seconds; nobody else's responsibility but your own to be informed. To pretend otherwise is just lazy. You don't have to like it, but he said what he said, he's done what he's done and that's on him. Not the people asking for some decency.
@NatiaAdamo she won’t provide them, because you know allegations with no evidence can get one cancelled which is awful.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Charles Martinet is mocking us and that's fine but if they're getting a new person to represent this character in this day and age it would be nice to be represented by someone who represents us. That being said I'm sure this guy can do an ok job.
@Chocobo_Shepherd
Thank you! I hate this new generation talking about “appropriation”.
It’s almost like actors are supposed to act and pretend to be other people. What a concept.
Will be honest, I wanted Martinet to do it but I was concern since some times, when he says something other than it's a me, Mario or any other lines that require more than 2 o 3 words, kinda sound different.
Now, I like Chris Pratt, he's funny and I like jack black too, don't know how it's going to turn out but I won't pass judgement as of yet, I mean, the movie it's more than a year away ffs, i will give those guys a chance
@CharlieGirl if he personally said something offensive I would understand but simply being mad because you don’t like the pastor at the church he attends is ridiculous

@Losermagnet so let's get a stereotypical italian
@Thelastjedi2007 what a fragile state of mind that an actor for a kids movie offends you that much. It’s a movie. Let’s get over it.
@nessisonett ah didn't know, thanks for letting me know.
@gcunit "Boy it must be exhausting personally vetting everybody who does anything related to what you're interested in."
Not really!
Whatever happens, Chris is an actor hired to do a job. The powers that be chose him. If the call winds up being a poor one, it's not really his fault. Martinet rules, but I can't actually imagine spending an entire film listening to his Mario. Same with the game voice for Peach. They work amazingly well in short scenes and dialogue fragments, but if I'm honest with myself as a fan, they'd be a turn-off for the casual moviegoer
Peoples, let's chill. 😌
Try to guess what will be the Mario's voice by Chris Pratt.
He might able to make funny cartoonish voice when he got role as Mario, same like Tom Kenny as Spongebob.
@CharlieGirl It would be more informing if you gave LINKS to your claims. I'm not willing to search for a needle in a haystack just so you can be all smug of being right.
Chris Pratt is terrible and literally is only in this movie because he’s a famous Chris and has been in other mainstream stuff.
Removed - inappropriate
I've enjoyed Chris Pratt in everything he's been in, so I'm excited to see/hear how he does. He's been great as a voice actor in a couple things I've enjoyed (Lego Movie, Onward), so I'm willing to bet he'll make a great Mario.
Comment sections be salty.
@NatiaAdamo google ain’t hard. You type those things in and presto.

@Kirby_Girl Google ain't proof either.
@Savino @Kirby_Girl Well in that case, I shall claim that the Earth is actually frog shaped. Google THAT for me.
@Arkay No better than those right-wingers.
@gcunit Yes the engine itself is not proof that’s why reports by those reporting on such matter is more valueable.
@Arkay oh well if she does, that proves my point. Quite frankly I don’t feel she belongs in this site and is just a detriment to it. A detriment she did to this very thread but it’s not my site and it’s my call, so yeah,
@Shunk1 sure....i.....guess? I'm not really sure how to react to that. My point is that Mario isn't actually Italian, and isn't a good representative character.
It's entirely possible Mario won't be Italian in the movie. I suppose people would be even more upset, if that turns out to be the case.
@NatiaAdamo Both extremes are bad that’s where I stand. Extreme left and Extreme right.
@Kirby_Girl So why not show us said reports? NintendoLife allows off-site links.
@NatiaAdamo being neutral myself I agree, both sides tend to do that.
@Kirby_Girl All news articles linked from Google = Truth?
@NatiaAdamo googled it and got oblate sphere and not frog but okay
@Savino That's a Google link. Also, you clearly missed the part that I asked for an article that claims it's frog shaped.
@Kirby_Girl But Google claims that it's FROG shaped! It can't lie to me!
@gcunit remember the internet never lies
@CharlieGirl you support a community that constantly discriminate their own members by how they look o what they like sexually. Being gay I never have felt represented by them on the contrary have felt rejected and insecure. Its a toxic community.
@valharian Well said
I'm done here now. The last thing I will say is "Thanks mods!" And I mean that in a actual legit way.
@NatiaAdamo google doesn’t claim that. @gcunit no but if you see multiple reports with folks who spoke to those ppl reporting on the same thing from sites with editors and actual reporters, then I think you have a pattern.
Im just saying ppl can do the work. Also besides all that garbage Chris is just a terrible pick the role and literally has it because he starred in other recent media.
I wasn't expecting this movie to have that high of a budget, the cast is insane.
Nice to see Charles Martinet doing cameos. I am not surprised in the slightest he is not the voice of Mario though. This is a movie, so there is going to be dialogue, not just bing bang wahoos. Plus he is 66 years old, can retire at any point, not very future proof.
@Themagusx1 I have been reading all these comments with interest. I don’t really want to go into the politics (or have others views shoved down my throat) but I’m very interested in your SMB3 v Super Mario World question! I am a SMB3 man myself, even though I love World and most people prefer that. Why did you pick 3 over World?
Stay classy Nlife. You as always prove me right.

@valharian I applaud you for being yourself.
@Picola-Wicola Ahh yes that is a subject I will gladly discuss. Three I think has a more you are on a journey feel. I mean in thst you travel from the grassland essentially into the desert than across the sea to a land of giants, and then into the skies and across the ice and pipes into hell itself. And the power ups are far more varied and experimental even to this day in Mario 3 compared to World,
@Arkay I think Charlie girl is gone, I don’t see anything from her anymore and I did not ignore her,
Removed - flaming/arguing
I like Chris Pratt and I hope this works out
@Themagusx1 nah that person is still there sadly.
Gotta be better than Bob Hoskins!
@Chocobo_Shepherd Freakin thank you. Actually, no one should care because it's not a big deal. When I was a kid when didn't whine when James Avery voiced Shredder in the Ninja Turtles cartoon because he had a great voice for the role and it does not matter what his heritage or color is. People cry unity while trying to separate everyone on every level over every little thing that makes us different without realizing they're adding to the problem. Too proud to admit it.
@Themagusx1 he blocked you
@Themagusx1 wow, that’s exactly how I feel! The magic of playing that game has not been repeated for me, until mario galaxy maybe. There was one one level I could never do back then, the mid-level castle on world 8, I always had to use a cloud to skip past it (this was way before the days of online walkthroughs). The secret whistles, frog suits, tanooki suits and hammer suits, what a game on such primitive tech
@Losermagnet let me reiterate then. That guy as Mario is a fine choice, an Italian acrot would have been nice to see though in my opinion
@Arkay you'd live in an echo chamber without some differing thoughts, so there's no sadly about it.
Besides, it's a fact... Chris Pratt did expose himself to a colleague in his place of work. And he did get reprimanded for it. Rightly.
Does that mean he shouldn't voice Mario? I can see why some would say yes and others not care.
As far as I am concerned... if someone exposed themselves to me whilst I was at work, I would not expect to see them working with me ever again.
@Picola-Wicola the kids castle is that the one where you are in darkness if I remember correctly? And I agree, I like world don’t get wrong it’s a fantastic game, but I get it’s a fun adventure as opposed to Mario 3, grand epic scope.
@valharian no real loss.
@nocdaes I thought this topic was done but hey and Dave’s is the one whose likes the echo chambers so there you go.
I'm guessing Nintendo's plot is a human inhabiting Mario's body, like in Detective Pikachu, or the perhaps like recent Jumanji movies, and those movies did well. I'll reserve judgement for after we see the movie.
@Shunk1 i feel that. I think the choice of actors says a lot about the direction the movie will take. These people arent voice actors - they're Hollywood actors. They're choosing marketability and publicity.
Having said that, Jack Black as Bowser feels right.
@Themagusx1 Yea, I can see how it might look like the topic is done when the person with a differing view stops posting.
But, would you believe it? Their differing view wasn't an isolated view!
Brilliant case lineup, can’t wait to see the first trailer.
Also, love NLife’s stance on “either you’re right or you’re wrong, and if you’re wrong you’re gone.”
@CharlieGirl I’m sure you have a flawless life history with which to pass judgement on all of us who fail in your eyes.
To be honest, Jack Black as Bowser is the only thing keeping me remotely curious about this likely disaster of a movie.
Charles is Mario's voice and will always be.
That being said, I still remember that 3DS video where he did the whole thing in character... It was not great. No-fault on his part, some decided they wanted the "full Mario" and that was the outcome.
So I 100% get casting someone else, with Pratt if this was pre-Lego movie I would be concerned (speaking exclusively about his ability) but I suspect it's doable. Honestly, Miyamoto's involvement gives me a little pause ATM.
No Charles Martinet? There was a slim chance I would be watching this movie, and now there is no chance!
@BloodNinja I mean technically he's there, just not as Mario. TBH, I'm mostly holding judgement until the first trailer. And unlike Sonic, Mario has to get it right on the first one.
@NatiaAdamo If it’s not like the 1990’s(?) Mario it won’t be worth it hahaha
Since Martinet is the voice of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and the babies in the games, my guess is he will voice Wario, who will have a minor role in the story.
@Losermagnet they should have represented the lizard community with the voice of Bowser... I'm kidding this time. Yes, Jack Black seems like a great choice!
@nocdaes oh believe me, I agree with you. That said this place is already an echo chamber.
Definitely surprised by these voice actors, but I get it. This is Nintendo's first big foray into a proposed series of cartoon movies. Using big name actors is a good way to get those tickets sold.
@BloodNinja Ok, fair. I would KILL to see a drunk Chris try to do his lines.
Side note, while I do disagree with you at times, I'm so glad you're so level headed.
OROCHI/VENOCT APPROVED!
@BloodNinja I can't speak for anyone but myself, but for me it's really not about perfection versus imperfection. Everyone makes mistakes - it's one of those human things that links us all.
It's the type of mistake that I take issue with, and it's firmly on my list of things that I just don't accept.
Everyone's list is different, of course, and that's fine. Society does require a general consensus though... and I'd say the general consensus in every Society on the planet would be "do not expose yourself to me in the place of work (or anywhere else for that matter!) ever".
yall hated ryan reynolds when he was announced as pikachu... then it turned out he was pretty damn good at it
Good grief, people. It's not the end of the world when someone says UNDENIABLY TRUE AND ON-RECORD things about a famous actor you love for his roles in popular media.
Guess what, not everybody who plays a beloved character on TV is a good person. Some of them, in fact, are absolutely terrible and deserve to be called out. Charlie Girl isn't going to end Chris Pratt's career, he doesn't actually need you to defend him. Dude has more money than the last four generations of my family combined, and he's not going to stop getting roles because of Nintendolifegate. Chillax already.
Personally I was unaware of the things he's done and the church he's involved with. And I'm still not 100% convinced he's a terrible person. Half the people I work with are members of churches that think I am a sinner and an aberration, and I'm fairly sure most of them still qualify as good people. But I can definitely understand a person wanting everyone to be aware of his history, in the same way I want people to be aware of the horrible things Mel Gibson and Michael Richards have said.
It's easy for non-Christians to know the perfect response to every piece of internet outrage.
Christians forgive, and sometimes have to work with Christians they don't agree with or attend churches with people they don't agree with. We don't abandon the people we disagree with for their beliefs. Otherwise no one ever improves. And in life, you don't get to pick and choose your community unless you want to sentence yourself to life in a bubble.
Chris has been fairly careful to remain apolitical as is his right. But people from all different points of view seem to like him.
@nocdaes I agree, he crossed a line, but he's also an actor, playing a nude scene (and not working in a costco) and has presumably played lots of scenes totally nude before. Again, not acceptable, apologise take the punishment and move on, but it needs a little context. Read about how people like Shia LaBoeuf get into the role if you want to see some very difficult to forgive toxicity.
Except fondling an actress is a pretty big crime? I don't want to watch sexual abusers, either.
Back on the Chris Pratt tack, this seems fairly uncontroversial (Via: https://www.insider.com/chris-pratt-defends-zoe-church-ellen-page-anti-lgbtq-2019-2):
"Despite what the Bible says about divorce my church community was there for me every step of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk," Pratt said in the Instagram story. "They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender."
Pratt said his faith was "important" but that it did not "define" him.
"My values define who I am. We need less hate in the world, not more," he said. "I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man."
@TryToBeHopeful Yes, absolutely agree on the context of the work - it's a good point no-one has made yet!
Everyone will set their line accordingly. Me personally, its a black and white issue. You either expose yourself to a colleague or you don't.
@JasmineDragon And on the Michael Richards topic, people should know what he said, but it seemed like he had a total breakdown. He's never going to be able to live without people knowing about it, he crossed a line he shouldn't have crossed, but if there's a criminal penalty for what he did he's gone through it. Louis CK's still performing, and he did HORRIBLE things.
I do not like this guy. He'll probably be a decent voice actor in of itself. I hate it when jerks become beloved voice actors. Like James Woods as Disney's Hades. Absolutely perfect for the role, but he's a despicable human being.
@nocdaes I agree, and for instance the stuff about John Barrowman getting his bits out on the set of Doctor Who (or maybe it was Torchwood) is totally unacceptable, despite his apparent feeling that because he was gay, women wouldn't have a problem with it. I don't think Chris Pratt's done anything near cancel-worthy, but I'm not his friend, agent or lawyer, so it's not really my problem. On a personal level I do object to Christians getting lumped in with anything wrong that any of the other 2.5 billion have done (or even people in the local congregation).
@arenred It's a fair point, but sorry I do have to disagree. It's not about good Vs bad - I think deep down we all know there's a little bad in everyone right?!
For me it's all about that list. The list of bad things that means you're off to jail, or you're out of a job, or you're not famous anymore.
That list changes. Society demands it changes. Look back through time and the list was missing some pretty astonishing things... look forward and there will be many new additions.
It's not simply fascism - although I absolutely take your point!! - I'd say it's Progress. (But as with most things, there's a scale isn't there!!)
The response to this has been...interesting. I've learned that the vast majority of people don't understand how film making and adapting ideas for the screen works. I've also learned people will find a way to politicize anything.
Even if you personally dont like some of the cast, Chris is awesome, they are all great at thier jobs (which is ACTING...meaning pretending to be something they're not) and this movie will be amazing! Miyamoto wouldn't let it be total trash.
He was amazing in The Lego Movie, and as much as I hoped Charles would be Mario, still, I know Pratt will do the role justice. He's a great actor.
Just got done reading some kind of Christ Pratt exposed article that everyone wants us to look up. It seemed pretty benign to me. There was this one part in the article though -
"Pratt, sadly, is also very into hunting"
Gasp! 😲
@TrickWallaceYoutube I knowrite? I also do not really like hunting, but I'm sure I've got friends who do.
Now if he was into fox-hunting....
Is a bit weird its not Charles, but he is awesome, I hope this movie will be the first movie from this company i like, even if it turns out to be a "so bad its funny" way.
I think we all agree, Nintendo could have given us the N64/mega drive games for free with the money they would have saved by getting Charles Martinet to play all the roles.
@nessisonett What does one have to do with the other? Not being rhetorical... I don’t see the connection.
@Metalinkster That was only really because people wanted Danny Devito, but he really wouldn't have worked in the context of the story. Plus the voice of Detective Pikachu wasn't so well established as Mario's. And I don't believe Ryan Renalds has as much controversy around him as Chris Pratt, unless i am just unaware.
It's a complicated thing though. Everyone does or says questionable things at some point, and yes we should all be held accountable for them. But those holding others accountable also need to take into account both why they did the thing in the first place, and perhaps more importantly, what they did after it was pointed out to them. As far as I know Pratt is rather unapologetic and proud of some of those actions, which is why many here don't like him.
@Tobiaku Umm... Are you forgetting, The Secret Life of Pets...?
@TryToBeHopeful Haha absolutely agree with this.
Still wouldn't be enough cash to get Goldeneye though...
My guess is Charles Martinet was involved at Nintendo's request, to supervise the voice acting for his characters. That's when the decision to give him a cameo came about.
If he tutored Pratt and Day, we're in for a win-win. Especially Charlie Day, who is just a perfect fit for Luigi.
@TryToBeHopeful I personally did not like it. The company is probably doing something right as other people like them, but so far they have not done it for me
@CharlieGirl
Your argument is on point, but as the climate created by cancel culture escalates I think we should start separating personal problems and artistic value every now and then.
Pick the late Italian comedian Paolo Villaggio. The cruel pranks he pulled off while not shooting were... less than candid, to put it bluntly. White Collar Blues still remains one of the greatest strokes of darkly comedic genius my country had to offer.
@nocdaes If it was really that bad, he would not be working for Nintendo.
@NatiaAdamo LOL thanks for that
@TryToBeHopeful Exactly, I'm not into it either. I have cousins though that have freezers full of deer meat that they eat all year. If anyone eats any meat at all they have to come to terms with the honest procurement of it, whether from hunting or a farm.
@TryToBeHopeful Perfect comment
@Meteoroid Thanks for your balanced view of things. The videogame community really miss people that think like you ...
@Tobiaku You're right, they don't have a great back catalogue.
@Meteoroid Pretty sure everyone to the right of Kamala Harris has been faced with the artist-art separation dilemma at some point or another (unless you only play Nintendo games or something). Those that have had the fortune not to run into an artist they disagree with on something important until September 2021 need to consider other perspectives.
I think mixed implies that there's anybody who is excited about this. Although I guess "Thinks it's really bad" and "I guess we'll see..." is still a mix
@TioRogerio I assume you are agreeing with my opinions on 'The Secret Life of Pets' (it is decent).
@arenred It really isn't that hard to draw lines on what type of entertainment you choose to consume based on who's creating it. I mean, it sucks to not be able to look at certain pieces of media the same way and sticking to your values, and not consuming them. But it isn't soul-crushing or stressful to one's life in the slightest. It's not like there isn't other media or actors out there to enjoy. And if you find that media and those actors don't align with your personal values
To make it more personal. The Cosby Show is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. But I will not watch another episode again (and have not in about 6 or 7 years). I just can't. But life goes on seeing as there are a million other sitcoms out there left to enjoy.
I also think the distinction needs to be made on public figures who make a mistake and show some contrition and growth from that mistake versus those who continuously revel in that kind of behavior. I'm absolutely willing to give a second chance to someone who makes a mistake (though there are some obvious exceptions) versus someone who revels in said behavior, shows no growth or remorse for what they did and will even double down on why they were justified in doing so.
I'm aware of Chris Pratt's behavior. I love the MCU, I love the GoG movies. I love Parks and Rec. Mario is my absolute favorite video game character of all time. I was absolutely looking forward to this movie. When it comes to Pratt staring in anything I enjoy, I do have to do some serious thinking about how to approach these pieces of media going forward
Lol dreams do come true! Yeah for millionaires most certainly.
It will certainly be strange seeing a different voice come out of Mario's mouth. No matter what I will still see this movie as I am a big mario fan.
@BloodNinja You're right that of course Mario as an IP would always want to be protected, so they've made an informed decision and deemed it OK. However, the moral compass of the powers that be at Nintendo... I wouldn't expect them to take issue with it. But, really, let's not go into that!! (And yes I do obviously love Nintendo, but that doesn't mean I align with anyone on their board!).
It's a meee... BURT MACKLIN FBI
@UmbreonsPapa But when you compare him to Bill Cosby, what did he do that's objectionable?
Rehome a dog? Go fully nude in a nude scene that we don't know the wider context of? Attend a church that's connected to Hillsong, some members of who are not very LGBT friendly (or are going through their own confusing journeys)? I listen to Hillsong music (among others) because it affirms my faith, and as demographics change I'm sure lots of young Hillsong congregants are going to be a lot more LGBT-affirming. I know plenty of evangelicals who are. We can't be all or nothing.
@TryToBeHopeful I tend to agree with you about Richards. He said some terrible racist things, and I'm personally not ready to forget them, but he has definitely been punished for them and I hope he's grown from the experience. People do grow and learn, and sometimes you need to have some forgiveness in your heart and let them get there in their own time.
In any case, even though I am 150% not Christian, there is one bit from the New Testament that I will always follow: "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". I don't care if Actual Jesus said this or if it's completely apocryphal, it is wisdom. Human beings are not perfect. We're animals with a highly developed lexicon. We say and do trashy things sometimes. Not every transgression needs to end with a life sentence.
@Meteoroid There are some crimes like murder, that may have longer sentences, but can be less reprehensible than any sexual crimes, or crimes against women or children. I could watch an actor who had committed man-slaughter, but I would not watch someone who committed a sexual assault or a crime against a child. But the argument about separating the art from the artist (and I'm not talking to you, specifically) is separate to the argument about whether Chris Pratt has really done anything wrong to earn the ire of people.
how good for him, still a shame nintendos getting sucked into illuminations tactics of of banking on a celebrity voice cast to sell a movie. doesnt give me hope that the movie will be any better
Like Chris Pratt alot, so I'm intrigued to see how he does.
@CharlieGirl 100%. Dang my blocklist grew from this.
People need to calm down. I think it's hilarious. We can't have Mario just saying Bing Bing wahoo for 2 hours. His normal voice would be grating. Let's just wait for the trailer and see.
Jack Black is gonna be Bowser???? Awesome!
@Shunk1
Maybe not, because he's already an Italian stereotype. So if we distance him from the Italian identity he won't get cancelled by cancel culture
@TryToBeHopeful I wasn't necessarily comparing him to Bill Cosby. I was just sharing (just one, cause there are many others) my experience coming up against the artist versus their work debate. And while it seems that it shouldn't even be a discussion considering the horrific nature of his crimes, it is one that does exist when it comes to Cosby and The Cosby Show and a somewhat complex one that is also steeped in layers of other issues
@Wavey84 "lol it always cracks me up when these self righteous, nose up in the air, do no wrong, super judgemental snow flakes get extremely touchy and sensitive about"..another person's opinion.
@arenred I mean, Bill Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by sixty women and has himself admitted, on tape, to using drugs to get women into sexual situations. He also had a habit of being very judgemental and preachy to those in the black community about what he perceived was the wrong behavior, when he was clearly in no position to be talking down to anyone.
So no, I haven't met the guy. No, I haven't interacted with him in person. But I think with the body of evidence on what kind of person he is and has shown himself to be and has directly said himself to be, I think that's a pretty good list of things to make an accurate judgment call on whether or not I want to consume his material.
Now, if sexual assault, murder, or whatever the case may be isn't a deal-breaker for you, then that's you a deal. I wasn't trying or suggesting that you change your line in the sand for or even have one. What I was saying is that it really isn't all that hard to move on from an artist or their work when there are plenty of other similar types of work out there from people who aren't scumbags. And when they prove you otherwise, then you just simply move on to the next.
It’s so, so interesting to see fellow Nintendo fans discussing such a wide range of issues. Personally speaking, I have struggled with what’s right and wrong on equality. I am a white man, who was brought up in a white world, with a mother who taught me never to judge anyone by the colour of their skin. Then I fell in love with an Indian woman, whose family didn’t want her to be with a white boy. We had a son together, who has had to grow up being mixed race. And let me tell you all this, videogames brought us together. I had a daughter from a previous relationship, who was was white, and initially she wasn’t accepted into their family. But I won my mother-in—law over, and that was hard because she was so against inter-racial marriage. But I embraced it, and walked proud to have an Indian woman by my side, even though I am English through and through. And even though it didn’t work out with me and my son’s mum, it is the greatest love I have ever known. I will bring this back to Nintendo now, because their videogames have saved me. I have played them for as long as I can remember, and I have passed that onto my children, a white girl and an Indian boy, who learned to beat me at mario kart, who watched me save Zelda, and who rejoiced at Christmas when they got their own DS, then 3DS. better leave this and make a forum topic, even if no-one reads it, it is cathartic and game related...
Have a tough time envisioning this, but happy to hear he will be likely altering his voice for the role. Most actors just speak in their own voice but it makes sense since they are not voice actors.
Let's hope the movie is set in the Mushroom Kingdom and not our world like so many other adaptions. If it's Mario and friends set in NYC or LA I will be disappointed.
At least they didn't choose Tom Holland for the role...but still disappointing.
Not really a fan of Pratt, but regardless seems like an odd casting choice. If only Bob Hoskins were still with us. As awful as the 90s Mario movie was, he was perfectly cast for the role.
I'll watch the movie with latin spanish dub, so I could not care less about this cast. I just hope the dubbing company don't choose holasoygerman or luisito comunica or any influencer for any role.
So... Much... Salt in this comment thread.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Aside from that douchebag Seth Rogan? I agree. I think Jack Black will be great as Bowser!
But there is no way in Hell Seth Rogan was a good pick for Donkey Kong. That burns me every time I think about it.
@nocdaes and I'd say the general consensus in every Society on the planet would be "do not expose yourself to me in the place of work (or anywhere else for that matter!) ever".
And you would be 100% wrong. Body positivity and nudism are real things. Over the course of my life, I've lived in several different societies where no one would think twice about briefly seeing a coworker's naked body, and there are probably several hundred people who have seen me naked in the context of work. Try living in the military and NOT letting other people see your body, it's almost impossible.
how can someone not like this cast? wtf jack black as bowser
This website is hilarious. Ya'll super sensitive about the smallest things then accuse people of being too sensitive for complaining about real world problems. You lose your minds that there's a game about a cute pink ball that eats everything but not a game about seadoo racing, but an actor supports an organization that says LGBT people shouldn't exist and all of a sudden everyone's too sensitive. lol
@CharlieGirl I don't participate in cancel culture... No one is perfect.
Removed - harassment
@Hellburner918 By that logic then, why is famously politcal right-winger Chris Pratt allowed in a video game movie?
@JasmineDragon it's not being nude that's the problem!
@CharlieGirl lmao imagine caring about people's morals in this day and age.
"Political right-wingers" sounds like an insult but it's literally just politics.
Keep politics out of entertainment
Removed - discussing moderation
Well this is a mess like i expected lol.
I have 0 opinion on Pratt, there's so much damn contradicting info and big words being used that my little pea brain can't handle
Also 100% convinced this movie will be dogshit, can't wait to see it tbh
@CharlieGirl wtf? what the heck has someone's thinking with their talent? are now videogames for people from certain sectors? You condemned yourself with that last comment dude. You are so biased by politics.
@Shunk1 Yeah, I'm tired of Hollywood casting Americans as aliens in their movies too. Maybe, I don't know, hire aliens to do the job?
@Picola-Wicola Maybe because it wasn't about the topic? I believe there's a forum for such matters IIRC.
Some of the comments here have mentioned his personal beliefs and strange workplace behavior but none of that compares to the fact that the guy is a bad actor. Like, he actually sucks. He's on the level of Bradley Cooper or John Krazinski bad. And for me that's bad.
I can't really think of a good actor to voice Mario. Maybe someone older. Like an actual voice actor.
@nocdaes I do get that and I'm not trying to say that Chris Pratt flashing Amy Poehler is okay. Consent matters, as does context. Just saying that what I quoted is not a universal truth. There are, still, plenty of societies where people would think nothing of this particular stunt, or at most would say Pratt was being a lad.
My own individual response would be to shake my head at the village idiot who thought it was a good idea to expose himself to a female coworker, but I wouldn't go any farther than that UNLESS there is more to the story that I don't know about.
@Picola-Wicola please email us the details of that, this isn't the place to discuss it.
@arenred I wouldn't necessarily call it a moral obligation. It's just knowing what I personally value and that I won't support someone who serially sexually assaulted other people.
I also made it clear that what you value and choose to consume is on you and if you're fine with it, all the power to you. So no, I don't waste my time and energy trying to force anyone to change or ostracize anyone. But what I will say is that my wife and I make it abundantly clear to the people in our lives what we will or won't tolerate and what we think is important. And no, for those I hold dear who still are in our lives, we don't all agree on every little thing.
But by virtue of wanting to surround ourselves with people who do share some of those same basic core values and ideals, it has resulted in folks (family and friends) no longer being in our lives. That's okay. It's just how life works. You grow, you change, and sometimes, others don't make it along with you for the ride and you meet others who do.
Do you know how long it took me to scroll down here? lol
Anyways, I just want a GOOD Mario movie.
I mean, I'll see it either way because it's Mario, but I want to walk out with a smile on my face.
I can see why they didn't want Charles voicing Mario for over an hour, but I'm really glad he's still involved! Maybe Wario and Waluigi will appear too. I mean, even DK is getting a voice. Which will be weird.
Oh and Charles isn't "passing on the torch" lol. It just means Mario will have a different voice THIS movie. And maybe any sequels. I'm sure Charles will still stick around as Mario's voice in other media. I just hope the Movie voice is good.
Maybe it'll be like watching that old Super Mario cartoon with the Brooklyn accents. Pfft.
@UmbreonsPapa "it really isn't all that hard to move on from an artist or their work when there are plenty of other similar types of work out there from people who aren't scumbags"
I agree.
And I'd go further and say that there are hundreds of thousands of amazing, talented people that do not get their chance in the limelight, be it movies, stage, music, writing. Talent is actually very easily replaced.
@CharlieGirl Stop being a Bigot!
@CharlieGirl Exactly...and not to mention a very rude and disrespectful person. He belittles people thinking he is high and mighty. What's funny Is I cannot STAND him, and any movie I watch that he is in I am reminded of how bad of an actor he truly is...
I am not excited he is voicing mario. I am very disappointed. It's as if I am surrounded by idiots. And then I am reminded everyday that I am
My only issue with any of this is that it feels like they went for star power (no pun intended) and not what the characters should sound like. Everyone can clutch pearls, or go to bat for Chris Pratt. Personally, I love him. I am just not sure his voice is going to work unless he pulls a Bradley Cooper (his Rocket was awesome, and didn't sound like him at all).
@Chocobo_Shepherd LMAO, Thats what I was thinking, The dude is.....well, ya i'm not gonna tell him LOL.
Are we really surprised that Martinet isn't Mario here. Look at how Sega handled their casting. Not hiring Roger Craig Smith as Sonic or Mike Pollock as Eggman. Which I actually like who they went with instead. At least Martinet is there. I guess they go with different movie oriented actors rather than their game actors because A) a business decision to get well known actors will draw in the movie crowd and B) they feel movie actors would somehow ease us in better than their game actors would.
Miyamoto really does seem to be divorcing this Mario movie from the mario game. I'm actually more interested in the movie now than I was before the cast listings.
@HotGoomba A lot of christains do that for whatever reason, They think just bc it doesn't line up with there views they should treat LGBTQ like crap.
Tho maybe I need to look into the drama of pratt, Bc I'm sure as hell not getting it from yall. BWT, Dude you think you could tell me what peoples issue is with him?
This comment section... really.. guys please be respectful to eachother.
Wow, I came into the comment section expecting everyone to have a good laugh over the cast, but everyone decided to just argue...yet again...
@Themagusx1 Christain hate is really annoying to be, bc we live in a world were people want other people to just go along with every damn thing they do, "i'm none bi deal with it" ok? "I'm gay deal with it" ok?? But nope when it comes to are other believes then its shot down, like WTF? Now I don't think churches should ever be anti LGBTQ, As one, I don't agree with how thats handled, Now anyone if this world would know, not everyone is the same, And wile I don't agree with it, Its just quite funny to me that time and time again were just Pushed into this evil light, its annoying.
@Vortexeo me to, I have no idea what pratt did LOL.
There acting like this dude is going to be voicing mario forever. yall gonna have to get used to a new mario one day!
@Savino come on everyone know the earth is flat open your eyes man it’s all a scheme from big government to something something.
@CharlieGirl Hey you know there's this thing called, a full story, and then there's this thing called research, So I could right now look into Down jr. And I will see that he was a bad person, Or I could you know, get other sides and opinions and then form my own, Google is only going to give me one part of the whole story.
Aubrey Plaza flashed the producers of Parks and Rec (without their consent) before she even got the job. And she's bragged about it on several late night talk shows. No one seems to care.
My, there are a lot of folks here who cannot seem to do the 'your fav is problematic' conversation with any grace.
Figure out who you want to be as a person, what your priorities are, draw your own lines, be aware, be informed (your adult responsibility, your adult agency) — but own that you've got those priorities. No need to shout down folks who have decided equal human dignity or empathy is on that list for them. It's not on yours, okay, you've made that clear. If you've decided to support someone like Pratt, it's a intellectually dishonest to present it as a neutral decision or that deflecting nonsensical line about separating art from the artist; there's no neutral value in that choice. It's a decision reflecting your own priorities, what you decide to add, what you decide to exclude. Most of life is not a series of binary questions, and yet you still have decisions to make. So make them, and own them without trying to dress it up as something else.
@TeddyBearSolid Actually, I agree on that. I do not like Seth Rogan, he was my least favorite pick. Ah well.

@Chocobo_Shepherd I'm glad it's not just me!

Willing to give Chris Pratt the benefit of the doubt. I don't see him as mario, I can't see him doing the voice, but if he says he is working hard at it. I can put 3 Decades of various Mario Actors behind me. Including the defacto mario I hear inside my head that was put there by Nintendo as far back as Mario 64. Then I'll give this actor who isn't a total tool in hollywood a chance.
The rest of them.... I got a bone to pick.
Removed - inappropriate; user is banned
@ramu-chan Um, Chris Pratt is not right wing (in fact he refuses to align to any specific political party), and he never said he was pro Trump. There was a rumor that he said he was, but it was a rumor that proved to be 100% false. All that was said is that he turned down an invitation to an online Biden fundraiser with his fellow Avengers cast members, and that led to a snowball twitter rumor that claimed he was a Trump supporter. He actually didn't publicly endorse anyone in 2020. It is known that Chris Pratt supported and donated to Obama's campaigns, which makes it highly doubtful that he is a Trump supporter.
@Snatcher "Now I don't think churches should ever be anti LGBTQ"
I don't think you know how religion works. I mean I'm an Athiest and I can tell you that sentence is completely nonsensical.
So by the logic of many above…you also should never see a Tom Cruise movie because you are “indirectly supporting the church of Scientology”.
Give it a break people. Grab some popcorn and watch the movie. Quit fabricating outrage about everything in the world.
I think the casting is awesome. I get the “weirdness” of Pratt as Mario, but I also get it as a business decision. It looks like they are really trying to draw in the mainstream with these casting choices. I think it will be pretty successful if you ask me.
I love that people just hate this guy cause he is religious....
We've reached such a pathetic place in american society that is what upsets others...
@Shunk1 Why? What if he does a fantastic Italian Accent? Why does he need an Accent at all?
According to the internet Mario is an Italian Plumber from Brooklyn. Why can't he have a Brooklyn Accent?
I'm Italian from the US. I don't have an Italian Accent.
I think you're nonsensical in your reasoning.
@NotSoCryptic
Really? You think the rest of the casting is bad? I think Keegan as Toad and Jack Black as Bowser are going to be awesome!!! And it’s just comically funny that Fred Armisen is Kranky Kong!! The only oddball choice for me is Rogen as DK…I’m not seeing that match very well. But…I’ll wait and see until the movie comes out.
As other have said…it worked out well enough with Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu.
@Rika_Yoshitake I think he's great and I'm an Athiest. Respect for being based enough to live his life and live "his truth" as the nitwit Privileged First World Idiots like to say.
I'm excited to see what he comes up with. I just hope he can find a nice balance of what has come before. If you get down to it, I don't think most people could sit in a room with Mario and have a conversation with the video game version of the character without wanting to claw their ears off. So I'm sure what ever he comes up with will be fine.
@HeroOfTime32 Fair point with Ryan Reynolds. I retract what I said. What ever we get, hopefully it is better than what we got 30 years ago.
This whole cast looks like someone’s meme post prediction. It isn’t just the Mario role that is out of whack.
This is another classic case of Hollywood stuffing as much big names as they could regardless of outcome so it would attract as much customers as possible that only watch movies if it has X big name actor/actress
@NotSoCryptic about the 30 years ago thing….we can agree on that!!!!
I can't believe all the HATE in this comment section over just simple announcement of the voice casting. First of all, Chris Pratt is NOT going to sound like normal Chris Pratt, nor will he sound like his LEGO Movie character (which he was wonderful in!). He's going to be doing an original voice, like everyone else in the cast. Anyone who thought Charles Martinet was going to voice Mario, Luigi, etc. were fooling themselves. Charles is great at doing single lines and quick sound bites for games. Voice acting a whole movie is different, VERY different. Not only that, but there needs to be good chemistry between the fellow voice actors. Also, we knew we were getting big time Hollywood actors voicing these roles. I would have loved more seasoned professional voice actors (like Billy West), but for something this big, we knew we were getting Hollywood actors. That's just how the Hollywood system works. Big Movie + Big Actor/Actress = More Attention = Possible More Money.
Also, all the HATE being thrown at Chris Pratt is disgusting. Most of this comes from rumors and baseless accusations. Chris never endorsed Trump (twitter rumor), and he has said his local church has never discriminated against LGBTQ+ (it turns out a church associated to the one he goes to does, but not the one he personally attends). He has also never expressed or said anything anti-LGBTQ+, nor has he been known to support any groups that are openly anti-LGBTQ+. It only takes a short search on the internet to find this out.
I for one am excited, and can't wait to see the first trailer. I also think Jack Black is going to KILL IT as Bowser.
People really need to calm down.
I guess they couldn't afford Ryan Reynolds so they just decided to get the poor knock off version in Chris Pratt.
For what its worth, I've seen this exact back and forth exchange pop up in every comment section that this topic has been reported on. So no need to worry that the NintendoLife community is becoming too toxic, when it is in fact our society as a whole.
Happy Friday, everyone!
@arenred Good for you for not caring. I do and that's the beauty in having the choice to do what's best for you. Another thing, it isn't weird at all. Every single day, people are making a decision to avoid and/or to either do or not do something that goes against their beliefs or ideals.
It's also not limiting cause, again, for every artist that I choose not to spend my time, money, or energy on for whatever reason, there are countless others just as talented (and maybe more) that I do feel comfortable wasting my time, money and energy on.
But I will leave it at that because, going by your last post, you seem to be moving into that territory of becoming a bit judgemental of someone else's opinion. I like to think I've been pretty respectful in stating my feelings and not suggesting you or anyone else's are weird and limiting or need to change yours
@Wavey84 Well said!! I love it
Removed - flaming/arguing
@RantingThespian Pratt isn't a Trumper? Then explain this - https://www.tmz.com/2019/07/17/chris-pratt-dont-tread-on-me-gadsden-flag-shirt-debate-controversy/
Someone doesn't wear a shirt like that by accident. He chose to wear a far right slogan on his chest.
@NotSoCryptic So are you saying that its ok? or are you saying that bc they have Believes it gives them a free pass?
@ramu-chan That is some BS that, that site used to twist it to there favor, Its stupid, Just looking at that photo would never make be Believe that, TBH I really couldn't care less if he was a Trumper, Doesn't mean he should be treated any less of a human being from you or me.
I also think its time we close this place down, As its starting to go a little crazy.
Also there's this thing called opinions and your giving yours out right now.
@CharlieGirl Couldn’t it be argued that all churches are homophobic? I’m genuinely curious as I don’t go to church. What makes Hillsong different from others?
@Snatcher I'm saying that casting stones from glass houses makes for very poor neighbors. Those who have a tendency to persecute others for their beliefs is a fascist and likely needs to be punched in the face.
So let's be perfectly clear here, it doesn't matter what his views are as you have no right, nor the authority to judge him because he believes differently than you. So long as he isn't going out of his way to make your life miserable, you should mind your own damn business.
I do not agree with everything he says, but he hasn't given me any indication that I should string him up for simply expressing himself or following his heart. As a society we have no right to judge him so long as he has not violated the law.
He plays some great roles. Demonstrated great content of character, and has supported a few charities publicly. Then we have a hand full of people who wnat to conflate one action or belief to demonize the man as a monster. How does that make any sense. The answer is it doesn't. Makes those who feel the y have a right to judge such a person monsters and they should hate themselves for being such dedicated A**holes.
@CharlieGirl he attends Zoe. Not Hillsong. I've seen this debunked elsewhere so please stop circulating a lie.
@Gytole More like you dislike the guy. People disagree with you. So you call them idiots cause how dare they like a guy that you don't.
Also. May wanna take her with a grain of salt. The church she mentions isn't the one he actually attends. Quick look up and read clears that up.
@NotSoCryptic Well Its seems you and I all almost on the same Side, I just see things little differently, but I do agree with the first half.
Well this thread turned into a sh%t show real quick, of course the morally outraged are out in force, believing everything they read on Google, I mean how could that ever mislead people.
Chris seem like a pretty cool guy, but who knows in reality what someone is really like in person, but to me his acting is the most important thing, and how he does in the role, rather than obsessing about something in his private life, that may be true or not.
@Snatcher I imagine we have a lot in common. I don't know how my country got this bad that we have to demonize each other and let others drive us apart. Get back to what's important.... well important in a thread about a Movie about a Nintendo Game anyway lol. Hopefully this thing does not suck. I'd like it to pave the way for a good Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade film.
@NotSoCryptic Lets hope so.
@johnvboy My god thank you!
I'm glad to and was happy to see u voice it
@Shunk1 or maybe stop being a PC [email protected] everyone has to be the same culture or color to play a voice of a game character.im glad Nintendo isn't part of the PC culture
@Snatcher,
No problem, by the way did you take the plunge with Animal Crossing new horizons, I hear that Brewster fell is coming back.
@Bizaster,
My guess is it was just announced, and it being on the visibility day was pure coincidence.
@johnvboy Not yet, but I might have to now, if this update is worth talking about.
I'm a big fan of the Mario games, but I don't think Martinet would work in a big film. I think the brevity of his Mario voice would just get annoying with too much dialogue. Not sure if Pratt is the right choice, but I'll wait for a trailer before I judge him one way or another.
Man I just wanted to come in here and share how wonderful I thought it was seeing Miyamoto talk so enthusiastically about each and every cast member revealed. He seemed so excited and happy with the project!
Then I read the comments talking about the actors as 'despicable human beings' who apparently have done 'unforgiveable things!'.
And I just wonder if you have qualifications left for Hitler and people like him?
I feel weird now. 😐
@Bizaster I'm so sorry, that feeling must have been rough!
I was initially fine with this because I have extremely low expectations for the film anyway.
But several of my best friends are LGBT, so I am not okay with what I have heard about him. Wont be watching this.
Give it a chance. If it's worse than the last one, I'll eat my hat.
I would love to see a Dante and Knuckles with Mario movie directed by Hideo Kojima and Rian Johnson with a ridiculously long title and tons of expectation subverting.
It would be the ultimate memefest. Then give it a sequel that is completely unrelated other than the name with another ridiculously long title and still directed by Hideo Kojima and Rian Johnson. Sony Pictures should produce it.
It would be the ultimate meme comedy.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Eh, I grew up with the gruff-voiced cartoon Mario. I had to adjust to the newer high pitched Mario.
@Bizaster,
Surely you are not suggesting Nintendo have waited until this day just to upset the community, pretty sure these directs are planned well in advance, and the movies casting would have been completed ages ago.
@Snatcher,
It's Brewster, and apparently the game is a broken mess without him.
@arenred "Overall, most normal people don't care what they are consuming might come from a baddie, simple as that. Life goes on with or without you.
It is a bit of an unhealthy obsession, especially when we're talking about a complete stranger living far away, someone you've never met and doesn't even know who you are.
If you get satisfaction from fighting famous people with your wallet as if you were some sort of reincarnation of Judge Dredd, I can't help but think you are a very weird person.
Your thesis is ridiculous, just by watching something you are not supporting the actors personally. Like what, do you paypal everyone $200 after watching their movie?
A person's work is harmless and enjoyable regardless of his character, only the weak-minded and the prejudiced would try to avoid it at all costs, rejoicing in their ignorance.
It takes some considerable mental gymnastics to try to justify yourself. You may as well admit you might hypothetically have some issues up there if a TV show produced by John Doe offends you.
Congratulations, you just discovered that every human being is judgemental to an extent, as well as the fact that people will inevitably judge you based on their first impressions of you. Nothing new under the sun I'm afraid."
Well done on this post, good effort. Maybe a bit harsh here and there but homest and truthful. The tides are turning though, I feel the worst of cancel & boycott grandstanding in society is behind us nowadays.
@Darkyoshi98 I'm so sorry for hurting your feelings. Are you gonna be ok?
Good luck pratt, dont let the toddlers get into your skin lol.
I am excited about this movie i hope they do a good job.
@johnvboy srsly. talk about looking for outrage.
@Chocobo_Shepherd,
Well everyone has to have a hobby, I guess.
Chris Pratt has now joined Harris Shore, Larry Moran, Peter Cullen, Tōru Furuya, Captain Lou Albano, Walker Boone, John Lenahan, Ronald B. Ruben, Takeshi Aono, Bob Hoskins, Marc Graue, Nicholas Glaeser, Gorō Inagaki, Takashi Okamura, Kazunari Ninomiya, and of course, the one and only Charles Martinet as one of the many, many, MANY people who have portrayed Mario over the years.
@Shunk1 I know right. How annoying is it when an actor chosen to play a fictional person in a fictional story isn’t exactly lined up with the same nationality as the character. Like in X-Men when they gave the roles of Wolverine and Nightcrawler to Australian actors instead of a Canadian and a German. Also, Ian McEllen is an atheist Englishman. Are you telling me there aren’t any Jewish Germans out there they could have given the chance to play Magneto? And then there are British actors putting on some fake accent and play an American. Is America so short on actors you can’t find enough to play all the American characters in a movie?
@Bizaster,
Was not sure of your position with the "lmao" at the end of your last comment, so thanks for clearing things up.
I think the cast is amazing
@CharlieGirl lol Go enjoy your life young one and stop spending time on social media. What a negative society we live in that people cant have past and flaws.
@CharlieGirl May the innocent throw the first rock.
@Meanpeopleareloud No.
Homophobia isn't a "flaw," it's a form of bigotry against a protected minority.
There are many billions of people on this planet (fewer now, thanks Covid), each one a complicated, conflicted, good-and-bad-at-times individual. Some of them have much worse ideas in their heads than others, true. Still, we must all somehow figure out a way to share this one and only world we've got. I can disagree with someone openly, honestly, and forcefully, but I can't remove them from the world. For me and my own place in the universe, I feel like the best outcomes ultimately grow from building bridges across our common ground rather than burning those bridges across our divides. Other people will choose other strategies. All I can do is wish us all, collectively, success at coexisting in the end.
I will be delighted to experience a Jack Black Bowser.
@CharlieGirl Just curious, how do you feel about Muslims?
@CharlieGirl,
Are we suggesting Chris Pratt is openly homophobic, or is it he attends a church that has homophobic views, because surely those two things are very different.
@CharlieGirl Oh yes, because your just soooo perfect, you never did anything to anyone to make anyone feel like crap, People just can't change.
Well one day when your just living life, and you do something you shouldn't have, And some random record's it, post it on the internet, then you just lose your life, over one mistake.
Not saying if he did said thing its ok, But you know, there's actuall homophobic people, and its not even 100% this dude did this, and said people are living the high life everyday.
@Snatcher I'm not perfect.
But I've also never (not even as a kid) thought to dunk on someone for something they can't change (orientation, race, disability, etc).
@CharlieGirl And when did he do that? like can I get some actual proof, of him being homophobic? Or is it just a bunch of people at looked into his private life, and saw what like one thing then posted it all over the internet.
Wow I was going to comment here, but I changed my mind...
@Shunk1 I hear you my man, But Chris Pratt is the only person I like in the cast! Fine to re-cast everyone else though!!
@NotSoCryptic You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. Never cuck down & never apologise for something you did not do!!
how the heck is Chris Pratt going to voice Mario???? Will he just sound like himself, or try to act Itilian??? Either way, this is gonna be a weird movie...
@Thelastjedi2007 Tom Holland is Yoshi so I would not complain. Chris pratt is a good actor.
And at least the goombas will not look like this. https://id.pinterest.com/pin/73324300155290608/?amp_client_id=CLIENT_ID(_)&mweb_unauth_id={{default.session}}&simplified=true
